Left me pondering.
I´ve been too lazy and succumbed too much to the easy life of the spoon fed NSA-computing we get tempted with at every corner.

2/ they are a tried and trusted technology
3/ You can *always* buy a 2 TB disk off the shelf almost anywhere
4/ Trust me, 2 TB is “big enough” when it comes to rebuilding a dead disk in an array, at a steady 50 MB/sec you’re only looking at 3 GB a minute, 2,000 / 3 = 11+ hours.
5/ You *must* always use all the same size disks in a storage array, 2 TB is a sweet spot, *when* one dies, you don’t lose too much data for the array to rebuild, but even a 4 bay NAS with duplication will still store 4 TB

In a 4 bay NAS with 2 TB drives and duplication, yeah, you could do the same “job” with a 2 bays and 4 TB drives, but with the 4 x 2 bay NAS there is only a 50% chance any read or write operation will actually hit a disk, not a 100% chance as in the 2 x 4 array, so if a drive dies it is only 25% of your spindles, not 50%, eg ALL, when rebuilding the duplication, which will thrash the disk(s) with the dupe data, and if you have two disks and one dies, well, if your right shoe needs resoling…. your left ain’t far behind.

My 2c

YMMV

Meanwhile in the landy if i run one tank dry i simply turn the tank changeover valve, maybe prime the fuel pump if neccesary and im on my way.

She still drives like a total and utter uncomfortable cunt tough. And the brakes and steering, don’t get me started. But at least i can fix ‘er myself.

Called another coworker to pick her up so that she could buy a gallon of gas to get her to a gas station. Turns the key. Nothing. Calls the dealer, explains what going on, and they send a tech with a jump pack and a laptop. Apparently, the new mercs won’t start after being run dry without reflashing the computer or some such shit. All I could think of is when its 2018 and that car is well out of warranty, who the fuck is going to want to touch something like this who has even an inkling of knowledge about its workings.

+1, here’s a living testament to your accuracy, surrounded by pre-chiclet stinkpads and satisfied owner of a car with manual windows.

Sorry if this has been asked before, I searched.

In other words, we are all becoming the whiny little bitches that made up second-wave feminism.

You can only keep the car you can maintain yourself if you can’t trust the mechanic not to fuck you over.
You can only store your money yourself, if you cant trust the banks not to fuck you over.

And so on, and so forth, all the way down the supply chain.

Add feminism, import half of somalia, allow everyone to fuck everyone over, and wait for the eventual collapse, heh.
