In the past several years the HMRC budget has had a cut of 40%. In particular tax evasion investigations have been cut hard, but also obviously services like VAT registration. The general strategy is to impress on the populace that the government is just an ineffectual annoyance, government services are worth nothing, and the black market is the best alternative. Except of course when it comes to bail out the upper classes of the M25 area, in that case the Treasury and the Bank of England can easily find a few hundred billions to save some dozen thousand millionaire’s jobs in the city.

As to the situation in your area, probably you leave in one of the “left behind” areas of the south, perhaps one of the crumbling coastal towns. Well, they are being “merseysided”: the M25 elites have realized that they can buy all the stuff they want from chinese factories for cheap as they have non-union workers paid £1 per hour, and they can get all the servants their want from Nigeria or the Philippines. The rest of England, never mind of the UK, are just surplus to requirements, a cost to be minimised. Perhaps a reserve of butlers and nannies.

I have more faith in ‘anecdotal analysis’ like this than any number of reports and statistics from whatever Office of Fuckwits is in the spotlight this week.

I expect to see more broken down cars too as maintenance gets ignored or scrimped on.

Just spent nearly a grand getting my car a much needed ‘deep service’. It’s an 03 plate Honda (No headlight warning system for me except mk1 eyeball), but that money went to lads in an industrial estate, not Korea or a pension fund. That should get it up to 20 years old if the rust doesn’t make a sudden appearance. Not even done 80000 miles yet.

Just when you think things couldn’t get any worse.. I’ve been considering coming back to the west and looking for a proper job, but the more I hear about what goes on back home, the more I’m reminded of all the forms of cancer thriving in the system.
