One touch power windows for an M2

by Manuel De Brito - debrito@rcn.com

I ordered the One-Touch Power Window Control Modules from Duetto. $69.00 + $6.00. The 2 modules are small enough and have enough wire to fit under the passenger air bag switch in the dash. All the wiring is done at the wires leading to the power window switch under the console. If you know how to tap wires, this is a piece of cake. I thought I would need to take pictures, but other than the console coming out, it was all splicing. I've included the wiring splices color coding. Here are complete directions.

Remove console:

The wiring is as follows:

Miata Function Autoloc Module

Brown 12volts Red
Black Ground Black

You need to cut 4 wires leading to the power windows switch. Make sure you leave enough wire on both sides when you cut it to work with the splice. In other words, cut it 3 -4 inches from the power window switch. They are:

Green/red stripe Left Window Up
White/red stripe Left Window Down
Red/black stripe Right Window Up
Red/green stripe Right Window Down

When you cut the wires, you will now have 2 halves to the same wire. One going to the switch and one going to the window motor. Splice as follows:

Green/red stripe to the window motor goes to the autoloc green wire.

Green/red stripe to the window switch goes to the autoloc brown wire.

White/red stripe to the window motor goes to the autoloc blue wire.

White/red stripe to the window switch goes to the autoloc white wire.

The 2nd module wiring

Red/black stripe to the window switch goes to the autoloc brown wire.

Red/black stripe to the motor switch goes to the autoloc green wire.

Red/green stripe to the motor switch goes to the autoloc blue wire.

Red/green stripe to the window switch goes to the autoloc white wire.

Plug in both modules. Tuck the modules under the passenger airbag switch. It's a tight fit so it won't rattle.

Before you put the whole thing back together, take the Miata power window switch I had you take out earlier, plug it in. Turn the key to the ignition on and test. The entire process took 1.5 hours with 2 beer breaks.

Now put the whole thing back together. Works great for me and it could for you too! As usual, do at your own risk.
