With thanks to Sudhi; I am reposting this late poem from last Cafe, which has been reworked. Apart from some edits, extra syllables have been added in order it fit into song form. I consider it a good poem and it exemplifies
the magic that often occurs in this humble Cafe. If I hadn’t seen “Strange Currents”, the poem posted by Sudhi, in response to haiku I’d posted, it would not have been written.
Divorced from love, nothing in life makes any sense…
River of Love
O, river of love, river of love;
I’m parched and I’m dry,
and in need of a drink.
I’ve loved and I’ve lost
And I’m paying the cost,
Now nothing’s the same
as I used to think.
Wherever I go, whatever I do;
The things that I knew
and thought were true,
Seem but pretence
and no longer make sense;
O, river of love, won’t you
carry me away?
You tease and beguile
like a desert mirage,
Your face lies hidden
and camouflaged.
Your touch so soft
comes back to haunt,
And your memory so clear,
How it tempts and it taunts.
River of love, O, river of love;
What have you done
and where are you gone?
Giver of mercy, giver of grace,
Please show me the way
to the River of Love!
The Travellers Who Ate The Young Elephant
A party of travellers lost their way in a wilderness, and were well nigh famished with hunger. While
they were considering what to do, a sage came up and condoled with them on their unfortunate plight.
He told them that there were many young elephants in the adjacent woods, one of them which would
furnish them as ample meal, but at the same time he warned them that if they killed one, its parents
would in all probability track them out and be revenged on them for killing their offspring. Shortly after,
the travellers saw a plump young elephant, and could not resist killing and eating it. One alone refrained.
Then they lay down to rest; but no sooner were they fast asleep than a huge elephant made his appearance
and proceeded to smell the breath of each one of the sleepers in turn. Those whom he perceived to have
eaten of the young elephant’s flesh he slew without mercy, sparing only the one who had been prudent
enough to abstain.
Tales From Rumi; Selections from the Mathnawi, trans. E H Whinfield.
For this same reason Buddhist monks are not allowed to eat the flesh of certain animals including elephants
From
https://www.urbandharma.org/udharma3/meat.html
“However there are some meats which are specifically prohibited for monks to eat: human meat, for obvious reasons; meat from elephants and horses as these were then considered royal animals; dog meat – as this was considered by ordinary people to be disgusting; and meat from snakes, lions, tigers, panthers, bears and hyenas – because one who had just eaten the flesh of such dangerous jungle animals was thought to give forth such a smell as to draw forth revenge from the same species!”
Fascinating stuff, Fionnbarra. No doubt, Rumi, as a highly educated scholar, theologian, teacher – before he became the God-intoxicated Soul upon meeting Shams of Tabriz ( it was Shams who asked that Rumi become a poet and pour all of his spiritual understanding into poetry, that poetry may be the carrier of Shams’ message to the world ) – would have known such facts as what you have mentioned above. Rumi’s poetry is filled with stories,
anecdotes and examples that he uses to explain the particular spiritual principle he is highlighting at any given moment, drawn from any and every tradition and culture as far and wide as he possibly could. He references stories not only from Islam, as a Sufi, but from Christianity, both Old & New Testaments, and although I cannot recall references to Buddha and the religions of India, atm. I’m sure they exist. He certainly references the pre-Christian world, so one can reasonably expect that he would have been aware of just about as much as possible in his day. For him, t was never about the form that truth took, but the substance. So it’s interesting that I had a nudge to share this particular story from Rumi and you’ve added what you have.
I have seen stories that Rumi has told that resonate with stories my mother has told me as I was growing up. Remember, Orthodox Christian Macedonia was occupied for five hundred years by the Muslim Ottomans, and some of what I have read in Rumi has bled through hundreds of years later in stories my mum shared with me, stories that when I read for the first time as told by Rumi, was able to recognise the source of, as shared by my mum. The Sufis were of course, the ‘mystics’ of Islam, and have been ostracised by more mainstream Islam, ie; people who invariably depended on dogma more than experience, as their source of truth.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buddhism_in_Afghanistan
Iran / Persia borders on Afghanistan and Pakistan. Both were formerly important Budhhist centers so it would not be unlikely for mystics in Persia to have come across such Buddhist ideas. The prohibition on eating such animals of the forest may have been a tradition of ascetics before the advent of Buddhism but with the advent of Buddhism it became codified as a monastic rule.

A Story That Can’t Be Spoken
I tell you a story that can’t be spoken
And hide it from observers when I say it.
Except for your ears, no one hears my story,
Even though I tell it openly amongst people.
Aren’t things said without words in dreams?
I speak that way when awake.
I only moan in the bottom of the well.
In the placeless, I spill secrets about the sorrow
of ( separation from ) you.
I sit, grateful, on the earth,
And tell the heavens about the state of this world —
Because the Beloved always hides from me
Whenever I try to put signs into words.
But spiritually sensitive souls still cry out
When I moan from this longing for you.

The above haiku – other than the first, which is a response to amarynth – came out of watching the film “Samurai Rebellion”,1957, which features my favourite actor, Toshiro Mifune, best known for the 16 films he did with Akira Kurosawa. It is a brilliant film and I recommend it to anyone who appreciates such. The central theme consists of ordinary folk who are thrust into a situation that is beyond their control into a do-or-die situation, with
everything that that entails.
Has anyone heard anything about reservist mobilisation in the UK or Europe for Ukraine? Any links would be appreciated.
Highly unlikely NATO will send troops. UK is speaking for the US so it seems, better to save face. The CIA report is easy to find but still only a plan to counter the highly unlikely. This is a money maker and basically food for the pattern posters.
Ukraine will fight Russia alone, we are unlikely to send troops
By Boyko Nikolov On Dec 20, 2021
LONDON, ($1=0.76 British Pounds) – Gradually, the positions of NATO members on the Russian invasion of Ukraine are being clarified, learned BulgarianMilitary.com, citing the latest statement by British Defense Minister Ben Wallace.
‘It’s a fact it’s not a member of NATO, so it’s highly unlikely that anyone is going to send troops into Ukraine to challenge Russia… We shouldn’t kid people on what we would,’ he said during an interview with Andrew Neil on Spectator TV. Ben Wallace confirmed that military intervention could only be used for defense, and since Ukraine is not a member of NATO, it remains to fight Russia alone.
The situation on the Russian-Ukrainian border is still controversial. Ukraine says Russia currently deploys nearly 100,000 troops at the border, while US intelligence says Putin could quickly “increase” their numbers to 170,000. The CIA also claimed in some of its intelligence reports that Russia would take military action in late January 2022.
Britain followed the example of America. Two weeks ago, President Biden said sending US troops to defend Ukraine was “not on the table.”
What many analysts have said in recent years has come true – military support for Ukraine by the two major NATO nations [the United States and Britain] is limited to political declarations, possible economic sanctions against Moscow, and arms sales to Ukrainians, which is only in benefit American and British manufacturers.
BulgarianMilitary.com recalls that in the last 24 months Ukraine has received several tranches of tens of millions of dollars for defense, as well as the supply of anti-tank missiles Javelin, Russian helicopters that were destined for Afghanistan. It’s no secret that the Ukrainians also want to acquire the American Stinger surface-to-air missiles.
If we compare the military supplies to Ukraine today with those in 2014, when Russia annexed Crimea, today Ukrainians receive more military aid in the form of arms supplies. We remind you that in 2014, the then US President Barack Obama provided the European country only with radars, night vision goggles, and medical supplies.
“Ukrainians are being killed and we are sending them blankets and food,” the late Senator John McCain said at the time. “Blankets don’t do well against Russian tanks.”
During a television interview, Ben Wallace never confirmed whether Britain would join the US initiative to send deadly weapons to Ukraine. However, analysts predict that if Russia invades Ukraine, the British will “reconcile” and follow the Americans in military supplies.

God bless Smoothie, I smiled when I saw this on his latest blog:
“But then again, I am old fashioned, but, yes, I still love good shoes and good watches (emphasis on good, meaning beautiful and reliable). I buy my Wranglers at Walmart (and Lee’s at COSTCO) and some things in Eddie Bauer. I would say that is more than enough for man’s happiness. But that’s just me, what do I know.”
It is a smart and ancient sensibility, preceding even the stoic Greeks. Also a sign of humility. The clothes do not make the man.
A few decades ago one of my uncles nearly beat me for wearing a torn old (but soo comfortable) plaid shirt, as “unbecoming a self-respecting man.” And he was a crusty retired mechanic, a bear of a man, lol.
More recently my father was resting outdoors and was surprised to be given alms, being assumed to be a homeless or indigent man! To be fair, he does look like a whooly Ancient, snowy beard down to the navel, like one who wandered down from a mountain. And in early 1980s he was a senior diplomat, part of a delegation visiting Reagan who went into the Oval office.. Most men are shallow and cannot comprehend there are those who do not give a damn about superficialities of this dimension, nevermind competing for the ephemeral bling and baubles.
On the other hand, the Japanese have an accordant saying which I respect, and is most prudent in dangerous times – “the nail that sticks out gets hammered down.” One senses the technocratic fools with their love of english suits and italian shoes will self-select for lamp post adornment.

Steinbeck tells a autobiographical story along these lines. He was doing a carpentry job with a hired man, and both men were dressed for sloppy work. They needed some bits and bobs from the hardware store in town, and he asked the hired man to go get the materials. “Oh, Mr Steinbeck, I’ll have to go home and change, you have to rich to dress this way in town. Why don’t you go?” (from memory)
China and Russia act in their own interests. For now both nations face a common threat from a common enemy, but for how long with their ‘alliance/ partnership’ last till there is an conflict of interest for both countries?
All the talk of double helix partnership etc does has its limitations. Russia from a western perspective can be ‘managed’ but same rules or tactics cant be applied to china due to its deep pockets and influence. Your thoughts?
I read a lot about the US selling gas to Europe to replace the European import of Russian gas. So lets look at the stats on that possibility.
1. US natural gas production in 2021 is around 96 Bcf’s (Billion cubic feet).
2. US home usage of natural gas in 2021 is around 83 Bcf’s.
That means there would be around 13 Bcf’s for export to the world.Quite a lot of that will probably go to the high paying countries of Asia.
Europe uses around 300+ of Bcm’s of gas yearly. Russia provides around 37% of that figure.
Even if there were enough ships to ship it,and enough infrastructure in place for it.How the US could hope to replace the volumes of Russian gas used in Europe is a pipe dream in my opinion.
And the little they do send sends the price of gasoline up a dollar per gal from last year.
I reiterate my position on western politicians, when you dont know what you are doing, you really dont know what you are doing.
https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2021/12/23/politics/saudi-ballistic-missiles-china/index.html
“CNN Exclusive: US intel and satellite images show Saudi Arabia is now building its own ballistic missiles with help of China”
A question for the ardent pro-China crowd here. We know Russia has been selling weapons to the Saudi coalition in an effort to balance the scale in favor of the Saudis in the war in Yemen; this has so far been unsuccessful, to the embarrassment of the Saudi coalition and Russia. Now, China is helping arm the Saudis in another clear attempt to prop them up against the Yemenis. The question is, what is the message of Russian and Chinese support for the Saudis against the Yemenis?
To put this matter in context, how would it look if Iran helped the Ukraine and Taiwan set up their own arsenal of ballistic missiles and drones and other weapons? Would anyone here refrain from throwing shade on Iran? So, why is it different when Russia and China help the Saudi regime in their genocide against the Yemeni people? Nevermind Russia and China’s support for Israel.
Am I missing something here?
Conflicting ideologies are always going to find a place to battle out their differences, Yemen, the Ukraine and Taiwan are no exception.
China is pouring money into Ukraine. Some of which goes to science, tech, space which usually means missiles at some point and the regular-infrastructure, etc. So a stronger more prosperous Ukraine should emerge.

Question is, was the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki done in response to the Rape of Nanjing? Are they even linked? Was the US even concerned about the plight of the people of Nanjing? Did the US not have an existing anti-Asian sentiment?
Clearly Global Times rightfully criticizes the US for its war crimes and double standards. So what’s with this Stockholm Syndrome-esque tendency to fawn over the USA (which now controls Japan’s foreign policy) every time Hiroshima and Nagasaki are brought up? Is it to say that “[USian] war crimes are bad, unless they’re good”? Is this not hypocrisy on its own right?
It’s times like these when I have greater respect for Russia. After all, the Soviet Red Army did the hard work in defeating the Japanese Kwantung army in Manchuria, and all was done without dropping bombs on unarmed civilians. That the Soviets’ monumental role is brushed aside in favor of USian self-serving genocide speaks volumes about the dangerous influence of the Anglosphere, especially the USA, in Chinese society.
@ joey_n, Dear Colleague.
The testing for effects of a-bomb tests 1,2,3 (the latter two on Japan, the first on US persons down-wind (many spontaneous abortions then, and they’re still dying, mostly rural Mormons) were intended absolutely and beyond any question to intimidate the USSR and thereby force concessions. The record of this design is public and irrefutable. In fact, even before the gadget was tested the bomb project boss, Groves, said baldly, “the bomb is for Russia”. The Soviet bomb prevented the atomic liquidation of USSR, which was explicitly an operation underway.
Nanjing has nothing to do with this.
For information see> The Decision to Use the Atomic Bomb, (Gar Alperovitz )
MacArtur intended to use the a-bomb on China to liquidate the CCP and re-install fascist quisling so-called “nationalists”…that was the main purpose of “Korean War”, in which, btw, the US bombed and strafed both Russia and China, and used Japanese war-criminal germ war fascist experts combined with US boffins to bomb both Korea and China with germ war agents. This is indisputable. See Jeffery Kaye’s @ medium.
The Korean war failed in it’s primary design, due to PLA and Korean Communist Armies, and Soviet assistance, and the Soviet bomb, but it did divert enough PLA resource to postpone the liberation of Taiwan and the liquidation of the Chinese fascist quislings transferred to Taiwan by US navy in 1949. Postponed, but still on “to-do” list of PLA and CCP, basic and foundational existential necessity, in their revolution. Said liberation pending.
Hugs and deepest condolences dear Sean. Patience brother, this has been extremely testing year, and it is not over yet.

Re: Global Times double standards
Hi joey_n,
Could it be a threat to Japan from China? I do not think they celebrate any crime done by USA, past or present, but it may be a message to Japan. If they return to open Fascism again or dream of waging war against China again, regardless of contrived excuse, there is a new correlation of forces now, even more dire than Hiroshima or Nagasaki.. and the Japanese inhabit a small group of islands from which there is no retreat possible. Sometimes a brutal message of realpolitik needs to be conveyed, particularly to those who went on genocidal rampages in the past and still show glimpses of preserving such DNA. As it is said, anything is fair in War and Love.
The double helix tandem appears to be tag-teaming, with Russia playing the good cop and China the bad cop.. perhaps a successful means so far of defusing the Empire on this front.
PS – US never cared about their victims, allies or even own veterans. And Chinese were untermenschen to them. They hired and relocated the Japanese germ warfare specialists who experimented on the Chinese to the USA starting in 1945, as was discussed by Mr P recently.
Would like to wish all the Cafe regulars and drop ins a Merry Christmas, hug the ones you love.
We laid my mom to rest on Christmas Eve, so make every hug count. One never knows when it may be the last…….

Condolences on the passing of your mum, Sean, may the blessings be…
love is the essence
spirit, soul and life of all
that exists
My deepest condolences sean. As you said to me, these are the times that we do not know what to say to one another. My heart goes out to you.
It’s been affirmed that the most difficult of experiences facing human beings is the passing and separation from loved ones. Nothing can fill or replace the emptiness we feel inwardly, when such occurs. I can personally attest, however – having experienced contact with both my mother and best friend after their respective departures from this particular theatre of experience – that my ensuing dream encounters with both, proved to me beyond
a shadow of doubt, that life continues in another theatre, which is surprisingly similar to this one. I believe that this is so in order that the departing Soul is able to adapt with a minimum of stress, and thus continue with one’s life and mission within the context of the new theatre It finds itself in.
Prior to my mother’s passing, she shared with me that she encountered a selection of relatives that were near and dear to her, and who signalled that they were aware of her ailing health. I mention this, b/c it’s said that no Soul is ever alone when it makes the transition and so, loved ones are on hand to help. Despite the pain we feel at departure of our dear ones, we need to consider these other matters. It does help in our acceptance of the situation especially when we accept that they could no longer continue as they once were and that the time had come for them to part.
Re: “It’s been affirmed that the most difficult of experiences facing human beings is the passing and separation from loved ones.”
This is so true Dimitar. We teach in medical curricula that among risk factors of mood disorders, such as depression, at the top of the list of significant losses is the death of a spouse, closely followed by that of a parent or child.. we humans are so fragile.
High on that list are also divorces, losing a job or moving to a new home, adverse financial conditions, chronic painful physical conditions. How many hundreds of millions attacked in last 2 years via a combination of these, via artificially circumscribed economies, isolation, lack of human contact and socialization, bankruptcies, forcing to sell homes etc…?? It has been a global Psy Op on all of mankind, to reduce us to despair and make us lose hope.
If we are patient though, the Lord provides healing and ease with the passage of time, as the grieving process forms a balm. And you highlighted the key: acceptance of fate and that chronically ill relatives no longer suffer in this dimension.

Your poem “River of Love” reminds of one of my favorites of some decades ago, thanks!

Thank you everyone…..likely the most difficult death for anyone to experience, the loss of your Mother.
Funny you write what your mom experienced, Dimitar, a few days before she went into hospital she said to sis, “make some extra food”, sis asked why as they had more than enough for two, she just said, “your Dad’s in the house”…..me Da’s been dead over ten year already.
Talk about being unsettled…she kept asking me what was happening to her and why the doctors couldn’t figure it out.
Then the most profound thing happened, one day sitting on her bed holding her hand, she just looked at me and said “I think I am dying” rocked me to my core. Is there an answer for that? Called sis home from work, and in denial we said our final goodbyes……in this world.
Cheers M
One thing I did learn, maybe I’d forgot, Doctors are great with living, with Death, they haven’t got a fricken clue.
“Doctors are great with living, with Death, they haven’t got a fricken clue.”
That would be most people, Sean. But the bond between loved ones is greater than death and in many cases is able to find a way to bridge the gulf and send a message to assure those of us who stay behind that they continue
to exist. Your mother mentioning the presence of your father, I believe was an indication that he was aware of her imminent arrival in the next world, and that he was on hand to accompany and assist her. Such are the ways of love.
While we all are always near to death, it comes sometimes with no warning. For my mom and pop it happened in seconds by surprise, albeit years apart. There was no good bye. And the tears, and the dreams, and the anger too, did not come for decades.
Mrs P did hospice volunteer for a time, she has stories.
I am deeply sorry about your loss, Amigo. What words can be said?
Sorry for your loss Sean. God bless
Very sane and baldly frank brief on postwar history> searchterm> “Globalist “Fourth Reich” Revisited” (steve brown )
Pretty much summed up in quote in text> “Sergey Glazyev in 2014 stated that, “the real Nazis are in Washington”. ”
Worth saving for the record.
Excerpt> “The west is not interested in peace. No western leader ever speaks about world peace: Not on any occasion or under any circumstance. The west is about, war, terror, horror, death, destruction, and profit from same. How can we know? Not just by NATO destroying Yugoslavia or Libya, or the fact that NATO exists at all. No, we know because this is the warfare state ideology dumped on us every day, day by day, by the western media and especially US “leaders”. For at least twenty years now. (But actually more.) This is why the president of Russia throws up his hands and wonders why the west is so crazy …. just as he did today. He must realize that the Nazi intent to enslave the East was not defeated in 1945, or any time thereafter; just as we see with the promise of western aggression versus China, Russia, and Iran today.”
It’s a matter of character, scorpion is scorpion, and not capable being other. Zone A is incapable of retreat or peace.
joey> Roosevelt’s policy precluded using the bomb on Russia/USSR. Does any one actually believe that his death was a coincidence? Recall Groves’ statement was uttered prior to this coincidence. https://nezavisen.mk/bugarija-izbrishana-od-kartata-na-slovenskata-pismenost-vo-ruski-dokumentaren-film/
“A Russian documentary film in which a map of Slavic culture features no sight or mention of Bulgaria, has
been met with a huge reaction from Bulgarians on social media. Perhaps most of all because the film asserts that
the origin (“tatkovina”; fatherland ) of the Slavic alphabet originates from Macedonia.
The film is called “Edna Vera, Eden Jazik” ( One Religion, One Language, or the word “vera”, could be also interpreted as “truth” or “belief” ), and is produced and directed by Elena Mironenko. The film premiered on the 22nd of December, 2021 at the film festival “Bogoridičen Pokrov” in Macedonia. The film was pronounced “The best television film of a regional television studio”, at the XXVI International Film and Television Festival, “Radonež” in Moscow. “Bogorodičen Pokrov” is a platform where documentaries, dramas, historic and biographical films dedicated to the collective cultural and spiritual heritage of humanity, are presented and include films from Macedonia, Russia, Serbia, The Czhech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and France.
What could possibly have angered the Bulgarians so much?
Mostly because the film “Edna Vera, Eden Jazik”, was made with the assistance of the Russian Embassy in Macedonia, the “fatherland” of the Russian language is none other than Macedonia, and that the Slavic Saints, Kiril and Metodi, have no relation to Bulgaria, who does not even rate a mention as any kind of linguistic
or ‘Pravoslaven” centre of learning and culture in the IX and X Centuries AD.
In the film, a map of South-Eastern Europe in the 9th C. does not mention or make reference to “Bulgaria”. Alongside the words, “Macedonia is the birthplace of the Slavic Language”, the narrator mentions that all extant ancient (“drevno”; ancient ) spiritual texts whether in Russia, Ukraine, Serbia, Montenegro, Bulgaria and Macedonia are written in Old Church Slavonic, which comes from Macedonia.
The film’s authors trace the path of the Holy brothers, Kiril and Metodij, beginning in the year 861, ( in Solun,
in today’s Greek occupied Aegean Macedonia ) when two years later they arrived in the town ‘Heron’ in Ukraine where they spent two years. The film mentions their visits to “Sveti Kliment Ohridski, and Sveti Naum, ( in Macedonia ), Sveti Prohor Pčinski, ( in today’s Serbia, which was “gifted” to Serbia, during Yugoslav times, but prior to that was a part of the ethnic, geographic and cultural heritage of Macedonia ) and Sveti Vasilej in Montenegro.
According to the film, there was a Russian alphabet prior to the ‘Glagolithic’, and when in Heron, the brothers became aquainted with the Russian alphabet, and so incorporated it into their ‘codification’ of the new alpahabet.
The film’s authors therefore suggest that Kiril and Metodij personally created the foundations of the “Third Rome”,
Moscow”.
“Edna Vera, Eden Jazik”, also shares stories about Sveti Kliment and Sveti Naum, who founded the first great
Slavic University at Ohrid, Macedonia… They continue, saying that this particular institution gave birth to first
“Pravoslavna era”, which went on to unite all Slavic peoples, ie; the Russians, the Ukrainians, the Belorussians,
the Bulgarians, Serbs and Macedonians…” ( transl. and edit from Macedonian by myself )
What’s interesting from the small excerpt I’ve translated above, is the all importance of the Macedonian historical legacy – from the linguistic, spiritual, ethnic, cultural, geographic aspect etc., and everything that that entails insofar as today’s controversies surrounding Macedonia’s claims re: it’s own legacy. I cannot think of one other example where such an unprecedented campaign to disavow a people of it’s historic legacy ( proven many times over by Macedonian scholars, linguists, historians etc. as authentic and tracing a direct path to today’s Macedonian people and country ), led by the collective “West”, ie; the USA, the EU and NATO, to take away that legacy and assign it to other peoples, most notably Bulgaria, Greece and Albania, which on close scrutiny, in fact, has nothing to do with any of these countries. What it is, in fact, is a shameless grab, on behalf of these countries, not only to aggrandise and shore up their own historiographies ( which all clash with each others’, it should be mentioned ), but also to finally bury and leave behind the collective guilt and fear of potential restitution in light of their genocidal policies enacted out in the past toward the Macedonian people, identity and nation.
I am therefore eternally grateful for Russia, for speaking the truth, as they have always done so.
Late on Boxing Day night
I clear away a layer of Christmas rubble
A wet finger raised to the wind
I think I think I’ve sailed clear of any trouble
I’ve kept my mouth zipped to the maxx
Ache for the innocent, Golden Days
When the subject for heat
Was who should pay what taxx
I smile for the old Whale
Fearlessly combative in any debate
Opinion fortified with liquor and faxx
Learnt a lot in the past two years
Some discussions are fraught, and end in tears
Christmas now is about lying low and keeping the paxx
Zip it Whale; let it go; stay calm, breathe; relaxx
What is a coward, who is a hero?
Should I speak when I know what I know?
Right now everyone is happy, bellies full, post festive glow
Will they in later years turn,
learning way too late
Turn to me and berate:
If you knew, why didn’t you say so?
In my mind I struggle
Debate myself on the best way forward
I let them think I’m just like them, another muggle
This late in life I don’t want to cut the cord
Internal dissonance as the “easy” way is actually incredible hard
I busy myself in the pile of dishes that stand in staxx
I smile and hum a seasonal ballard
Knowing my conscience has been taken to with a metaphysical poleaxe
not everything
we do will be noticed,
not everything we say will be heard,
not everything we meant will be understood.
in spite of all this,
we will love, forgive
and humbly accept that our Maker
sees and knows our true intentions,
and that He loves and cherishes us
for who and what we truly are!
and then…
there’s always tomorrow,
with a fresh opportunity to be better
than we were today.
That is so funny White Whale, and so very very sad as well.
But, consolation is, you all did not create a punch up! I see in RT that Alex Jones’ wife was arrested – they apparently had a friendly family punch up. Not my usual choice of reading but it caught my attention after reading your poem. Wow .. I’ve never seen that, despite also very deep rifts on family lines.
These days I volunteer nothing. If someone asks me and I sense it is a genuine question, I will say what I think. If they want to fight, I leave. It’s not worth mining the rifts deeper, because all of this will pass. If anyone says ‘why did you not say’, I can also say, ‘why did you not ask or speak, because you knew in your inner being that things were not right and who made me the oracle anyways?.
These are strange times and we have to be open and protect ourselves all at the same time.
Sean, me favourite leprechaun.
Argh. That is brutal, harsh.
Condolences to you, and also to Amarynth, who too, is still mourning the recent passing of her dear mother.
For you both, and many others who have, (like James who posted earlier this year), now arrive at the “firsts”.
The first Christmas without mother (or)
The first birthday (theirs | yours)
First anniversary of their death
First anniversary “of the heart” The event that does not “rate” on the calendar, but holds powerful memories and significance. (It may be the announcement of the first pregnancy, or first (and subsequent) births. Or. Maybe the day you graduated | won the competition | excelled at X | and they said, or did, X…
The day you learned they had cancer, (or x) or the day…..
Anniversaries of the heart. They can be anything.
And they can be of significance only to you.
Inexplicable.
Even a close sibling can fail to grasp why some event or date holds so much importance.
And eventually the “firsts” become seconds, and “thirds”, and 17ths… and slowly, at some point, (different for each individual), it becomes more bearable.
The memories are always treasured. The loss is forever.
But the living, …. happens.
Life “goes on”. As it should.
As Dimitar says, this dimension is for “us”.
They now have their own “dimension”, and one day, we ourselves will know what that dimension is.
And then, the ones here will mourn us. (Maybe? Hopefully they will, if we’ve “done our job right”, by being Beings worthy of their sorrow at our passing.)
[I hope my words are helpful. They are intended to be.]
I think this is fitting…
I Carry Your Heart; Michael Hedges
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MiIUTEMTlwM
What distinguishes this song is the extended outro and the transcendence achieved in the vocal parts, as David Crosby and Graham Nash join Michael on vocal, until he hits those falsetto lines… Finally, Michael’s guitar along with bassist, Michael Mannring take over and see the song through to the end…
Sincere condolences sean. I know about the grief when mother is gone..
The death of a loved one, can and does affect us both emotionally and physically. The unacceptance, the sense of loss, and the emptiness felt takes a long time to pass.
Perhaps this video by Sadhguru could be meaningful –

My sincere condolences sean, Om Shanti

While it’s nominally about the JFK job, the mechanism of today is the same, but more desperate and complex.
