I recall watching a claustrophobic yet riveting disaster flick called the Poseidon Adventure (1972) starring the excellent actors Gene Hackman and Ernest Borgnine. It won 2 academy awards and was the highest-grossing US film of 1973 (wiki). One of those awards was for Best Original Song “The Morning After,” sung by Maureen McGovern, which also topped the music charts that year. Have we done as much as possible to prevent a war in Eastern Europe?
I would like to put forth an idea that may influence the U.S. to tell NATO it must remove all surface-to-surface missile platforms from Eastern Europe including the Ukraine, Poland, Romania, etc. Feel free to critique or criticize it.
Everyone who knows anything about U.S. politics is well aware the Israeli lobby controls America’s foreign policy in the Middle East. So how can Russia use that fact to its advantage?
Step 1. Russia opens a dialogue with the Palestinian government of Hamas in the Gaza Strip. The Russians are very concerned from a humanitarian perspective that Gaza’s fishing industry is in severe decline partly due to their outdated fishing boats. Russia offers Hamas a fleet of modern fishing vessels including sonar capability to locate schools of fish off the Mediterranean Coast of Palestine to increase seafood production.
Step 2. Russia discusses Hamas’s security concerns with respect to its internal police force. Russia asks about their law enforcement policing methods as well as the technology they currently use. This may or may not lead to aid for Palestine.
Step 3. Due to Israel intelligence inside Palestine, the Israelis are very concerned about maintaining control over the Palestinian occupation and asks Russia for a meeting to talk about why it has met with Hamas.
Step 4. Russia tells Israel it understands its security concerns just as Russia is concerned about its own security issues in Eastern Europe.
Step 5. Russia offers a “compromise” in that it will forgo offering Hamas training and technology if Israel will meet with the U.S. and get them to pull missile platforms out of Eastern Europe. Russia floats the idea that Israel will be looked at as a “broker for peace” for regional stability both in the Middle East and in Eastern Europe. At this point Israel is drawn into a situation it doesn’t want any part of but Russia pushes them since they both have a “shared concern” regarding their respective national securities.
Step 6. If Israel doesn’t take the offer or does but is unsuccessful in convincing the U.S. to back off, then Russia will upgrade Hamas’s police force, which will be a big headache for Israel in the long run.
Israel needs to “feel some pain” since they have been occupying Palestine for over 70 years and should realize their agenda has consequences that affects other nations in the multi-polar world.
like I said, this week is place in time for a big, yearly necessary, event of waiver, suffering is due. This on the northern hemisphere refers to the symbolic world of Capricorn = highest leven of collective things and meaning, like state, law, tradition. On the southern hemisphere looms the same event on the lowest level of individual things = Cancer, depth in them earth, where the inner flows, are converging.

I think these moves were expected and gamed before the Ultimatum was delivered. They would have pre-flushed key vessels from being blockaded prior to initiation of gambit? From what I understand from smoothie and saker, current war will be missile war over distances. Blockading Baltic or Bosphorus will not save them.
I doubt Turkey would block Bosphorus – unless there was a coup. It is declaration of war and total break with Eurasia and jumping onto a Titanic already impaled on the iceberg! And they do not trust US – I heard they were de-dollarizing now? It is too radical a step for Erdogan; it may be a 3 letter agency, like in Kazakhstan.

Note that he didn’t say “…believes it would be madness for the US to cross our red lines, for NATO to place its troops in Ukraine… Remember, this was Russia’s BIG RED LINE but now Peskov clearly states that Russia has no intention of fighting NATO in Ukraine. We are not mad to fight if you trample on our red line of red lines. Is a different reading possible?
“… but doesn’t rule out taking counter-actions to NATO deployments…” OK, so Russia will not fight NATO but DOESN’T RULE OUT – that is, it might or might not countenance – doing something – but what, we’ll find out once NATO troops are inside Ukraine.
With Mexico having entered my radar within the past six months for a reason I won’t discuss here (since it probably won’t let me), and discussions of USian activity against Cuba (and Venezuela, unless that one has ceased), I’ve been concerned about one thing:
If I’m not mistaken, Mexico, Cuba and Venezuela are three such Latin nations which have Catholicism (Latin Christianity?) as their (supposedly) majority religion. Given the (understandably) poor reputation of Latin Christianity (‘Papism’?) on this blog, how do we reconcile it with the fact that the nations of Latin America, many of which being victims of (Protestant?) USian imperialism, are or have long been Catholic? Does LatAm Catholicism differ from that practiced in the Vatican?
(Similar questions could be asked about Hungary)
My take as a Latin American, after struggling for a long time with this issue (strategically, not metaphysically):
It is impossible to segregate Western Christianity. For all practical purposes, whether Vatican elements choose a liberal or conservative project, they see the American continent as a Western Christian whole.
The “Protestant North versus Catholic South” within the American continent is increasingly blurred as Protestantism takes root in Latin America and Catholicism, if I’m not mistaken, is either second or third largest Christian denomination in the United States (and in 5 Eyes countries). Such distinction may be important on a regional, intra-Western level, but it doesn’t make sense globally.
In global terms, Western Christianity functions as a whole. Now what that augurs for our continent I’m not yet sure.
I suppose one could analyze Latin America as a whole as a potential **alternative** Judeo-Christian project, by that I mean non-Zionist, with strong Trotskyist tendencies and Catholic liberation theology influences. That is an alternative to the USA’s Judeo-Christian West insofar it isn’t Zionist and much less Puritan and exceptionalist. One could approach Latin America thusly.
Therefore, the old antagonism interpretation according to which a “Hispanic Catholic South” opposes an “Anglo-Saxon Protestant North” in our continent is IMO severely outdated. In the American continent we see the mutual confrontation and coordination between two similar but not identical Judeo-Christian ideas.

But what led me to raise the questions in my original post was discussions of the RCC’s role in e.g. the attack against (Orthodox) Serbia, implying an antagonism in which a “Latin Catholic West” opposes a “Slavic Orthodox East”. That was what raised the question of Latin American Catholicism.
Where does the Catholic faith in general fall under the Saker’s definition of ‘Latin Christianity’? Or is the Catholic faith synonymous with ‘Papism’?
Yes, I believe Catholic faith and Latin Christianity can be taken as synonyms. And yes, Papism is one of the defining traits about Catholicism. Historically, a “Latin Catholic West” has always opposed a “Slavic Orthodox East”, even before the Anglo-Saxons.
When you ask about Catholicism and its relation to Latin America, it is obvious we have an identity problem here. On the one hand, Christianity (in Catholic form) is Latin America’s traditional religion and imposing secular-materialist (liberal-progressive) values is morally questionable. On the other hand, Catholicism (now together with Protestantism) connects Latin America to Western Europe/United States, which helps preserve colonial-imperialist relations.
I didn’t give you a straight answer in the first place because answering “straightforwardly” is already picking a side: should Latin America be more liberal-progressive (not necessarily in the USA sense of the word) or should it be more conservative? If it should be liberal, in the spirit of the 19th century liberators, in the sense of Trotskyism and some left-wing Christian circles, and of course in the sense of individual salvation of Protestantism, then certain questions arise. Could indigenism liberate our peoples or could it become a tool for ethnic discord? What is the relation between religion and society?
If it should be more conservative, what is the place of Catholicism in the 21st century? Can we even speak of Catholicism x Protestantism when both the Vatican, the Anglo-Saxons and the Jews have to “deal with” Islam, Confucianism, Hinduism and Orthodoxy on a global level? What kind of conservatism is suitable for Latin America?
But you can only think about these issues once you presuppose the old dichotomy between Catholic Latin America and Protestant North America is outdated and cannot explain properly our continent. From there, you can ponder about Mexico’s identity issues especially as it is closer to the US and was part of NAFTA.
So while Latin America has indeed been a historical victim of US Protestantism but that doesn’t mean the Vatican opposes that. On the contrary, the largest Christian nation in the world are still the United States. Despite the fact Cuba and Venezuela (and many others) are considerably Catholic countries, many Vatican elements go up against them because they have Marxist tendencies, and they go up against them both in liberal sense (“they are not Western-styled democracies”) and conservative sense (“they are commie indigenous 3rd world”).

Different countries with different history. The Vatican was created to cover the interests of the Roman nobility as their empire was collapsing. In Mexico, Cuba and Venezuela Catholicism has been imposed by the Spanish Inquisition/ conquistadors and the people often hid their native religious believes under Christianity and its characters. I would say that the difference to me seems to be decadence on one side and survival on the other. Faith seemed stronger on the side of the poor. Pope Francis seems to adopt the side of the poor but at the same time invite people to get injected. I don’t know if he was specific in his advertising… it’s all good.

I love Mexico and Mexicans. Lots of diversity of native cultures, strong faith and down to Earth, even though consumerism, corruption, abuse and everything else are present.
There is a strong revolutionary background. Tierra y Libertad.
Plus the rallying words written on some walls in Chiapas: Ejercito eres Pueblo. Many Mexican soldiers ended up deserting the army to join the Zapatistas in their resistance.
Ultimately it is not about the form of Catholicism as much as the individual relationship with the Source.

Thank you for Djokovic’s amazingly impressive life history, I only know I love watching tennis… well, what an outstanding individual, even with the loss of playing the Australian Open championships, honour is achieved. Highest level level legal battles over-ridden by the federal government court without them batting an eyelid.. They did it because they could, the same having occurred in other countries also, in different circumstances. I cant fail to notice that men and boys are not mentioned in agenda 2030 only women and girls.. ANKARA, Jan 18 (Reuters) – Turkey’s state pipeline operator Botas said on Tuesday that it cut oil flow at the Kirkuk-Ceyhan oil pipeline following an explosion near the southeastern province of Kahramanmaras.
In a statement, Botas also said a fire erupted following the explosion and firefighters and emergency personnel were deployed to extinguish the blaze.
The reason for the explosion, which occurred close to the 511th kilometer of the pipeline, was unknown, it also said.
