A shout out to Sandra, hope you are around the café today. Thanks for your openness, it’s hard to open up, raw emotion. I would encourage you to take Dimitar up on the offer of email exchange. Talking about things is always the first step. Not easy to do, so please do take the offer. I also hope you have some form of respite (under covid lockdowns*), 24/7 care of an adult is extremely exhausting. Miss your presence in the café, but fully understand what you have committed to. Prayers and hugs for you. Cheers.

Big thank you to everyone for the well wishes on the parenting front. My mom would still worry about me, me, over sixty with three full grown kids, so I guess you parent to the very last breath.

M, you’re so kind – thinking about me in the midst of your own crisis. I can literally not imagine what you are going through – I don’t have any children. Your observation that your mother would still worry for you may be a useful insight. Your son needs to know you still love him despite everything. I know I never got past the need to know my father loved me – and years after his death, I still cling to that knowledge – it still gives me something – strength ? comfort ? I don’t know, but I’m still glad of it.

How do you show him your love – ay, there’s the rub. The taking him into your home doesn’t seem practical – and may not even help / perhaps would enable a further fall ? The suggestion to maintain contact and visit seems sound. I’m so sorry I have nothing more to offer you.

In your mother’s case I can definitely tell you that you would not have wanted to watch your mother linger and deteriorate mentally and physically. I watched my father, who had been very fit and active go into a long decline. He had fallen while out dancing – he had a coin holder in his pocket which caused a clot in his leg which then travelled to his lung. He was put on blood thinners. This caused brain bleeds, quite quickly taking away both his physical and mental health. My point is he certainly suffered two years he could have done without. It can never be a good time to lose a parent, equally well it can never be a good thing to watch a loved one live on in distress, with no hope of recovery. I hope that doesn’t sound too callous – it’s meant to offer you some measure of comfort in your grief.

As to Dimitar – yes we are in contact ! I think he may well rue the day – I will be requesting ( demanding ) regular counselling sessions from now on. Watch out Dimitar – hope you have plenty of time set aside.

All joking aside, I do feel a bit ashamed burdening people with my problems – after all, everyone has problems – and I certainly believe we all learn / grow by overcoming them. Usually I’m able to simply make the decision to overcome them – I’m usually very strong. I have always liked the mantra from the Jon and Vangelis song, ‘ somehow I’ll find my way home ‘ – I do believe it. Another song I recently remembered from my childhood is the Rolling Stones’ ‘ Let it bleed ‘ – I like the line ” we all need someone we can lean on ” – the song still sounds great to me :

I appreciate the Saker and his viewpoint and rich context very much. Also, everyone appreciates the realpolitik reasons for an approach of Russia and China, which is completely rational. However, on the topic of the joint statement by Russia and China the other day, and all the excitement that it brought, I have a question:

How does an ostensibly Orthodox nation (sometimes projecting itself as “the last true Orthodox nation”…) establish “unlimited friendship” with a non-Orthodox one? If between Orthodox people this fallen nature tears us apart (not to mention between “all christian people” whatever that may still mean today), how is it possible that outlooks ultimately founded on completely different worldviews can be so closely, “unlimitidely” aligned?

Is China now acknowledging Orthodoxy? Is it sending experts to observe the Holy Fire in Jerusalem…? That would be a truly historical development and Putin may end up being mentioned as “equal to the Apostles”. But if not, it could also show a very cynical play — “we are the last true Orthodox nation” sometimes, and “unlimitedly close to a materialist system” sometimes… A potential cynical play with these things is very dangerous.

To put this in context for those who might find this objection strange, wouldn’t “unlimited friendship” between Texas and India strike anyone as odd or insincere, or at least oversold?

Odysseus, King of Ithaca and hero of Homer’s epic the Odyssey and the Iliad, fascinated me for years. The riveting journey of a lifetime, and the patience of Penelope! Imagine waiting 10 years for your spouse to return, and rejecting over 100 suitors as a beautiful Queen?

Odysseus was a wise leader, capable of subtlety and planning, and helped build much of the Greek alliance before they set out to Troy. He cobbled together a feuding fractious uninterested rabble. He recruited the warrior of that age, Achilles, and devised the winning stratagem of the wooden horse. He even escaped the Sirens’ call on his equally epic journey home. Sting sang of his ship’s agony as it dashed between Skylla and Charybdis.

The movie Troy (2004) was an underrated gem, not least for the lines and knowing laughs of Brian Cox (Agamemnon). It was directed by Wolfgang Petersen, who crafted one of the best ever recent movies, Das Boot (1981). Multi-talented and thoughtful Sean Bean played the role of wise Odysseus in this film.

If you belong to ancient reflective and mature cultures, and have observed certain tribes in unrestrained orgy of rampage, pillage and rapine for 500 years, to such a degree that they do not have a Plan B or inclination for change, then it is prudent to merge ranks with all opposing forces, even if they worship Tinker Bell!
The wide earth has been divided up and made constricted, and there is no space left for retreat.
None will stand alone against that which approaches, a “rough Beast, its hour come round at last, slouch[ing] towards Bethlehem to be born.” So unlimited it shall be, prudishness notwithstanding, until the Beast is buried, one way or another.

  Brotherhood in times of survival. Peace and love on Earth sounds great even if unlikely.
  The beast has to die… Yet I tend to believe that evil can only be curbed, not eradicated for good.
  As far as the odyssey, I thought Ulysse was his name and that Penelope had to wait 20 years, with those prétendants squatting the palace, eating the food and fucking the servants as Penelope would not go for that.
  Pietro Citati wrote a great little book in Italian about the Iliad and mostly about the Odyssey: “la mente colorata”.
  Great journey of the human psyche.
  He was able to bring alive poetry that was of a different era ( 2500 years ago I think). He was able to make it easy to appreciate Homer’s second masterpiece, the Odyssey, while at the same time leaving the Mysterious pervade it all. The killing of the prétendants towards the end is a little gory. Gods can be pleased with blood I guess, but Ulysse had the decency to keep the people from praising the killing. It had to be done.

    Do you know if Citati’s Odyssey exists in English? A quick search shows only Italian, and from your brief description it sounds extremely interesting.
    
    And the nominative is Odysseus (pronounced Odyssefs) in ancient Greek, Ulysses comes from the Latin version. (We all know who we’re talking about in any case.) In modern Greek the nominative is Odysseas.
    
    About the other things, it sounds like we have a broadly similar feeling…

  Odysseus did all this and more in his old life, as part of the story of his wider people. But *his* story starts in media res (as Fred noted recently) — not merely as a gimmick: the Odyssey starts with Odysseus weeping on the beach of a tropical island where a beautiful sexy goddess is begging him to make him immortal so he can have 5* vacation with her for all eternity. Instead, he weeps and prays that he is allowed to try and cross the ocean in a raft, and hopefully make his way back home to Ithaca, where he fully expects that he will face a hostile regime (as he had learned of Agamemnon’s and others’ fates when they came back). And even if he somehow faces that successfully on his own, and even if his now middle-aged wife has faithfully waited for him for *20* years (10 the war + 10 the journey back), then he will just have old age and death to look forward to. This makes no “rational” sense whatsoever.
  
  The opening is so powerful that often goes over the head of the readers. You hear about “nostalgia” and “being homesick”, but this is obviously utterly misguided. This is not sentimentality what is going on here. Not by this guy and all that he has already been through, and done himself.
  
  Odysseus is renouncing the worldly goods in favour of being truly himself and fulfilling his own responsibilities as a husband, father and king, that cannot be compensated and substituted in any way. Even when he is killing the “suitors”, their names and stories have come to represent passions (pride, gluttony, stupidity etc). It is a proto-ascetic book.
  
  In that same frame of mind, the “rough Beast” cannot be defeated militarily. The “rough Beast” is (also) me, is also the winner of the war (whoever that may be).
  
  That doesn’t mean that anyone should bow down before the current leading embodiment of the rough Beast, of course. There is no disagreement here. And no questioning why the Russia-China approach is rational and meaningful etc.
  
  Finally, there is one last thought about Homeric epics: Agamemnon was “in the right” when he called for all the Greeks to go and avenge the sleight of Paris and the abduction of Helen. But before he could have his moment (in the name of what’s good and holy of course!), he had to sacrifice his own daughter for the ships to be able to start the voyage. No matter that he was “in the right”. [He also was covered by his time’s norms to take Chryseis and Bryseis for concubines, and we know how that worked out in each case.]
  
  In any case, my point is that the world would be much safer if any major power leader that was about to initiate large scale conflict had to sacrifice his own child first… Funny how we are arguably worse than primitive heathens sometimes…

    I agree evil can only be curbed/endured, however there is mundane evil and the exceptional Evil of our times. I agree with Eschatologists who hold we are in End Times. There is an exceptional coalescence of Evil (call it whatever you want, transnational Banksters Paradise, Parasite, Antichrist, techno-fascism..). It is on a rampage. Defeating its marshalled human hosts is possible, albeit at huge cost, as similar periods occurred in the past, which set it back for a long time.. Where there is a will, there’s a way.
    
    Ulysses was merely the Latinized rendition of Odysseus. The overall period of separation from Penelope was 20 years, but most did not know of his whereabouts once Troy was defeated. So most assumed he died in last 10 years. She may have been counseled by Athena to patience? I forget, it has been decades.
    
    Thank you for your tip of Pietro Citati. I love the classics, esp. Greek mythology. Much may not have been fable. The ancient world and human condition then was strange beyond our ken, and often mothers’ bedside tales had roots. And I agree, the current “prétendants” will also likely need their blood shed.     Your handle triggered pleasant memories, and I tried to use the nature and life’s work of Odysseus to speak for me. I read these works essentially as a child decades ago, fascinated by the adventure and fable of a bygone world. I was born in Africa, yet lived on 3 other continents most of my life, so I have been on my own “Odyssey,” hence love of history, geography and fable. I will need to revisit these works. I will draw better lessons now.
    I agree “the “rough Beast” cannot be defeated militarily.” Only the Messiah upon his return can do so; however we can check him in the meantime and make his legions rue their birth and choices in life..

You are reading too much into the possibility that religion has any role to play in the current relationship between Russia and China. They share the same geographical space…they share a border… they share a long history…they share social convulsions which aimed to make their societies more egalitarian…and currently they share the view that they need to de-dollarise…and it is this which generates anger by the Hegemon…and makes Russia and China feel even more closely aligned and easily capable of ignoring the – minor – differences that they experienced in the past.
Even without the pressures from outside, the two would have noted the benefits of stronger economic and social cooperation…
WITH the pressures from outside, the two note the benefits of even stronger military and, economic cooperation.
The social interaction then automatically includes a respect for each others cultural, philosophical and spiritual views.

  The great China Russia (unwalled) friendship all sounds to me with an undertone of the ephemeral, a passage through time, either leading also, specifically to new conditions within the existing relations to central Europe, pivotal ultimately for both Russia and the whole world, or the friendship based upon economic, military and political interests, that contain so much potential promise and goodwill for all, will not end well.
  
  This is my sense, and will obviously not be shared by others on here. It doesn’t necessarily matter, variety is the spice of life, and besides it may not hurt to wait before pronouncements of disdain or ridicule, who knows what chink in the wall may open up to throw light on some small facet within the existing convictions of minds until now, unseen or noticed…
  
  I can’t comprehend cultures and spirituality of beliefs and religions remaining separate in the passage of time, but as the world exists now, in this all pivotal, fundamental respect they most likely will be.
  It’s all good, I believe in the future regeneration of mankind and the capacity of the cold and suffering of the world”s alienated underdogs to be fired up and inspired by Homer, by greatness wherever it shines out.

I used to be as depressed as SCT Leo (much appreciate his translations!) but it is a process sifting the wheat from the chaff. The key appears to be to interpret language and to keep historical patterns of the two sides in mind. A lot of current info war between the Zones is perception management, currently dominated by West’s larger media horn. The same words in Agenda 2030 have different meanings according to user.. and part of fight against Zone B is inducing learned helplessness and hopelessness, in convincing that Russia-China are as evil and on-board with the depopulation, transhumanism and other poisons. Years ago, while visiting an article on Russia Insider discussing Russo-Japanese relations, one reader remarked something about baseball being a hallmark of US colonialism.
AFAIK baseball was introduced to Japan before WWII even broke out. They weren’t a colony then.
And outside of the US, Japan and South Korea, there are also certain countries in Latin America that play baseball. Surprisingly Cuba was one such country, and that said something considering it isn’t occupied by the US like Japan and South Korea are.

Basketball was invented in the US as well, and if I’m not mistaken it even had a presence in the Soviet Union as it continues to in today’s Russia.

The question is not how basketball succeeded where baseball could not. It’s how and why baseball is viewed in such a different light from basketball, other than basketball’s wider reach.

    I have vague recollection that George Washington in his diaries speaks of seeing “boys playing bats”, though I may have muddled the quote. The idea here is that the beginnings of “base-ball” lie in various locally agreed or ad hoc arrangements of game rules. My guess is that more or less all primate cultures play with sticks and objects they hit with sticks, or “bats”…that the genre is simply part of who we have been and are. I think the truckers are going to lose. Take a look at how they are being stigmatized, step by step. The state government has time. Most of the populace has been made stupid. The populace has only a little time before they have to get back to their families and their own work. They are also not experts in this field – the state governments are experts.

My reckoning/reasoning is based on actual wins. There are not any unless you can convince me otherwise. Australia has been out in the streets for a long time. They have not had one win far as I can see, perhaps a bone tossed here and there. The yellow vests have been out in the streets for +2 years now. They have not had one real win, far as I can see. We are not seeing Liberté, égalité, fraternité. Europe, various countries, out in the streets and no real win against any state government.

I don’t think the solution for the populace is at the ballot box as the ballot box is pre-loaded with those that are easily convinced to follow state government rules.

I think the solution and I don’t like saying this, is the slow work of building alternatives. Build an alternative .gov, as China and Russia built alternative economic and other systems. Be patient, and when the alternative is strong, remove the state government bugs. The street action only serves to make you, the streety, into a governmental target.

I want to believe the truckers are winning even if they might be ‘losing’ this first round. This is not going away. It will continue and has unified and strengthened the over half of the Country (54% as per recent poll) who want to see an end to these draconian restrictions. The biggest losers imho are the main stream media and Liberal Party of Canada. Fewer and fewer people believe anything the MSM tell them and I can’t see how Trudeau could ever run again for public office. Don’t forget that the last two weekends have seen huge demonstrations in support of the truckers in all the big Cities from coast to coast. More are planned. The truckers have massive support, not only across Canada, but in many other Countries. The standoff at the Alberta – US border is ongoing. RCMP has called in tow trucks to remove the big rigs blocking all lanes except one at the border, causing major delays. The towing companies refuse to comply. This is called civil disobedience. That might be the only way forward.

Meanwhile in Ottawa, the same crypto-fascists who have been pushing these restrictions to make life as difficult as possible for the unvaccinated, to make them feel the pain… are now complaining: ‘Why don’t they stop honking !!

People will find it very strange, but just a few days ago, there was a protest in Bolivia I think it was, where the ones similar to the Canadian protestors blocked some streets. The real Bolivians surrounded them and chased them out of there and would not leave until the cops restored order and they could continue with their rebuilding of their country. This little anti-protest was seen as western forces provoking (and it probably was).

There are many ways of thinking in this world and Global just does not fit. There are many in the Latin American countries and also some African countries, that consider these protests as lifestyle whining.

Iran says .. OK; good luck, but where were you when we could not import a headache tablet. Where were your protests then? You don’t belong to our ‘global’. Fight your own battles.

Venezuela says . OK; good luck, but you are now fighting the methods that we’ve been beaten with for upwards of generations. Fight your own battles. Make your own revolution and pay for it in blood and hunger as we had to and still struggle with.

Where last did you see a protest of this nature in the whole of Eurasia? (Yes, I’m sure someone will find this interesting and find something somewhere because they do not like my overall message).

Today, possibly yesterday as well, the Palestinians are out on major strikes. You know why? Because they are being killed by the Zionist regime, their orange groves and houses and other olive and food forests are being chopped down and taken mercilessly, and gangs of Zio’s rove the land and beat ’em up for fun. Do you think the Palestinians consider you as part of ‘global’?

I don’t have a dog in this fight, and my interest is more one of tactics and methods because I don’t wish you bad. Your controllers are now picking on the weak as a tactic, looks like to me. Just yesterday an older pensioner was beaten by young virile cops, because he honked his horn. In these last days, that Pastor that tried to keep his church open (I forget his name, something Polish sounding) was arrested and thrown somewhere in a little box, because he was supposed to speak at an event.

These are not singular events. They show that the one tactic will be to move in on the weak.

In the karmic way of things, others consider what you are doing as games, and an unwillingness to let go of a lifestyle that was built on the backs of others.

I wish you all well. Stay very focused with the three demands. Do not fall for anything else. Do not get involved in anything else. Look to the yellow vests for consistent tactics.

Your voices are already being used in the Anglo Saxon drive for war with China or anybody. Your protests here are being presented as against ‘communism and the CPC and for good’ol Capitalism’ at least from the US side. So, the movement is already being hijacked in terms of what it represents.

The stand off at the Alberta Montana border was so intense as of midnight today Alberta is lifting all covid restrictions. As of midnight Mar 1st, Saskatchewan lifting all covid restrictions. PEI in debate getting ready, Quebec, of all places saying mid March restrictions to be lifted.

It’s being reported the ‘stand off’ had made it into Mr Nanoparticles Cabinet.
Volunteer firefighters in Ottawa found a loop hole in the restrictions and began delivering fuel to the truckers.
A judge ruled the fuel must be returned to the truckers. Lots of online vids. Very happy people.

Now, how much of that is propaganda, well the convoy, according to Mr Nanoparticles, was mysogenistic racists, looking at the convoy and the mixed sex of the drivers, the Turd may as well have called them pedos.

Dear Friends, our Spring season is well upon us, and the garden calls. It’s perhaps mysterious that I am at peace with this troubled history, but honestly feel that it’s actually going rather well, though naturally turbulence can make moments of angst, and so unlucky people suffer terribly.

The highly hyperbolic Hal Turner has a bigbig story. Claims the disease has manifested in Yemen and done so simultaneously in several locations…the old J Appleseed routine, presumably. Evidently it’s been out for about 60 days… If true, the strong implication is that this “eradicated” pestilence was taken of a shelf and deliberately seeded in several loci more or less at the same time.

He also claims that the forbidden topic here dove-tails…as in reduced immune response and all that stuff.

Since there’s nothing much to do if he’s mistaken, and also nothing much possible to do if he’s correct…well we’ll know all about it one way of the other.
