So my real question, since the west thinks Putin’s tactics to force dialogue about security, and disbanding NATO expansionism is “aggressive”. In a previous Moveable Feast Cafe (a month or two ago?), I once shared an RT article discussing Japanese manga/anime and how they compare in production values (namely the level of wokeness or lack thereof) to their Western counterparts.
* In a (more recent) previous Moveable Feast Cafe a fellow reader talked about wanting to see an Asterix film (the 2018 CGI one), and amarynth responded something like “another Asterix and Obelix fan” (I take it amarynth is also one?). The same reader would then make another reference to Asterix on an even more recent MFC.
* On some previous threads I’ve seen references (some indirect) to the Warner Bros. Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies featuring Wile E. Coyote and the Roadrunner.

Now these may sound like stupid, pointless questions, but where does one draw the line on what pop-culture can be enjoyed? Do national origin and time period have any bearing (since the above examples are at least 50 years old)? Or is it just a matter of personal taste? Hard to understand your response, sorry. I think the original question was about whether Pearl Harbor (part of the main focus) is really a good example/comparison to bring up w.r.t. A document has been found in the British National Archives that supports the Russian authorities’ version that when Germany was unified, the Soviet Union was promised that NATO would not expand to the east, Der Spiegel reported.
The German publication Der Spiegel reported the discovery of an archival document, which, as the article says, reinforces the version of the Russian authorities that when Germany was unified, the Soviet Union was promised that NATO would not expand to the east.
The document was discovered in the British National Archives by the American political scientist, Boston University professor Joshua Shifrinson. Previously, it was stamped “Secret”, but then it was declassified, the newspaper writes, Kommersant reports .
We are talking about the minutes of the meeting of the political directors of the foreign ministries of the United States, Great Britain, France and Germany, held in Bonn on March 6, 1991. The topic was security in Central and Eastern Europe.
According to Der Spiegel, the document makes it clear that the British, Americans, Germans and French agreed that Eastern European membership in NATO was “unacceptable.”
“We made it clear at the 2 plus 4 negotiations (on the unification of Germany, with the participation of the FRG and the GDR, as well as the USA, USSR, Great Britain and France – approx. VIEW) that we are not expanding NATO beyond the Elbe (the text further specifies, that we are not talking about the Elbe, but about the Oder River – approx. VIEW). Therefore, we cannot offer Poland and the rest membership in NATO, ”the document cites the arguments of the political director of the German Foreign Ministry, Jurgen Chrobog.

As to be expected, in Ottawa, trucks are being towed, protesters, fined or arrested. I’m not sure where it goes from here, I don’t think this is the end, rather a beginning. I’m thinking strikes, walk outs, scheduled flu outbreaks, more acts of civil disobedience.

The truckers protest has opened my eyes to several things, one being the irreversible divorce between what has now become of the ‘left’ and the working class.
The silence of the ‘champions of the working man” in support of the truckers is deafening. Isn’t it obvious to the point of parody that the workers are inside the trucks?

OK, I will put forward the thought that the countries that set themselves out as democracies have never been democracies – based on internal politics and external actions. It was well hidden and as long as they could say Tell Us We Are Good and Where Is My Check (quote, CAF) – things were fine.
But now things have changed and the so-called democracies are being tested by their own citizens – and they are falling one by one. Australia was about first yes? European countries but they know how to look after themselves and they’ve taken the worst restrictions away. Britain, now Canada, and who else?
I would say this is the first time that their proffered democratic values are actually being put to the test.
