Good Man, I missed Jimi Hendrix, but met Ray Owen of Juicy Lucy, several times. He was a complete and utter Gentleman, and told me what Jimi was like. He stopped playing for a bit, and then decided to do it again, for the last 20 years or so in his life. He made a lot of friends again in South London including me. He always cadged a few cigarettes off me. A nicer man you couldn’t meet.
Like Jimi Hendrix, he just blew everyone away on stage, even in his 70’s. Never made any money. but that wasn’t the point.

In August 2015, President Obama warned of the “unintended consequences” of sanctions and weaponising the USD in a financial war:

No one listened. Washington and it’s handlers are now, in 2022, too stupid, desperate, and fearful to act rationally against any rising adversary, the China-Russia alliance, when the US Empire is disintegrating from within, and has lost almost all support from the rest of the world. The US is now effectively impotent, and a failed state, in every sense: economically, politically, morally, socially, and financially bankrupt.
If you want to bring in a global digital currency, you need to destroy every national currency first. Washington isn’t being stupid or desperate, they’re right on schedule.

Metro (food supermarket chain) limits food articles (only 1 item per person etc.).
This is nothing but rationing.
(The same goes on in Italy, where people buying like crazy all food they find)
Some supermarkets are totally !! empty in the morning and have to close after 2 opening hours.
The problem is not only shortage, but transport problems,
as fuel is so expensive, that trucker and companies don’t drive to supermarkets to bring noodles,
because they would not make a penny doing it.

This is only the beginning of a situation that is about to get much worse.

Sanctions (from Germany, EU against Russia)
are pointless because nothing can be achieved with them.
Putin is not impressed
and it has no influence on what is happening in Ukraine.
It is the “good” feeling for brainwashed people having done for “peace”.
But doing “nothing” sometimes is better than doing the wrong thing.
And now we (our politicians) are doing the wrong thing.
$600 billion Russian assets have been frozen. !!
This means that you can no longer do anything in the monetary system with this money.
This money is missing. “lack of financing costs / funding costs”.
(But the money is certainly happy when it no longer has to “work”… ;-)
The one whose money is frozen is now trying to get liquidity.
What to do?
All that remains is to sell assets, especially Gold.
Sell simply everything that can still be turn into money.
To be able to survive.
That is why the price of Gold has not yet been particularly affected by the crisis till now.
Russia has $480 billion outstanding money.
This money is gone.
Russia appears to be on the brink of bankruptcy (appears to be… but I think Putin prepared well for this).
Who did Russia lend the money to?
The money is in the West.
And the West is the one who suffers.
In addition, Blackrock wrote off $17 billion in other assets.
Not government bonds, but stocks, company shares,
everything that was built in the East is gone.
Money put into funds, into retirement provision = gone = zero.
Tomorrow is the interest payment date for Russian bonds.
$117 million must be paid.
But Russia cannot do that because everything is blocked.
SWIFT doesn’t work, banks went somehow bankrupt (or are closed).
This Russian money would go to the West, into pension funds, etc.
Thus default, the inability to pay, does now occur.
There is credit default insurance in the financial markets.
High risk Credit Default Swaps.
You pay a fee so that you get your money back from the insurer in the event of a default.
Normally, one assumes
that such failures do not occur.
Insurers, i.e. hedge funds, banks,
who take out these insurances against the bankruptcy of a state,
they have to pay now.
We’re talking about at least $100 billion European Banks, Hedge Funds etc. have to pay..
Overall, however, Russia has outstanding loans all over Europe of $500 billion.
Since they cannot pay (because of the sanctions),
there will be extreme distortions in the insurance sector.
Whether that will trigger a financial crisis in the West remains to be seen.
In 2008 there was also a problem with credit default swaps.
If the insurer can’t pay, it goes bankrupt.
We see significant slumps in the banking sector.
Commerzbank, Deutsche Bank are down almost 40% at the stock market.
If you look at bank stocks, you know
what is to come.
The high fuel prices in Europe, the sharp rise in food prices…
that runs under the motto inflation / currency devaluation.
We pay that extra.
Inflation this year is about 5 – 10% (in reality probably 15 – 20%)
This means that in 10 years the purchasing power of the $ or € would have fallen by 80%
(provided inflation does not rise).
About inflation, which is nothing else
as a process of expropriation for the saver, pensions.
We add to this via inflation
what we have done with the sanctions.
So far no insight or reason in sight. Politicians seem
to be totally delusional and dumber than a piece of flowerpot.
Completely insane and out of their mind,
not able to see one millimeter or inch into the future and what mess they are creating now.
Seen in this way, Putin does not have to invade Europe at all,
because we do the destruction ourselves.
Shooting into our knee and foot and arm and body nonstop all day long.

What we now see in the grocery store or at the gas station is nothing like
what is yet to come.
Since rationing is a children’s birthday party against our future.
Through the SWIFT shutdowns
many banks went bankrupt (or closed).
One of them is Sberbank Europe AG, the German subsidiary of Sberbank in Russia.
35,000 German savers / bank clients are affected.
They don’t have access to their accounts.
Bank broke and closed.
Now the German compensation fund must (should) compensate for this.
An account is insured up to €100,000 (the rest is lost)
The default insurance fund has to pay €1 billion to these customers,
just because SWIFT has been switched off.
Did the sanctions affect the war?
No.
There will be many other consequences to these.
Like dominos one falls and the second and the third and so on. Chain reaction.,
Everything is stolen from oligarchs. Simply just that way, out of the blue.
Yachts, houses, bank accounts … European Countries all steal what they can (confiscate, freeze whatever).
Is that supposed to be a “western value system”?
In the media the big success stories when a house is taken away again.

And this completely without following ANY law.
(e.g. you only can “confiscate” goods out of a crime, what has to be proven to the damaged, e.g. state of Russia… what can’t be done and so on…)

Confidence in the system is decomposed towards Zero.
If we don’t get any more money from the East,

India and China do not sanction. They will simply bypass SWIFT.
The lockdown is pulling the East away from us.
This is happening now. At high speed.
The East will not rejoin the western system anytime soon. For a very long time.

Dude, it hit me the source of the déjà vu with Br Gonzalo Lira! I likely knew him as a kid. We were in same social set, in same school, for the same several years, with likely mutual friends. A close friend of mine was a Cuban expat from Miami.. Doctorow is an eloquent Russia observer. I do not dispute his fears for ww3 and agree we are immersed in ongoing Total War. However I learned years ago to take him with a lot of salt. I cannot say precisely why; a cold heart towards Russians? Maybe he reminded me of the Independent’s Robert Fisk, who I read for a while before becoming disillusioned too. They took painstaking steps to justify or skirted the causative western irrationalities and crimes. Like studious bench scientists, they focus on their “areas of duty” as if researching bacteria – Doctorow with Russians and Fisk with Arabs. Perhaps I am being unkind. They are old-school and dispassionate. However the temperature has become quite heated in last three decades and dispassion may have become a rung on the ladder to complicity.
Let’s look at his latest:

Longtimeage an American Indian, kid from Chicago, told me story… Setting was a town in the gold country, the mother load…about 1963.
Seems that a fella and the fella’s brother-in-law were at loggerheads…the brother-in-law lived in Oakland, and the local fella lived in “Creekville”…’phone rang and our local fella got the word that brother-in-law was headed into the hills with his gun – having told many folks of his intent to kill. When bother-in-law arrived in town he no sooner got out of his ride than he took a 30.06 bullet to the head. Messy. The sheriff and the district attorney agreed that this was self-defense, that there had been no crime.
You may imagine that there was a matter of a dangerous discharge of fire-arm in city limits…but since the fella was known to be a good shot, and it was deer season, they decided that there had been no danger.
This self-defense eliminated any possibility that our local fella would get killed.
I would like some advice. I don’t have any confidence in U.S. church doctrine. I live in Tulsa Oklahoma. Is St. Anthony Orthodox a Russian inspired church or is it western inspired. I’d like to fine a place to attend but would like to know what I’m getting into.

Wars, unnecessary deprivation and proverty, contrived divisions and Hatred of the Other of the moment – all this suffering which leads to stress and hopelessness, loss of health, and if not careful bitterness and hardening of hearts. I believe that some of the German POW fellas disappeared into the US population…managed with friendly farmers to walk away. In those days this was not difficult. In fact I’m pretty sure I knew one, a friend of my dad in about 1960.
Some others, U Boot fellas, did not do so well. I knew a fella that had been a guard at Leavenworth…told the story of how the US mixed informers into the camps, and the fellas spotted said informers, and killed them…nobody would say who did it…so Leon Jaworski (yes, that guy) and some other experts tortured a few into confessions…and several sailors were tried and convicted for murder. Executions were pending, as a counter to German nazi trials of US flyer POW’s. War ended. The U-Boot men were hanged anyway in elevator shaft. Truman signed the order.
There was a German TV movie about this. But I had the story from the guy who did all the FOI research…long before the film, which I have never seen.

At the opening of Zelenski’s speech, Nancy gave the Ukrainian fascist slogan that translates I believe to “Glory to Ukraine”. Don’t know about the salute part.
Next Zelenski apparently appeared wearing an Iron Cross on his us-army-green T-shirt. Of course, in a fascist body like the US Congress, everyone stood and cheered both.
And note, I’m from the counter-culture that has long considered not only the Trump Cult of Personality as fascists, but also the pro-war Democrats. If you go back to the 60’s, you will frequently hear this rhetoric. Hunter S. Thompson refers to ‘the Seventh Reich’ in his classic book “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” in the early 70’s.

On our land, united by common fate. This is what the people of Crimea and Sevastopol must have been thinking as they went to the referendum on March 18, 2014. They lived and continue to live on their land, and they wanted to have a common fate with their historical motherland, Russia. They had every right to it and they achieved their goal. Let’s congratulate them first because it is their holiday. Happy anniversary!
Over these years, Russia has done a great deal to help Crimea and Sevastopol grow. There were things that needed to be done that were not immediately obvious to the unaided eye. These were essential things such as gas and power supply, utility infrastructure, restoring the road network, and construction of new roads, motorways and bridges.
We needed to drag Crimea out of that humiliating position and state that Crimea and Sevastopol had been pushed into when they were part of another state that had only provided leftover financing to these territories.
There is more to it. The fact is we know what needs to be done next, how it needs to be done, and at what cost – and we will fulfil all these plans, absolutely.
These decisions are not even as important as the fact that the residents of Crimea and Sevastopol made the right choice when they put up a firm barrier against neo-Nazis and ultra-nationalists. What was and is still happening on other territories is the best indication that they did the right thing.
People who lived and live in Donbass did not agree with this coup d’état, either. Several punitive military operations were instantly staged against them; they were besieged and subjected to systemic shelling with artillery and bombing by aircraft – and this is actually what is called “genocide.”
The main goal and motive of the military operation that we launched in Donbass and Ukraine is to relieve these people of suffering, of this genocide. At this point, I recall the words from the Holy Scripture: “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” And we are seeing how heroically our military are fighting during this operation.
These words come from the Holy Scripture of Christianity, from what is cherished by those who profess this religion. But the bottom line is that this is a universal value for all nations and those of all religions in Russia, and primarily for our people. The best evidence of this is how our fellows are fighting and acting in this operation: shoulder to shoulder, helping and supporting each other. If they have to, they will cover each other with their bodies to protect their comrade from a bullet in the battlefield, as they would to save their brother. It has been a long time since we had such unity.
It so happened that, by sheer coincidence, the start of the operation was same day as the birthday of one of our outstanding military leaders who was canonised – Fedor Ushakov. He did not lose a single battle throughout his brilliant career. He once said that these thunderstorms would glorify Russia. This is how it was in his time; this is how it is today and will always be!

I don’t know where to post this, I’ve never commented in the cafe before. In any case, I have something on my mind I’d like to talk about:
I love this site and I am familiar in general with the consensuses among the commenters and staff. While I respect and highly value their views in general, I find myself in disagreement on a number of ‘assumptions or it so seems on this site:
– Russia doesn’t want all of Ukraine. I think it does, and if it doesn’t it should. I understand that it is a basket case economically, socially and politically, and those certainly are major negative aspects. But there are positive aspects:
– The Union State being formed would be able to control the highlands/mountains and the concentrations of pipelines in western gallacia.
– The Union State would control a larger share of global wheat and other agricultural production.
– Missile flight distances & times to Moscow would be increased.
– The industrial potential of Ukraine could be at least partially restored, this process coinciding with the economic/social/political redevelopment of the region
– The original capital of the Russian peoples would not be controlled by the anglosaxons and used as a political antipode/antagonist to Russia
– Excellent locations for developing the integrated air defense system(s)
– I’m sure there are more that I’m not aware of/haven’t thought of…Ukraine was in far worse shape in WW2 when the soviets fought tooth and nail to retake that territory form the Nazis. They paid a huge price to control that territory not so long ago, it doesn’t make sense to me that today it’s different and even though they would need t pay a far far smaller price, now the territory isn’t even desirable at all, because of temporary problems? I don’t see it. To me the value of all the positive aspects minus all the negative aspects it is still the better option, I think.
– While nobody has spoken directly negatively about the Union State project, I gather by how little it is discussed that it must me of marginal relevance to the people on this site, for whatever reason. I find the idea quite interesting and would love to see it formed and include all the old Soviet Republics, except the rascally B3. I find myself assuming more often than not that the USA is trying very hard to thwart that project, as a point of focus, because it fears the power of that potential geopolitical entity. Very much.
For the Union State to be hatched into a healthy environment for its success, these things would be ideal (I think):
– Control all the territory of all the states involved into a single integrated defense system, using elements and staff from all the constituent republics
– Torpedo the USD reserve currency status and global financial hegemony of the anglos
– No NATO this time – pull the europeans away from the USA and establish friendly-enough working relations with Europe
– Multipolar global security environment instead of bipolar or monopolar
– Etc.
Would it not be best to use the current Special Operation in Ukraine as a vehicle to both defend and control all* of Ukrainian territory (keeping it out of western hands) and most importantly creating the desirable external global conditions ideal for Union State’s success?
– Russia might be going slow militarily in Ukraine not only to protect lives and minimize damage, but also to give opportunity for other states to act independently but in unison. If Russia draws NATO’s focus to Eastern Europe and causes them to allocate resources there, it opens up other ‘fronts’ such as Syria, China, Venezuela & Cuba, etc.
– China can have better conditions to integrate Taiwan
– Now that KSA is flirting with the petroyuan idea, “Biden” is trying to pivot to Venezuelan oil reserves. Venezuela could flout USA’s advances and side with the new monetary/commodities system being developed by China and Russia, along with perhaps KSA, UAE, Iraq, Syria, Iran, etc. as an alternative to the USD based hegemony. This would leave USA fresh out of (“good”) options on trying to reserve its unipolar power, but it would strongly reinforce the new system.
– Syria still has US, Turkish, and other coalition troops on the ground, some of which guard/steal oil from the Syrian oil fields. The war could be brought to an end and Syria could begin to be rebuilt, and normalize relations with its neighbors, with a new security sheriff in town – Russia.
– There is the matter of Iran as well, which is in negotiations alongside Russia with The West right now as all this Ukraine business unfolds. At the same time Israel is apparently seeing things more along Russia’s perspective when it comes to Ukraine, and Turkey is clamoring to be the intermediary to facilitate Ukraine-Russia negotiations. I have also heard rumors of Turkish-Iranian developments as well but I have little knowledge of Iran and the related issues I’ve mentioned.

These are just a few matters off the top of my head, and I am not a professional historian or analyst. I am a casual but highly interested observer. So I’m sure my views overlook a lot, which is why I decided to post this. I welcome your critique of this view, and encourage you to share your views in more detail on these topics.
I’m picturing a 2-5 year from now world with:
– No NATO, or a NATO with its 1997 borders
– Strategic multipolarity
– A modernized, well-thought-out version of the USSR, the new Union State with no Baltics
– A weakened, post-neoliberal USA, still powerful but not like the past 30 years, maybe a third its current strength
– A much more powerful China, and much progress on the BRI project
– A West Asia that is free or largely free of anglozionist hegemony
– A more peaceful stable world, ready to raise a new generation of children who aren’t indoctrinated from a young age with war propaganda?
I am certainly a dreamer, but I’m not the only one.

I am entirely in agreement with your thoughts concerning Ukraine as a totality overseen by Russia, becoming united with Russia..Ideally this would have to concern mutual acceptance by neighbouring Slavic countries.
I don’t see any of this happening in our lifetime, but eventually it will arise, historically and in the future they belong together.
Habits die hard, propaganda hasn’t helped, and western agendas go right back hundreds if years and include the involvement and subversive interests of Catholicism from Poland.
If humanity is to progress beyond the next hundred or so years, then things must shift massively, breaking down old notions born of generations steeped in lack of clarity and knowledge. Every step towards this helps.
The concepts of divided states of the Ukraine are a realistic outcome of the war, but Nazism cannot be limited
to the stronghold of Nazism directed from Kiev. If this were the case then wars would never end.

Russia has been thought of somewhat like a highly desirable vast country hovering without geographic relevance, and specific to the west. What forces have created this separation ? Well, ties have now successfully been severed, any immediate possibilities of mutual interactions are gone, Russia will be seen globally as having geographic relevance to China. It is certainly a massive shift anyhow…
In a spiritual sense however, Russia has global geographic relevance, and hence the all out spiritual battle being fought is one for humanity.
