There have been no more Open Threads and Sitreps. I thought the military reports were biased but Russian Bear frequently provided military reports straight from the Defense Ministry. It and other reports from one side were still valuable. I only skimmed through them. They were better than nothing. The Open Threads have been gone but they, too, were dynamic and free and liked by a lot of people. The website gained from the reappearance of the Saker, but I think it lost from the absence of Sitreps and Open Threads. The last report from Russian Bear was on August 7. It shows well what we’re missing, so I copy it below. Reports give information even when they’re wrong (perhaps a little warning would help if the reports are dubious), which is why some people wisely read more what they disagree with than what they agree with.

Seversk.
Positional battles at Serebryanka, Ivano-Daryevka, Verkhnekamensky. After the enemy transferred reserves, the front stabilized here, the emphasis in the battles for the Seversk-Soledar line shifted to the assault on the eastern part of Soledar that had begun.
4.
Avdiivka.
Positional battles north of Avdiivka near Novobakhmutovka, Novoselki-2, Kamenka.
Fighting on the outskirts of New York. In the industrial zone of Avdiivka – no changes. South of Avdiivka, the main fighting is taking place in the Pesok area.
5.
Sands.
Battles for the northwestern part of the village. The enemy strengthened his artillery grouping and transferred reinforcements to cling to the village. Our troops are clearing and demining. Artillery is intensively working in the northwestern part of Pesok.
The enemy is actively fortifying Vodyanoe and Pervomaiskoye, which he intends to hold after the loss of Pesok.

Nikolaev.
Intense fighting on the river. Ingulets, where the enemy suffered heavy losses, trying to create a full-fledged bridgehead on the eastern bank of the river in the Andreevka area.
In the area of Blagodatnoye, the Russian Armed Forces are putting pressure on the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the village itself is badly damaged, but so far it has not been occupied.
Strong attacks on Nikolaev, in the Nikopol direction.
In the Krivoy Rog direction, a large warehouse with NATO ammunition was destroyed.
The enemy is shelling Kherson, Novaya Kakhovka, Energodar (including the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant), the Berislav region, and is trying to prepare a strike in the Krivoy Rog and Nikopol directions.

Raisins.
Positional battles in the area of Bolshaya Kamyshevakhi, Kurulka.
Balakleya is unchanged.
Gusarovka is still under the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Positional battles in the area of Prishib, Sidorov, Bogorodichny, Dolyna, and also near Mazanovka. The RF Armed Forces strike at the Slavic-Kramatorsk agglomeration.

Kharkov.
The RF Armed Forces are pressing the enemy in the direction of the Russian and Cherkasy Tishok north of the northeastern outskirts of Kharkov. Fighting at Dementievka. Attacks on Kharkov and Chuguev – almost on a daily basis.
The enemy continues shelling the border areas of the Belgorod and Kursk regions.

Odessa, Dzerzhinsk, Vuhledar, Zaporizhia – no significant changes.

If you are eager for daily reports, you can find those on readovka.news. With the help of deepl.com you can translate those into any language you like. Occasionally they also link into daily statements of the ministry of defense, delivered by Igor Jewgenjewitsch Konaschenkow.

I specifically miss Amarynth too. I’ve always loved the Saker but got used to Amarynth’s style. The trust level was high. The quality was high, combined with a really cool nonconfrontational style. If there was an Amarynth blog, I’d be on it too. I can’t say enough good things.

There is quite a large degree of freedom of expression in Ukraine. Gonzalo Lira said in a recent video that the leaders of Ukraine should be executed after the war (named one too, I recall), and continued publishing videos inside Ukraine! This linked article is an example of very free and critical investigative journalism (in war time). When that installation in Mariupol was surrounded by the Russian army and Ukrainian commando leaders there complained against top authorities, The Kyiv Independent published their criticisms (I read them). I think that we can assume such freedom of expression must be appreciated by the Ukrainian people.

Group of 9/11 Families Tells Biden, Afghan Central Bank Funds ‘Are
Theirs, Not Ours’
Aug. 18 (EIRNS)—In an Aug. 16 letter to President Joe Biden, 77
members of the 9/11 families called on him to affirm that the $7 billion in
Da Afghanistan Bank (central bank) funds currently being held by the
Federal Reserve Bank of New York belong to the Afghan people and
should be returned to them. To use those funds to pay off 9/11 family
members in court judgments “is legally suspect and morally wrong,” the
letter argues, and urges Biden to modify his Feb. 11, 2022, Executive Order
and “affirm that the Afghanistan Central Bank funds belong to the Afghan
people and the Afghan people alone.”
In previous court cases, some 9/11 families were awarded $3.5 billion
from the confiscated funds, while the Biden administration began
negotiations with the Taliban to create a mechanism by which to distribute
the remaining $3.5 billion to the Afghan people, stipulating that the Taliban
could not access it, and offering the spurious argument that the Afghan
Central Bank lacked the appropriate regulatory and other means to handle
the funds responsibly. Following the recent killing of al-Qaeda leader
Ayman Al Zawahiri, the administration halted negotiations on creating this
alternative mechanism on the pretext that the Taliban hadn’t broken with
al-Qaeda.
The letter from the families makes the point that earlier lawsuits brought
by a small group of 9/11 family members, “and the legal claims involved,
are complex. But these arguments are founded on a false premise. This
money does not belong to the Taliban,” as the lawsuits claimed. “This

Next they might accuse the U.S. of not going to the moon. At least one Hollywood movie has done that already (the movie “explained” that it was a lie to mislead the Russians). I remembered her testimony as I looked at the changing speeds of the plane, “How would this plane hit a building and I (who was sitting in the last rows) remain outside afterward?” Then the “invader” changed the story on the spot (book), saying that most of it was inside, adding that she only saw “the tail end of it”, an old abuse trick that some may be familiar with (you erase one fourth and it passes through). I’m a man and no child, that’s for sure; what about you? In that sense we can say the ‘collective West’ have ceased being <democracies and have become oligarchies
In fact, we can go even further and say that:

I think Russia,China,and some other states need to form a new G-whatever number formation. The G7 is dead,and the West is working hard to kill off the G20. It’s time to form a new group of nations of the future. The G20 is rigged to favor the West,and it needs to go. The way it is set up today the EU states get an extra member in it. Not only are Germany,France,and Italy included as members but they get an EU separate member to go with that. If you get to include the EU as a separate member then other groupings,say the EAEU should have a separate member as well. But it would be simpler to just can the G20 and create a new formation. That would include the major PPP GDP economies that are “willing” to join. And leaving out those whose only purpose in belonging to the formation is to control it and shape it to their thinking.

I haven’t been on blog for a while although I read it every few days. I just read all of this cafe and I must say an eyebrow was raised.
So here’s y’all pontificating about past misdeeds and assassinations relegated to the dustbin of history yet again. I am a little more up to date, living within spitting distance of Sevastopol’s harbor and the north side beaches.
Drone attacks are almost nightly, one or two slipping through the outer lines of air defense before being shot down and one shot down over our harbor mouth, a piece of which landed on the roof the Black Sea Flot HQ facility and starting a small fire that blazed for every bit of two minutes. We could see it on the other side of harbor in City Center. Big deal.
We are on a heightened security protocol simply because of the first hit on HQ some weeks ago which frightened the bejesus out of our local PTB. Again, big deal. However this strengthened protocol had one desirable affect in that something we’ve been screaming at ‘them’ since February of ’14, IOW this city is now closed tight. All vehicles coming in are stopped and searched and documents checked. No propeeska for Sevastopol no entry. No propeeska for Krimea, most are refused entry also. Anything with an orc tag is denied entry, period.
For the first time in VCO’s and my memory there are increased Militsiya, Rusgvardya and DPS patrols on our streets. As usual we are over run with ‘guests’, tourists, whom we despise with a passion, quite literally half the vehicles on our streets are not ours, the district numbers on the tag tell the tale.
Lots of them have been stopped at the roving block posts and more than a few have been politely advised that it’s time to go home. It’s a little late in the game for that deal, all with children will leave the last few days of August because school starts September, actual day don’t matter, even Sunday. Still, we will get some peace and quiet in our sleepy little village on North Side.
At this time my entire focus of living is to arrange the future for my charming bride of 20 years. Turns out I don’t have too many years left, maybe five or six, but she’s a tad younger than I am so I’m moving heaven and earth to prepare for the inevitable. She is fully aware of this action and the time for tears and sadness is long over, now we, and we are a team, are fighting tooth and claw against this illness and preparing for the time when ‘her rock of stability’ is no longer here. Such is life and fate and I will succeed in this endeavor.
Aside from this tale of woe, all is normal here. There is no curfew although noise abatement is ruthlessly enforced. Prices for foods and consumables are stable as is the price for those staples of life, Massandrah Wine, white beer and good beef. Fresh veggies are delivered every morning before dawn, our Tatari a few clicks east of us are working mightily to keep the food emporiums and kiosks well stocked. So far it is working and our Tatari brethren are following the price restrictions to the letter.
Now it’s time for VCO and me to have our evening glass of Massandrah, sit in the Florida Room and discuss the days events. Our children will be with us or course, Sophia and Aleksandr snoring at our feet, our youngest, Kristl’Yahnah, begging for a taste of wine. We did loose two of our children this year, Plushya died in early summer and Ye’Katarina passed away almost a month ago, so we’re down to three. Sophia is also not well, her hips are gone and we have to help her out of the house to walk. On the other hand she’s as happy as can be and the youngster Kristl’Yannah, aka Kristina, simply adores Sofik and the two of them are inseparable, even sleeping curled up to each other.
All in all life could be a lot worse than it is.

My wife lost three younger co workers within as many months. 26 years of work, maybe one a year, maybe, less to be honest. We are not social butterflies we stick to home, always have, so other than co workers, friends are few and far between….loose a few earlier than expected, its even tweener. Me, two former co workers, younger and two friends…..sis, who provided tons of technical info, most posted here, back in the early days of the thingy and ways to stay safe…..she lost two younger co workers. Just on appearances, me not being a doc, underlying known, in remission, or unknown ailments can cause what is known today as SADS. I’d be thinking, me being a leprechaun, that SADS happens when one adult rolls over a smothers the adult sleeping beside them…..it’s a de Lepre thing, can’t help it.

A reprieve from the madness, our corn plants are starting to give up their bounty, fresh cobs so tender and sweet cooking is not required. They also have secondary ears which didn’t happen last year. 9′ tall, must be the horse guano. The tomatoes are finally ripening. Being a split hair south of the 50th, frost is but weeks away.
My 5gal bucket potato experiment worked. This year we did both in ground and some in pails. Yield was the same, but just pulling up the bottomless pail was easier than digging in the dirt. Gettin’ old, eh. Planted full potatoes, no pieces, each 1/4lb seed potato is producing 6/7 lbs of potatoes.
