If Russia loses this struggle for a multipolar world most of the blame can be laid at the feet of her “friends”. The US/EU is going around the world threatening those countries if they aid Russia. Will that work for them? I don’t know. But what I do know is that I don’t see China,India,Iran,etc,having a conference together and making a “joint statement” saying that they will not be threatened by anyone. And that as long as the US/EU continues to supply weapons to Ukraine they will have nothing to say about what the trade with of others with Russia will entail. And that if they think they can use sanctions against their nations then they will see sanctions directed back at them. And without the US/EU trade outside the US/EU the West would collapse quickly. It is the non-US/EU nations that have the power. They just need to use that power.Not using it is why the US/EU is able to threaten the world.
I have a 6th sense that trade with China is narrowing and if you want some things made in China, you’ll have to go through India.
How soon before all China trade is diverted through India, and how many different directions can a cost of living inflation spike come from before more citizens economic backs break. They’re breaking prettty bad right now.

I heard a rumor about an interview the other day in Moscow that was of the former Ukrainian PM before the coup in 2014. He was reported to have said that a shadow government has been formed,or is in the process of being formed in Russia to take power in the rump Ukraine at liberation. He was reported to have said that that government would only hold power for 2-3 years. That the rump Ukraine during that time would be under martial law and denazified (the WWII postwar model done in Germany). That during that time the arrests and trials of war criminals would take place. And then at the completion of that period free elections for a neutral rump Ukraine will be held. Without any US/NATO influence permitted. Nor neo-nazi ultra nationalist parties permitted to exist in the rump Ukraine.
If true,that is something I’ve been hoping for for years.

Large 6.3-magnitude earthquake hits Syria-Turkey border at the same time a C7.1 flared from sunspot region AR3226 at 7:13 UTC on February 20. This was a minor to moderate geomagnetic storm but the
plates were already in movement. An increase in the Northern and Southern Lights might also increase and a blue flash was seen. This is rare but this is a rare event.

Current solar activity is low, as we wait for the expected G1 (minor) geomagnetic storm. The impact of the Earth-directed component of the coronal mass ejection (CME) from the X2.2 flare has not happened yet as of this writing (11 UTC on February 20), but it is thought to be imminent. The possible extent of the resulting geomagnetic storm has been downgraded to a range of G1 (minor) to G2 (moderate), however. If sunspots are active, more solar flares will result creating an increase in geomagnetic storm activity for Earth. Therefore during sunspot maximums, the Earth will see an increase in the Northern and Southern Lights and a possible disruption in radio transmissions and power grids. The storms can even change polarity in satellites which can damage sophisticated electronics. Therefore scientists will often times preposition satellites to a different orientation to protect them from increased solar radiation when a strong solar flare or coronal mass ejection has occurred.

I think it’s “possible” during quite rare astrophysical conditions but to answer your question, no you can’t. I have heard of people seeing northern lights even further south though, but i think it’s indeed very rare…
On cold nights at 41 North I have watched the lights… that was about 1995 or so. They seems to lie about 20 miles away…dancing fairies.
It, the relationship, minds me of piezoelectric effect, when electrons pump in or out the physical dimensions change…crystal lattice stuff… Not quite the same, but similar…maybe.

The fact that China waited until the specter of war is threatening them before ramping up their coziness with Russia could indicate China means to fight the West down to the last Russian. Why not help before? This is not a friendly site and they are even asking.

MOSCOW, RUSSIA — The war in Ukraine has been going on for one year. Kyiv is grateful to the West for supplying weapons worth tens of billions of dollars. It seems that the supply will not stop in 2023. On the contrary, they may increase compared to the previous year. In reality, Ukraine held off the Russian invasion thanks to Western supplies. Without them, the war would not have been an everyday topic for a long time.
But it’s not just weapons. Complex logistics networks are the heart of Ukrainian-Western arms supplies. It has already become clear that British commandos are in Ukraine and have coordinated some key operations. It can be said that Ukraine uses the entire NATO satellite network in the region. CIA agents put their “stealth network” at the service of Kyiv. The New York Times reported on this, writing about the “invisible network of commandos and spies” involved in logistics, intelligence, and training.
Russia, on the other hand, was forgotten. Relying solely on its powerful military-industrial complex, Moscow received little help. North Korea gave missiles to Russia, and Iran on the other hand provided kamikaze drones and ballistic missiles. But where is China in the whole scheme?
The US warned China
Washington’s biggest fear is Beijing’s possible support for Moscow. Can you imagine China deciding to provide it? Of course, at the moment, official Beijing does not supply lethal weapons to Russia. Some deliveries caused quite a stir last year. For example, the Russian DJI drones were converted by the Russians into deadly kamikazes. But these are civilian drones, the sale of which is almost impossible to limit.
Washington was quick to draw a “red line” against China. Just a few days ago, US Secretary of State Mr. Anthony Blinken and UN Ambassador Mrs. Linda Thomas-Greenfield warned China that supplying arms to Russia would be a “red line.”
The warnings come at a time when there are apparently intelligence signals that Beijing is preparing to give weapons to Russia. Mr. Blinken expressed similar concerns. And they remain, even though he held a conversation with China’s top diplomat, Wang Yi, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
Russian tanks for Russia from China
China can completely bypass Washington’s red line and, without providing weapons to Russia, provide weapons to Russia. Confused, isn’t it, but this is international politics at its best. Here’s how it can be done:
Russia has a huge military-industrial complex. However, it was not loaded at full power before the war. Russia was actually producing a hundred tanks a year until the end of 2021. This is a very small number because we are talking about the capacity of the Russian Federation to produce 3,000 tanks per year.
This capacity still exists but cannot be used. Russia has not invested in its modernization over the years. He started doing it only in 2022 after he invaded Ukraine. We have talked about this “Russian trait” of not doing things right at the right time. This moment that Moscow missed.
China may not supply weapons to Russia, but nothing is stopping it from supplying new equipment to the Russian arms industry. Semiconductors, processors, and microchips are also on the list that China can provide. In this way, China can revive the capacity of Russian industry. In this way, Beijing can guarantee the production of hundreds of tanks in Russia.
Spare parts
Beijing can provide Moscow with a large range of spare parts. China still has Russian weapons systems in service, which Beijing is gradually decommissioning. Take the Russian Su-27 for example. China doesn’t really need it anymore and is therefore decommissioning it. Although there are no such signals, Beijing may provide Moscow with a set of spare parts for the Russian Su-27. They will not be in huge quantities, but they will reduce the burden to some extent.

The same can be said about the Chinese S-400 air defense systems, which can be “cannibalized” for the benefit of the Russian army. Speaking of tanks, however, China’s Type 99 tank production facilities can provide spare parts for the Russian T-72s. This is because Type 99 is based precisely on the Russian T-72. China will only need to minimally retool its tools and equipment at the Norinco plants and start churning out parts for Russian tanks.
Especially considering that Russian tanks follow one basic design line, Moscow can benefit from spare parts for almost all of its tank models sent to the battlefield.
The Chinese influence
After Russia and the US, China is the third largest defense industry. Her capacity is comparable to the two political opponents. The restoration of Russian production to its full glory can be done with Chinese equipment.
And since we are talking about tanks [although everything said applies to other sectors of military production as well] China can still give Russian tanks to Russia without Beijing directly exporting them. The Chinese influence. As much as the politicians in Washington don’t like it, Beijing has that influence, and it’s growing all the time.
China can replace Iran’s entire air defense wing. China can renew Iran’s entire tank inventory. This means that if China wants to, it can bypass warnings from Washington and “deliver Iranian weapons” to Russia, positioning itself in the Iranian market with its new tanks and air defense systems.
China can do the same with North Korea, Serbia, and Belarus. Although the embargo on North Korea is a kind of obstacle, it does not mean that it is impossible. Although the supply of Chinese weapons to Belarus would almost certainly mean “crossing a red line”, it also does not mean impossible.
Training and Renewal
Vehicles like the Y-20 for example, which are not weapons, can be leased to Russia. This will reduce the liability and depreciation of the Russian Il-76 and An-124, as well as provide a wide range of Russian logistics.
However, China can provide repairs to Russian weapons. The aid will not be exhausted only with repairs. Temporary export of Chinese express could provide the Russian military with training processes that they certainly need. At the very least, they will provide a new perspective on the war from a bystander state.

China can, with non-military material means, support the Russian invasion of Ukraine, thereby avoiding everything “red” defined by the West.

Now that these country’s all have their best talent engaged in training and perhaps hands on, the country’s cities and suburbs they left behind are becoming evermore dangerous with each passing day . Small towns appear a bit safer.
Panic is measured in close calls, how close were you to this or that shooting, or those nasty road ragers who have no place to go and you just got on their last nerve. The more times a citizen narrowly misses a disaster, they know its only a matter of time before they are swept into the newly created fray, and it shows up in panic conversations everywhere.
You even now know how much money someone has just by standing in line at the grocery store, the economic confidence has been swept away by the silence from the last incident and today we simply can’t afford another incident.
So let the war rage on and damn the economic torpedoes, wish all well on the ride down, for it sure looks like its locally going down, and hope the next disaster doesn’t interrupt your family’s life the way it has so many other peoples.
A couple of points:
1. China makes a fatal mistake to prioritize economic benefits above their very survival. Hopefully they are waking up. They should look at the mistakes made by Russia in following that policy with the West over the last 3 decades. It was a near fatal mistake for Russia. And now we see Russia scrambling to change that now. While much of the problems they face today would not exist had they not neglected their own home economy and over focused on trade with their EU/NATO “pardners” (i.e.enemy states).China by following those same policies will lead them to the same danger. Except unlike Russia China doesn’t have the same amount of natural resources inside China that Russia has to save them. Their survival depends on them correcting that error today. And not waiting until it might be too late to make the needed corrections.
2. An interesting development taking place in Belarus. Belarus is amending the law to extend the death penalty to crimes of treason. While at the same time the security services are revealing (not really any surprise to me) that the EU/NATO security services are trying to recruit Belarussian officials and military to work for them and betray their country. The new law chances will have two needed benefits. (1) It will let potential traitors know that they will pay the ultimate price if they work for their countries enemies. And that should lessen the pool of potential traitors available to their enemies. (2) It will punish those that have betrayed their country. Removing them from being a danger to their country forever. And serving as a needed object lesson to others. And possibly there will be a third benefit. It will allow Russia to see if that move is a benefit. And serve as a possible model for future legal reform in Russia as well.
Are we seeing betrayal by Serbia? And will the Serbian people accept that,or can we see a 1941 moment coming up:

3. How many MIGs does Serbia have and what is it going to do with them?
Yeah, this is a topic for reflection: against the backdrop of conversations, hints and unrealizable promises about the supply of Western combat aircraft to Ukraine, Serbia turned up at the right time with its fleet of several dozen MIGs, some of which were simply donated to it by Russia.

P.S. I could remember a similar situation with The American Conservative, which had a comment system not unlike the one at Moon of Alabama. One could look back at discussions using any search engine. After they switched to Disqus and redesigned the site, those discussions could only be accessed on the Internet Archive. Sadly not every page of comments was archived. I’d hate to see this same fate befall here as well.

It’s astonishing that the good doctor K is not ashamed…his donnee, his suspension of disbelief mirrors the moral contradictions and attendant low quality of the US Army officers, the commissioned officers, with whom I have had to pretend to work…the noncoms were pretty good and fairly capable though…and the retired noncoms had become deeply ashamed – being men of certain memories, of fascist murders and betrayals.
That said, Doctor K gives a pretty interesting presentation…

US sending 200 more troops to Taiwan, more than quadrupling the current number to bolster a training program for the island’s military amid what the US perceives as a rising threat from China.
Word on the street is that China is working toward a defense agreement with Russia, something the Chinese weren’t interested in until now that things are a little darker for the dragon. Hypocritical dragon but under the circumstances it would be foolish for Russia and China to split.

This number will expand a much smaller training program, which has included the National Guard, Special Ops, and U.S. Marines in the past.
The Michigan National Guard will also train a contingent of the Taiwanese Army, including some training as part of larger exercises, on U.S. soil.
