The U.S. contractor killed in Bulgaria was testing weapons for Syrian rebels (I suspicioned it had to do with Ukraine). “Purple Shovel” is the name of the contracting company:
A U.S. defense contractor killed in a blast in Bulgaria last week was working for a program to train and equip Syrian rebels fighting against Islamic State, U.S. officials said Wednesday.
The American died when a rocket-propelled grenade misfired at a military range in Anevo in central Bulgaria on Saturday.
Two other U.S. defense contractors were also badly injured in the explosion.
“The defense contractors… are employees of the company Purple Shovel, which has been awarded a contract by U.S. Special Operations Command, at the request of U.S. Central Command, to support the Combined Joint Interagency Task Force-Syria,” the U.S. embassy in Sofia said in a statement.
“Wie das ungarische Magazin Kárpát Hírek meldet, hat ein US-Militärkonvoi am Dienstagnachmittag den Grenzübergang Tschop von Ungarn in die Ukraine passiert. Ungarns Verteidigungsministerium bestätigte die Nachricht.”
“As the hungarian magazine Karpat Hirek reports, a US military convoy crossed the border in Chop from Hungary to Ukraine on tuesday afternoon. The hungarian defense ministry confirmed the information.”
They are (supposedly, anyway) only going to take part in a military exercise named “Fearless Guardian”, which is what they’re calling their training of National Guard.
The US soldiers will leave the area between the 13 and 14 June again and return to the Hungarian border village Tornyiszentmiklós. (when we may again be regaled with stories of convoys going in).
The amazing thing is, nobody in Hungary has anything to gain by proving any USA, NATO or any other armaments entering Ukraine. Yet this is at least the third time someone there has produced and published images of such convoys. But half the world has something to gain by proving Russian armaments in Ukraine and NOBODY CAN GET A PHOTO.

…
No wonder it was so easy to convince the Bulgarians to abandon South Stream. The country is full of Mercs with weapons!
Interesting news tidbit, already posted but here with the confirmation of the hungarian defense ministry:

There were some confusing reports about which direction the convoy was crossing
like “special convoy left from Ukraine…”

Thanks for the clarification.
NO PANIC

Thank you T2015 & Kat Kan for correcting the “Hungarian convoy” story.
