Inconsolable Chinese football fans, who, in spite of not having a national team to root for, are going to the World Cup in Russia by the tens of thousands. The traditional Chinese drums say, China Power.
No team, no national glory, no nothing, yet for this year’s Football World Cup tournament in Russia, 100,000 Chinese still traveled there for the love of the game, their admiration of the host country and friendship with its people (http://en.people.cn/n3/2018/0427/c90000-9454552.html).
Not having a team in the competition did not seem to make Chinese companies hesitate to spend big bucks on World Cup sponsorship either, shelling out over $800 million for the rights to use the logo (http://en.people.cn/n3/2018/0613/c90000-9471113.html), twice as much as all US companies combined. Hisense (home electronics), Dalian Wanda (movie theaters, amusement parks and real estate), Vivo (smartphones) and Mengniu (milk and dairy products) are among the Chinese companies that can sponsor the World Cup. For months, Vivo saturated Shenzhen’s metro stations with the below ad. The name “Russia” was the second biggest word in its ad, after Vivo.
This Vivo smartphone ad saturated Shenzhen’s metro stations for months.
Unlike Westerners, who have been completely brainwashed to fear and loathe all things Slavic, the Chinese love Russians and their country (http://chinarising.puntopress.com/2018/06/17/russians-are-much-admired-and-putin-is-loved-by-the-chinese-for-good-reasons-china-rising-radio-sinoland-180618/).
Western Big Lie propaganda has been working furiously to discourage people to go to Russia for the World Cup, with CIA-concocted scare stories about non-existent neo-Nazi Russian hooligans, when they are actually in Ukraine and Western Europe, the birthplaces of international fascism (https://www.theguardian.com/news/2018/apr/24/russia-neo-nazi-football-hooligans-world-cup). English Nazis were filmed singing fascist songs and saluting Hitler in Volgograd, one of the host cities for the World Cup. This is a town that sacrificed 2,000,000 lives to defeat Nazism during World War II, (https://www.rt.com/sport/430370-english-fans-nazi-video-volgograd/). Maybe that was the truth that they were trying to insult.
Euranglolanders have no shame, since they are organically racist (http://chinarising.puntopress.com/2018/01/06/slavs-and-the-yellow-peril-are-niggers-brutes-and-beasts-in-the-eyes-of-western-empire-china-rising-radio-sinoland/). It’s not Russian racism. That is Eurangloland’s specialty, as can be seen with a British lord doctoring a photo to denigrate the Senegalese national team (https://www.rt.com/sport/430319-alan-sugar-senegal-tweet-reaction/).
Unfortunately, crooks exist around the world and big sports venues are infamous for fake ticket scams. Over 3,500 bogus tickets were sold to Chinese fans going to the World Cup, these by a criminal outfit in Russia (http://www.globaltimes.cn/content/1107305.shtml). Ouch!
In any case, with the world’s largest middle class and adding some 10,000 citizens a day to this economic group (http://chinarising.puntopress.com/2017/05/19/the-china-trilogy/), China’s clout on the world stage in the arena of consumer goods, marketing and advertising will only continue to grow. China already has a top ten global brand in ICBC, the world’s biggest (people-state owned) bank and other Sino-brands are moving up the charts (http://brandirectory.com/league_tables/table/global-500-2017). This list will look radically different in ten years, as Made in China goes global.
Can you imagine what would have happened if China had made it into the World Cup this year? Instead of 100,000 forlorn coulda-woulda-shoulda fans in Russia, it might have been a million. The Chinese love football, even sporting it as décor in metro cars (http://chinarising.puntopress.com/2017/10/15/brics-themed-metro-line-demonstrates-deft-soft-power-china-rising-radio-sinoland-171015/). Xi Jinping is a huge fan and having the president in your camp never hurts (http://www.scmp.com/news/china/policies-politics/article/1871444/chinas-soccer-mad-president-xi-jinpings-passion).
Future Chinese World Cup players, coming up through the country’s ambitious pyramid development system, adopted from Europe. Notice there are four girls and four boys. Baba Beijing likes its chances to win the Women’s World Cup too and is investing heavily in girls’ developmental football.
Since Xi was elected president in 2013, Baba Beijing has adopted Europe’s children-junior-senior-college-semipro and professional pyramid model of development, spending billions around the country on facilities, schools, camps and programs. China’s short-term goal is to rightfully gain hosting a future FIFA World Cup. Longer term, the aim is to win the it. It’s going to take a generation of building and working, but one thing you should never do is sell the Chinese short. With Baba Beijing’s centrally planned communist-socialist economic system and rolling five-year plans, this country and its hard-working citizens can move mountains in a hurry (http://chinarising.puntopress.com/2017/10/25/how-can-western-capitalism-beat-this-thats-the-rub-it-cant-china-rising-radio-sinoland-171022/).
Every World Cup match is played live and replayed many times in China. Above is the studio set for CCTV Sports, China’s national television station. All the cultural symbols are there: the World Cup mascot, a football, matryoshka dolls and Red Square. Thousands of these souvenirs will be coming back to China in suitcases.
Postscript: This article says each Chinese football fan visiting Russia will spend an average of ¥30,000 each, or about €/$4,500. That comes to a total of ¥3 billion, or about €/$450 million – almost a half a billion dollars pumped into the Russian GDP. Four thousand Chinese are arriving in Russia every day, on 20 direct flights. In an international pole, 87% of the Chinese want to watch the World Cup, more than Russians, Brazilians, Italians and US citizens.
The love affair between the peoples of Russia and China continues to flourish (http://en.people.cn/n3/2018/0621/c90000-9473680.html).
China always looks ahead and plans for the long term.
I also understand 70,000 Americans are at the World Cup . They didn’t qualify but fans still travelled. America politicians are even going from the Senate.
However fans from the UK have not traveled in great numbers due to the relentless negative propaganda about Russia – the Skripals “poisoning”. Etc . And months of TV programmes about hooligans.
The World Cup has started and is going well – who are the big losers – the UK are missing out on contacts with Russia informally and politically.
James2
Yes, that is true. I am wondering if England reached the finals, if anybody from the British political establishment would come to watch, as Putin would certainly be present. Interesting thought.
Q: Why is it that the Anglos are still being given the totally unjustified preferential treatment with four provincial football teams participating in the qualifications??
Would the UK turn out to be unbeatable otherwise, perchance? Hardly. British football has a grossly inflated reputation while its achievements internationally are dwarfed by Germany and Brazil (with many more beating Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland hands down).
Dear Jeff Brown,
If 100,000 Chinese visit Russia to watch the FIFA Cup, then how many of them will see a good business opportunity and stay a while longer? Furthermore I would disagree with your average Chinese spending. A better estimate of the Chinese spending would be over $500,000; a beautiful side affect of being the host.
I have read elsewhere that many of the European fans have drunk many of the host cities dry of beer. Not a grand effort, as I can remember the old ‘5th Battalion’ drinking the Yass Hotel dry back in the early 1960’s, but this is also another money spinner for Russia. And I wonder as to how many of these ‘Soccer Hooligans’ would find an attractive little lass to take home with them? Used correctly, there will now be counter arguments against the European MSM.
And most of the European visitors will have a good time, enjoy themselves and experience the natural human experience of meeting another race. The opposite story has just emerged from Canada where a young female visitor was out jogging on a beach and inadverantly crossed over the US border as there was no sign visible to warn her and she was thus arrested and held for ten days before being returned to Canada.
However Jeff, you have made some statements that are basically ‘generalisations’ and thus incorrect. Your “Unlike Westerners, who have been completely brainwashed to fear and loathe all things Slavic” is one such generalisation and when you realise the number of Westerners who visit the Saker Site then there must be a large number of westerners not so affected by the MSM or our Totalitarian Trotskyite bureaucratic governments, and realise that it is these people and not the Slavs who are our enemy.
And then you make this lurid error; “Euranglolanders have no shame, since they are organically racist.” Most. no, not even most, but all of the football fans have gone to Russia to watch football. Any idiot that was ‘racist’ wouldn’t have bothered, and that’s a fact!!!
And what on earth is racism? Why don’t you go and read the Saker’s interview on Michael Hoffman to clarify that ridiculous adverb.
But in the area of the Chinese, the message is better. “the world’s largest middle class and adding some 10,000 citizens a day to this economic group.” Of course Australia’s ‘Middle-Class’ has been decimated ever since the Australian Prime Minister, Bob Hawke declared that, “Australian workers are too expensive so we’ll have to send our manufacturing overseas to China”! That was back in 1985 and the Aussie lifestyle has nosedived ever since.
Another good assessment of the Chinese is: “The Chinese love football”. The Chinese don’t just love football, they love most sports, even ‘Aussie Rules’ and are keen to demonstrate their sporting prowess, but better yet, they do not play sports like the US, where they have to will at all costs, including cheating. There are not many ‘Lance Armstrongs’ in China.
Very amusing. On the Internet even English football fans are stating that fewer fans came to Russia than would normally have come because of scare tactics applied by the Western press. However, those 100.000 Chinese made up the difference, spending 450 million dollars, with some euros included. Nice. On top of that you have to add the money spent by those 70.000 Americans.
I have been following the World Cup very closely on the Internet, analyzing videos, statements made by football fans who came to Russia as well as those who did not come, as well as comments of readers in the comments sections. It would appear that Russia gained tremendously from the World Cup as far as prestige goes, with people discovering Russian cities and meeting the Russian people. Everybody is surprised by what they saw and the welcome they received. They are expressing astonishment with such things as the Moscow and St.Petersburg metro lines, whose magnificence astonished them. Many are stating that Russian tourism will experience a boom, as it should. Well done Russia.
Finally Russia gets some good press. Score a PR victory for the Bear!
“It’s not Russian racism. That is Eurangloland’s specialty, as can be seen with a British lord doctoring a photo to denigrate the Senegalese national team (https://www.rt.com/sport/430319-alan-sugar-senegal-tweet-reaction/).”
It is (((Alan Sugar))).
Don’t shoot me, I am just a messenger from the only 5 eyes country with legal brothels nationwide, a sex tourism destination for East and South Asia. Two words, white prostitutes. I don’t know how cheap the women are in Russia in 2018, but they certainly are cheap here. The economy is in ruins, no one has had a raise since 2007 – which means real wages have been cut in half. Many of the women selling their services have day jobs, it is that bad. Sometimes native men use the brothels, mainly not, most can’t afford it anymore.
Hello Joy; It sounds like you Kiwis could benefit from getting rid of your 30 year commitment to austerity and giving all social initiative to the corporate class. Same as Mexico it seems. What can you say about the mentality of a country where the labor government under David Lange introduced the neoliberal agenda of giving everything to the rich? Answer – New Zealand needs to free itself from a subservient colonial mentality of willing surrender to the English empire. The issue of prostitution is another matter altogether. How the English system does love to deify the superiority of the rich! I feel for you Joy but I don’t feel like returning to NZ yet.
Prostitution comes shockingly easy to English women.
I remember when I moved to London (from Serbia) in early 1989. It was still free to study (I think until 1997) – but student grants were cut a little bit.
Suddenly all the news, BBC etc were full of stories about how young English women were FORCED into prostitution because they now don’t have enough money to study (a BS argument because I used to get a grant a bit later when it was even less money and I could easily live from it).
I remember how perplexed I was to see ‘prostitution as the only way to survive’ English attitude.
There I was an immigrant, it took me about a week to find a job as a chef – and I made enough money to live reasonably well.
Yet all the local girls suddenly had no other option but to be prostitutes.
Just one of many very strange things I have learned about English women during my 13 years there
