Changing subject: every time Russia opposes the Empire in a more sensitive matter, the number of terrorist attacks in North Caucasus soar. In the last weeks attacks are happening almost daily, the last time there were so many was after the South Ossetian war in 2008 until the “reset of relations” with the US in 2010. I am pretty sure these attacks are being ordered as a retaliation for Russia’ stance on the Syrian war. This last attack particularly saddens me: http://rt.com/news/dagestan-muslim-cleric-killed-756/ Only in Russian I found an article stating openly that the reason for the murder of Sheikh Afandi was because of his opposition to Wahhabism: http://ria.ru/inquest/20120828/732402810.html
Given Carlo’s point above, perhaps it should be Russian policy to seek the overthrow of the Saudi royal family. Perhaps not openly stated, but maybe the should start a covert program of destabilization against KSA. Surley there are some former KGB officers who remember how to do these things? At the very least in retaliation for each incident that occurs in Russia.
One could exhaust himself fighting the tentacles. Start aiming for the head of the Wahabi octopus. Hit it hard enough and soon all the limbs will go limp.
Lysander, the idea is not bad. I am sure they could find a strong ally for this enterprise in Iran. Considering also that Iran has never, even in the hardest time for Russia in the 1990’s, supported the Wahhabi guerrilla in the Caucasus, it surely would be a great idea. One way to do this is to support Shia movements in Saudi Arabia. If Wikipedia is right, 15% of the population in that country is Shia – a minority, yes, but not so small.
@everybody: I apologize to all of you for my silence. One of my kids did something stupid and dealing with this took all my energy. I will however reply to your very interesting comments in a day or so, I promise. And thanks for posting here during my absence!

@anonymous: Have you heard anything more about Bandar
Nope. I did see this story on Voltairenet and that is it. I don’t know what else to make of this. If you hear anything please let me know.
