Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras plans to hold a referendum on the bailout program for the debt-ridden country proposed by the international creditors, local Skai TV channel reported Friday.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said that a referendum on whether to accept an accord for a new bailout with its creditors will be held on July 5.
Greeks will be asked to give a simple “yes” or “no” vote on whether they will accept tax rises and pension cuts amounting to 8 billion Euros that the EU, ECB, and IMF have set as a condition for desperately needed bailouts to keep the debt-stricken country afloat.
The government easily passed the 151-vote threshold needed to authorise the referendum, with deputies from the far-right Golden Dawn voting with the government and pro-European opposition parties New Democracy, Pasok and To Potami and the KKE Communist party voting against.
Holy fascist Hasenpfeffer, Batman! It looks like they are going to do it.
All they’ll need is a sovereign Drachma for internal use, some fiscal and tax reform, and some barter deals for foreign trade until they get back on their feet.
I’m gonna love watching the fallout in the US and EU, and seeing Merlel’s toes curl up like the Wicked Witch of the East when the house fell on her.

I call on you to decide –- with sovereignty and dignity as Greek history demands — whether we should accept the extortionate ultimatum that calls for strict and humiliating austerity without end, and without the prospect of ever standing on our own two feet, socially and financially. We should respond to authoritarianism and harsh austerity with democracy–calmly and decisively.”
Seems real. The question now is what will the MSM in Greece do to get people to vote Yes to the deal. I am assuming the MSM in Greece is just as controlled as the rest of Europe, in which case they will be going all out to sway the population via blatant *fear mongering*. Dont be surprise if it works, it has worked very well so far since the last World Financial Crisis in 2007-2008.
Imagine putting all retirees the fear that their pensions will be gone if they vote no, or there will be no jobs for their children, and so on and so forth…
Alan, Syriza won election w 36% vote. 75% of Greeks agree w way they are handling negotiations. 49% say they’d vote for them if election held today.
Only an ostrich cd possibly think they could EVER pay off a quarter TRILLION in debt.
So it’s just possible they will vote against accepting the terms, go for a grexit & declare the debt odious– just like their parliamentary investigating committee declared it.
If something so dramatic shd happen, then I think EU can legally seize their gold.
A country w/o its own currency & management of it is not sovereign, so can’t protect its citizens’ interests, so going back to the drachma is still the best option, especially if they repudiate the debt as odious. What do you think?
Funny how the opposition SD party is calling the referendum anti-democratic. The government is urging the people to vote No, and I think it very proper to put this to a vote.
Outlaw Historian, when Popanoupolus (or whateve his name is) wanted to referendum on the last loan, EU removed him from power & put in a technocrat (banker) in his place.
I’m not sure that’s exactly what happened. Anybody know?
thanks South Front…our dear ‘voice’ has a cold I think…or the sound maybe was too slow. Interesting news about that horrible cop…was that woman’s body on the stretcher his victim ? Covered completely in blood ?

Yeah, sure looks like it. He must be part of a faction not quite as anti-Iranian as the Zionists want. Sometines I wonder if there IS another faction besides the Zionist one.
Very bad news– looks like Putin’s Turkstream route is dead: No contract w Turkey, only a MOU w Greece, Macedonia says only if EU permits, Serbia is willing but under attack. Gazprom has reopened negotiations w Ukraine for after 2019. Turkey’s under some attack for having signed on to the Russian plan, even tho they’re attacking Syria for the Empire. There’s just no stability in the Balkans. One round to the Empire.
Scott was first to break the news on this site, and I just didn’t believe it.
Armenia: According to RT today 6/27/15 : Pending the audition of the state Electric Co., the Armenian government will pay the difference in the price hikes. Someone is thinking–crowds are celebrating and a core group of provocateurs is seething and regrouping, planning their next move. Looks like this so-called color revolution is all washed out for now.
Yeah, but now the crowd organizers are saying they need more time to decide whether to accept the governments offer. The government caved in and they are still not “sure” if they’ll accept that.Hmmm,it appears the government may need to take the velvet glove off after all.
I’m not sure what to make of this. Is it real, and what it sounds like? Is this where the rubber meets the road? What if the Greeks vote no?

It seems to be real and is all over msm.Good decision, imho, and the best of luck.
The only thing is the Greek parliament will meet on Saturday and may stop it.
The Greek Constitution provides for two kinds of referendums:
a referendum concerning a “passed law”
a referendum concerning a matter of “national interest”.
Nonetheless, these constitutional provisions have not yet been enacted into law and therefore there is no procedure for a referendum to be held.

The Greek parliament has approved the referendum.
The government easily passed the 151-vote threshold needed to authorise the referendum, with deputies from the far-right Golden Dawn voting with the government and pro-European opposition parties New Democracy, Pasok and To Potami and the KKE Communist party voting against.

Haha,I wish the referendum question would be phrased using those words.

Happy birthday to Alexander Zakharchenko.
Yes, Happy Birthday, between his loved ones.
I wish him a total recovery from his leg injury and not be suffering a lot of pain.
A big hug, Aleksandr!

It is an editorial emphasis for satire or POV.
