With so much shelling, bombarding, artillery and GRAD barrages going on, Southfront can save itself a lot of time, and only mention the 2 villages that weren’t attacked along the front line during the past 24 hours.
That comment would normally be followed by a roaring laughter, but, at the moment, there’s nothing funny about what’s going on in the Donbass…
What an ugly situation…
There is no way the people of Novorossia can tolerate constant shelling for much longer. Not advocating more violence, but I wonder if/when Novorossian military will launch a counter-attack. If they capture Western mercenaries, will the Novorossian military apply the Geneva conventions? (Legally they are not obliged to do so.)
Those people have far more patience than I could even think of having.I would have sent attack squads deep into Banderastan long ago.Armed with as much explosives as I could hide away (or get them through raids behind the lines). There would not be a target that the Ukrainians could consider safe at anytime.Railroads, electric plants, gas lines, military factories, government and military buildings, junta, volunteer, and military figures, would all be targets of opportunity.Give those areas a taste of Donbass. The Azov had a big meeting/conference in Kharkov the other day. With a lot of their “big wigs” and supporters there.A well placed team could have sent a good message there. The need to exact retribution grows daily. And as I say their patience astounds me.
yes, it’s like a fighter with legs tied. So sad.
I have to agree. It’s a nice thing to show restraint and hope for political solutions, but while they wait for a solution, they appear to be missing a lot of military opportunities.
The positive outcome is that this has made the Kiev invaders confident and perhaps, when all-out military action will begin, such guerrilla and sabotage tactics will be even more effective. That applies to “patriotic sleeper cells” left in the west too… Here patiently waiting for the decisive battle, which might never come, as Ukraine slowly crumbles apart.
That assumes those groups exist at all.I’m not convinced they do.I hope I’m totally wrong about that. But I haven’t seen any proof, only “hearsay” about them (that doesn’t include Kharkov Oblast, where their are a few such groups. But the key there is “a few”).The fascist terror squads are very active. With random arrests, and total intimidation. It will take a giant junta defeat, and the regime to start crumbling, to get people to rise.Once they do,its over for the fascists. But the key is “getting them to rise”.I have a friend in a neighboring Oblast to Donetsk. He hates the junta, and nationalists. He says the majority of people in their hearts support Donbass in his Oblast. But they are terrified to oppose the junta. He said the ones with the courage to fight go to Donbass and join the NAF.He says people hope for liberation by the NAF but won’t rise until/unless they see it coming.
It is possible that Russia has a deal with the US. You don’t blow things up inside the rebel zones and we won’t blow things up in the rest of the Ukraine. This would be sensible for Russia as they want to minimize the destruction in the Ukraine, particularly as they will likely have to fix a lot of it down the road.
Then, from what we see the Ukrainians are breaking that deal as well.I think we put too much faith in “Russian deals” about this or that. From what I hear from Russians in Donbass,it isn’t easy for the Russians to control the Donbass leadership. That it takes all the Russians influence to do that. That people in Donbass are tired off the endless shelling and being told by Russia to not respond. And that if the junta does attack again, and is beaten, the Russians may not be able to force Donbass into another “Minsk” agreement.Which to many there looks like it should be called “Munich 2”,instead of “Minsk 2”.
Well, it seems like Minsk 3 (or something like that) may be in the cards. This time Poland wants to be a party of it:

http://sputniknews.com/europe/20150816/1025798771.html
Poland “wants” to be.But in Russia (and especially in Donetsk) that is a “no go” to even start with.So its very doubtful they will be involved in it.
Both the soldiers, who are under “order” and will react when it is time, and the civilian population
show such a restrain…..courage, discipline!
They are my heroes.

Here is a video showing “democracy” in today’s Ukraine. Here are a group of thugs going around to “opposition bloc” information tents run by mostly other women. They destroy the tents, burn the leaflets, and terrorize the women. The police stand by and do absolutely nothing to help stop that.If nothing else, not the shelling in Donbass, the nazi parades, etc, shows the banal evil of the fascists this simple video shows in.This is why there can not be peace in Ukraine until the fascists are defeated, killed,or imprisoned.I’m sick and tired of hearing how they can be negotiated with.It just isn’t possible, and we need to understand that. Before groups like that show up in our towns too.

This is very telling.
To make it acceptable to skeptical ignoranti here in the US, we need some information; do we know where this took place? Is there anything in the perpetrators’ comments or dress that shows that they are nazis? Or if not, then exactly who they are? If someone who speaks the language can come up with some details like this it will help a lot in spreading the truth.
Thanks for posting this.
I can’t help on some of that. But from the clothing, and police uniforms its certainly Ukraine.Probably Kiev, but not sure (a city though). The new local elections are coming up.And that is why the tents with political information are set up all over Bandera occupied Ukraine. Those thugs are targeting the opposition bloc party because they are the ones most against the junta.By doing the things shown in the video they are making a mockery of any “democracy” in Ukraine.Trying to assure the junta parties will win the elections. And then will claim to the the West “see, we have democracy here and our parties fairly won”.Western sheep not seeing video’s like this will then believe them. That is the plan for the “new European Values Ukraine”.And people in the West are falling for it.
It’s enough to see their haircut to see they’re neo-nazis. They’re not even skinheads, as that’s not popular anymore. Full blown nazi wannabes. There are ukrainian flags everywhere. The political parties are the currently existing ukrainian ones, they speak ukrainian no doubt there.
The women at some point are saying “it’s our choice!” while the neo-nazi and even apparently passerbys tell them that their choice of party is wrong, the politicians they chose are clearly lying, that separatists will never reach there, etc. They even blame novorussians for the war, which is just sad. The rest can be seen. The actions speak louder than anything they say. Especially at the very end.
in view of the increasing crime rates:
“By the end of this year, the number of police officers will in compliance with European standards: 23 personnel of 10 thousand population. To date, the same number of population accounts for about 36 policemen.
By reducing fall 3.5 thousand of 10 thousand law enforcement officers who are now working in Kharkiv region.
This is not the first reduction in the “reforms” of the Interior Ministry. Since the beginning of 2015 from the Research Affairs of Ukraine in Kharkiv region has fired 600 employees. Eliminated duplicative management functions, such as management to combat organized crime. Abolished veterinary police and reduced the transport police.
It is possible that due to this “optimization” of law enforcement agencies Kiev wants to train personnel for the so-called UTA, because otherwise all the laid-off will join the ranks of the unemployed, who number only according to official figures has already exceeded half a million, but according to experts from recruitment agencies, real the number of unemployed in Ukraine is 5 times higher.”

might mean more temptation or be part of a bigger plan by Poro to introduce martial law if things “develop” or put in place the neo nazi battalions perhaps.Or gonna conscript them….join up or lose your pension we know who you are…….
If the supposed ceasefire comes on on 1Sept….should/how can Rus and Donbass ensure somehow that if 1 shell is fired by AFU after this date that it finally can be declared that ukr has absolutely no intention of fulfilling Minsk….that Rus forces could go in as peacekeepers? …….I believe AFN has the nerve and discipline to ceasefire from their own side….its all got to come to a decisive point surely….either is Minsk or not ….to prepare for winter….and if it fails then to absolutely be able to knock back ukr and make them militarily impotent and show the rest of the world what a sham ukr is….maybe Rus to hold presidency of UN security council is a real opportunity to say it as it is…..and fight back over eg ukr’s demands to get Rus thrown out of security council…..time to bring it all to a head with USA NATO and expose their dodgy dealings one and for all.
There is a ceasefire now. What are you talking about?

The guys voice in the video sounds like the guy Simon from Vice News interviewed a few months ago.. I think his nickname was Dallas, he is from Texas.
Russell ‘Texas’ Bentley, has a radio show here on Thursday & Sunday, can listen to podcasts from previous: http://dninews.com/content/free-donbass-show-podcast
Paul Craig Roberts has a piece arguing that Minsk seems to have failed for Russia and been a mistake:

Not a particularly upbeat take on matters.
Well on FR:
http://fortruss.blogspot.co.uk/2015/08/breaking-hollande-and-merkel-back.html
A different view. Merk and Holl are backing Putin ceasefire plan.
“Hollande and Merkel have made public statements in support of Putin’s proposal’s today to return to the Minsk II Agreement process on September 1st, next Tuesday. The European commitment to salvage Minsk II was reported by Reuters, AP, Tass, and other international news agencies around the world.
These statements follow an emergency telephone conference held today, Saturday August 29th, by the three leaders.”……..
Good luck Porky – EU isn’t backing you…..read the link – some interesting points raised.
We shall see. An alternative reading of this is that Putin was finally going to do something. The rebel areas were talking of holding elections that were not under Ukrainian control/influence, and there seemed to be so much pressure to end the shelling that it might have meant a series of attacks on UAF artillery positions. There is also talk of giving Russian passports to residents in the war zone.
In any case, the problems are the same as before. The West sees Minsk in a different light from the Kremlin. So it is like debating the Bible or Koran. The West is trying to give Russia ways to back down. Merkel just a day or so ago talked about the usefulness of Russia working with the West on Syria, which sounds like more attempts to get Russia to sell out Assad/Syria in exchange for less pressure on the Ukraine. All of these things have the feeling of good cop/bad cop. They are all designed to put Russia in jail, it is just a question of how fast and for how long. It is true, of course, that Merkel and Hollande are likely quite afraid of a big war, but, again, the answer from their point of view is to stop Russia from doing anything. If mere words can do that, great.
When Russia has the initiative or is threatening to do something, people like Merkel and Hollande become great talkers. Once Russia loses the initiative or gives up something concrete, they go back to being the cops they actually are.
There was an article on Fort Russ about that.Whether there is something good from Merlel and Hollande’s words ,or just another trick. The answer is,”just another trick”.They will lie,and lie,and lie,to try to fool Russia into believing they can be trusted. But its all fake. And Russia needs to remember the old saying “Fool me once, shame on you.Fool me twice, shame on me”.If Russia let’s them fool them again they need to “forget it and roll over and enjoy it” (that comes from another more gutter saying ).
Bob,
You may be referring to the link Veritas posted. I respect Joaquin’s analysis a lot, but perhaps do not have as much optimism regarding the thesis of three Europes. One that is Anglo-American; one that wants an EU empire; and one that is Eurasian. My problem with this thesis is that one could want a Eurasian approach, but still see the need for smashing Russia. In other words, where are Russia’s friends? Or are there any? People like those in the Party of Regions don’t count, as we can see what kind of friends they are. Merkel has talked about Putin’s Iberia to Siberia, but it sounds fake to me. Just a part of trying to trick and smash Russia. They do want a Eurasian league, but with maximum German power, which means minimal Russian power. If Merkel had wanted a fair move towards a Eurasian approach, this whole mess in the Ukraine wouldn’t have happened. The Ukraine would have been what Putin wanted, which is a bridge between the two unions.
And another limitation of the three versions of Europe is that the actual power is more in the financial oligarchy, as opposed to physical locations or whether a country is in a certain bloc. It is even conceivable that the oligarchs wanted to use the EU as a temporary measure till they got a TTIP to merge most of Europe with North America. It is no joke about how Warburg testified in front of the US Congress back in the 1950’s that a world government was coming, and the only issue was whether it would be by consent or conquest. These banksters mean business. Of course, Joaquin is aware of these issues and discusses them in his interviews, but I still see the general problem that Russia has trillions of dollars’ worth of natural resources and a powerful military, and both of these are obstacles for both the Western oligarchy and a strong EU. So the desire for convergence with the West begs the question of the practicality of it. It seems to me that Russia has a much better balance with China, but opinions may vary and the Kremlin has access to a hundred times as much important info as we do.
I don’t disagree with anything in your post.My “rule of thumb” is (and rarely proved wrong with it BTW),if a Western leader’s “lips are moving” they are lying.I won’t trust the EU leaders if they swore on a stack of Bibles. They are only saying that because Russia is ruining their plans. If they were winning they won’t be pretending they want to be friends with Russia.
On RT there is a telling article:

And OSCE says: “””””The main stumbling block in the talks is not the lack of technical coordination, but rather an absence of trust on both sides, the deputy head of the OSCE’s special monitoring mission in the region, Alexander Hug, told journalists on Saturday. He added that the locals were so “frustrated” they could be easily manipulated and have, at times, shown aggression towards OSCE members.”””””
What a rotten stinky Hypocrisy :(
Somebody above commented about the notion that a ceasefire is in the works, by pointing out that there has been a ceasefire for some time already.
You must understand that we are having a ceasefire within the ceasefire, both of them within the frame of previous ceasefires, etc. A sort of Russian doll collection of ceasefires, nicely displayed on the shop window.
Or maybe you could picture this series of vaudeville acts more accurately by imagining a boxing match where the referees (from the staid Western World of Values) repeatedly declare an indefinite timeout during which the fighters are to reamain sitting in their respective corner and solve their differences through negotiating messengers, doves, pigeons etc.. While the referees are addressing the public with the happy news, one of the fighters keeps walking behind the referees, sometimes right in front of them, thumbing his nose at them, going to the other corner and hitting his opponent repetedely. But the referees, satisfied with the sound of their own voice, fail to see him and keep talking and smiling to the public. The abused opponent sitting on his stool protests meekly, waves his menacing index finger at his abuser, and even makes little movements feigning his intention to get up and reply in kind, but never does). His extremely diplomatic representatives indicate over and over that they are “deeply worried”. Their voices cant be heard within the general din. Meantime the rowdy opponent keeps cavorting all over the ring, thumbing his nose at everyone and generally alternates between hitting the opponent and horsing around. Parts of the public snicker, others shake their heads, others cheer, others boo loudly…
In fact it would be funny if it werent also so tragic.
The charade will go on for some time before the fighters embrace and kiss each other. Or before the abused fithter falls off the ring. Or something.
Russia has a history of offering up its people as “cannon fodder”. If as it is said that the Kremlin is having to really make heads roll to keep the DPR from a major counter offensive, the people of DPR may start calling for a leadership for the DPR people themselves as against protecting Russia’s interests. Just one swift cauldron would be enough, but this time parade the NATO & ACADEMI soldiers instead of quietly letting them go back. Why they let them go without parading them is beyond rational thought. Also there were the mini nuke attacks that all went quiet too. As Maxwell Smart often said,”Something’s rotten in Denmark.” There’s been a mass censorship of “in battle” videos uploaded t to liveleak too, very much opposite to Syria and Iraq. There is some agenda going that even Saker doesn’t know about, or does he. But let us not forget the the tremendous loss of friendly life the Vietnamese allowed in order to deliver one the most humiliating defeats in modern history. Or is that China is going to take down the USA with it’s currency devaluation and that will be the end of them? The USA, at home, is totally destroyed and it is only a matter of time before hostilities break out there. Such hostilities are already on the uptake but under reported as has been the case in Europe for several years, and now the refugee explosion. NATO is going to be so busy controlling itself quite soon that Ukraine will be just a useless distraction.
