Last night – the night before election day – a US soldier phoned into a talk radio station and said, roughly, “there are soldiers right this minute battling the Taliban for your right to vote. So I urge listeners to exercise tomorrow the right we are fighting for.”
@anonymous: there are soldiers right this minute battling the Taliban for your right to vote.
I don’t recall the Taliban objecting to elections in the USA and even if they did, this is hardly the reason why US soldiers have invaded Afghanistan and are fighting to suppress the local resistance to that invasion.
How any adult American can seriously believe that all these imperial wars have anything to do with “our freedoms” or “democracy” is simply beyond me.
6. Legalize drugs..the war on drugs is just a fake sad history..the prohibition only makes it more available to people and only free will is necessary here: either you choose to use or not use just like you choose to drink or not drink alcohol.
@everybody: ok, I will bite the bait, and add some general ideas: (in no particular order)
1) abolish the Fed, create a National Bank. 2) nationalize all national banks, keep credit union. 3) abolish DoD, get all troops home, keep the national guard. 4) call a Constitutional Convention and re-write the whole damn thing. 5) universal healthcare. 6) universal unemployment benefits. 7) legalization of all drugs (including those currently Rx) 8) reinstatement of all the civil rights abolished since Clinton. 9) disband the CIA and 90% of the other intelligence agencies. 10) rewrite the tax code and, yes, tax the rich :-P 11) rebuilt the national infrastructure destroyed since Reagan 12) abandon NAFTA 13) rewrite labor codes and foster the development of powerful unions 14) completely reform the current education system 15) completely reform the current penal system 16) ban all national media cartels and replace them by local and publicly owned media 17) invest in public transportation on all levels (Fed, State, local) 18) abolish the Department of Homeland Security 19) completely reorganize FEMA 20) dump Israel and prosecute Zionist lobbyist as foreign influence agents
Ok, I stop here. That was just what came to my mind and it is hardly a coherent political program. Frankly, all this is impossible without not only regime change, but more deeply, society and culture change. As long as the USA is corrupted by the capitalist ideology and culture, it will remain a developed, but fundamentally uncivilized country. As Gilad Atzmon recently declared in an interview, what we really need is *ETHICS-CENTERED POLITICS*. So far, we are very very very veeeeery far from it. Greed, materialism, imperialism, exploitation, amorality in all matters, violence, etc. are all deeply seated in the social and cultural fabric of our society and no meaningful change will be possible as long as that does not change.
This is off the subject but I thought it is off interest. Saudi is reviving a plan to build a massive Mosque and education center in Kabul, of course to counter Iranian influence there and once again stoke a Sunni/Shia divide there:
@Mari: this is not AT ALL off-topic, in fact I find this absolutely amazing. I am planning one, or several, articles in what I see are some major and long-term trends in the Islamic world and Russia (the two topics are becoming more and more linked). I will get to it as soon as I can.
Again would would be your policy on the issues both foreign and domestic that wuold differ from Obama and Romney?

I am NOT voting.

@VINEYARDSAKER:
Just give me 5 policy points that you would implement that neither candidate is advocating?
@jack,
“Just give me 5 policy points that you would implement that neither candidate is advocating?”
1) Make us safer by reducing the Attack Department
(Defense Dept to the sleepy)
by 90%
2) Grand Jury
Eliminate Congress and replace it with a body akin
to our Grand Jury system.
3) Blockade and embargo the Zionist Entity
4) Create an army of lawyers to prosecute Wall Street criminals
5) Give the American People MORE Rights not fewer and fewer
Saker and Jack,
I would ask a 6 point:
6. Legalize drugs..the war on drugs is just a fake sad history..the prohibition only makes it more available to people and only free will is necessary here: either you choose to use or not use just like you choose to drink or not drink alcohol.
