Saker, the US is issuing one of those catagorical denials and wester press isn’t giving it much coverage. Do you think the Russians and Chinese will believe it and will it change their calculus? Is this really a big blow to the US?
@Lysander: Do you think the Russians and Chinese will believe it and will it change their calculus?
Not at all. The Russians are fully aware of the US role in the wars in Chechnia and Georgia (not to mention Croatia, Bosnia and Kosovo) and the Chinese know that the US is behind the violence in Xinjiang and, probably, Tibet. I am also sure that both Russia and China are fully aware of US terrorist operations inside Iran. So for them this should make no difference at all.
Is this really a big blow to the US?
Not at all. The USA has been involved in international terrorism since at least 1945 and everybody knows it. Yet, nobody dares to challenge the USA on that. No, while this arrest is good news for Iran and those who oppose international terrorism, this will not make any difference at all. Sad, but true.
The guy looks young. No more than 40. Have you read about his personal motivations for doing what he did and allying himself with our Israeli-controlled government? What gives here? No matter what his grudge he has against the Mullahs why would he betray his people to work with evil?
@Anonymous: I sincerely believe that it is impossible to judge to motivation of another person. Heck – most of us are not really aware of why WE act in the way we do and why we make the choices we make. How could we possibly understand the choices of others? I think that this is why Christ taught that we should not judge others: we are simply incompetent and unable to correctly ascertain why anyone acts. I am not trying to be cute here or avoid your question. I am honestly saying that I could not presume to know the answer.
