Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has asked the Judiciary chief to conduct a through investigation into the death of Neda Aqa-Soltan, an Iranian woman who was shot dead in Tehran’s post-vote protests.
In a letter to Iran’s Judiciary chief Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi-Shahroudi on Monday, Ahmadinejad called for a serious probe into the “suspicious” death of Neda and recognizing elements behind her killing.
“Neda Aqa-Soltan was shot dead in one of Tehran’s streets on June 20 by unknown elements in a completely suspicious way,” said the president.
“Amid vast propaganda by foreign media and many other evidence about the heartfelt event, it seems definite that opponents of the Iranian nation interfere (in Iran’s internal affairs) for their political misuse,” he added.
Neda, 26, became a symbol of post-election street rallies in Iran and an international icon in recent days after graphic videos of her death grabbed the attention of world media outlets.
Her death first became suspicious after revelations that she was killed by a small caliber pistol — a weapon that is not used by Iranian security forces.
——-
Note: I suppose now we have heard it all. First, we were told that Neda was killed by a “Basij thug” sniper “hiding on a rooftop”. Then that she was killed by a “Basij thug” “sniper on a motorbike“. And now we are told that she died from a small caliber pistol (no doubt fired by a “Basij thug”). Except that a small caliber pistol cannot be fired accurately at ranges over 50 meters max. If this really was a pistol shot, then the entire “Basij thug” thing is collapsing and what we are left with it a typical false flag operation. More details about the rather strange circumstances of her death can be found here.
Does anyone have more details about this?
@alex: yep, I am also trying to get details about this one. all these events are full of very strange things which nobody bothers to research. one the inital hysterical reaction has been achieved, nobody wants to come out and admit “I have been duped like a 3 year old, again” – so silence is all that we hear.
But I will try to keep an eye on this.
please let me know if you find out anything about the “fake Basij” and the “Basij thug sniper on the roof who is on a motorbike who shoots with a small caliber handgun” thing.
Thanks for everything Alex!
Thank you too.
If I find something I’ll surely leave a comment in the blog.
Neda was shot by a sniper:
1- While people are protesting the government with rage, no one in the middle of people can draw a weapon to shoot someone else in a close distance before the eyes of taunted people.( Lest he would be ripped apart by the people there)
2- The person close to Neda who was also helping to stop Neda’s hemorrhage (The man in white shirt sitting in the right side of Neda) made it clear in his interview to BBC-Persian that she was shot from a long distance and people there were trying to fathom out the cause of the big sound they’d heard prior to Neda’s falling down. P.s. The mentioned man is a medical physician studying in England.
3- I have no practical military knowledge but I presume that if one is shot by a bullet from a close distance, no matter how small the caliber is, for sure could have experienced a gap rather than a small hole on one’s body.
4- Iranian Police would never let the international community to be informed of Police officers’ opening fire on people and it’s why they blame the so called armed-culprits to have killed Neda.
5- Paramilitary Basij forces are allowed to carry weapon despite Iran’s Basij commander, Hossein Taeb’s statements that Basij is not allowed to carry weapons. According to IRGC(Iranian Revolution Guards Corps) constitution Basij and IRGC member are required to go through military training and be ready at anytime for military action.( Articles: 10, 11 and part 1 of Article 36). To this corollary, Basij and IRGC members are tried in a military court ( Articles 43 and 46 from the same constitution).
6- Videos shot by people show the Basij forces shooting at people from the roof of mosques and their camps.
7- Snipers are commonly used in such incidents. Per se the revolts which took place in Tabriz (A city in northern Iran) in 2006 in the wake of the published cartoons by a governmental newspaper humiliating Azerbaijani community. The demonstration turned into bloodshed as a result of snipers preying on demonstrators. Those merciless killers were shooting at people from the top of mosques. It is no surprise that why in the recent incidents in Tehran people have set a mosque on fire.
8- Iranian government will never detain or execute any Basij or IRCG member. The Basij and IRGC members enjoy full backing of the government since they are the only ones carrying out the brutal policies of the government. They kill, rape and torture for sake of Islam, extort money and run away with murder. E.g. they shot Said Hajjarian, the former president Khatami’s chief security adviser in front of the parliament building. The assailants were later caught to be used as puppets in farce trial and were happily smirking at cameras in the court. They were freed for lack of substantiated evidences.
9- Read this report to learn more about the freedom of Basij → http://www.rferl.org/content/What_Will_Happen_To_Those_Arrested_In_Iran_I_Can_Tell_You/1762681.html
10- All rigged up scenarios and crocodile tears of the government is to evade the blame and profess its innocence in order to win the hearts of its supporters and disappointed people. Now the government is thirsty for legitimacy.
@Solidus: thanks for the VERY interesting comment, I really appreciate it! Let me comment about what you say point by point:
1. I have to disagree. A small caliber pistol is an ideal weapon to shoot in a crowd as it is easily concealable since it has very little recoil and is therefore small. The ideal shooting distance would be about 20 meters.
2. I read the report of the doctor. The problem is that from the “sniper hiding on the roof” the story then changed to “Basij on motorbike. Please check my story about this here:
http://vineyardsaker.blogspot.com/2009/06/sniper-or-biker.html
3. That all depends on the caliber, speed, type of bullet, etc. Basically, you can make a bullet do whatever you need if you are willing to get (or make) the correct bullet.
4. I understand that. But while it is public knowledge that Iranian cops are armed, I have heard from may sources that Basij are not.
5. Having the obligation to undergo military training does not mean that a force is issued with firearms for riot control. Take the French CRS, for example, or the Spanish Guardia Civil. These are basically military units, yet they are not issued guns, much so less sniper weapons, for crowd control and riot supression.
6. I have not seen the videos you are referring to. Could you please provide the links and explain how the people seen in the video have been identified as Basij?
7. Same request as #6
8. Again, I would be interested in your sources.
9. I know RFE/RL very well. If they announced that 2+2=4 I would have the biggest doubts about it. These were CIA created propanda outlets specifically tasked with subverting the countries of the Warsaw Treaty Organization.
10. That might well be true. However, we have yet to establish that.
I would add that knowing the amount of cameras in any crowd, it would be folly for the government to deply snipers and tell them to shoot at those who are not even demonstrating (Neda was only watching, not participating in the riots).
Is cui bono not an important thing to consider here?
