Our grandchildren’s history books will reference these two international meetings, Bretton Woods and Ufa, as post-World War II geopolitical milestones, and transformative benchmarks in the world order. This of course, unless Western/Israeli colonialism does not push humanity to the brink, with a last desperate attempt to save its fascist empire, with World War III.
At the Mount Washington Hotel in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, 730 delegates from all 44 Western Allied countries met for three weeks in the summer of 1944, July 1st-22nd. China and the USSR were represented, but in physical presence only. World War II was still raging. It would be another ten months before the Soviet Red Army finally marched into Berlin, crushing the Nazi Wehrmacht, on May 9th, 1945. The Chinese Red Army would do the same to the fascist Japanese Imperial Army, while driving out all the Western colonial and KMT compradors, on September 3rd, 1945.
Between these two fraternal communist countries, they lost no fewer than 40,000,000 of their fellow citizens, in the fight to defeat worldwide fascism. The United Kingdom and the United States each lost around 400,000, or a total of 800,000. This is one-fiftieth, or only 2% of Russia’s and China’s sacrifices.
But no matter. Bretton Woods was decidedly an Angloland affair, with Western colonialism’s two global rentiers at the head of the table, the UK and the US. The other 42 delegates were simply warm bodies for ceremony and vacuous photo ops. The UK wanted to maintain the global suzerainty of the Western banking system (read London), including keeping the Nazi collaborating Bank of International Settlements (BIS) intact. It and its fascist roots are of course still in business today. The Americans wanted unfettered trade, knowing that it was king of the manufacturing mountain, now that Europe’s and Japan’s Industrial Revolution juggernauts had been decimated during the war. Of course, Uncle Sam got what it wanted. Cheap, imported primary inputs came in, paid in greenbacks, and expensive, finished products went out, only Benjamin Franklins accepted for payment, thank you, all transacted through Western banks. The US dollar was installed as the world currency for trade and the IMF and International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) were created, the latter which morphed into the American controlled World Bank.
Israel was soon forced on the Muslim World. It is the West’s Islam hating, evil spawn, a grotesque Quasimodo helping empire to commit terrorism, false flags and genocide, not only in the Middle East, but across the planet. Israel is an imperial wet dream, a Myrmidon for hire.
As we now know, this mythical, whitewashed world order was and is a continuation of Western colonialism, using “legal” institutions, “laws”, finance, banks, debt and tariffs, all with the help of pliant, whore states, many of which are militarily occupied. To this day, these adapted weapons of economic tyranny continue to suck assets and natural resources out of the developing world, as the West has been doing since 1492, when Christopher Columbus stumbled onto North America. The fact that this “great European explorer” was directly responsible for murdering 500,000 Native Americans and that he has a US holiday in his “honor”, should tell us all there is to know about the Orwellian legend of Eurmerican progress.1
Yes, the West gave us Mozart and penicillin. But for the world’s Moral Majority, the 85% of humanity who are not from white skinned, Catholic-Protestant-Jewish Eurangloland, it has always been a Faustian sacrifice of unacceptable proportions. Add up the New World and Old World totals of excess deaths caused by Western empire and a figure of 2,000,000,000 – that’s “B” for billion – stares you in the face, https://sites.google.com/site/censorshipbythebbc/bbc-censors-indian , none of which will ever be shown behind the Great Western Firewall.
Such is the Bretton Woods 1%-99% world order in which all of humanity currently suffers, immeasurably. How much suffering? This graph spells out the Bretton Woods world view,
This is what Western empire has wrought. The overwhelming majority of humanity’s richest people are Westerners, those in the top fifth (quintile or 20%). Take this richest 20%, again break it into ascending quintiles, and it will recreate the same topsided inequality. Take this richer top 20% and again break it down into quintiles, and you will get the same graph. You can continue this process several times and you will keep getting the same lopsided graph each time. You have finally started reaching the Bretton Woods 1%, a few hundred families who own the vast majority of the world’s wealth. They are overwhelmingly from Eurangloland. In fact, Bretton Woods has created a world where only 85 families are as wealthy as the world’s poorest 3,000,000,000 – 85 versus three billion with a “B” http://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2014/01/the-worlds-85-richest-people-are-as-wealthy-as-the-poorest-3-billion/283206/ . Time for a change, a revolutionary change.

In Ufa, Russia, July 6th -10th, 2015, another international summit was held, called SCO-BRICS. SCO stands for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which is mainly strategic in nature. It was created by China. BRICS stands for Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, and its mission is more economic and financial. Both are known to be anti-Western. Between these two groups, fifteen heads of state attended the Ufa Summit. The list of participating leaders is noteworthy:
Afghanistan
Belarus
Brazil
China
India
Iran
Kazakhstan
Kyrgyzstan
Mongolia
Pakistan
Russia
South Africa
Tajikistan
Turkmenistan
Uzbekistan
As well, scores of high level representatives from three other anti-Western coalitions were in attendance: the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU=EEU), Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). All three of these are backed by Russia and together, basically recreate the geographical footprint of the Soviet Union, leaving out Eastern Europe, Georgia and the Western half of Ukraine.
In all, 10,000 people from these countries came to participate in history being made. This is graphically presented in the map below, which consists of all members, as well as all the countries that are applying for membership in at least one of these five groups, as well as the anti-Western, Latin American alliance, ALBA (Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America),
So many natural resources to extract and billions of Dreaded Others to exploit and exterminate, by the West’s ongoing, 500 year-old, colonial empire. I prefer to say it’s the Map Called Hope. (Image by www.44days.net )
This world map says it all. I don’t think anybody who spent July, 1944 in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire could have ever imagined seeing it. From the viewpoint of the imperial West, it was not supposed to turn out this way. These are the countries dreaming of a different, more cooperative, less exploitive 21st century. In order for that to happen, Planet Earth has to be much, much more equitable. Can these countries and their people create a more egalitarian world for all of humanity? Can they dramatically flatten out the wealth graph above? At the end of the 21st century, this will largely mark their success or failure, especially in a world with declining natural resources, fresh water and increasing global temperatures.
These ambitious countries are organized in six regional and global cooperative groups: ALBA, BRICS, CIS, CSTO, EAEU and SCO. Western empire has been and is generating, turbulent geopolitical currents against them, which will ineluctably draw these six groups closer. I am giving them a new collective name: the Anti-West.
Other countries, such as Argentina and Eritrea, will undoubtedly be pulled into their spheres, as they are already politically and economically anti-Western. Poor Greece should probably also be included, if it can wrench its throat from under the West’s suffocating boot heels. Then there is Africa, the Great Continent. It is still being largely kept in chaos, exploitation and servitude by Eurangloland. Having lived and worked there for ten years, my heart and hopes go out to them.
In Ufa, the two paramount leaders of these groups, Presidents Vladimir Putin of Russia and Xi Jinping of China, were putting in 20 hour days, as I’m sure many other heads of state and aides-de-camp were too. At times, Xi and Putin looked tired, stiff and a little awkward. There seemed to be some careful walking on eggshells, as the meetings progressed. As much as we wish, they are not supermen. Watching videos of various meetings, it is apparent that they and all the other leaders could sense the historical magnitude of what they were doing. The pressure must have been tremendous. All the attendees knew just what the Ufa Summit stood for – full bore hatred of Western empire, colonialism, fascism and war. The Anti-West’s Ufa Summit was truly a global call of revolution to bring down the Bretton Woods dictatorship. A real, new world order.
Given the immense, history changing pressure Xi and Putin had on their shoulders at the Ufa Summit, we can forgive them for looking, at times, a little awkward and tired. They are not supermen. (Image by www.chinanewstv.com )
Xi and Putin were in good company. In many videos and photos, Xi had behind him, to his left and right, Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his National Security Advisor, Yang Jiechi, two of the best geopolitical minds on the world scene. They would just sit there stone-still, passively listening, like two wound up steel traps, ready for Western kill. Smooth-as-silk, uber-diplomat, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had Putin’s back, listening, taking notes and reading briefs. I have to assume that Presidents Rousseff and Zuma (Brazil and South Africa) and Prime Minister Modi (India) brought with them equally as impressive team members, as well as all the other countries represented. Let’s hope so. Western empire is gunning for every one of their heads and their countries’ treasures, human and natural.
At Ufa, there were too many side meetings to count. The most important one, long term, was President Putin politely pulling Prime Ministers Narendra Modi of India and Nawaz Sharif of Pakistan by the collars, to meet face to face. As explained in a previous Saker-44 Days Radio Sinoland article, http://10.16.86.131/saker-interview-with-jeff-j-brown/ , the nightmare border dispute concocted by the British Raj, on his way out of imperial India, between these two countries, as well as with China, in the Jammu-Kashmir-Aksai Chin regions, is the roadblock for full integration of the Asian continent. This evil nexus is like a colonial cancer, festering in the heart of Pan-Asian hopes and dreams. It simply has to be solved.
All three countries have significant nationalist sentiment and strong militaries. Three religions are facing off: Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism. All three are armed with nuclear warheads. All have fought border wars. All three are pissing away billions, keeping untold divisions of soldiers and materiel facing off against each other. With that kind of firepower just hundreds of meters away from each other, pot shots and misunderstandings are nonstop headaches, and fertile ground for senseless border skirmishes. It’s colonially inspired insanity and it’s like a bad Kurt Vonnegut or Joseph Heller storyline, but nonfiction.
Pakistan, India and China need a level headed, fair and informed interlocutor to solve this 20th century, imperial, Gordian scar, and Russia is really the only country that can fill this role.
So, it has started. With the Russians playing Ufa’s over-the-shoulder matchmaker, Modi and Sharif came away with a five point communiqué of initiatives and Modi accepted an invitation to visit Pakistan next year. Earlier this year, Modi and Xi laid a solid foundation for border reconciliation. China and Pakistan are on very good terms. Russia and China are fascist killing, old socialist brothers-in-arms. Russia has excellent relations with all of them. The Ufa Summit will hopefully be looked back upon as a key catalyst to reach negotiated border settlements, thus clearing the way for full trans-Asian integration.
So, President Putin, Foreign Minister Lavrov and their vastly talented back offices, have the diplomatic deal of the 21st century to pull off. Make no mistake, it is going to be hard, really, really hard. The British Raj’s diabolical ghost is smiling like a Cheshire cat. Eurangloland knows this three-way border dispute is the weak link in all of the Anti-West’s Asian aspirations. Thus, it will use its well-worn playbook full of bloody treachery: divide and conquer, bribery, propaganda, psyops, black ops, false flags and fifth column compradors – even war – to make sure they fail.
Seventy-one years after Bretton Woods, the Anti-West has the winds of its history-changing, revolutionary Ufa Summit pushing it sails toward new century horizons of hope. Here’s to wishing that Eurangloland’s vile machinations stiffen everybody’s resolve, so all of humanity, the West and the Moral Majority, can live in shared peace and prosperity, for the first time in five hundred years.
PS: while the censorship of the Ufa Summit was a complete blackout behind the Great Western Firewall, Baba Beijing (my wry name for China’s communist leadership) showed tremendous originality and good humor in educating its 1.3 billion citizens about the Ufa SCO-BRICS Summit, using an animated cartoon, which they even translated into English: http://www.greanvillepost.com/2015/07/14/dispatch-from-beijing-baba-beijing-is-king-of-kool/
PSS: the leaders of the G20 countries, who are a part of the Ufa Anti-West, announced in their concluding press conferences that they would be continuing the Ufa dialogue during the American led G20 meetings in Turkey, in November, 2015. This symbolically denounces the Bretton Woods dictatorship even further.
PSSS: read the Ufa Declaration, Ufa Action Plan, Putin’s Ufa Press Statement http://www.brics.utoronto.ca/docs/ , and savor this amazing moment in history. Search “Ufa” on YouTube, for hours of summit videos.

- US historian and professor David Stannard, wrote in American Holocaust (Oxford Press, 1992), that “over 100 million Native Americans were killed” and that “[Christopher] Columbus personally murdered half a million Natives”. You of course will never see the light of day about this truth, behind the Great Western Firewall, but these numbers were fully confirmed in another scholarly research, by Russell Thornton, entitled, American Indian Holocaust and Survival: A Population History Since 1492 (University of Oklahoma Press, 1990). Both are in print and make riveting reading.

Dear Moscow-Beijing Express readers,
My wife and I are taking a week off to travel in Xiamen. Therefore, I will not be able to respond to your comments in a timely fashion this month. Thanks for reading.
Best from China, Jeff
Have a great trip, Jeff & Ms Jeff.
Whilst it’s a good summation of the importance of Ufa, it would be far better if written in a less over-the- top style of prose. It’s not the sort of writing that you could use to convince a wavering supporter of the “Empire”.
Stephen, honestly, I don’t know your name…you’re a new commenter, but ‘trolling’ fabulous articles that the blog owner considers worth putting up here eventually don’t make it to the board.
Stephen, I encourage you to ponder several things:
1. At one time Jeff, by his own account, from the USA heartland, may have been more conservative than you or I ever were.
2. As such, by his own account, he did not “waver” from the predominantly unfortunate and predominantly (not completely! There are some folks well meaning towars the rest of humanity almost anywhere….) ignorant influences of his Oklahoma (if I recall correctly?) childhood and young adulthood roots for a good long while.
3. Given that fact, it is hope inspiring to realize the change he has undergone, and what he has done and who he has become.
4. Millions more, like you are wavering, maybe earlier in their adult lives than Jeff Brown finally did, to his credit, and your (plural) own. And then he really changed, in a BIG way. So can millions more. I encourage you to not only waver, but come out on the side of justice, and encourage others you know to support the USA redeeming itself after many sins and disgraces, and dumping Empire Unipolarity and joining the BRICS multipolarity. If you (plural) fail to make the breakthrough global thermonuclear war may be the result, with our USA in the hands of its fascist neocon abductors, and British Empire (and its Wall St adjunct) owned puppet presidents (Obomber, and the majority of the sleazeballs in the presidential primary race or considering entering the race), starting it!
3. Jeff Brown may be almost overly enjoying his liberation from those early mental shackles, which he has somewhat miraculously shed, to embark on a fascinating new life in China, and he evidently is vastly enjoying it and indeed, going a wee bit “over the top”, as you put it., but I think we can cut him some slack, don’t you? After all, he’s doing a lot more for humanity than either you or I are right now, is he not?
But I would quibble with a few things that I do think are more important to raise than his very bubbly exuberance:
1. Bretton Woods was begun by the FDR administration but the tragedy of WWII was FDR’s early death before he could deliver on his wartime promise to Winston Churchill to end colonialism (and the British Empire). Despite the subsequent disaster of Wall St stooge Harry Truman betraying FDR ‘s anti-colonialist mission, Bretton Woods was sufficiently well designed that it did facilitate a dramatic postwar recovery of the developed sector…..though the underdeveloped world was betrayed politically before WW II even ended, by TRUMAN, not FDR.
2. The SECOND major unraveling of America’s anti-colonial intent, always consciously alive in far, far too few positive leaders, routinely targeted by Empire assassination, was Nov 22, 1963 in Dallas.
3. The FINAL destruction of Bretton Woods was August 15, 1971 when Nixon announced the “temporary” (44+ year) suspension of redeeming our trading partners excess dollars in gold. I don’t think it is accurate to say that the international economic system since that time can be called “The Bretton Woods System”. I think the “Petro Dollar” or “Imperial Rip-off System” is a more accurate name for it after Aug 15, 1971. So while I understand the comparison of UFA 2015 to Bretton Woods 1944, I think the comparison, in terms of its historical importance is not strained, but in terms of ALL GOOD vs ALL EVIL it is somewhat strained.
4. Jeff, the planet has not been warming for about 17 years and when it was warming, it was neither the West nor China’s industrialization that was warming it…..
( mind and soul, I left out the rest of this paragraph, about “NAZIS”, “prostitutes” and Queen Elizabeth, in a somewhat unscientific mix….KL-moderator)
I completely agree with mind and soul. The oppressed people deserve a very rigorous analysis because as usual putting an “homeopathy” quantity of lies or inaccuracies inside a truthful body of facts get a disastrous effect.
This should be tell for the

to the moderator KL…dear KL…I would have really liked seeing our local friend ‘mind and soul’ the whole comment…I don’t understand why moderators ‘control’ the conversation…moderating should just be to keep out the trolls…not control ‘us’..
‘
Thanks, Ann. I’ll make it tighter and more scientific next time. More careful composition just takes longer than a good midnight rant. And I didn’t have much time. It’ll come up again when I’ll have the time for putting some links and tighter arguments in on “warming” and cooling and a few other things.
But just to stir the pot a little, Columbus was a Renaissance project and I would also be leery of cultural relativism run amok and lumping every European explorer with Satan. The problem with Europe in the 1500s and 1600s is that the advances of the Renaissance were hardly hegemonic in Europe itself and all kinds of horrendous Empire exploitation practices followed and attempted to devour anything positive done by decent Europeans, as the scoundrels were also doing in Europe itself!!
For a balanced and 100% anti-racial view of the matter I recommend Guns, Germs, & Steel by Jared Diamond. Much of the depopulation of native Americans, north and south, was done by Old World epidemics encountering zero immunological resistance in the New World and arriving into areas like the Mississippi Valley and the Andes and wiping out large populations several to many years before Europeans ever arrived more into the interior!! The Eurasian resistance to disease, relative to the Americas has to do with the GEOGRAPHIC advantage of Eurasia over all other continents, the head start in the Fertile Crescent and the China river valleys in agriculture and variety of grains, fruits and nuts and animal species suitable for domestication in Eurasia as compared to the Americas, Africa and Australia.
Geography explains a lot about the emergence of man from hunting and gathering to herding and agriculture thousands of years ago. Eurasians, from Portuguese to Chinese and nearly everyone in between were tremendously advantaged by a HORIZONTAL AXIS of several same latitudes extending thousands of miles east and west where trade and pre-trade migration could more easily and efficiently spread seed and cultivation and domesticated animals by easier adaptation to nearby same latitude, similar climate environments, as contrasted with the Americas, where the distance between the Atlantic and the Pacific oceans narrows down to something less than 100 miles in parts of Panama, making it essentially a VERTICAL AXIS set of two continents, traversing barriers of rapidly changing climatic conditions going north and south instead of east and west. If I had a chance to meet Jeff Brown, rather than a midnight rant, I think I’d give him a copy of that book and a World Landbridge Report (global extension of the New Silk Road Development corridors, connected via the Bering Straits tunnel first conceptualized more than a century ago). Closure of the ancient development of mankind with the 21st Century maturation of mankind, as a vision of finally overcoming all physical geographic barriers everywhere. And a few more besides the geographic ones.
I hope that’s better, KL.
Give me an address and I won’t wait til I meet Jeff, which will probably be never. I’ll send him a gift now.
Mind and Soul…actually its not policy here to delete anything by the moderators.. Censorship is not part of the job of a moderator. Trolls need to be trashed, but that’s it basically…and bad language….
That’s probably a good thing. Brevity is a virtue I (and a few others) need to get better at. .AS a group you mods are quite forbearing of verbose posts.
“Wavering supporters” of The Empire generally go to HuffPo or The Guardian. Staunch opponents of The Empire come here.
Great summary of the Ufa forums.
High hopes is not enough, as we all know looking at Donbass and Syria and Yemen in the last year.
It takes brilliant leadership and resolute actions.
Putin and Xi are brilliant leaders and they are taking resolute actions.
But the times are dangerous. The Hegemon is desperate. And at stake is “full spectrum domination” over Russia, Eurasia, China and the civilizations that are resisting the godless, inhuman depravity of Western Liberalism and Fascism.
Just because Ufa was not on TV or in the Media or on the Social Networks does not mean it was not historic. The product of the events in Ufa are like water being released from behind a gigantic damn. Powerful energy is released in a controlled manner. The dynamos are spinning. We will see the product of this enormous event in the coming months and years in many place and many ways. The Hegemon is overmatched.
USA just gave 2 billion to Pakistan, which few days later did the attack in Gurdaspur, Punjab.
3 Muslims (terrorists) planted bombs on a railway bridge, which were disarmed. Potential death toll: 250+
Then they tried to take over a bus, but the driver a real BRAMIN did not stop it. Saving 75 people
Then they fired on a police station after hi-jacking a Maruti Suzuki car. 1 killed
They were all killed after 11hour encounter, due to us wanting them alive.
4 days now, Burma raid was done in this time let’s see what is planned. ;)
Logical way to end these 3-way hostilities if for BHARATA to annex Kashmir & Pakistan. :)

The facts emerging out now clearly point to a false flag ops. Stay tuned and be surprised. I presume the chitpawan brahmins of maharashtra are wreking havoc in india now.

I like seeing comments from India. I would like to see more. It is something this site definitely needs. And from Pakistan too. And from China, …

“Can they dramatically flatten out the wealth graph above?”
What will the new group do differently that we can expect this to happen? It is not enough to be anti-western.
If the new boss is to be the same as the old boss, why bother?
A closer analysis of what the Ufa system is and what it will mean in real terms would be useful. How does it differ from the Bretton Woods system? This question is all the more relevant when we see the same type of institutions being by the new group- AIIF, New Development Bank. Are these are going to be clones of the IMF and WB? If so, why cheer?
I would like this to be more than just cheering for your football team. But i do not see it.
I realize that the “they all bad, so let us wisely stick our heads in the sand, pass a lot of noisy gas, do nothing constructive, and by clever default support the present mess” line is standard “left” gatekeeper spiel, but maybe that’s too slow and we should all just kill ourselves now and get it over with quick?
Xi and Putin are reformers not revolutionaries. They run huge organizations, not a brigade or a cellar full of ideologues with berets.
China and Russia are stakeholders in the global systems of nations. They are not building a new world order. They are changing the present world order, and the change is significant. From unipolar to multipolar. From stagnation and feudal slavery to growth and sovereignty. They offer new choices of civilizations, not the single decrepit, nihilistic and depraved Western civilization that sells baby parts and murders tens of millions for a constant price of oil and to spend trillions on weapons.
They are using familiar institutional structures because those make the reforms and changes much easier to understand and manage. But look at the intentions, the plans, the projects, and the imagination of Eurasia and the New Silk Road. These are inclusive projects. There is no hegemony possible when your have giant partners like China, Russia, India, Pakistan, Iran and alongside, BRICS and the Latin American initiatives, as well as African developments.
The wheel doesn’t need to be reinvented. The AIIB is unique in that it welcomed all comers. That is not the case with the IMF, WB and ADB. Those are all US controlled.
The Chinese plans are laid out in public. Silk Belts and Roads, Maritime Silk Road. Russia has laid out the Eurasian Economic Union, EAEU. SCO is open. Even the BRICS is attaching other countries as observers, like Argentina.
There has been nothing like these reforms to international development in history.
The basket of currencies that will diminish the dollar is a major reform. The end of the petrodollar is halfway done. China’s RMB, the Yuan is the currency for oil transactions everywhere China buys, and she buys everywhere. That changes the petrodollar as king everywhere.
The old will change, be reformed, pass on. It takes time to undo a 70 year hegemony.
I agree with you Larch it takes time to undo a 70 yr old cancer. Just a point I would like to make is between China-India there are no serious problem. These are just Hickups. They will go away. One very strong indicator is after 1962 nothing happened between these two Giants. Does it tell something? and Nothing would happen again. Pakistan would also come to its senses otherwise its protector(US) would destroy it completely. Again they could not either because the India would save them because India has that inherent character.
The Brics/SCO/CSTO would flourish and greatly so for various reasons.
Regds
Sanjay
Sanjay, I think that China’s, or Zhou En-lai’s to be precise, decision to retreat to the Line of Control after the border war in 1962 showed that China does not intend any harm to India. Why would it? The two giant, ancient, continuous civilizations are the hope of humanity, in my opinion. Together, working for human betterment, they could do anything. If set on one another by the West, it would be a gigantic catastrophe.
It is reasonable to expect that newer institutions will be better than the old ones. But better to know how this might come about.
Let us take an example.
We are familiar with the way the current practice of the IMF in dealing with a country that has problems with balancing foreign exchange, trade etc.- in shorthand, austerity.
How will the new setup deal with a similar situation?
Loans? under what conditions?
Improved balance of trade? how?
Improve its economic performance? how?
With the new institutions just be a milder version of the existing institutions or will they be fundamentally different? And if so, how will they do that?
For openers, here are two points that need be made about BRICS/SCO…
– BRICS: Though a rough analog of the IMF & World Bank, it differs in at least two important ways:
1.) each founding members ponies up the exact same amount of capital and gets exactly the same number of voting shares as the others; this ensures that no one member or clique of members can run roughshod over the others.
2.) BRICS, unlike the Bretton-Woods institutions, is not based on one reserve currency–i.e., it has ‘petro-dollar’; this is intended to prevent weird trade/currency imbalances as we have in The Empire
– SCO is a counter-terrorist and defense co-ordination agreement; unlike NATO, however, it is not a mutual defense pact. Such pacts have a very checkered history. Sometimes they encourage certain alliance members to behave recklessly, in the belief that the other members will have no choice but to back them up (see: First World War); other times, they degenerate into ‘Delian Leagues’ that are more or less dominated by the most powerful member (see: NATO).
In life, of course, nothing is guaranteed. But I do think these arrangements hold out at least a realistic promise of functioning better than ours.
Unlike the IMF the BRICS New Dev Bank’s voting structure is not designed to rovide veto ower to any one country but to the 5 founding members as a group- i.e. if all 5 agree they have a majority.
In the AIIB no one country has a veto but China has around 30 % stake so it will have a major influence.
These are definitely improvements but will not necessarily lead to the rapid economic development of the poorer members of the group. It could very easily lead to a situation where a group of richer countries benefit at the expense of poorer countries.
Time will tell how it works out. But if we look at two examples we can see that attempts to achieve even handed development we can see that it is not an easy task.
1. Soviet Union- Despite 70 years of an integrated economy the gaps in economic development between the industrialised parts and less industrialised parts was very high
2. EU- we can see the relationship between Germany and Greece being played out right now
So, how will it work out between countries that are nominally independent countries? What mechanisms will be put in place to ensure a more equitable sharing of the benefits between the powerful and less powerful parts?
If these issues are not resolved the Saker will be fighting another empire in his old age!!!!
I see no indications of any attempt to resolve them unless it is something that is not disclosed in order not to spook the opposition!
“1. Soviet Union- Despite 70 years of an integrated economy the gaps in economic development between the industrialised parts and less industrialised parts was very high.”
Somewhat, but nothing compared to the Western states. And the USSR started out with a much more limited ability to industrialize their country (while at the same time bringing social justice to it).The immense destruction across the most industrialized regions of the Union, not once but twice in the space of less than 23 years.Along with the 79 years of Western trade sanctions. The loss of 18 million citizens dead the first time. And with 27 million dead the second time would have crushed forever most states.Yet by time the USSR collapsed it was the World’s second greatest industrial power. The Soviet policy of deliberately spreading industrial concerns across the entire nation was a great policy. When the end came countries like Ukraine were light years ahead of developing states under Western control. It was the oligarchs theft, and Western economic “advise” that destroyed the industry throughout Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union.Leaving those countries empty shells of their former industrial might.Russia herself hasn’t fully recovered from that yet.But at least is working on it.
Uncle Bob, an excellent Comment. Add the effects of the Civil War and Western Intervention, too, to the destruction. Plus the enforced waste of trillions in being coerced into massive military expenditure to guard against the most aggressive force for Evil in history, the USA. The USSR repaired the material damage of WW2, the greatest such destruction in all history, in five years, while the USA was consolidating its blood-sucking economic hegemony.
And whereas the USA operated, and still does, a global Empire of vampirish exploitation and extraction, where the vast bulk of the population in its own ‘backyard’, Latin America, were kept in poverty and squalor and terrorised by US trained and installed death-squad tyrannies, the USSR actually subsidised the lives of those in its satellites who enjoyed the usual full employment, free education, health, cheap housing and high cultural life of the USSR. After these countries were ‘liberated ‘to Free Market capitalism, living standards crashed, sex tourism and paedophile predators arrived and the common wealth was pillaged in ‘privatisations’, but a few chosen compradores grew rich, a true triumph of really existing ‘Western Moral Values’.
Because without a single reserve fiat, it’s not possible to have that kind of wealth disparity.
Most of the elite wealth is in paper, even if they own islands etc. As their civilization degrades, they lose the ability to enjoy these things.
That’s why they understand they have to fight to keep west order alive.
“Because without a single reserve fiat, it’s not possible to have that kind of wealth disparity.”
But if the new setup is going to transfer this privilege from one country to a handful of countries it will be only a marginal improvement.
A major difference seems to be that governments will have control over corporations rather than corporations controlling governments.
I haven’t seen any good articles on this, but true of Russia and China and I think the same for most of the nations at Ufa.
“A major difference seems to be that governments will have control over corporations rather than corporations controlling governments.”
So far the corporations from Ufa countries do not seem to have behaved in the same rapacious manner as have multinationals from the West. But is this due to their character or because of a lack of opportunity and circumstance?
Remains to be seen how they will behave when their profits are threatened or prospective lucrative opportunities are thwarted.
Jiri I think that corporations will always become what they have become in US and West because profit is their mandate….
“What will the new group do differently that we can expect this to happen?”
Ya da ya da ya da. Now where Have I heard/seen this before? Oh, yeah, we see these counterproductive, deflating, undermining sentiments expressed often here, in connection with the new BRICS etc. developments—and by the same poster, Jiri, if I am not mistaken.
Actual message: Forget about this. It ain’t gonna happen. Don’t make a fool of yourself by thinking that any positive change is possible and that these leaders are not as craven as the current lot in the West and might actually have serious intentions to improve the world.
This tune is getting old an boring and, frankly, not even worth devoting serious energy to responding to. Give it at rest, Jiri!!
Katherine
Thank you, Katherine.
Katherine…yes, I remember Jirl as a troll from before but have not been reading these comments…thanks for heads up
you have to give as a time to considerate …..
BRICS is not anti west. It just wants a peaceful reform of the current western dominated world order.
Jeff, I would love to buy your book…is there a hard copy as well ? By the way, fantastic article….wonderful !!!
Dear Jeff,
Thank you for another good article that sums up the living hell most of the world has been suffering for the last 500 years with a particular emphasis on the accelaration from B.W. to today.
I also noted there was a great lack of smiles during Ufa and that is uderstandable as this is a very serious step against a malignant, cancerous world order driven by a few “families” and their bought up members who do their bidding.
Hopefully more and more people in the “West” are slowly waking up to this despite the heavy endless propoganda day in day out by their MSM vassels. The utter Russophobic vitriol is endless – every day there is another international organisation or body to be attacked or villified to try and destroy the image of Russia – it is non stop esp. in the financial UK hub and the trading US hub. The bully US really controls the UN – as seen by the MH17 vote. That is one body that needs to be moved out of the “West” or disbanded and replaced with a new body which represents the rest of the world.
Slowly but surely I pray and hope the Ufa summit does succeed for the sake of humanity.
Rgds,
Veritas
Veritas, Phyllis Bennis wrote a good book, ‘Calling the Shots’, published in 1996, that shows just how the USA controls the UN. The situation is worse today. A thug knows only one way to act.
Interesting article.
However, there is something that bugs me. If Ufa were as significant as Jeff claims it to be, why is Brazil surrendering to the neoliberal credo…
Hopefully, Dilma would return to more progressive stance that it taking in this her second tenure as president. South America need a strong Brazil that stand against the bad policies of the West.

Brazil has many tons of dirty laundry it must clean if it’s to escape the clutches of El Diablo Del Norte, which is true of every nation South of the Outlaw Empire despite the progress made to date. One Chavez wasn’t nearly enough–several dozen are required, and the Empire murders rising stars.
Along with Jeff, I encourage others to take the time to read the Ufa Declaration, as it’s the representative historical document and much can be learned from it.
As for turning the champagne glass upsidedown, given current realities present in Nature, the task will be close to impossible. I see an overall decline in natural wealth as the climate worsens and depletion of resources continuing unabated. Even if no further wealth were to flow to the .01%, the disparity will continue for centuries. The only way to change that is to take it away and redistribute–I can here the blood curdling screams of Communist already.
The Ufa Declaration says the goal of its signers is to uplift the condition of their populace through sustainable development maximized through equitable changes in the global system while ridding the planet of the scourge of Extremism–I would include Neoconservatism & Neoliberalism since they are essentially euphemisms for Fascism and its inherent Militarism. Very Tall Tasks to be sure. As I’ve mentioned and Jeff echoes, peaceful unification of mainland Asia is top priority–with South-Central and West Asia as very tough nuts to solve given the wars being waged by the Outlaw Empire in both regions. Afghanistan will need all its neighbors help–and patience–in becoming peaceful, whole, and productive. Syria and Iraq need to ask Iran, China and Russia to join with them in crushing Daesh, while arranging a territory for the Kurdish Nation, thus modifying Sykes-Picot. Only then will it be possible to deal with the problem of Palestine.
Power doesn’t cede its position willingly or peacefully, although in some ways it’s slowly degrading itself. Prevailing in this contest will require dozens of Putins and Xis spread out over the rest of the century, plus grit, drive, geniousness, determination, patience, and humility from their populace. And it will likely require a revolution within the Metropole and its vassals to lessen the amount of blood spilt. I’m certain of Paul Kennedy’s axiom about the Fall of Great Powers, but this will be the downfall of the first Empire to almost achieve total planetary dominance and will thus take awhile. Will its masters get jealous and blow it all up if they can’t have it all to play with? I don’t know, but I’d like an opportunity to ask one of those 85.
Regarding “China and Russia to join with them in crushing Daesh, while arranging a territory for the Kurdish Nation, thus modifying Sykes-Picot,” very interesting long article in the current (I think) London Review of Books, by Hugh Roberts, “What will happen to Syria?” After a detailed rundown of recent history in Syria (pages long) Roberts finally comes to a summary prognosis tha tincludes discussion of DIS documents that indicate possible Washington support of IS back in 2012. Then comes the interesting allusion to Sykes-Picot comes up—namely, that IS seems to be headed for restoring, de facto, what Sykes-Picot originally foresaw. Here is a link, there is a paywall but sometimes the LRB articles are free for a certain length of time. It seems currently to be accessible for free.

.
That is a very detailed important article. He lays the groundwork and details the players better than most I’ve ever seen.Thank you for posting it.I agree with at least 90% of his conclusions. But I think the answer to his idea of the West changing course is,no,they won’t.They care nothing for the deaths and destruction they cause, unless it actually hits them at home. And then only because of safety for themselves (and election reasons),do they start to care.

Katherine, the destruction of Iraq and Syria by Daash is the Oded Yinon Zionist Plan. Israel has recruited Saudi Arabia, long its secret ally and ‘cousin’, Turkey, under the megalomaniac Erdogan, the true Daash ‘Caliph’, sundry minor thugs like Qatar and Jordan, its puppet hyper-power the USA, and a death-squad army of thousands of brutish psychopaths and moral imbeciles, to do the dirty work. The dead are merely mitzvot for Yahweh’s delectation.
What a great article. I think it fairly sums up the importance of Ufa and its consequent turning away from a western-centric view of the world.
It remains to be seen in what way the imperial U.S. will respond.
We’ll see…
I would like to suggest that the primary instrument of power for ‘The Empire’ has been the near total control of information. The financial system on the surface is a level playing field, however by allowing insiders access to tightly controlled information ‘The Empire’ can stack the chips where it likes. (no different than using marked cards in a casino – you don’t need to win all the time, just shift the odds and let the numbers dance)
Information control extends well beyond a ‘free press’. Patents, intellectual property rights in general are a threat to peace and equality. Control of an idea determines access, access determines opportunity, opportunity is all that matters when discussing equality.
The new system proposed is trying to unseat the existing ‘Empire’ and break the cycle of uni-polar dominance. In the short term this is possible. In the long term this requires the outright elimination of the existence of the ‘insider class’, which is only possible with fully open, unrestricted information access for all (from state level actors down to individual peasants). Until such a time, the odds will stay tilted in favor of the house, it matters not whose name is on the door.
