A recent Al Mayadeen TV presentation illustrating the major infrastructural projects that China is proposing to build in Lebanon.
Whether these projects actually reach fruition or not hinges upon a greater consensus within the Lebanese political establishment.
However, the deteriorating socio-economic situation in the country is reducing the credibility of pro-American parties who have long argued Lebanon’s prosperity is dependent upon the benevolence of Washington, Europe, and the Arab Gulf states.

And Russia would be providing security no doubt. S-400 umbrella and naval forces from Syria’s Tartus naval port.
If China can get this project going, the Levant can be rescued from the abyss of Israeli and US destructive schemes for the last 70 years.
This presentation is typical of what impact the BRI can have across Eurasia, Africa and Latin America.
Of course, the US cannot abide with such modernization, poverty ending, and uplifting of billions of humans.
It is determined to block, stop, corrupt, disrupt and destroy the BRI everywhere.
It won’t join. It can’t compete. It must destroy. This is what the USA has become in the 21st Century.
It’s sickness is now consuming its own development, as we see its society vandalized, burned and pulled apart.
You’re joking, yes, Russia provide air cover for China’s BRI…………..I’ll have whatever is in the coffee you are drinking. If Russia with an integrated air cover defence system can’t protect Syria from the Apartheid State why in God’s name would they be able to protect some poorly made steel ribbons running through the Lebenese desert?
The Apartheid State was given it’s walking orders, no Chinese development ever, or else…………so now China suddenly finds little Lebenon on the map…………..if you think China can willy nilly build whatever it wants anywhere on the planet…………………until the US is put down as a global bully………..no one can do anything without US approval. Canada can’t even sell it’s tar to China without US approval, same for Mexico, so much for forigen policy.
Cheers, M
“It is determined to {attempt to } block, stop, corrupt, disrupt and destroy the BRI everywhere.” facilitating further opportunities of lateral challenge/transcendence.
“The United States of America” (not to be confused with/restricted to the “political geographical area presently self-described as {The United States of America } ” are lands of opportunity.
Yes, Larchmonter, the US has simply become a spoiler of others’ efforts.
Unfortunately Lebanon’s political structure is notoriously corrupt and there are plenty of sellouts and US lackeys who will not hesitate to sabotage any potential deals with China, even though it would obviously be of benefit to the country and to the people.
These are the same lackeys calling for the dissolution of Hezbollah within their own country, even though Hezbollah is the only thing keeping Lebanon from being another compliant slave to Israeli and US interests.
You misunderstand. China isn’t doing this as an act of benevolence for Lebanon; it is doing this to ensure safe transit for its goods from the rail line to the Mediterranean Sea and thence to Europe and North Africa.
If US/Israel gets in the way, China and Russia will stop them. The petty attacks the ITS (Israeli Temporary State) makes upon Syrian targets do not impact the foreign investment, but if they did, China and Russia would stop them.
” If US/Israel gets in the way, China and Russia will stop them. ”
Whats stopping Russia and China right now ? The US is getting ” in their way ” on a daily basis.
I don’t believe the Chinese are stupid enough to entrust the corrupt Lebanese political class with such an ambitious and expensive project.
For the past 30 years any aid or investment money coming from abroad (for infrastructure, health, historical conservation etc…) has been completely and systematically siphoned into private offshore banks by the ruling Lebanese families. They might as well sign a $12b deal with the Neapolitan Camorra.
Unless there is a drastic change in the political structure of Lebanon and its corrupt institutions, a separation of powers and secularisation of society and politics, i wouldn’t touch Lebanon with a ten foot poll.
Sadly much of the Lebanese elites and population are not ready for that change, they’re stuck in their old tribal and primitive mentalities and refuse to evolve.
+ I’ve lived and worked there so i don’t need a middle class blue haired student or armchair crusader from Hamburg, London or New York lecturing me on the realities of that region or the nature of its people. It’s sad but that’s unfortunately how it is.
This is Lebanon’s onl hope, she should grab at this opportunity with both hands. The Lebanese are smat people, but their leadership is even more corrupt, bought off, and partisan than ours.
