“Scott, thought you’d like the Red Banner style flag on the SAA GRAD launcher (looks like either a WW2 tribute to the Katyushas or maybe it’s a red Syrian regimental flag I haven’t seen before). I thought the Palmyra assault was the Desert Hawks brigade as the Tiger Forces are up north advancing east of Aleppo into Daesh territory to cut the road from Raqqa to Deir ezzor in a pincer move with the SDF Kurds.”
Communism symbols mean different things for different people.
After some consideration, I decided to translate the following Cat Motya’s post, because he writes exactly the way I feel about these issues. He started his life in the USSR and having lived through the Soviet reality has the right to judge it in any way he wants and that while one can disagree with Cat Motya’s views, one cannot deny him the right to speak his mind. According to the latest poll, only one-third of Russians believe that life in the USSR after the war was historically the best. One-third of the population believes that the current situation is the best, and one third of people think that life at the beginning of the 20th century was the best ever for Russia. So, the majority of people in Russia share the anti communism sentiments with Cat Motya. After you read the post, you will understand why the Soviet Communists have only themselves to blame for being so disliked by modern Russians.
The following is Cat Motya’s post on communists and socialism.
Go and get off me you lovers of communism, and you fans of pharaoh Lenin and his pyramid, and you lovers of red pentagrams. You are all beyond hope, you are incurably ill, so go to hell and quit blocking sunshine. I am going to explain to you the very last time my position.
In 20th century, the communists organized pillaging and looting of our nation at an unimaginable scale. It wasn’t enough that Trotsky and company slaughtered millions in a gigantic bloodbath. It wasn’t enough that they humiliated and experimented on people, treated adults and children like lab animals, that they uprooted and relocated tens of millions, who forever lost their relatives and their own lives, because they got someone else lives. On top of it, those monsters had always looted. Starting with the Bronstein-Lenin gang that transferred to the USA tons of gold, precious paintings and other works of art, precious Christian items, and it ended with the gang of comrades Gorbachev-Gaidar-Yeltsin. Stalin was the only one who didn’t steal and pillaged, but this fact doesn’t improve a general picture. That’s why they hate him even now, because he jailed a group of Zionists, but far from everyone.
I wrote before about furniture and cars. Just answer one question for me, why the communists didn’t build more plants and manufactures? Why didn’t they built ten VAZ auto making plants and ten GAZ plants? Why didn’t communists build twenty furniture factories instead of one per town?
Seriously, think about this. The domestic market was gigantic. Why didn’t they build five meat processing plants per every large city instead of one? One they slapped together one clothe factory making horrible ugly clothes, when they could build ten that would make great clothes. Why didn’t they make good quality shoes? Why didn’t they sell construction materials to people? Why didn’t they give free land to people to build their houses? Who owned the land in the USSR? Was it people who owned the land? Did communists own the land? Did they know that the land will become their? Was this the reason why they didn’t let people to build their houses on it?
So, why didn’t communists build? Don’t you think that they didn’t build because they didn’t want you to spend your money you worked for? You grandmothers, mothers and fathers, they all were saving money in a bank. Right? If people were allowed to buy cars and furniture, they would spend their money. Furniture gets old, cars get old, after awhile they lose their values. But money held value, and it was very easy to take all the savings from people. Hahaha…. They took all our money! That’s why they didn’t build more plants and manufactures. They had been stealing our money in cosmic proportion. Only because people were so brainwashed, they didn’t recognize the unprecedented scale of theft.
The communists were buying dollars with our hard earned rubles and were giving billions away as “loans” to many African and Latin American and Asian countries, to everyone. There were no plans to repay those money. The communists knew that. In some Congo or another, with our money they set up multiple foundations administrated by mice who made themselves huge gesheft with our money for their children and also for their tribe. The main aim of this pillaging that started in the 80s was to dismantle the state of the USSR. It was the communists who destroyed the USSR, do you even understand it? According to the scenario, at some point the USSR had to run out of money, nation was to be brought to the point of a complete dependency on the West, that’s why they conducted this daily cosmic-size looting.
People never got to own land, right? Right. Because the entire mass of land was owned by communists. They were only ones, we didn’t have anyone else. That’s why you never got to own land. because they planned to take it from under you and to sell it. And you continue to worship communists!
It’s surrealism, there is no other word for this. You just have been robbed, humiliated, destroyed, they blew up our country, and you love those who did all these to you?
The USA has lasted that long because they robbed and pillaged you, and those who robbed you were COMMUNISTS. Right at this moment there is a group of the billionaires-murderers hiding in Israel, they stole from you, and it was the communists who helped them to come to power. They sold out OUR NATION AND OUR STATE, they all are criminals!
As for the social justice…. THERE HAVE NEVER BEEN ANY SOCIAL JUSTICE IN THE USSR.
There is no justice and fairness without God.
Lenin stole from Jesus His teaching, and upended it. He said that communism means “from everyone by their ability and to everyone according to their labor. ”
Where do you see a social justice here?
It wasn’t a fair and just society, it’s was a society of maniacs. This is a FAKE justice.
Why? Because, if disabled people couldn’t work, they died in poverty. If a mother didn’t work, she was getting zilch. She had to go and work on an assembly line to assemble those engines, or whatever. As for people’s abilities, communists evaluated those abilities at will, depending on how much a person chopped wood, or laid bricks. Only one small detail, I have never seen a well-to-do lumberjack or a construction worker. There were only two ways to live (comparatively) well, to work in Siberia or Arctic, or to become a party apparatchik.
Only now, I repeat that only now, you have to hear me that only right NOW, no one else but PUTIN first time in the history of Russia, I am not afraid to say this, he has done as our Savior taught us – the mothers receive “maternal capital” per their needs! They don’t work, because they are mothers! Never, never, never had we had anything like that!
Do you even realize that our state is becoming more fair and just than the Soviet?
The family with many children receive land for free, and not in temporary use to plant potatoes, like during the communists’ rule. First time ever, disabled people get a decent amount of compensation, chance for rehabilitation and work, physical therapy, a chance for self-realization, Olympic training and other arts.
When did you see this in the Soviet Union? People were getting pennies for bread and kefir, to stay barely alive.
You’re screaming that you want back to the Soviet Union. If a village gets burned down by wildfire, the state rebuilds for free houses of people without insurance. Where else do you see this? If you don’t have a house insurance, you’re directed to go and sleep under a bridge.
Here, we watched how the long haul truck drivers demonstrated against road tolls on heavy trucks. In the soviet time, they would take any payments and keep quiet, knowing that if they try to protest, they would be jailed. Now, we see these long haul drivers with red flags on their trucks, and the communists declared the “solidarity” with them.
Those morons truck drivers had never seen so much reimbursement in the Soviet time, and here they are with red pentagram on a red rag screaming their heads off for “social justice.” Had you ever seen the social justice in the USSR?
Go to….
The social justice can only come from God, and it’s called “live by the truth, and truth always wins.”
We will take back everything they have stolen from us. We will return what’s ours, they will pay us back.
—————-
As you have probably understood, there was nothing good, with one exception… You, PEOPLE WERE VERY GOOD and believed in the best. Believed! And they defecated on us, those communists. You were very good! Communists used your quest for LIGHT. They destroyed everything you believed in. When will you finally get this?
———-
Today, many people think that there are only two economic systems, socialism and capitalism. This is far from truth. It’s possible to create a socially just system combined with the regulated capitalism. It’s possible, and it’s not even that difficult. We need some laws, mostly international laws, regulating large capital, and the rest is domestic issues. We are testing Belorussia and Kazakhstan, and others, we will take the best they developed and will make those pieces into a whole system, because we need to put back together our huge country in the borders of the USSR, but without the Baltic territories. It means that we must pay attention, in case new Gaidars want to appear and to destroy everything again.

You might remember that in 2013 the last stage of the rip-off of a millennium took place. I am talking about the Gore-Chernomyrdin Deal.
The communists were giving the country away to the USA, as a “victor.” It didn’t matter that Russia had never participated in the Cold war with the West, it was the USSR. It didn’t matter that Russians never had a chance to fight the Cold war, due to complete void of any mechanisms in society that would allow people to make the difference.
Russian nation was declared “defeated” and made to pay a “reparation.” The 500 tons of uranium for virtually free was a part of reparation. Estimated in the terms of GDP, Russia had paid 20 years of its GDP in 18 years. Compare this to Germany, that was made to pay 2 years of its GDP in 70 years.
The first shipment of the low enriched uranium (LEU) as part of the Megatons to Megawatts project took place in 1995. The last shipment of the uranium was in 2013. Right before the US initiated the color revolution and invasion of Ukraine.
500 metric tons of the low enriched uranium would be enough to provide eclectic power to the entire population the USSR for seven years. It was enough to provide 50% of electricity consumed by the US starting with 2000.
Russia has received $13 billion for this “deal.” Market value of 500 tons of LEU over this time amounts to $8 trillion.
It took 40 years, starting with the Soviet time, and hundred thousands of people working in uranium mines, in laboratories and at enrichment plants to produce this amount of fuel. They were poorly reimbursed, some of them got ill, became disabled or died.
All along, the USA had lied about the meaning of this con and its impact on the Russian economy and its population.
Video: How Megatons to Megawatts changed US-Russia relations
The Megatons to Megawatts program, also known as the Highly Enriched Uranium (HEU) Agreement, was one of the most successful examples of U.S.-Russia collaboration in the nuclear sphere. As its name implies, it has enabled the conversion of megatons of destructive nuclear power to megawatts of electricity. This was achieved by turning 500 tons of highly enriched uranium from Russian nuclear warheads dismantled as part of disarmament initiatives into fuel for U.S. nuclear power plants.
It was important for the United States, because 50 percent of the electricity produced by the nuclear power plants in the U.S. used the uranium from the Russian Federation starting from 2000.
There is, however, something called the divine justice or karma. In eighteen years that Russia worked to supply 50% of all energy consumed in the USA, Russia took its nuclear science and production to an unprecedented level, with breakthrough technologies that the rest of the world has not even started to comprehend. The US meanwhile has lost whatever they manage to get from stolen in 1940s German’s technologies.

I have a hunch. Just like before to Putin signing an executive order to recognize the IDs issued by the Donbass republics, I had a hunch that Moscow would do what the West was pushing it to do and start fulfilling the Minsk Agreement, in the way that suits Russia.
I have this sort of nagging hunch about upcoming 100th year anniversary of the Bolsheviks revolt, that certain comrades are expecting with fervor. The communists are walking around screaming about social injustice embodied by the privatization in the 90s. They demand to right all wrongs. They don’t mean what they say, however, they are just using the Catastrophe of the 90s to cause a social unrest and the repetition of the 90s.
I have a feeling that Putin will meet their demands, literally, and they won’t like it at all, but we will.
Scott Humor
The Anglo-sphere and the West generally have become sloppy (drunk with power) over the last seventy years. They have lost the moral high ground which gave them a seat at the table. Military power alone, without morality, in the end will fail (thank God!)
Russia, under the leadership of Putin, has inherited the mantle of morality from the West. He saw it lying on the ground, not being used; he tried it on and it fit. No moral person could fail to support Russia so far in this century. If Russia (and Iran, Lebanon, Syria and China) go down the world will be a much colder and less human place. If the West (and here I include Saudi Arabia and Israel) go down, the world will be a much more just and peaceful place. Too bad about Kaddafi – I believe he was a good man. That, of course, is why he was killed. I had hoped Russia and China would stand by his side. Alas, that was not to be. I hope Russia and China won’t repeat that error which cost the world so dearly in terms of humanity.
Cat Motya must be quite a young cat, judging by the amount of sausages, candy and herring he devours. He could not have been conscious to “Soviet reality” before the late 80s. Maybe i’m wrong (and i’m a fan of Cat Motya). For the record: the empty food shelves, the rationing system, the alcohol crunch, the cigarette crunch, etc. were all subversive special ops. Goprbachev’s first assignments for the CIA and all the rest of the “stakeholders” passionately desiring for the soviet union to go down. The idea was to make people more inclined to wish for change (capitalism). (I was born in 1966). A percpicacious analyst and a deeply religious person, Cat Motya inexplicably shuts his brain off when speaking of communism or the current “red” wing. For example, he seems to consider Ziuganov and the communist party of today to be bona fide. He really should know better. This fake communist party are Motya’s classic “vmestonashi,” or “vmestozanas,” created with western money to vent the steam, which they have been doing dutifully since 1991. Etc.
There were never full shelves of anything. Your wild fantasies about “special ops” are utter nonsens. Empry shelves barked at you in literally every communist country. There was always a lack of consumer products in every sphere. Its ridiculous to tell cat isnt right cause he is young. I have more a feeling you are absolutely far from reality to realize that people spended hours every week to stand in long lines to get some fruits or other things of daiyl use. If it was sold out it was sold out. Car? Waiting time 15 years. Furnitures? Doesnt matter if ugly or not, grab what u get. TV´s? Fridges? You better hope for the best. People were sitting partly on stuff which was 50 years old. And the mentioned sell out to the west took place also in every socialist country. We worked like slaves to produce consumer goods for western markets we did not have ourselves. These products were sold after to the west and we got a penny on the dollar of the product value. If you opposed to that wonderful nightmare KGB, Securitate, polish SB or east german STASI organised a wonderful time for you in pretty nice recreation centers. So I dare you to tell her something of the beauty of the communist times and that it was ruined by evil Gorby. They startet with mass slaughters and the finshed with ruining whle countries. It was the entire time.
Pjiotr: That’s unfair!
The East could not create Dollars or Deutschmarks from thin air to buy all products of the world in exchange for some self-printed paper.
And it did not want to exploit the 3rd world like the west is doing to afford the western “benefits”.
Compare national debts of Communist countries to what imperialist countries on the other side had even at the time, let alone now.
You will find that Communism was mostly self-sufficient, without the northern hemisphere ripping off the southern hemisphere.
Also the long queues came when Gorbachev already destroyed the last remains.
Read Stalin’s works on improving the economy (which were no longer implemented until his “death”/killing).
Furthermore those countries which later belonged to the Eastern Bloc had been destroyed much more severely in WW2, plus had been poorer and way less developed regions before (mostly agricultural), compared to Western Europe.
Your views are short-sighted and not based on historic facts.
Now, how wonderful were the majority’s living conditions before 1917?
Mass slaughters?
You mean something that the non-communist West has been committing since it began to exist?
Such as the genocide in Iraq with (currently) 1.1 million direct victims?
This number is growing because the capitalist west used depleted Uranium ammunition there, just as now in Syria, in Serbia and many other places? With cancer rates and child deaths having gone up some thousand percents?
Or all the time while they occupied their slave “colonies” in Africa and all over the globe?
Or are you referring to the legendary west-invented “genocides” in double quotes, like the one in China or Romania in 1989?
(*Important*) CIA staged fake “massacre” of Timisoara – Romanian Revolution 1989 documentary Nicolae Ceausescu (revolutia romana 89)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUAQvBw30eM
Same as the heavenly 100 of Maidan, Bus back to Crimea, Odessa 2.5.2014, Mariupol 9.5.2014, Lugansk 2.6.2014 which were killed on purpose by your capitalist west itself, to topple a democratically elected government which refused to blindly follow western banking cartel’s instructions to make sure a war starts?
What people blaming communism for everything forget: It was at first planned and financed by the global tribe to destroy Russia and to create a one-world-government. But Lenin and Stalin had different and better goals.
That’s why my life in Communism was like that of many others a good life.
As Zoran already hinted: Forget your Tsarist wet-dreams. Without industrialization in rocket speed, a Russia like that one as it existed before 1917 would have been destroyed and occupied by Hitler in no time.
Cherry-picking may be allowed in history, but don’t sell this as matters of fact then.
Entire history or nothing.
Coworker of mine, scientist, from Soviet Union, he said that at one point science in SU just collapsed. This was in Gorbachev’s time, early. Also, I read economic book with analysis in certain science/tech/industry field, same thing, just collapsed. Documentation, numbers/data quite clear. It was top down, policy to shut down. Gorbachev. It wasn’t resource problem. It was policy to collapse system. Quite clear.
Does this have anything to do with other areas of economy? Don’t know.
The biggest fraud in the history of the world is (Jewish) banks and usury, massively creating ‘money’ out of thin air starting with the Bank of Amsterdamn – 1609. The first countries they go totally under their control were the Calvinistic countries Holland and Britain. After that they corrupted and wreaked havoc on the entire world including Tsarist Russia. (they almost ruined the entire world actually, the last 500 years)
Capitalism, Communism (at least what it was devised for, and started in Russia) and Nazism are all monstrous frauds of the same banksters & gangsters’ mob. I reckon Stalin, Molotov and the likes tried to make something more decent and democratic of it, but never succeeded, although partly. At least they were that independent, and therefore a threat to the banksters’ NWO that the latter organized the Hitler Project.
Of course is Zyuganov bona-fide. Propagators of Nazism (David Duke’s latest vid. – shame on him) definitely are not, they’re contemptibly, and dangerously stupid ignorants (at least about Nazism). For all his monstrous faults, Stalin’s still Russia was by far the lesser evil compared to the (shadow) government of the West, the idiotic rat race (= slavery) in the West, and its monstrous behaviour abroad. Stalin’s Russia was all that stood between the the latter and their worldwide tyranny (and worse). Once a totalitarian (Nazi) tyranny is established (as in Germany), one cannot get rid of it.
This is difficult to read. Cat Motya is WRONG on all things Soviet. Why no affluence, no excessive consumer industry, no overconsumption in the soviet union? (This is further proof that Motya must be young – he doesn’t get it). The soviet union was an existentially anti-capitalist, anti-consumerist, anti-property system. People didn’t own anything and didn’t care. “STUFF” didn’t matter. We had different priorities – human ones. I was raised by a solo mother, a rank and file engineer. We had enough, sometimes we had very little, but NO ONE cared back in those days, we didn’t care. THIS is the only way for human beings to live, but ii know Motya will disagree. The soviet union was a godless godland. People lived by god’s laws but didn’t even know it. But it felt good and it felt right, that’s how people actually knew they lived right by god. There was a bit of monastic rigour to our lives. As an Orthodox Christian Motya should be more understanding on this. Why isn’t he raving about trhe monks rejecting worldly possessions? Motya seems to disagree that life is not about owning stuff. That’s why he’s saying that life has never been better for Russians than it is now, under Putin. What he means by that is an open mystery. He does NOT mean spiritual well-being, because only a blind person could not see how deeply regressed Russian society is spiritually. I never argue with Cat on his blog – because his pronouncements on communism and the soviet union are beyond absurd, and i don’t know where to start even. His maximalism is frightening. I fear it and resent it. Cat Motya DOESN’T GET IT when it comes to what the soviet union was all about.
About SU I don’t know. But about decadent materialism of west, pretty obvious.
100% agree with what you just wrote Mikhail.
People behave in much more un civilized way to each other now.
And not only that. Cat forgets that whatever Russia still has is what was built and developed by Soviet Union, including diminished but still decent education an ability to protect herself.
He seems not to notice the elephant in the room, with 1% of basically thieves owing almost everything in Russia.
I doubt it will end up well if the whole privatization abomination is not reversed.
Privet from Ljubljana comrades!
I like reading Cats articles, even if they are quite subjective. I addmit I was strait commie(familly tradition) before I have read many books of Lenin, Stalin, their purges…
You cant judge communists if you are not one!
Yugoslav military books tells us that Stalin was not responsible for destroying communism, lack of communists were responsible for that! Western support of White guard forced Soviet Sayuz to send its best people-avantgarde (1000000) of working class to die on Denikin,Kolčak fronts.
Apartchics and cowards stayed safe and all that policy was made from them-little people often from former Czar regime.
Few years ago one orthodox cristian from former Ukraine told me interesting opinion:
there was no masonic attempt to crush Russia, it was God himself who send bolshevics to Russia
to clear al that misery, unjustice, poverty of fevdal Czar regime…
Only army with Red star was able to demolish nazis, only heroic Red army soldiers came with RED banner and placed it on Reichstag!
With all respect Cat Monya do you think white/blue/red flag of Czar/democratic Russia would ever came there?
I don’t know what Cat thinks on your final question, but I am sure Russia will take Berlin one more time should it run out of other options. Earlier warnings that the WW3 won’t be fought on Russian territory fell on deaf ears. Recently, RT reported that Russia is building a permanent replica/model of the Reichstag for schoolchildrens’ military exercises [https://www.rt.com/news/378303-reichstag-russia-army-children/]. Given the time and context, I rate this report as hint that if the EU (under German lead) continues to walk on Moscow, it will get crushed again.
Nice to hear from you again, Marcel Leutenegger. I was going to post a comment in the café asking if anyone had heard lately from our defiant Swiss (? if memory serves?) man who refuses to just be a cog in the machine. I thought maybe you’d landed in some judicial trouble. Good to see that’s not the case!
No troubles so far – I am doing fine, thanks. I was taking two weeks off on Christmas and New Year and was then busy to catch up thereafter (at work as well as here :-) ). Just in case, I also comment on the German news portal http://www.heise.de.
Best regards,
Marcel
A few years ago, a friend from Switzerland told me that he couldn’t believe I had my own private house (apartment)in Romania back in the communist time. He is older than me, and he still lives in a rented apartment. In the western democracies, the many peoples have not their own apartments still, till now. In 1991, my mother sold my apartment and her for a good price for that time. Right after this, came the super-inflation, the value of the money plunged enormously letting us practically with nothing. After the shock-therapy which lasted for a decade, the prices climbed again. Today, the value of our apartments brought together has a value of 180.000 euro, which means, we lost that amount of money, a work of a lifetime. In the same shoes have fallen millions in the estern-european countries in the 90’s. Ad to this, the demolition and destruction of factories and the sale-out through privatization. The result is a colossal loss. How many people have perished as a result ? nobody knows, nobody cares cause is “freedom and democracy” and the “free press” and media never talks about that. If yes, then is the fault of the communists, who else. The west has exploited the fall of the system at extremes, without a blink in the eye.
Cat Motya has said many truths in his commentary regarding the communists, in the way how this ideology has been applied in USSR and after that in the eastern European countries. But he failed to mention that is not the ideology to blame, but the people. The moral weakness of the ruling communist elites, the corruption and godlessness. Another particularity of the system was the tremendous political power at their disposal, leading to miserable crack-downs on everyone who dared to remember them (the elite) which is the right path to follow. That has led to dictatorship. But let us not forget the very hard times what followed after the 1917 Revolution : the whole country was in a full civil war for many years to come. A lot of atrocities have been done by both sides, adding to the external intervention. Normally, that Stalin comes to power in the right time and normally, he must instate order and discipline at first, then reinvigorate the economy. The enemies from within and from outside must be defeated. They haven’t been defeated, cause they learn the lesson very quickly and reorganized by entering the ranks of the party. From that moment, they did everything possible to defecate on the real principals and ideals of the communist ideology : this ideology was in fact socialism, a state controlled economy based on communist ideals which means an egalitarian society which shares the common benefits of their work. That road had many setbacks from the beginning. The leading capitalist system opposed it from the beginning and made all things possible to make the new system as obsolete and ineffective as they could. Guess who helped them ? the corrupt party elites within the socialist system. I know, it is very painful to tell the truth, but is necessary. In conclusion : not the ideal is to blame, but the weak human character.
With the same logic you apply I can also justify national socialism. It wasnt the national socialism who failed, it were the people. Gosh…dear god in heaven send brain down to earth
I think that you led yourself into a trap. The national socialism may differ from communist/socialism. The national socialism had an economy based on the old capitalist system, with a national character.
The Germans first, then any others after. Had the Germans not pursue a military solution in such a short time after they came to power, we can speculate upon, not for long anyway, the two ideologies – the national socialism and communist/socialism – have grown up on two very different paths (both historical and social, cultural-ideological, not to mention the multitude of nationalities who lived always in Russia – that’s why the communist ideology have an internationalist slogan) Today, Russia faces the same multitude of nationalities and religions. So, the fight between the two ideologies mentioned above, was in such terms inevitable. And why the people ? the people are born with two feet on the ground, they love to have a property, they love to own a piece of land or anything else as their own. That is part of the human character. When they (the humans) have fought times over times to get a property – fighting against their own human brothers – because many of them were insatiable, then is hard for them to give it back to the benefit of the all. That is why the capitalist system is still a winner, because of the human character. All this, is a long journey – with sufferings and blood – in the human spiritual evolution. We didn’t come here to own the Earth, who can take with him all his fortune after his death ? Once the lessons are not understood, the sufferings will continue.
The human character is anticapitalist. No human wants to be exploited. That is why the capitalists always have to resort to deadly violence. Thier message is very simple but convincing: “Let me exploit you or I kill you”. They are even threatening to wipe out humanity to enforce capitalism(“Western values”). In 1787 Madison summarized the task of the US regime the following way: “protect the minority of the opulent against the majority.”
“Washington should identify war aims that in the last resort would contemplate the destruction of Soviet political authority and the emergence of a postwar world order compatible with Western values.”

What communists are walking around, screaming? Haven’t seen any. removed Quite simply: the soviet union was, existentially, an anti-capitalist, anti-consumerist, anti-property state. Metaphysically, it was anti-vice, anti-greed, pro-light and anti-darkness, pro-life and anti-death. Capitalism is death. Capitalism brings human beings down to baseness and death. Capitalism makes the road to hell look very cute, enticing and fun. The soviet system was built to uplift the human being by enforcing God’s laws without any mention of God. Human vices did exist, but it was powerfully marginalized. Human vice won out in the end. My generation is to blame, too, as well as the generation before (those in the high eschelons of power).
Please stop the personal attacks. The moderation policy is clearly stated on the site. Any further will go to trash.Mod
Besides, capitalism is long over. What they have in store for this planet is much, much worse, if you can imagine. If they get their way (and they can only get their way if Russia goes down), this will be a new feudalism and new paganism, a centrally controlled global dictatorship of vice, purged of all humanity. Education and knowledge will be denied to everyone but those in charge and their progeny. Hundreds of millions will just be annihilated for a start, because they are in the way. A global dictatorship of vice and violence of unheard-of ferocity PLUS high technology, which makes sure you are watched and controlled at all times. Etc.
Everyone should know how Russia looked after wwII. destroyed to the ground. there was no Marshall Plan for Russia. the West has imposed iron curtain to Russia, prohibited any technological, cultural cooperation,etc.. This is the way west is protecting own values and that inevitably include look to other countries that are good prey. in this case that was and stil is Russia. Russia itself (and the USSR) resisted almost rest of the western controlled globe. While the American continent during wwII had not single grenade exploded, the rest of the world was in ashes. if the Russians believed or not in communism that’s on them, but it would be fair to pay tribute to the sacrifice they have given in their belief in social equality among people. ideology of social justice, in this case communism, but in my former country Socialism, is not to blame. people in power are those who have interpreted “equality”. anyway, Slavs were not the ones who led imperial wars for centuries. West is the one forever searching for the robbery.
I’d rather hang out with a Russian who has having a vodka, but with an American who has a gun in his hand.
Winning a war for big nation like Russia (or Soviet Union) might not be the most toughest test. It’s much more complex and problematic to win the peace.
“The effects of violent leveling invariably abate over time: Populations recover when plagues subside, failed states are replaced by newcomers. By now the aftershocks of the 20th century’s great wars have faded. Top tax rates and union membership are down, communism is defunct, and globalization, however reviled, is (still) in full swing. The four levelling forces will not return any time soon: Technology has made mass warfare obsolete; violent, redistributive revolution has lost its appeal; most states are more resilient than they used to be; and advances in genetics will help humanity ward off novel germs.”
Walter Scheidel has good points there. However i don’t see much other future for Europe (and likely to USA too) than increased internal instability. And relatively weaker compared to China, India, Indonesia and rest of Asia.

Despite the destruction during WW2, high military spending and draconic sanctions caused by the imperialists socialism in Eastern Europe provided the highest standard of living ever before in those countries and higher than in most capitalist countries (even today). Of course socialism had its faults and needed reform, but the capitalist experiment is much worse:

Capitalism only serves the top 1%. Capitalism even fails at providing the most basic needs like food and housing. 1 billion people are starving worldwide because of this. Over 30 million people are starving to death every year. To enforce this cruel system the US warlords deploy thier death squads all over the planet and even threaten to wipe out humanity in a nuclear strike:

Even if you think yourself as a profiteer of the capitalist system you cannot ignore the fact that it will destroy this planet if it is not overcome. Money won’t help you and your family when earth becomes inhabitable because of a nuclear war or enviromental destruction.
Communism was the biggest fraud in the history of the world against nations. It had depopulated nations all over the world. Ironically, a friend of mine told me, communism ideology was being taught in US universities but didn’t create communism movement among the people like it did in other nations. One think that is not clear to me is, communism originated from Marxist ideology by Marx and Engles from Germany. Marxism/Communism however didn’t affect Germany but it got exported to Russia. This ideology could have been designed in Germany to destroy Russia.
Put simply, Communism and Capitalism are the left and the right hand of the Banksters.
No! because in a real communist system, the banks are in the hand of the state, supervised by the state and no outside banks are permitted to interfere in any way. Particular owned banks are not permitted, whereas in the capitalism system, the private banks are the main actors. This is the big difference which made the two ideologies bitter enemies to each other. Till now, the money won and the Banksters are on the top… but, hey, it’s cracking…
I doubt both Capitlism and Communism were enemies of each other; don’t forget the banksters in US funded communist revolution in Russia and worked hand and glove with each other against other nations except in the West. The main goal is to affect other nations.
realist: In an earlier post you stated that “Marxism/Communism however didn’t affect Germany but it got exported to Russia. “.
I sent you about 3 responses. One of which was visible for some time but then no more.
I attempt it again, this time shortened: Communism *did* affect Germany a whole lot.
And Revolutions did not only materialize in Russia but at th same time there were several attempts to create Soviet Republics on German soil.
You can than the Communists that Germany gave away victory in WW1:

Communists were extremely accepted and powerful in Germany during the late 1910th, the entire 1920ties and early 1930ties.
Hitler’s NSDAP used the color RED and the name “socialist worker’s party” as a deception to trick more and more workers into electing the NSDAP, rather than the communist KPD.
Unfortunately Cat and fellows never mention nor want to hear all this.
Because that doesn’t fit their narrative.
Problem is only: It was the reality of the time.
Dear Kirov,
Sorry, I only saw this reply from you.
Yes, there was struggle to quash Communism in US as well via McCarhthyism and it succeeded. There are still reminants of socialism/communism in the West running for office. The realization is that it was a disaster in Russia and other nations. Obviously those who set it up used it against these nations and was designed to fail except until 1991 in the Soviet Union. What I mean is that it wasn’t worth killings of billions throughout the world and it still failed..except China created a hybrid Communist/Capitalist system which is clever way to transition gradually unlike Russia.
Thanks for the links.
Scott, thank you for another great report and Cat Motya translation. I just want to recognize and applaud your bravery and courage in writing about all these subjects. I don’t know how you avoid attempts on your… well-being. (yep, that’s jealousy from me, right there!!) I think we are very fortunate to read your posts in addition to The Saker’s writings. So – bravo and thank you. Keep it up!
You can complain about communism and Soviet Union as much as you like and definitely justifiably so in most cases, but don’t make a mistake thinking that it actually was anything like true communism. Not. Even. Close. It started with a good and noble idea but got horribly distorted along the way thanks, as always, to human failings that have plagued such endeavours since… ever.
The basic truth is that this planet has had many experiments and notional communist or socialist states, but only in name. Every one of them turned into something else, not because the ideals and tenets were wrong but because those interpreting those principles either couldn’t or didn’t wish to see them realized.
Thanks to the 2000 year old axiom: power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely.
It should not be forgotten that the Soviets were attacked, internally, and invaded by other nations (US included) from the start, and has been threatened by or actually attacked ever since.
No sane system of government has ever held up to such fierce attacks because the management style must shift from peaceful consensus to authoritarian reactionism as the country reacts to the attacks in order to survive — and it is difficult to make a comeback from that as the authoritarians take power.
How can you keep your souffle from collapsing with bombs falling and soldiers stomping around in the kitchen, knocking into the oven? It’s very difficult.
We can see the problem when a country’s rulers manufacture threats for the very purpose of seizing and keeping power.
The soviets also had the problem of trying to put together a system which was theoretically described but which they had not seen in operation (which had happened and worked well, but only in small and/or isolated places). It was like trying bring in the slowly emerging capitalist system in the year 1300.
Mikie, say what?
“don’t make a mistake thinking that it actually was anything like true communism. Not. Even. Close. It started with a good and noble idea but got horribly distorted along the way thanks, as always, to human failings that have plagued such endeavours since… ever.”
wow, true communism started where and when?
what’s true communism anyway? a bunch of lies to enslave the people.
the rev/1917 was a true bloodshed of russians by a clique of misers thirsty for power and full of hate and revenge. all was planned from faraway — never mind utopia, ‘ideals and tenets’ as in beatniks, rock and roll and lsd.
it was a time of horror, a genocide, an imposed famine and destruction of a people moral for seventy years.
Scott,
i feel for your soul and i know how much more you would like to write and you cannot. thanks.

Capitalism brought back (sex-)slavery, war and hunger to Eastern Europe. Capitalism only serves the top 1%. Scott is showing his eclecticism and open-mindedness in most peculiar ways, including a propensity to irreverence to sacred cows and orthodox conventions. Good. But bloviating feline rants of doubtful authenticity is beyond the pale.
Cats are notoriously suspect of being one of the most selfish creatures around and that alone would bar them from any communist society or, at least, a prime example for a Stalinist-size purge. I happen to know that facet of cat’s personality when I rescued a newborn one from certain death and took him home to be nursed to health and become part of the family. As a youngster he played a bit but as he grew up he withdrew into himself and became a normal unsocial cat whose only interaction with others was demanding to be fed at the right times – and opening doors for him.
The rant is not, I suppose, to be taken seriously – perhaps there is even an element of parody or self-mocking. It pillories “communists” as a particular animal with vicious tendencies and designs as if such a beast is well known to us as a well recognized species. Who are those “communists”? The Trotsy variety and all Jewish free-loaders who used the Bolshevik party as the ladder and tool to power? The Menshevik sort who had wet dreams of reaching communist through capitalist “democracy”? The many traitors and subversive agents of foreign powers masquerading as communists? The post-Stalin revisionists who started dismantling the ideological and economic underpinnings of communism? Or the more recent cabal of sell-outs who literally sold the Soviet Union down the river to capitalism? They were not communists.
Then he means the millions of the common people of the Soviet Union who believed a communist just society was worth fighting and working for. And they did fight the internal enemies and external aggression almost non-stop from the very birth of the Union until its victorious march into Berlin. And they also worked tirelessly to build a new nation from extreme backwardness to become the founders of the space age. They were all the garden variety communists of the Soviet Union and it dishonours anyone who thinks they were the “communists” of the rant.
The Soviet Union was never a monolithic society and its variety was reflected in the leadership. There were many currents of thought and lots of experimentation to fine tune the communist system – a goal never achieved. Of course, many mistakes were made but by the time of Stalin’s death and reconstruction the Soviet Union was ready to challenge the capitalist supremacy and prove that a just society was possible and feasible, not a mere utopia. The more advanced socialist country, East Germany, entirely rebuilt after WWII (and before then the least developed region of Germany) was already surpassing western European capitalist countries.
Cat-like fashion, the rant repeats the tired old meme of empty shelves. But he does not say anything about the Walmat queues and similar events.- they are the same thing: people knowing in advance of bargains or desired items being available for sale in some shops. Of course, there were distribution problems in the Soviet Union but that was a technical issue. Besides, consumerism was an anathema in communist ideology because production was to provide for the needs of the people, not to boost profits for corporations, the same principle that outlawed advertising because of its nefarious aims. Yes, the Soviet Union was not built to provide fads and to measure society by the ratio of cars, TV sets and other gadgets per capita. One does not need those things to have a full and happy life, unless one is driven by greed and acquisitiveness.
But there is something that discredits our Cat’s rant, namely his inveighing against the lack of production of consumer goods in the Soviet Union. But then we are also told that they were sold to capitalist countries to earn foreign currency. I never heard of such a thing, except for a few Lada cars seen in Western Europe as a curiosity not a serious attempt at balancing the trade flows. But a contradiction does not matter – a rant is a rant.
.
The “Cat” also ignores the fact that it is impossible to extend the Western consumerist model to the rest of the world because the resources of the earth are limited. You would need 5(!) planets to do that. The Western colonial powers can only sustain this because they are looting the rest of the world since the beginning of capitalism.
Interesting article.
Here are a few polls.
The peoples of the USSR were asked in a referendum in 1991 if the USSR should be kept. The vote of the Russian SFSR (Russians) was 73% “Yes”.
The total “Yes” vote in the USSR was 77.8% .
Obviously “Cat” believes he knows more about peoples thinking than the “people” did at that time.
A newer poll. When asked if life was better under the USSR,” A stunning 64 per cent of Russians who were aged ten or over in the totalitarian one party state rated the quality of life higher ….”
Obviously Cat disagree’s with 64% of Russians older than 10 during the USSR as well.
http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/701026/russians-life-better-soviet-union-ussr-sixty-four-percent
But lets look at the newer poll talked about in the article concerning what period in a 100 years was Russia’s best.
After 23 years of anti-Communist propaganda,we see:
32% said that under Putin is the best.
37% put together named the period under a Communist leader.
6% named the period between the Tsar’s fall, and the Communist takeover.
1% named the Yeltsin period.
24% said they couldn’t give just one answer (so no answer).
Now according to my simple math that is 100% answering that question.
I don’t see that, as Cat would have us believe, as a repudiation of the Soviet era.So once again the larger number of the Russian people seem to not agree with Cat.

Some basic veterinary notes on hypersalivation [a.k.a. drooling or driveling] in cats, un uncommon condition
“Cats in general are not prone to drooling. Because it is uncommon, getting a veterinary assessment is the best course of action, to determine whether the hypersalivation is harmless or serious. The earlier that a health issue is detected, the more likely it can be successfully treated. Secondary bacterial infections can develop if mouth injuries are left too long. Saliva can also irritate the mouth and, in response, the immune system will cause the body to section the excess saliva off in a cavity. If the drool has a foamy appearance, the situation may prove to be fatal.”

Once the 1959 Cuban revolution dismantled the bordello-plantation system that the Spaniards had first installed in that beautiful island, and then the Americans had vastly perfected after 1898, a large contingent of gold-toothed halitosious assholes moved or were kicked out of Cuba to various places. Many returned to Spain, the rest mostly to the US, where they tended to concentrate in the Miami area. This group was belligerent and supported by US interests, and they soon came to be known as the “gusanera” which literally means a swarm of worms or a place where worms are farmed for various purposes. Now, these ex-Cubans of the “gusanera” are notorious for their mendacity and the foamy nature of their hatred. It is a matter of some simple fact checking that the dignity, achievements and quality of life in Cuba for the overwhelming majority of its population rose spectacularly in a less than a decade after the revolution, while Cuban neighbors in places like Haiti and Central America continued to enjoy the vertiginous beauty of jungle Capitalism. Similar parallels can be drawn to the Russian experience, I suppose. A backward country devastated by years of civil wars, then further devastated (almost annihilated) by a German-led European invasion, and yet in a matter of 12 years it puts people in space and creates a prosperous and relatively egalitarian society based on principles to which, as has been mentioned here, Christian religions pay lip service but often little more than that lip. It was the existence of the Soviet Union that encouraged social policies in western Europe, because the non-stop anti-communist propaganda and Gladio operations were not enough to placate the communist impulses in their populations. And then, when finally the ruling soviet elites were successfully bribed and brainbleached by western wizards, the installation of Capitalism (i.e. the outright massive theft of all public assets) brought about the usual joys of these liberating operations: skyrocketing misery for the many and obscene wealth for the few, who promptly transferred their vulgar nouveau riche wealth to the West in order to hobnob with Saudi princes in London or the Costa del Sol. Repulsive creatures actively contributing to the image of Russians as newly arrived magnates. Meanwhile, the nightmare of the 1990s, which is not quite over yet despite appearances, blew through Russia like a plague.. And now we have to hear this utter nonsense by a hypersalivating cat who displays his drivel like a trophy.
The communism I believe in–the only form of collective/cooperative ownership of the means of production and distribution inherently impervious to the capitalist obsession to commodify people and planet–is the communism practiced by the early church before it courted, then married, empire. A stunningly beautiful depiction of this way of life, in a more modern context, can be found in one of the most popular novels of the late 19th Century: “Looking Backward” by Edward Bellamy. The sequel, “Equality,” published ten years later, goes a long way toward tying up loose ends left in the earlier work. While Bellamy’s 19th Century thinking needs 21st Century revision, his model of a humane and efficient nationalized economy–easily able to outperform chaotic, heartless capitalism–remains an invaluable resource for contemporary socialist/communist movements.
“Go and get off me you lovers of communism, and you fans of pharaoh Lenin and his pyramid, and you lovers of red pentagrams. You are all beyond hope, you are incurably ill, so go to hell and quit blocking sunshine. I am going to explain to you the very last time my position.”
Really??
No need to read anything after that opening sentence. Regrettably I did it anyway.
Thrash from a cultural, and spiritual “Nitwit” that’s all. Ignorance is absolutely staggering in this one.

Life was pretty good before Gorbachov really started experimenting upon us.
Motya is talking about how fair Russia is becoming show only one thing that he is totally shill of current Russian gangster barons elite who stole everything that was worth stealing form Soviet / Russian peoplend ensaving them. Now, instead of getting free apartments, free education, medicine, day care, decent retirement people are in constant slavery. Yes, there was not as much variety in stores but quality of what was available was far better and food was tastier. Nobody was adding coconut oil into milk products…
And really, who need that kind of variety while paying through his nose for mortgaged apartments, education and a lot of stuff that was free in Soviet time sand having basically decent retirement payment as many have to continue working because retirement cannot cover basic expenses. Is that fair?
(Removed MOD) Motya also forgets that Soviet power made Russia into what it is now, capable to defend herself while under previous regime Russia was backward, poor and clearly unable even to provide military with what it needed. really (Removed MOD).
