Dear friends,
Jeff J. Brown, whom I interviewed here and who contributed this to the blog, has agreed to write a monthly contribution to this blog. I have high hopes for this as I believe that his “view from China” will be an ideal complement to what Andrew Korybko writes from Moscow and what I write from the USA.
We need to things:
a) a nice title to his column, maybe something like ““The Moscow-Beijing Express”?
b) a matching logo.
Any ideas?
If yes, please post them here.
Thanks a lot in advance!
The Saker
The Tran-Siberian Express serves well, connecting Moscow with Beijing.
19/20 Trans-Manchurian ‘Vostok‘ train…
Is China the cute Panda, or the Dragon? Or both.
For the title perhaps “China – Panda or Dragon”
It seems the recent US escapades in the SCS gave them a look at the dragon. It seems they have returned to baiting the bear while building up forces to tackle the dragon.
views from the Silk Road?
Read recently that the Chinese media administration was cracking down on the use of puns.
So….
To Ya (Chinese)
As in, “Toast, here’s *to you*.”.
To Ya is what one might write upon a wall (as in a certain Great Wall), that is: Graffiti.
To Ya
or
Here’s To Ya
How about ‘The Trans-Siberian Observatory’?
well, I think the word ‘observatory’ is a very good idea…not sure what should be in front of it.
And EVER the Twain Shall Meet
An overcoming of the old Empire’s dream (“East is East and West is West and Never the Twain Shall Meet” of forever dividing and conquering the “World Island” and its peoples and resources, as expressed by their British Empire literary propagandist, Rudyard Kipling:
The Ballad Of East and West by Rudyard Kipling
Oh East is East and West is West, and never the twain shall meet,
Til earth and sky stand presently at God’s great Judgement Seat.”
No, Rudy, They SHALL meet via: 1 The New Silk Road
2 Russia’s role as the Keystone nation of Eurasia, a protective capping of
both continents, from the north.
3 and 4th lines of the Imperialist poem:
“But here is neither East nor West, Border, nor Breed, nor Birth,
When two strong men stand face to face, though they come from the ends of the earth!”
In his poem Kipling glorifies the recruitment of Kamal in the service of the “Colonel”, ie British Empire’s warring and killing of other Southwest Asians to protect the British hold on their “crown Jewel”, India, the Kyber Pass, etc. India, where they forced opium cultivation in order to subdue and loot China.
Now, at the top of the conjoined continents (at the Ural Mountains) Europe (West) meets Asia (East) in Russia, at the north, but Russia also meets Western China to the south with the inter-mediation of Kazakhstan, in between.
Now, the presidents of Russia and China are the “two strong men” instead of a Brit Colonel and his loyal “wog” warrior.
Then all Saker needs is the right Correspondent from India to fill out the “Ever the Twain Shall Meet” RIC core of the BRICS contribution, with both I (India) and C (China, Jeff Brown) alternating every other two weeks.
Or, along the lines of the same cooperative, peaceful concept, WIN, WIN, WIN
LOGO to be: Mercatur projection of the earth’s surface with the major Silk Roads in bold liines across the continents. China gets a big star in the center, for financing more of the Road than anyone else.
But project the earth;s surface opposite to the way Atlanticist geographers represent it: Instead of Eurasia and Africa on the right (EAST) and the Americas on the left (West) with the Atlantic Ocean prominently featured in the center, the logo would place Eurasia and Africa to the left and the Americas to the right dividing the Atlanticist “lake” in two portions at the left and right extremes of the flat map and rightfully placing the Pacific and Indian Ocean basins (where the great majority of humanity resides, in the CENTER). New Silk Road from Shanghai to Lisbon with a bold horizontal line through the center of Eurasia, arched by at least one other World Landbridge line, from Cape Town in the lower left, up the west coast of Africa then across the Sahara, the Gibraltar Tunnel (connects with first line at Madrid then top of Europe to St Petersburg (central Silk Road # 1 goes through Moscow….) and across the top of Siberia through the Bering Straits Tunnel through Western Canada, US, Mexico, Central America to Argentina.
Win, Win, Win.
What would be wrong using the here already posted emblem of the People’s Liberation Army for the logo, http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/34/China_Emblem_PLA.svg/375px-China_Emblem_PLA.svg.png , or one of its versions ?
Or, it could be that most impressive giant statue of young Mao in Changsha, the capital of Hunan: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/a/ac/Mao_Zedong_youth_art_sculpture_4.jpg/640px-Mao_Zedong_youth_art_sculpture_4.jpg
Heaven and Earth
The small departs, the great approaches, rising above any problems.

“Those who are uncertain gradually join.
Whoever come too late
Meets with misfortune.”
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
Crouching tiger sounds like a predator waiting for prey, which does not seem to fit china. Hidden dragon fits.
Speak softly, carry a big stick seems to be the style.
Crouching Tiger:

Sounds good but it is too close to the ‘Crouching Harper, hidden closet’ satire that emerged after Canada’s much vilifiied PM hid in a broom closet when Michael Zehaf-Bibeau attacked Parliament Hill in October 2014.
Maybe ‘too much true news’ — This place has got so much now I can’t keep up with it all — maybe I should go back to just reading the Daily News or NY Times, or watching CNN on TV? :->
It’s amazing!
For a logo, some kind of bear and dragon thing might be quite impressive, if you can manage the artwork.
(And maybe fit a cat in there somewhere too — cats are always good.)

Wow — that could work!
Bear with KungFu Panda logo and Panda-Bear Express!
China is known as “The Middle Kingdom”.So I’d think maybe “View from the Middle Kingdom”.
observations of the Middle Kingdom ?
‘Travelling the Silk Road’.
‘The Silken Road’.
‘The Silk Road Report’
It is Russia Day, or whatever the holiday is called where people can celebrate things like Yeltsin and all the plunder and disorder that came with it, including legacies like the current mess in the Ukraine.
Does anyone know if the average person in Russia supports this holiday?

I vote for the Terracotta Army. It shows how long established is China’s technology, co-operation, defence, and mobilisation of enormous resources. But each statue is individual. It was not faceless mass production. It was individuality — on a giant scale. I see that army saying a lot about Chinese culture through the ages.

A new pit has been found and is being opened, starting just last month. This story includes a video of the existing excavations, with about 7000 figures in it.

Todays must read – German Banker: Russian Sanctions are destroying Europe:
http://off-guardian.org/2015/06/12/german-banker-russian-sanctions-are-destroying-europe/
Indeed, sums it up well. Apart from the human suffering in the south-east regions, given the post-coup mess in the Ukraine and the economic effects on the EU (and specifically Germany as the focus of this link), it is tempting to consider (cui bono?) whether it is not also in Russia’s longer-term interests to have the USA hegemony bogged down undermining the European/German economic competition for the vast future development opportunities associated with the rise of China and EurAsia.
In this case, Poroshenko and his cluster-of-evil-clowns in Kiev are indeed working (whether consciously, or not) for Russia’s viable and prosperous future. The USA ‘wins’ to the extent they can delay the emergence of facts-on-the-ground to contradict their self-proclaimed policy of ‘exceptionalism’ and continue to maintain some degree of control of the global narrative. A nation which is constantly at war and addicted to the economics of military industrial systems cannot tolerate a new peaceful multi-polar world-order breaking out. This is not about control of Europe by Russia — it is about control of Europe by NATO. It is about what the ‘rule-of-law’ based UN was meant to be.
Putin et al clearly sees this and makes a clear distinction between borderlands such as Ukraine drifting ‘west’ (indeed Russia seems open to it as well) and the creep (at risk of becoming a surge) ‘east’ of the US driven, highly expensive, and decreasingly relevant Cold War NATO project.
The ‘war&peace’ paradox is this: ‘peace’ is killing the US domestically, while ‘war’ is killing the EU (Germany) and undermining the Euro. It’s become a ‘win-win’ for Putin, while to the south, Greece is to become a defaulting plague on the German banks and Washington’s IMF while it appears to have a viable economic future as the gas-gateway to southern Europe.
How more complex can it get?
Perhaps with Putin meeting his old mate, Silvio Berlusconi and playing battleships in the Med with Chinese navy off Gaddaffi’s old (and China’s once new investment-land) Libya we may see — with the Pope’s blessing no doubt given recently in Rome (poor little Canada only got 10 minutes!) — a post-NATO Libya come back to sanity soon.
Surely, FIFA has symbolically fallen simply because it is no longer the ‘Greatest Game’ on earth.
I would suggest “Journey to the west”. The title of a great chinese classical novel.

A picture of the two bears together, rather cute.
Too cute to bear .

I go with oldnik and say a Silk Road reference
“News from the Silk Road” is my pref.
If you want a LOGO, I think the symbol of the SCO is as good as it gets.
Dear The Saker,
Some initial thoughts:
1) A Bridseye View from the Middle Kingdom
2) The New Great Game
3) The Eurasian Silk Road
4) The One Belt One Road Journey
The logo – A picture of the Great Wall of China or a picture of a trans-siberian train or a picture of a Chinese Dragon

May be a BRICS TIMES?
with

There are two important Chinese literary works.
Journey to the West
and
The Three Kingdoms
perhaps something can be done with those.
Of course the more technical may make something of the ‘Art of War’ and the ‘Annalects of Confucious’.
I used to write a periodical entitled ‘News from the Free World’ and posted news taken from sources traditionally despised in the USA – like Pravda, Xinhua, etc. It might be interesting to see the reaction today on that headline – it actually had really good traction back in 2000.
“Musing Along the New Silk Road”
“Pearls from the Silk Road” — ?
Logo: how about
“The Dragon and the Bear”
Pivot Talk…
Should be the name since Moscow and Beijing form the northern extentions of the geopolitical pivot that controls world politics.
Tehran is the southernmost point of the geopolitical pivot, (from where another contributor might write from one day), and as a consequence the logo should be an inverted equilateral triangle over an outline map of Eurasia.
Another symbol could be a seesaw with a Chinese girl on the right and a Russian girl on the left over an outline map of Eurasia.
The Moscow-Beijing partnership occupies, with Tehran, the entire Pivot Area which the US has studiously ignored. Moscow-Beijing-Tehran really will rule the world for the next 1000 years.
US policy of containment by chaos of the Pivot Area is the mentality of a geopolitical moron. Instead they should be providing the finance for communications construction in the Pivot area (which China is now doing).
RC
or perhaps “Multi-Polar Musings”
“Silk, Spice, Fireworks”
“The Silk Road Observer”
“Rising Sunspotter”
“Easterly Light”
“True East”
“Star Leaf”
“Silk Dragon”
What about the name –
Kitai Calling
Maybe a simple title like “Sketches of China”.
“Pivot Times”
I too vote for ‘Journey to the West’. I understand it has nothing specifically Chinese in the title but were one to put it on a background of some red and gold chinese doors and it would make perfect sense.
https://www.google.com.au/search?q=red+chinese+doors&safe=off&client=safari&rls=en&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAWoVChMI6qabhPeNxgIVBUO8Ch3fWQCa&biw=1099&bih=577
Otherwise, looking forward to reading more from Mr. Brown. I like the cut of this jib.
Like poster XbNB has the best one, in my opinion.
He suggested :” Travelling the Silk Road”

I like the red star. Added hammer and sickle would also be nice.
