The growing pressure on Russia from Europe every day does not lead to support for street protests and a wave of discontent among Russians, as well as to mass opposition demonstrations, no matter how much we would like to. Sanctions, support for the street opposition, and public threats against Moscow are having the opposite effect: the Washington-fueled protest`s have completely failed, Russian society has become even more united, and the so-called protest leaders have been completely discredited. How did it happen and where is the path to establishing partnership?
In an effort to achieve their foreign policy goals, Europe and the United States are sometimes taking strange and inconsistent steps that hardly fit into the logic of political realism and pragmatism. The most obvious example is attempts to establish a direct dialogue with Russian civil society and the opposition, under which Washington and European capitals traditionally consider the non-systemic liberal opposition and its main person, Alexei Navalny.
Let’s say that even if the West is really trying to establish contacts with Russian civil society, bypassing the state, the choice is strange at least. This is clear to anyone who lives in Russia or can analyze the most superficial sociological data on the political preferences of Russians. Unfortunately, European and American diplomacy step on the same rake from year to year: they invent convenient Russian “public opinion leaders”, rely on them, inflate them in the media and show them as the main opponents of the Kremlin.
Meanwhile, for Russians, Alexei Navalny is a well-known personality, but hardly as popular and authoritative as it is customary to judge outside Russia. He made a name for himself as an instigator of mass protests. After last year’s high-profile events, his fame increased only in the Western media. After voluntarily returning from Germany in February 2021, Navalny was sentenced to almost three years in prison.
Did the imprisonment of Navalny add political points, did mass protests occur throughout Russia over his detention, does the Russian population support this “prisoner of conscience”? All of these questions can be answered unequivocally – no. At a certain stage, the leaders of the regional cells of the Navalny Anti-Corruption Foundation called for open street violence and illegal actions, for which, quite reasonably, the entire network of cells was declared extremist. However, most of the leaders eventually fled abroad. After that, instead of students, specially trained activists began to participate in the protests, and sticks, stones and special equipment began to be used against the rather tolerant police. This may have played a key role in the loss of popular support by the liberal opposition.
Instead of mass protests, information campaigns on social networks, boycotts and non-violent actions, which are quite possible and acceptable in Russia, we see support for Navalny only by those who, for one reason or another, are outside Russia: the fugitive oligarch Mikhail Khodorkovsky, American and European NGOs, by supporters of Navalny who fled to the United States, in foreign media, and now also at the official level. Inside the European Parliament, the daughter of an oppositionist, Darya, was awarded with the prestigious Andrey Sakharov human rights award “For Freedom of Thought” just a month ago. The award was presented personally by the head of the European Parliament, David Sassoli, and was accepted by her colleague Leonid Volkov and daughter Daria. Without hinting at anything, let’s imagine for a second that in the Kremlin, in a solemn atmosphere, an award is presented to one of the organizers of the “yellow vests” protests in France or relatives of the detained American Republicans who stormed the Capitol a year ago. This is hardly imaginable even given that the support of the Yellow Vests or the Republicans is far greater than the support of Alexei Navalny in Russia.
Despite everything, protests in support of Navalny will be held in many cities. Here is the complete list. In the United States, in January of this year, actions in support of Navalny and against the “dictatorial regime of the Kremlin” will be held in seven metropolitan areas: Denver, Boston, New York, Sacramento, Los Angeles, Miami and Chicago. In Europe – in Norway, Belgium, Germany, Denmark, Finland, Czech Republic, Switzerland and Spain, as well as in five other cities in Australia and Georgia.
You do not need to be an international expert and specialist on Russia to understand that one of the main political lines that is massively supported in Russian society is the strengthening of sovereignty, the return to the global geopolitical arena and the desire for a parity dialogue with Western countries. Will foreign actions in support of Navalny give him more credibility in the eyes of Russian society? Of course not, and Western leaders have begun to understand this too. Therefore, already now they are looking for a worthy replacement for Navalny, who is of little interest in Russia itself, and various awards are rather an international human rights courtesy. Over the past twenty years, the West has not been able to feed its own or support a loyal pro-Western opposition leader in Russia. Russian society, after the difficult 90s, seems to have developed a strong immunity to the means of information warfare and Western “soft power” in general.
We can see same rake again and again: they invent “heroes” for themselves, invest in their support, and as a result we get the complete opposite. Looking, as they say in Russia, at “support from across the ocean,” the Russians will rally even more strongly around Vladimir Putin, and ordinary Europeans will, as always, reap the economic and political consequences of the break with Moscow. Mr. Navalny himself probably does not realize, but foreign curators have already sent him into retirement. He might be glad to play some kind of adventure, to play the main opponent of the authorities, but for Washington and Brussels he is already a waste material. They are already looking for a replacement for him, most likely – the same in quality and level of support in society, because there are simply no other liberal oppositionists in Russia.
It seems absurd, but the consequences of American adventures and demonstrative hostility of the European Union will in any case reap ordinary European taxpayers. The continuation of the policy of ultimatums, sanctions and support for imaginary heroes will hit EU exports, the hydrocarbon market and the positions of European business in general in equal measure.
Is it in our interests? Isn’t it time to somehow reconsider the vector of public diplomacy of the European Union and replace the record of the requiem for the Russian opposition with something more cheerful?
also a comparable . UK government has recognised Guaido as President of Venezuela ….courts have thus said he and his team can be put in charge of the gold currently held in UK bank .
Hopefully countries with gold in other countries banks and have western supported oppositionists will now be very wised up….maybe move it to Russia for safe keeping?
oh….and EU extended their sanctions against Russia for another six months…..got their feet caught in the tramlines of destiny while the tramcar gradually inevitably picks up passengers on its way towards them but they cannot get on board while the tramcar at a steady speed comes closer sees them days get out of the tracks if you want to join us otherwise stay in the tracks and….oh dear …hope you have an emergency health service and life insurance that might be worth something.
This is outright theft. No other way to describe it. The thugs running the west do not care one whit for the man in the street.
They care only for themselves and retaining their own power desoite continually showing anyone who looks how incompetent and worthless they are. So they give the people someone to hate and westerners, especially Americans, lap iy up. The US is in a perilous state in every sphere and yet it isn’t the elites fault, no it’s Maduro, Putin, Xi anyone but the dimwits in power for decades now, Things appear to be changing butnot by much and certainly not enought to ‘save’ America. Ditto the UK on a smaller scale, ‘News’ outlets like the Guardian, lie, lie and lie again, their part in the integrity initiative propaganda Unit set up by the ministry of defence exposed in leaks and the rest completely clueless about what Russia is, obsessed only with what Russia was and again the elites blame the East for everything to distract from their sheer incompetence.
JJ, thanks for confirming that UK banks have form when it comes to handling another country’s gold. In 1938 the Bank of England handed CzechoSlovakia’s gold to Nazi Germany.
And who has those trusty records?
history books and some newspapers is the easy way to check Alabama.

Well balanced analysis, enjoyed reading it, waiting for more.
The crux of the conflict between the EU and Russia is beyond the lame attempts of the West to create and support a Russian opposition movement/party/or personality.
The conflict is about the death of European (Western) Civilization.
Russia rejects EU values and culture. Russia has its own civilization and has no need of another, especially a dying, if not dead, one.
No economic or historical ties matter when Russians evaluate the degeneracy and nihilism of the West. Nor can Russians ignore the long history of the West wishing, plotting and acting to destroy Russia and steal its riches. For centuries, the Europeans have sent armies to destroy Russia. There will never be another to cross the red line.
We are at the moment in our present history when Russia has become an Eurasian powerhouse, a partner in Asia in need of nothing from the Europeans or from any faction in the West. The West is an indivisible cancer, metastasized into a Stage 4 tumor.
The West has all the need for Russia and things Russia. Their twisted minds, like vampires, must suck blood (figuratively and literally) from Russians. They need Russian energy products, the “blood” of their economies. And in their pathological ideology, they also need to bleed out the Russian Federation, slaying it as partner and adversary. The Europeans taunt themselves over their perverse need for war with Russia. Thus, the herky-jerky attempts at color revolutions.
Thankfully, President Putin has built a resilient and powerful Russian military that prevents a vast land war. The shorter, smaller war that will result if Russia is attacked or if the missile encirclement is not rolled back as demanded in the Ultimatums of December is un-winnable by the West. Russia will cripple their components, destroy their Article 5 brotherhood and cauterize their manias against Russians and Russia.
The dance started by Peter centuries ago has ended. There is no more music. There is only the rancid stench of the rotting of European Civilization.
Russia has left the dance hall and has returned home.
Well said .

Well spoken. The West does not understand the Russian mentality nor Russian history. Washington DC, for example, was of the opinion that all it had to do was replicate the methods it used in Central and South America when it came to coup d’etats and color revolutions. It did not work out. More than one thousand years of history is behind Russia. Russians can read foreigners very well. The bulk of the population will not fall for cheap political rhetoric designed to break up the country.
L445,
excellent summation and I sure hope Russian elites get the memo.
a minor quibble. Let’s categorize them as a Stage 1 or 2 rather than Stage 3 or 4. Those latter stages are often terminal for the entire corpus due to distant spread. We wish to separate without harming the good living part.
And if lullabies and natural programmed cell death is not possible, we have a solid repertoire of tools to achieve this aim – saws, machetes, thermobarics, fire, Arctic cryotherapy, radiation…
@Larchmonter445
Couldn’t have summed it up better. Also, the credit should also go to Russia’s intelligence agencies, the FSB and the SVR.
The patriotic elements in the KGB waited until the dust settled from the Soviet collapse and put up the most astonishing intelligence counterattack in modern history, which brought Russia back to its feet. They were the cornerstone of Russian sovereignty and its powerful status in the world stage today.
@Man With No Name
SVR, GRU, FSB and Patrushev’s insights clearly anticipated the Kazakhstan coup and color revolution-ISIS-K operations. This enabled the immediate assistance, 24 hr. response by CSTO.
The cream of the crop former KGB men have done an impeccable job countering the West yet again.
There is no end to the trouble the West is attempting to stir around the perimeter of Russia.
Russia possesses its own civilizational imperative.
Larchmonter,
I am trying to be brief in my comments – but please, be patient with me:
I believe we see a very basic factor in play in this “Kraefte-Messen” – RU vs USA, namely the Decline of the West (Untergang des Abendlandes). Perhaps as a “subfactor”, besides the Spenglerian vision of history, I see the measuring of each other strengths in the allegory of “top dog”, or alpha male among animals. In this context let us consider the comparison of Israel as ‘the tail wagging the dog’… the tail is interested not to lose the dog, because if dog dies, so does tail. You would think therefore it is in utmost interest for tail to have the dog prosper.
USA’s foreign policy is led by a powerful lobby, as described by many qualified people. It would seem that it is in vital interest of Israel to have a viable USA. It seems to me that trying to have Russia ‘balkanized’ as it were, was attempted along the Brzezinski’s theory (to start with Ukraine). This theory was based on the assumption that Russia will be too weak to stop it. Now, that this assumption was proven false, the Lobby should quickly change tack, it seems to me. Instead, an attempt to make peace with Russia would make much more sense to preserve a healthy dog…
The reference #15 in the article/interview with Liubis Malenica (yesterday’ Saker) gives a chilling first hand information about the policy coup which USA suffered. It explains a lot of what is happening now.
@ bystander 04
There was no coup. It was evolutionary. The US, hegemon of half the world before the Cold War ended when the USSR disappeared, filled the vacuum and took the role of unipolar hegemon of the world.
The need to break up regional powers then became the game, the only game.
Pursuit of oil and other commodities necessary for domination was part of the game. Eliminating challengers was the other part.
Normal historical empire development, not a coup.
The coup in the US was 1963, when the MIC assassinated JFK and took the country into SE Asia in a big way. This was the Asian component of containment of Communism.
But the Republic’s Guardians stole the Republic from the People by killing Kennedy, inserting the warmonger LBJ and setting in motion the Liberal Cult of dependence on government (Great Society) and perpetual wars all over the globe. Nixon made it worse by freeing the dollar from gold, Reagan allowed government unions while he attacked the industrial unions, and the Middle Class was doomed.
Clinton to Bush to Obama/Clinton/Biden went on a war crimes path actuating the Rumsfeld-Cebrowski plan Wes Clark speaks about. https://orientalreview.org/2021/05/26/the-rumsfeld-cebrowski-doctrine/
The brief ‘no new wars’ of Trump is now back to the plan with Biden.
Of course, the rise of China and the integration with Russia in a coordinating partnership/alliance has changed the global power environment. The plan is still ongoing, but Russia is seeing to it that it fails.
Larchmonter 445, you are highly intelligent as humanity goes, however I would like to humbly offer a rarely seen difference. The assassination of JFK was not a coupe, it was to prevent a coupe. The people that were in charge before the assassination were still in charge following the assassination. JFK was attempting a coupe to overthrow them and had to be stopped.
I love maps and the stories behind them. They’re worth more than a 1,000 photos. Publication of Ralph Peters’ 2005 map, along with and so soon after the 2003 Iraq aggression, sobered up many, especially vassals and fence-sitters.
It was a fatal mistake.
It helped focus Turkey, Iran and Pakistan, which went into self-preservation mode. The Wolfowitz Doctrine of Full Spectrum Dominance, Brzezinsky’s Grand Chessboard, PNAC, these Pentagon plans boiled down in this map, countless think tank pronouncements – all rank amateur moves made in the heady 1990s. You don’t boast of the crime in advance when taking on billions and ancient warrior cultures willing to die to the last man rather then kneel.
Due to their demented Hubris, they lost the general war before they even set boots in West Asia. Current flailing against the double-helix is the capstone on the farce!
Thank you. You have put in words some of my intuitive feelings about Western Europe. This society is ill, and the media are feeding us venom. It is US policy to erase Europe as a power, and I believe this policy has been successful.
When an occupying army withdraws, groups that were favored by the occupying army fall in disgrace. And when the Americans leave Europe, European society will be turned upside down.
Can you really be happy about the death (by suicide) of European Civilization? There were a lot of wars and a lot of killing, but the beauty (art, architecture, literature), the ideals (Liberalism), and the Scientific development (Newton, Maxwell, Laplace, Heisenberg, Einstein, ………) have no equal in World history.
Love that comment. Thank you. Well put.
When one accepts that EU elites are the puppet masters of the US then everything should be clear.
That links needs to be broken to stop the the ongoing conflicts.
But Russia needs to realize it needs to share its resources with the west in partnership investment operations to put a stop to this ongoing attack.
I was thinking that if the US was not so hostile to Russia, and if the US did not have military bases in Germany, Italy and other areas of Europe, the EU would not have to follow the policies of the US and would be willing to trade with Russia and also to get gas from Russia.(NS2)
But your comment states that the EU elites are the puppet masters of the US.
I do not know enough to contradict you; I need more info.
Why should Russia ‘share its resources? It’s a sovereign nation.
If the world goes by the Western ‘Wild West’ laws, then international law is useless.
Santiago.
EU and the West are not accepting business with Russia for resources.
Ever heard of North Stream 2? Blocked!. Ever heard of all the insane sanctions against Russia?
They broke down their own small and medium business in the West by blocking trade with Russia.
That is how I read the situation with every day putting sanctions against Russia, Belarus, China by this silly EU.
They are so proud of their sanctions-tool they even threathening their own Members winthin the EU corporation.
Russia have said and still say, we are always open for business but leave your silly sanctions outside the shop before entering.
God I am grateful to have found this site. It’s refreshing and gives hope. To read truth and what your spirit knows is clarity and common sense these days are rare. I admit it’s kind of stranging being an American cheering on a so called rival but thank God there’s a righteous force in the world, beautiful Russia, to oppose, to end the evils of America. God bless.
Thanks for that.
To me what feels and is right/moral in my heart is more important than the patriotism of any country, 62 yrs of watching the continued immorality of the ruling class and its masters is enough and has been for quite some time. Everything creates the world around them in some small way and we all must do our part. Even if only in prayers. Change is inevitable.
Navalny will soon discover that his Western benefactors find him more useful as a martyr.
Rússia is leader now in militar field, but USA is still leader in propaganda.
“Meanwhile, for Russians, Alexei Navalny is a well-known personality, but hardly as popular and authoritative as it is customary to judge outside Russia. He made a name for himself as an instigator of mass protests”.
He did nothing of the sort. Yes, he and his followers organized protests, but they were hardly mass protests, as his popularity in Russia is barely 2 %. The last protests he organized were made up by a bunch of kids, which caused more damage to him than benefit. After that all protests ceased. That the West should still back this two bit blogger and fraudster is remarkable. It obviously did not find a replacement, a little Russian Guaido. I am waiting to see who the replacement is going to be. He, no doubt, will end up entertaining the population, as few will take him seriously.
There have been leaks of recent involvement of the Britsh Foreign office puring money into the pockets of the usual suspects.

The third document refers to total of 1.3 billion rubles, which is about $17 million, divided over some 40-50 groups. Nice work if you can sell out your country with a clear conscience.
As for the so called West. It is difficult to sell horseshit to the same group twice or maybe even 6 or 8 times. It seems to me, most Russians are educated and have common sense. I certainly cannot say that about my fellow Americans. Australians need to rise up as well as a number of Western Europeans. I agree with many contributors to this site that the American and European so called Elite are clueless about Humanity. The location of those being talked down to or being sold a bagofshit is immaterial. I have watched and endured this Scum destroying a great country and society, that neither they nor their ancestors played any part in creating or improving.
There are large numbers of Americans who are ready and willing to thwart the actions of the Scum. Let’s pray circumstances bring them together.
The EU would have to disangage from USA’s mandates. Would they dare?
I have a couple of novel ideas. Russia should kick out all NGO’s immediately. Russia should take all of the wealth away from the Zionist/ Russian oligarchs and distribute it evenly to the Russian people.
At the end of the day, the only thing that matters to these folks is money. For the West, it’s the resources that are abundant in that part of the world. If they ever get their hands it, it will be comparable to a gang rape of the country. Its people would suffer beyond compare. And the ones now governing Russia see that. And they don’t want to go down that road. For these “opposition” parties, they see free money coming from somewhere, that they just squander and use for their own aggrandizement. And they are never held accountable for how that money is used. Like this character Nalvany. I have asked my the question about how this guy puts food on the table? And now I see the tens of thousands poured into these groups are just used by those running the show. And they are never brought to the carpet about it. And it shows, at the end of the day, they are just as corrupt as the people giving them the money.
Well thats the road they went down in the 90s with that drunken court jester Yeltsin,Putin stopped them in their tracks, and thats why they hate him,its really that simple.
I was reading on a Russia website that a Russian submarine surfaced off the east coast of the US with 160 nuclear missiles on board. It apparently wasn’t even noticed until it surfaced and left for home. Also on that website, they said that Russia was thinking about deploying the Zircon missiles in both the Black Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. If deployed in the Black Sea, NATO ships would be blocked from entering. If deployed in the Mediterranean Sea, Russia would have the ability to destroy all the European countries at the same time, if necessary. Any truth to these accounts? I would tell you the website, but I don’t know if that’s permitted here.
Yeah, I saw that on that very same site too. Starting with the letter T, right?
That sounds more like an Integrity Initiative puff piece attributed to Russia….160 nukes on one sub….really
Cheers M
No no way a Borey will be allowed to surface near us coast. Consider it can hit it north american targets launching its missiles while submerged just out its homeport in Polyarnji. I bet it is usual fearmongering from usual people.
It’s not, that western politicians now beginn to understand, that there is no popular support for Navalny, they knew it all along. Their open support for him is not for the Russian audience, but for their own in the West. So people ask less questions regarding the politics against Russia. This is valid most of times with most of the supported fifth columnists in any hybridly attacked country.
Spot-On. Reading the British media comments about Navalny in the recent past the Skripal farce, and on the latest situation in the Ukraine, you do indeed get the feeling that the British Government is ‘manufacturing consent” for its own policies against Russia.
I think the general public in the UK does see through the charade…but the boiling frog syndrome is all around us…it is obvious from Parliamentary debates that ‘soft-totalitarianism’ is going to be a fact of life in the UK but the ability to protest is gradually being criminalised.
It could be different….but with a compulsive liar of a clown running the show, what hope is there?
From my observations i am not so sure people do see through the propaganda, ignorance is widespread,i see it every day.
The hypocritical support for Navalny is not for the Russian audience, but for the Western (mostly american) audience.
Exactly !
Eskimos and a few other climate dependent races/tribes will kill seals for food and clothing. I’ve no idea if they club/kill ‘baby’ seals as they are it may be akin to lamb & mutton.
Any other people clubbing to death baby seals abhors me . . . that fate should be reserved for Russian traitors . . . . . . . . . for their own good.
Any country/population today, with all the information at hand, with everything they’ve witnessed/seen (as recently as a fortnight ago with the attempted bloody coup in Kazakhstan, terrorists included ), who would welcome genocidal maniacs into their country, along with all that baggage, is certifiable.
Vote for me and I’ll bring back hanging.
VK is aflame with videos of massive protests in virtually every EU country….
All against vaccine mandates!
Tell me…. Exactly how is NATO going to war….. when it’s cities are aflame???

The West so far can still use their currencies regardless of debt levels. Nato still has a powerful mercenary force plus the ukro “insurgents” their CIA is training. But the key thing here is there is no real will to fight a war in western European countries, nor are they capable of. What this affects is the ability to fight a war after the initial merc deployments are gone. The more east they are deployed, the faster they are gone.
Also, once relations are severed and/or Russia is disconnected of SWIFT, all the trade is halted and EU imports effectively under an embargo, causing unparalleled mayhem. Nato will simply melt away unless DC decides to use nukes.
The function of the government of the United States of America is to serve a grouping that uses the resources of the state to enrich itself and expand its power.
I live in Russia. And I live well. Just leave Russia alone. Navalny is a dummy. Poisoning of Navalny – Russians have not heard anything more delusional. After this fake, it became simply ridiculous for all Russians to hear about Navalny. We do not understand what an unintelligent person you need to be to sincerely believe that Navalny was poisoned by a novice, then sent to be treated abroad. Dear residents of the European Union, please do not allow yourself to be fooled. And come visit us
My sister , my brother and I flew into Moscow before the “pandemic” and took a delightful river cruise on a Russian flagged boat with numerous stops northward to St Petersburg where we toured the winter palace and other delights for several days. I remarked to others on the cruise that it was ironic that back in the mid ’60s I flew “nuclear alert” in B 52 bombers circling over the mediteranian for 24 hours at a time. That was after being in the phased out B47s that we rotated to bases in the UK. in the early 60s. There was no one more thankful that we did not have to “exercise” our mission as the somewhat obsolete B 47s did not have access to the tankers for refueling after exiting the soviet union and we had “safe” areas in Europe we were to bail out in for “eventual” retrieval (ha) : For me one of the most impressive sites in Moscow were the war museums and memorials for the WW2 conflict….truly awe inspiring…..The people were delightful but would not want to mess with the fully armed “week-end” soldiers (that kept flirting with my sister) that we encountered on the delightful and awesome Moscow subways……

There are a lot of Germans who do not agree with their government’s politik towards Russia. They do remember Wladimir Putin’s speach in the Bundestag and are very fond if him. They would rather be related to Russia than to the US.
Will Europe ever put their own interests ahead of Uncle $hmuel’s?
