This is what happens when a bunch of ragged hyenas, jackals and tiny rodents poke The Bear: a new geopolitical order is born in breathtaking speed.
From a dramatic meeting of the Russian Security Council to a history lesson delivered by President Putin and the subsequent birth of the Baby Twins – the People’s Republics of Donetsk and Luhansk – all the way to their appeal to President Putin to intervene militarily to expel the NATO-backed Ukrainian bombing-and-shelling forces from Donbass, it was a seamless process.
The (nuclear) straw that (nearly) broke the Bear’s back – and forced its paws to pounce – was Zelensky the Comedian, back from the Russophobia-drenched Munich Security Conference where he was hailed like a Messiah, saying that the 1994 Budapest memorandum should be revised and Ukraine should be nuclear-rearmed.
That would be the equivalent of a nuclear Mexico south of the Hegemon.
Putin immediately turned Responsibility to Protect (R2P) upside down: an American concept invented to launch wars in MENA (remember Libya?) was retrofitted to stop a slow-motion genocide in Donbass.
First came the recognition of the Baby Twins – Putin’s most important foreign policy decision since going to Syria in 2015. That was the preamble for the next game-changer: a “special military operation (…) aimed at demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine”, as Putin defined it.
Up to the last minute, the Kremlin was trying to rely on diplomacy, explaining to Kiev the necessary imperatives to prevent heavy metal thunder: recognition of Crimea as Russian; abandon any plans to join NATO; negotiate directly with the Baby Twins – an anathema for the Americans since 2015; finally, demilitarize and declare Ukraine as neutral.
Kiev’s handlers, predictably, would never accept the package – as they didn’t accept the Master Package that really matters: the Russian demand for “indivisible security”.
The sequence, then, became inevitable. In a flash, all Ukrainian forces between the so-called line of contact and the original borders of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts were boxed in as the occupying force of territories of two Russian allies that Moscow had just sworn to protect.
So it was Get Out – Or Else. “Or else” came as rolling thunder: the Kremlin and the Russian Ministry of Defense were not bluffing. Timed to the end of Putin’s speech announcing the operation, the Russians decapitated with precision missiles everything that mattered in terms of the Ukrainian military in just one hour: Air Force, Navy, airfields, bridges, command and control centers, the whole Turkish Bayraktar drone fleet.
And it was not only Russian raw power. It was the artillery of one of the Baby Twins, the DPR, that hit the HQ of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Donbass, which actually housed the entire Ukrainian military command. This means that the Ukrainian General Staff instantly lost control of all its troops.
This was Shock and Awe against Iraq, 19 years ago, in reverse: not for conquest, not as a prelude for an invasion and occupation. The political-military leadership in Kiev did not even have time to declare war. They froze. Demoralized troops started deserting. Total defeat – in one hour.
The water supply to Crimea was instantly re-established. Humanitarian corridors were set up for the deserters. “Remnants” now include mostly surviving Azov batallion Nazis, mercenaries trained by the usual Blackwater/Academi suspects, and a bunch of Salafi-jihadis.
Predictably, Western corporate media has already gone totally berserk branding it as the much-awaited Russian “invasion”. A reminder: when Israel routinely bombs Syria and when the House of One Saudi routinely bombs Yemeni civilians, there is never any peep in NATOstan media.
As it stands, realpolitik spells out a possible endgame (see Donetsk’s head, Denis Pushilin: “The special operation in Donbass will soon be over and all the cities will be liberated.”)
We could soon witness the birth of an independent Novorossiya – east of the Dnieper, south along Sea of Azov/Black Sea, the way it was when attached to Ukraine by Lenin in 1922. But now totally aligned with Russia, and providing a land bridge to Transnistria.
Ukraine, of course, would lose any access to the Black Sea. History loves playing tricks: what was a “gift” to Ukraine in 1922 may become a parting gift a hundred years later.
It’s creative destruction time
It will be fascinating to watch what Prof. Sergey Karaganov masterfully described, in detail, as the new Putin doctrine of constructive destruction , and how it will interconnect with West Asia, the Eastern Mediterranean and further on down the Global South road.
President Erdogan, the ceremonial NATO Sultan, branded the recognition of the Baby Twins as “unacceptable”. No wonder: that definitely smashed all his elaborate plans to pose as privileged mediator between Moscow and Kiev during Putin’s upcoming visit to Ankara. The Kremlin – as well as the Foreign Ministry – don’t waste time talking to NATO minions.
Lavrov, for his part, had a recent, very productive entente with Syrian Foreign Minister Faysal Mekdad. Russia, this past weekend, has staged a spectacular strategic missile display, hypersonic and otherwise, featuring Khinzal, Zircon, Kalibr, Yars ICBMs, Iskander and Sineva – irony of ironies, in synch with the Russophobia-fest in Munich. In parallel, Russian Navy ships of the Pacific, Northern and Black Sea fleets performed a series of submarine search drills in the Mediterranean.
The Putin doctrine privileges the asymmetrical – and that applies to the near abroad and beyond. Putin’s body language, in his last two crucial interventions, spell out nearly maximum exasperation. As in realizing, not auspiciously, but rather in resignation, that the only language those neo-con and “humanitarian” imperialist psychos in the Beltway understand is heavy meal thunder (they are definitely deaf, dumb and blind to History, Geography and Diplomacy, for that matter. No to mention they never accepted their defeat in Syria.)
So we can always game the Russian military, for instance, imposing a no-fly zone in Syria to conduct a series of visits by Mr. Khinzal not only to the Turk-protected shady jihadist umbrella in Idlib but also the jihadists protected by the Americans in Al-Tanf base, near the Syria-Jordan border. After all these specimens are all NATO proxies.
The United States government barks non-stop about “territorial sovereignty”. So let’s game the Kremlin asking the White House for a road map on getting out of Syria: after all the Americans are illegally occupying a section of Syrian territory and most of all adding extra disaster to the Syrian economy by stealing their oil.
NATO’s stultifying Stoltenberg has announced the alliance is dusting off its “defense plans”: that may include little more than hide behind their expensive Brussels desks. They are as inconsequential in the Black Sea as in the East Med – as the Empire remains quite vulnerable in Syria.
There are now four Russian TU-22M3 strategic bombers in Hymeimim base, each capable of carrying three S-32 anti-ship missiles that fly at supersonic Mach 4.3 with a range of 1,000 km. No Aegis system is able to handle them.
Russia in Syria also has stationed a few Mig-31Ks in Latakia equipped with hypersonic Khinzals – more than enough to sink any kind of US surface group, including aircraft carriers, in the East Med. The US has no air defense mechanism whatsoever with even a minimal chance of intercepting them.
So the rules have changed. Drastically. The Hegemon is naked. The new deal starts with turning the post-Cold War set-up in Eastern Europe completely upside down. The East Med will be next. The Bear is back, baby. Hear him roar.
Well articulated.
as always…. glad to see Pepe address the Syrian aspect
Putin so forget about what the western hyenas have to say , and take control of the entire western front next to Poland and the entire Eastern part in the black Sea to Odesa his next problems will be Poland and Romania
Both have weapons of destruction also all air planes have to stop over both of these area for inspection before
they can land in Ukraine.
Tom123
Maybe that’s next, bombing Poland and Romania Aegis ashore sites? Its on the list for sure but I think once Ukraine is sorted Syria is more likely. Clean out the vipers nest in Idlib. Kick out the Americans from their thieving of Syrian oil.

Pepe, you are the greatest. Love from Canada, country of slaves.
Aus is not as bad as Canada …. yet …. but I have been commenting ‘I wonder if Putin would be interested in keeping on rolling and freeing Australia’ …. with any luck he would go via Canada and New Zealand
I second the motion! Those in agreement?
From Australia I say aye.
Agree.
Putin should help the freedom fighters end the globalist tyranny in Aust.
This why many Australians sympathize with Russia over the external forces holding Ukraine hostage.
In fact, a friend of mine in Australia inquired with me about approaching Putin over the human rights situation in Australia, with Aborigines being rounded up and force vaccinated. She wasn’t kidding either. I pointed out Putin had nothing against vaccination.
Still, the howling at the UN about human rights in Ukraine right now sounds an awful lot like fingernails screeching on a blackboard to a large percentage of the citizens of western nations.
It will be interesting to see the US response.
It should at least be able to keep the five eyes under its control.
Graeme, you Ozzies should learn from Syria as well as from the “Baby Twins” in Ukraina: the right to be liberated by Russia must be earned. It is not handed out from a cookie jar.
Putin only began to help the Syrians and the people of the Ukraina when he saw that they were struggling unto death to free themselves.
This is because Russia has learned from its experience in WW2, when the Red Army smashed 80% of the Wehrmacht, liberated Berlin, East Germany and the rest of Eastern Europe from the Nazis — and got no gratitude.
“God helps those who help themselves. And God help those who don’t” — The Evangelist’s Handbook
The Australian Federal Police engaged LRADs (sonic devices) against civilians including children during anti-mandate protests in Canberra a couple of weeks ago. There were over 1,000,000 protesters at the event.
“There were over 1,000,000 protesters at the event.”
Not even Bagdad Bob could post something so delusional. 10,000 protesters if you were lucky.
I’m from Australia as well and broadly agree that we haven’t got to the level of Canada yet. It would be great if Putin kept it coming to Australia because the same lunatics in Ukraine exist within Australia.
Indeed, might makes right.

The bear is back baby ! That is so cool!!
Wonderful comment! Thank you Pepe!
One wonders why Ukrainian politicians have been so stupid, selfish and short sighted.
Ukraine, with some clever tactical manoeuvring and diplomatic capabilities, could have had it all. Be a hub for pipelines running through. Cooperation with Russia and cooperation with the West to make lives for all Ukrainians better.
Bot no, they had to side with the stinking, lying, greedy western alliance.
What a tragedy.
I just hope that the cleaning up, which by the way feels so good, will continue in Syria. It is about time to show Turkey, USA and Israel the deep red card and throw them out as well. Maybe the recent meetings between Assad, Miqdad and Shoigu were exactly about that.
It felt good to see Russia act instead of reacting to steps by the west. It’s like everybody experienced in ones personal life that the feeling of not caring anymore what the other side has to say or what the other side threatens you with. You are on top of the world just doing what you feel is the right thing to do.
“Ukraine, with some clever tactical manoeuvring and diplomatic capabilities, could have had it all. Be a hub for pipelines running through. Cooperation with Russia and cooperation with the West to make lives for all Ukrainians better.”
The intention was to destroy Russia, not a better life for Ukrainins.
It is for this reason that the US chose to support the most rabid Russophobes they could find in Ukraine.
The West have a long history of supporting the worst of the worst in order to achieve its advancement.
Putin and Allies are presently cultivating detente among the Wahhabi hordes and Iran. Relations are being nurtured to bring Syria back into the Arab League, to help with the finance and reconstruction. Israel & America are threatening, doing their damndest to prevent this, as this would weaken their hold/influence.
I should mention the late Great General Soleimani work continues. Russian/Chinese support for Iran (who will do the heavy lifting ) is paramount to crush these satanic forces and bring about real and not fake Arab Spring.
Another great article Pepe.

I think this is what President Putin referred to as De-communisation! The Nazi’s wanted it – well now they are going to get it!
The collective West will be seething – no Black Sea base near Crimea – their dreams up in smoke again.
So impotent with rage – they get out their sanctions manuals and try and find the worst they can possibly find to hurt Russia and have a fleeting feeling of satisfaction and power until they realise inflation is going through the roof, they have no energy to make anything, their industries start failing, can’t grow anything and they can’t heat their homes. And the glutinous fat cats in the EU have nothing to do and wonder how long their jobs will be around as it was their so clever idea to sanction their main energy supplier and now have no fertilizer to grow anything. The peasants will be bellowing outside wanting their pound of flesh.
Flee bald eagle and its minions from the Russian bear… Flee bald eagle before your all your pretty feathers pluck. Go bear go!
Nice oversight Pepe. The Hegemon just had it’s bluff called. Most people are angry with Putin because they have never studied the history of this entire great game..But luckily we have you, Andrei and the many links from The
Saker comments over the past years.
So us here have the bigger picture and know Putin is not a rash actor. The next few days will depend on the psychological stability of the war machine controlling Biden and NATO. I hope that it cools but the message has been loud and clear. There ARE diplomatic solutions, always, of course – with sane actors, perhaps this bitch slap just cleared things up for some in the ranks..
I love your style Pepe, every sentence like sharpen dagger!
Regards from Ireland
Pepe that article of professor Karaganov is excellent, thank you for the link. Beside he, has a short article entitled “it is not about Ukraine” that I recommend to read . Cheers
thank you Pepe. You, the saker, Martianov, etc. are gifts from God. In addition to writing well, you make poetry when you write. It’s great to have you on the side of truth. Putin had to do it now: Russia has trained men, they are technologically ahead of the US, and Putin will start to age. This was the time to deal with Ukraine’s challenge and prepare and protect from the empire. Then it would be too late. Knowing the satanic nature of the US, Europe and Ukrainian neo-Nazis, I always said that we would have some kind of war yes in Eastern Europe. It was inevitable. May God help us for His mercy, and let us not have war with NATO too. Probably not. But I don’t trust humanity anymore!
Any existing or conceivable government nearby or with any suspicion or antagonism toward the Putin RF, obviously and reasonably wants the best missile defense available now. They would be retarded not to. I mean, he can hardly talk about them threatening him per se after this. He just blasted a states worth of standing hardware into molecules.
god bless putin & the russian people. blessings, prayers & love.
What will be next in the “military-technical measures”?
Driving the American colonizers and its jihadist allies out of Syria?
Ending USA’s so-called missile defense systems in Romania and Poland?
Increasing the Russian presence in America’s own “backyard” of Latin America?
And how will the USA respond?
The Americans are obviously in a state of apoplectic rage and anxiety right now.
The American Overlord will likely descend further into insanity and violence, as its sense of imperial entitlement to rule the world just got pimp slapped by the Russian bear.
What will be next in the “military-technical measures”?
Τhis, as well, could be next in the “military-technical measures :

LoL. The “very stable genius” Donald Trump knows as much about geopolitics and the China/Taiwan issue as he does about the medical benefits of injecting yourself with Lysol disinfectant.
In fact, Trump is just like Joe Biden; they are both an inexhaustible source of comedy gold.
I’ve seen comments at other websites and social media that the Russian operation is “irrational.”
That’s a laugh.
What’s truly irrational is continually prodding and poking and provoking a bear… then being shocked and hysterical when it attacks.
Many Americans alive today including our leaders practiced fearfully dying under our school desks back when Soviet missiles were stationed ninety miles South of Florida. That we failed to empathize with Russia’s similar concerns for their future safety, instead treating them with contempt, has resulted in dire consequences for Ukraine. Imperial hubris meets Karma.
As one of those American kids that practiced those ‘duck and cover’ drills in school in the 60’s, I remember feeling empathy for my Russian (then Soviet) counterparts, thinking “this is absurd”. We used to call these drills “put your head between your legs and kiss your ass good-bye”, meaning, of course, that when the nukes fly, crouching under your desk just ain’t gonna cut it. I also remember thinking that if the nukes are flying, I really do not want to survive.
Russia has been responding “proportionately” to hostile actors far too long.
It’s high time to respond pro actively in a totally disproportionate way.
Extend the scope of counter sanctions on any hostile country to include cars, motor cycles, clothing, footwear, jewellery, watches, cosmetics, perfume, electrical appliances, aircraft, tobacco, alcohol. Ban the export to those countries of titanium, rare earth, nuclear fuel, rocket engines. Produce those goods at home or buy them from friends, China, India, South Korea, South America. All trade to be conducted other than in dollars in national currencies, or gold.
Any hostile country importing Russian energy to be required to pay in advance, in a specified currency or gold. Transit pipelines through Ukraine and Poland to be closed down permanently.
End the joint space programme.
Ban the airlines of hostile countries from Russian airspace. This would make them uncompetitive with other carriers.
Freeze repayments of existing loans to western banks, placing the money in a blocked account in a Russian bank.
Activate its own payments system with China, avoiding SWIFT. Make this payment system, and other financial structure available to any country targeted by US economic warfare. Iran, Venezuela, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Cuba, Sudan, Myanmar, North Korea, Iran, Syria, Lebanon. A huge bloc in terms of population, land area, natural resources, technology, production and trade, outside the US dominated financial system, virtually immune from any sanctions.
Treat all these other countries as a first line of defence from US aggression. Protect them diplomatically at the UN. Provide them with whatever military equipment they require, at cost. Joint exercises, training, intelligence sharing, GPS, technology. Greatly enhance the defensive potential of those countries.
Ban all hostile foreign media, bogus NGOs and CIA front organisations, and corrupt and compromised bodies like the IAEA and OPCW. Wherever possible, coordinate these activities with the above nations. Discourage travel to the US and its satellites for any reason. Actively prosecute any domestic traitors in the pay of the CIA and their minions.
Break off diplomatic relations with the US at all levels. And with any US satellites and satraps who fail to mind their manners. Limit contacts with them as much as possible. Make it clear that all these measures are permanent and not subject to change.
Re direct tourism to non hostile countries such as Cuba, Thailand and others. Strongly advise against travel to hostile countries, and against holding wealth and assets in those states in any form. Create new sporting competitions separate from western dominated sport.
Hold hostile countries accountable in worldwide campaigns for their history of aggression, human rights record, repression, censorship, and other abuses. Reciprocal vilification and demonisation.
If we are to follow the logic of sanctions announced by Biden it is headed in the direction you have described.
Looks like the ‘Croatian solution’ worked in reverse. Lol.
Mostly a rhetorical question how many times do nations have to be left holding the bag by America before nations trusting them?
The Neo-cons are like someone who enters a cave and pokes a hibernating bear. It is funny to watch the Neo-cons scream that a bear is chasing them. I did not poke the bear and the bear is only chasing Neo-cons. Hard to stop laughing.
Pepe, Nice double reference to “Born To Be Wild” (heavy metal thunder), and maybe to Bob Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Review. I love your work
I wonder if it would come as a surprise to learn that a very large fraction of Americans see the hierarchy in Ukraine as their enemy and the territory as an ungoverned rat’s nest of Globalist Cabal mafiosi. An analogue in American history might be the Hole-in-the-Wall gang and their ungoverned territory of the Hole-in-the-Wall Pass in the Big Horn Mountains of Wyoming 1885 to 1910 (see Butch Cassidy Gang). We say glad you did it and good luck with it now that it’s yours. Das Vadanya & WWG1WGA
Pepe can use this in his next article. “Yankee tried to “wag the dog” in 404, but only succeeded in ” screwing the pooch”. Or better yet, “Yankee dog-ma just got run over by Russian kar-ma”.
@ Pepe
Thanks, Pepe, as always, for your insights into the Eurasian heartland.
In many ways, current events are a vindication for you, you have been hammering the subject for many years. Erdogan wouldn’t be happy looking at the map you show in “The Craddle,” with Turkey as the only “obstacle” for Russia’s hegemony over Eurasia and the ME. Russia’s control of the Black Sea will change the strategic priorities of those countries in the surroundings,Turkey in particular.
Erdogan has joined the chorus of howling hyenas, crying jackals, and squeaking rodents out of fear as he witnessed the rapid destruction of his former “allies,” Turkey’s MIC lost a customer. Erdogan is afraid of Russia, ever after he downed the Russian jet fighter, and was forced to issue a half-hearted apology. The efficiency Russians have demonstrated wiping out Ukraine army forces, should be scary for any country, particularly for those who are in her surroundings.
The Black Sea will be again a Russian lake, and the only power willing and able to dispute that hegemony is Turkey. That will give Russia an space to breathe, and the capacity to threaten NATO from an advanced beachhead, land and sea, the world will be back in balance.
Lone Wolf
Turkey.
It’s all so unnecessary.
Russians love holidays along its coast, enjoy Turkish culture, food, etc.
There was a lucrative market for Turkish vegetables, nuts etc.
Great analysis. It still amazes me how many sheeple in the west are still so badly misinformed!
In addition, I was particularly impressed with the words of General Konashenkov in this YouTube clip concerning the care by the Russian Army of captured and surrendering Ukrainian troops!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWSp-ViHFBw
@Brad Golding
One very positive aspect of the sheeple’s “intellectual capacity” and Russia’s mounting resolve is the combined effect on recent hoaxes: they quickly become uninteresting and then forgotten about. It’s simply a matter of too much noise to process. With the massive, ongoing shift of global power balance taking place in a most spectacular fashion, who gives a **** about Novichok, Navalny, “Putin’s palace” and a whole host of other nonsensical slanders?
Sometimes, I even feel a little sorry for the personified PR disasters such as BoJo and The Stoltenberg. Their media celebrity status is something I don’t envy them in present circumstances.
Great article Pepe! Your analysis and predictions about developments across Eurasia are always spot on. The oppressed peoples of the Global South will be following these events carefully. Their voices will be heard!
An analysis of the East Med would be most welcome! xx
The essence and heart of the “Putin Doctrine” can be summed up in one phrase: “No More Color Revolutions”
The prototype can be seen in Kasakhstan. If color revolutions coming, here come the paratroopers. If that had been done in Maidan, none of this would have had to happen.
Thanks for making me feel happy and optimistic, being surrounded by vegetal parrots here in a minor NATO vassal, Spain.
What are the reparations from the west for the cost and distress to Russia over the last 8 years?
Pepe – many thanks for a great article. However, to say that Ze’s Munich blather was the straw that broke the camel’s back does not fit too well with the thesis of pre-preparation by Russia. Probably more a heaven-sent PR opportunity – I am convinced that the military operation would have gone ahead anyway.
As the Saker has said many times – Ukraine is not the goal. The goal is removal of US military from Europe. Not retraction to pre-1990 levels. That is pulling the thorn half-way out of the flesh. President Putin wants security for Russia and that cannot be while NATO is in Europe.
An EU army would be great for Europeans – all arms would be cheaper and cash spent would bolster EU military firms. Russia is not a threat if not attacked and it is the USA that is the aggressor, reducing European security by its presence.
Syria? Other theatres? Will they accelerate USA out of Europe? Putin is focused.
The best analogy to me is the Gaza Strip.
In this case: Ukraine is Gaza. Except Ukraine is not an open air prison camp and the U.S. is Iran.
The stated goals are identical, de-militarization and both Netanyahu and Putin are claiming self-defense. Netanyahu is much more ruthless in every measure and the U.S. eagerly supports his efforts.
I am not saying that you have to support both or neither, just not use fake outrage and claim that this type of operation is unprecedented.
And in the UK, rt.com is now unavailable – I don’t know if this is a DDoS issue or whether the UK has now banned its output, despite a Minister saying on live radio that it was not the job of Government to decide who can and who cannot broadcast.
What is so pathetic is that when UK nutcases broadcast lie after lie after lie about Covid19, about Libya prior to the bombing, about Israel, about Saudi Arabia, having absolute tolerance for genocide by us and our friends, then they have the crass gall and lack of self-awareness to try and say that actions by Putin’s Russia which are far, far less inhumane than what the West has done the past 20 years are evil and worthy of total sanctions and media blackouts.
There really does need to be a reckoning for all the UK media, all the UK politicians and all the UK Establishment who are committed murderers by moral absolutists.
They don’t have the right to remain in positions of influence, power or wealth and the sooner they are brought to their knees the better.
One must realize those controlling Ukraine since the 2014 and the Soros EU orange takeover you are dealing with the dross the world has ever seen.
These people like the current US administration are deviates of every description.
Corrupt, immoral and mentally – unfit to hold any type of position.
The UK Parliament should take the lead in this condemn the EU and US.
Just regarding R2P, it was not a creation of the US. It was actually the African Union that first raised it and then made it part of their Constituition. It was in response to Rwanda, Srebrenica and Somalia and the genocides and breaches of HR that occurred there and Kofi Anan’s call for States to do better. Then it went to ICISS. Gareth Evans and Mohamed Sahnoun were co-chairs of the International Commission on Intervention and State Sovereignty which held talking groups in many major States with numerous stakeholders. They were attempting to come up with a format that was deemed suitable for an International doctrine and Law.
I am more than prepared to stand up and say that the US absolutely bastardized the concept and used the R2P resolution in Libya to completely screw over everyone involved for their own geo-political ends (if it is sold it must be the petrodollar). But to say it was a US creation is not correct. They just wrecked it as a doctrine through abuse, much like many other aspects of Internaltional Law or Norms they can’t be assed following or seek to be exceptions to. Yes ICC…looking at you.
I’ve been reading Pepe since before AT was taken over and I stopped reading there. I’m a huge fan. I was so glad when we started having cross-posting here. But in this one instance the information needs to be put in its proper context.
Kind regards,
