Dear friends
As you might have heard, there is a hurricane coming very close to the Florida Atlantic coast: Hurricane Isaias
The actual effects of the hurricane are hard to predict, since it depends on whether Isaias will turn to the right or to the left by just a few degrees. This is especially true since Isaias is slowing down to take the right hand turn, which makes it hard to predict the final, actual, location for landfall (assuming there is one).
Still, Isaias is probably going to stay offshore, which means that the folks living on the Florida Atlantic coast will remain to the left hand side of Isaias which, at least in theory, is somewhat better than being on right hand side. Also, Isaias does not seem to pack a lot of punch: Isaias is big (which is better, since it slows down the rotation) and not very powerful (there appears to be is dry air disrupting it).
Bottom line is this: we *should* be fine, but we should not dismiss Isaias since only a few minor changes on some parameters can turn a relatively benign event into something potentially much more dangerous.
Finally, Florida being Florida, there is a very good chance that locations along the coast will lose power and Internet, at least for a few hours/days.
So if I am out of touch or do not reply, please do not worry. I will do so as soon as possible.
Hugs and cheers to all,
The Saker
UPDATE: August 2nd, 1600: Isaias has weakened to a tropical storm and, right now, I actually see sunshine outside. But we will get some strong winds overnight and possibly into Monday. With tropical systems, “never say never” is a good rule, but in this case I am cautiously optimistic :-)
Please DO NOT use this announcement as yet another pretext to discuss COVID. This is both rude and silly.
Thank you!
The Saker
FINAL UPDATE: Florida is VERY lucky – thanks to a (rather uncharacteristic for the season) dry wind from the West has protected us from Isaias. I am happy to report that this was a non-event, at least for us (the Carolinas might still get a real hurricane).
Kind regards to all
The Saker
Sorry lo laugh on such situation, but reading this account of possible turns to the right and left could not avoid smiling at what seemed like a SitRep description of the current US sociopolitical situation….
Grab your longboard and get out to the beach, pronto.
Get milk thistle to prevent cutokine storm Saker
Time to listen
Milk thistle look it up regarding cytokines and viral replication
Get milk thistle or a plague grave it is your choice
I hesitated for some moments whether I would react on this gibberish post.
As one can read, eventually I do. I have some education in fields of biology, so I know that a cytokine storm is an overreaction of the immune system, sometimes described as ‘organ failure’, deadly in most cases (though a friend of mine survived it, the ambulance personnel even did come to visit her in the hospital because they couldn’t believe that she made it).
The immune system is very complicated, and a brilliant firewall-invention of Mother Nature. Don’t mess with that.
Though a cytokine storm can be a result of a serious Covid-19 disease (or a classic SARS), it can be stated that some 80-90% of SARS-Cov-2 infected people have no symptoms at all.
If you get ill, you can get real ill and that is no joke, chances of ARDS, permanent damage as possible result, even without a cytokine storm.
The reasons for the contents of your post is a mystery to me…
Cheers, Rob
COVID-19 has the potential to cause a mild set of symptoms but still damage many organs. I think future ill health in all who contract the virus will turn out to be the reason why we should have feared this disease from the get go, but that is only my opinion and yet to be proved or disproved.
I will not get into defending the use of Milk Thistle as a prophylaxis against the pathologies generated by Sats-Cov-2 infection. It is up to the reader to get off his or her or otherwise fat backside and go do some research for themselves.
I you want to come out the other side of infection by Sars-Cov-2 I would urge you to consider taking Milk Thistle as a supplement in your diet. I consume 150,000 micrograms of the seed extract per day as a prophylactic measure agsinst the pathologies of the infection.
Wishing you well
Sometimes I get the feeling, that places on this earth that look lovely and paradise-like, are also very susceptible to harsh things like hurricanes, floods and the like.
Better be cautious. Like I say in my work, ‘Besser zwei mahl geprüft dann ein mahl verfehlt’ (loosely translated into ‘better checked twice than missed once’).
You and your family: be safe.
Cheers, Rob
Another hoary Spruch on this topic:
“Measure twice—cut once.”
OT, but you never know what emergencies a hurricane might toss into your lap.
Hope the winds are the right speed to ionize the air but not knock anything over.
Storm is headed my way, too.
Katherine
You live in Florida? Ohhhhh….. bad choice!
Get out of the USA… I moved to Mexico.
Stay safe, Saker.
