Dear friends,
I was hoping to avoid that, but after both of my in-laws and my wife, I finally came down with a nasty flu. No big deal, but judging by the time it took them to beat the virus, I will probably be out of commission until the next week-end.
I will do my best to drag myself out of bed from time to time and publish guest posts, but that is about all I can do. My brain is mush, I can barely write, nevermind think or analyze.
My two requests to you are: a) please don’t worry and b) please be patient.
I know, the timing could not be worse, but things are as they are.
Now back to bed for me.
Hugs and cheers to all,
The Saker
Take care !! Get well soon!!
Since I know that you like frogs.
Best wishes from me and the Princess frog.

hot whiskey, lemon, cloves and honey – great for alleviating symptoms.
Also makes you dozy :-)
And happy :-)
Get well soon.
IT WORK WELL WITH BOILED VINE & GINGER TOO…..
Thanks guys for the recipe, I’m in the same mood as Saker, on a way out of it but I’ll try it. Get well soon Saker !
Was going to say same as Eimar, except for hot vodka with lemon. Wow!
Dear Saker, I hope you get better and God be with you.
Bob Marley(the reggae singer) , after being shot, was asked by the press if he was still going to go ahead with his concert the next day; he said ‘ WE cant afford to take time off as long as their is darkness in this world, we must shine on the light’.
Cheers.
Hope you’re feeling good again soon, Saker.
Rest. I spent most of a week resting when I started aching all over. Lots of fluids, and know we’ll miss you.
Get well…most of Uk has had this terrible adenovirus where sorethroat, fever then hacking cough plus head feels like lead mush goes on for weeks, absolutely exhausting , very infectious and re-infectable …can lead to bronchitis-pneumonia…plus apparently the current flu jab is not compatable with any uk flu either………….sympathies for anyone suffering, but still bether than “post trump stress disorder” PTSD………
Be well, Saker.
In school in New Zealand, we used to sing to the lovely Prince Igor chorus, and I’ve searched on line for our version in English, only remembering the first line – could not find it. Here, in my dotage, is my own version – for westerners the music was used in Kismet (I flatter myself that my version is closer to the original, but it’s how I as a kiwi feel these days). Best wishes for a speedy recovery! My prayers are with you, and with Donald Trump as he begins his Aegean task.
Borne on wings
Of gentle breezes
Fly swiftly homeward now
To distant pastures;
Fly home to your mother’s arms
And the warmth of the sunlight
Where softly the streemlets sing
Of places enchanted.
Journey now
To oceans in turmoil
And over beloved cliffs
So savagely rended;
Time has passed
Our childhood playgrounds
Now are gone
The hillsides are changed.
Still we fly on wings of memory
Rememb’ring our younger days
In sun and in shadow;
We fly to our mother’s arms
Where she waits in our memories
Those radiant memories
Eternal and bright.
Thanks Juliana,
Nostalgia begets nostalgia, I guess. When I was in high school (for southern redneck deplorables) I played French horn in both the band and (full) orchestra, and we played the Polovtsian Dances — exhillarating. Again, in the city’s symphony orchestra when I was at state university in the scruffy little river city of Knoxville, TN, I was hired for a pick-up orchestra for a local private college’s choral concert, again having the pleasure of performing the Polovtsian Dances.

The movie (Kismet) version of the lovely melody from Polovtsian Dances from Prince Igor. It was a very popular song when I was about 13 and still is one of the most lovely tunes ever.
Also, here is a good audio of all of Borodin’s music that was used in Kismet. Those interested will enjoy the Kismet storyline (ME political drama), and also the bio of Borodin on Wikipedia — yet another deep-soul Russian genius. There is a tune from one of his string quartets that also became a very popular song. I think it was named This is My Beloved. Borodin was awarded a posthumous “Tony” award for his music used in Kismet.

Dear Saker, didn’t mean to drift off into la-la land, there. Really, it’s all Juliana’s fault. :)
So sorry you feel like crap. When you feel like some light reading, however, I think you will be fascinated by the story of Prince Igor and the period of history it was set in. Just check it out on the Wiki, which despite the many complaints, really is good for some things. Doubt that the CIA has bothered to edit Borodin’s bio or the write up about Prince Igor. : )
Do hope you are feeling better, at least, very soon.
And yes, I do thank the mods and much appreciate how they and you put up with the soulless rhetorical goons who circulate among the webs.
Yes, it’s all my fault.
I do love Borodin, especially that string quartet. Well, all the Russian classics if you come right down to it. Often based on folk melodies or old Russian Orthodox chants. We have more of them in our common heritage than we realize.
Wishing you a speedy recovery and minimal discomfort, Saker !!!!!!!!!!!

Drink some Chaga Tea.
Saker – and others – I find that when I keep my body topped up with Vitamin C, I tend not to get cold and flus, haven’t had any for years and years, except when I got a bad cold about 2 years ago as I had deliberately stopped taking Vit C.
Every day, take about 150mg of Vit C in the morning, and the same again in the evening. Better with rosehips.
You really, really need to go to CVS (or send your kids) and get Cold-eeze.
We take it whenever we have been in crowded spaces like a theatre, or when our body just tells us to. To prevent coming down with something in the first place.
Best taken at the early signs of a cold/flu but does also shorten a cold/flu. And who doesn’t appreciate that?
It contains a form of zinc, which is good for your body regardless.
Oh…it works!
Just be aware if it is anything like what is making the rounds here in California, it has a nasty one-two punch so that when you start to feel better and go back to the usual routine, which I suspect in your case involves overworking, it will roar back with a vengeance. So easy does it for more than a week! please!
Riccola herbal throat lozenges, Elderberry syrup and lots of hydration.
Colloidal Silver!
Drink it every day. If you have a “Pari Boy”, you can inhale it.
Better than antibiotics.
But doesn’t that silver kill all bacteria too, the bad, and the good, especially the intestinal bacteria?
Don’t know about that, but overdoses of CS will turn you blue.
Hence the term ‘blueblood’. The aristos ate of off silver plates and goblets using silver utensils.
My friend’s crazy wife, who was health-fad and occultism-obsessed, actually turned my friend blue.
He was alive when I last saw him, but only 55 years old.
He may not be alive now.
If you can’t think or analyze than dream, feel, and do those things which are not thinking and analyzing — largely in the realm of sleep (which the body likes to do when when healing from being infected).
Have a little chicken soup, a little at a time, with all kinds of different veggies, herbs, and spices for the various nutrients, some olive oil, and little bit of chilli pepper (not to much so throat isn’t irritated) mixed in for the capsaicin and vitamin C — and some grated hard cheese sprinkled on top. ‘Everything soup’. Crock pot (or pressure cooker) time.
BTW — interesting article on chili peppers
http://www.natures-health-foods.com/chili-peppers.html
Chillies have been used as a medicinal plant since pre-Colombian times.
Today, chillies are one of the most widely used of all natural remedies.

For easy, you can always order some hot and sour soup from local Chinese take-out.
B
A man thought he would try a very hot pepper. It felt like his mouth was on fire, so he grabbed a carton of ice cream from the freezer and started spooning it into his mouth. After a few minutes the cold ice cream put out the fire and he sighed with relief. The next day found him sitting on the john in obvious pain, muttering: “hurry ice cream”.
Those peppers do have a down side…
Very hot you have to work your way up, and it’s like dancing — if you try to do when out of practice you are in for a lot of pain. The fat in ice cream helps too, capsaicin is fat soluble, not water.
But peppers are almost addictive, and also psychotropic for me. Gives me momentary flashbacks, like Billy Pilgrim time tripping, but sometimes it seems to some other incarnation. Messes with my brain! The real ambrosia — food of the gods, use with care if you are a mortal.
If you want a little sadistic fun, google on ‘kid eats ghost pepper’.
Seems there was this thing going around with people trying to kill themselves with hot peppers.
“Those peppers do have a down side”…Jalapeños have that effect. But many hot peppers do not, habañeros for instance, though proceed with caution with those. A good green chilé chicken enchilada will really clear the sinuses, as I am sure Saker already knows. And no bad bathroom effects.
Get well soon, Saker. And please don’t let on to the MSM that it’s most likely Putin hiding under the bed, “hacking” your neighbourhood’s immune system
:-)
everyone is due
Saker good wishes
and you are good enough
upfront ahead to take a flu
good beakons are heading
Mundo and his donkey
Sorry to hear the Saker is under the weather. On the of chance it isn’t flu but another viral infection consider getting a flu shot when you recover and next year get one early.
Dear Saker,
Thank you for all your efforts, and I hope you beat that flu in no time!
To dovetail the subjects of illness, and things Russain, I recommend you (and everyone) to investigate the breathing exercises developed by Dr. Konstantin Buteyko.
In my experience, since I started practicing regular shallow breathing according to Dr. Buteyko’s approach (basically just taking smaller breaths until I feel a mild “air hunger”, then keeping it at that level for 5-10 minutes), my immune system seems much stronger, because I don’t get sick even when those around me are coming down with nasty stuff.
Cheers
Dear The Saker,
Please take care of yourself and get well soon. This dreadful bug went through my whole family too before christmas right through to the New Year – very virulent strain.
Lots of rest and all the usual remedies.
and another recipe :)
avoid sugar and white flour (#1 source feeding all bacterial, viral infections), entirely (no bread, pasta, sweets, nothing)
instead lot of light food, greens, vegetables, whole grain and all that (high in nutritional value).
If you want a quick fix though – find some oregano oil drops (but careful with it, read about it before taking it)
Best to put the oregano oil in veg capsules and eat something straight afterwards, as it takes only 1 minute or 2 for the capsule to dissolve enough to release it; drinking it in water – oil & water don’t mix – will coat the cup/glass and is a waste. Alternatively take some bread and put the oil in the middle and swallow, but not too much bread.
Also try olive leaf extract, on its own or together, works very well for me.
capsules, I agree – I use a spoon of olive oil to dissolve 3-4 drops. Never tried olive leaf extract (will do). Oregano oil is something I know and trust – like a Swiss army knife, when traveling we pack oregano, propolis (for cuts and similar), passports, cards/money, else is not mandatory.
I have been on the blog for almost three years and I know you often have the flue, Saker.
Take a look at LCHF, low carbon, high fat. It is a diet that strengthens the immune system.
The body can handle four sources of energy. Proteins, fat, carbonhydrates and alcohol. Carbonhydrates like bread, potatoes are like gas for a car engine, but the engine is not built with gas. The human body is built with proteins and fat. If you drink milk, buy fat milk.
The last time I had the flue was probably in 2012 when I was overworked and had economic worries. Still, eating right is a good help.
Take some Phoenix Tears, it will heal your pineal gland which is the center of your immune system. Saker we all love you, don’t get sick you are not suppose to get sick its preventable. Don’t take antibiotics.
(Whenever someone falls ill, and others pour in with their offerings of remedies and good wishes, I am reminded of all there is to love about humanity.)
I wish you a speedy recovery, too! And I’ll add iodine and baking soda (yes, the regular Arm and Hammer type) to the list of home remedies! A scant tsp of baking soda, thoroughly dissolved in water, drunk once a day on an empty stomach can work wonders. (Got ill in late Aug this year, and tried the baking soda remedy then. Worked for me.)
And I second the Riccola lozenge and Vit C recommendations.
Get some rest and heal up Saker.
Get well soon, relax, “take it easy, but take it” Woody Guthrie <3
hope you are beating the virus missing your thoughts,on the crazy world , get well soon and the rest of your family also best wishes from Wales
Dear Saker :
Echinacea is a good thing to take for colds or flu. It has anti-viral properties, and many people find it to be helpful.
