Interesting interview. Hope he’s right about the Syrian government. Note how Raad mentioned that the same actors who instigated and supported the Saddan Hussein war against Iran are now supporting the terrorists attacking Syria.
Anyone who has seen images from within the Syrian territories either in the hands of the Wahabi goons or the Syrian Army [in the western MSM consistently referred to as ‘troops loyal to Assad’ aka ‘the Marine corpses loyal to Obombi’], knows the country is totally destroyed. After 4 years of onslaught and mayhem, Syria’s debt must be disproportionally phenomenal.
Surrender is not an option. Same as in Ukraine except there is no Russia to run to. I think Hezbollah knows this hence they are helping as they would be attacked next. Once ISIS goons take over and they lay the pipeline, the US wont have any more use for them who will just install some puppet like in Iraq and then these goons will be able to target what ever they like. Russia understands this very well. Air America will be used to move them to attack other countries, China, Russia, India, Iran etc. Lebanon might actually fall or have another civil war. It is not going to be pretty.
thanks Saker, for posting this…it seems very sensible. I hope that these horrible US politicians that are funding the Nazis and the ISILs will be somehow defeated and brought to justice. I have a friend that has said, until 9/11 is ‘taken’ by the good guys and the criminals brought to justice, there will be no justice anywhere.
NIce , I liked the end…”and maybe beyond” for the term of President Assad’s leadership…..I always liked Assad…I guess you can’t tell everything by looks, but he’s such a decent looking guy.
Saker,
i hope everything he says is true: Assad seems to be respected also by the Christian minority, and Christians have taken arms to fight with the Assad’s army, and defend themselves and their families against Isis.
I think in the case of Assad its “the mild dictator you have.Is far better for you than a genocidal liver-eating enemy intent on killing you”.If I was a Christian,Shia, secular Sunni, moderate Sunni,in Syria or Lebanon (they are next if Syria falls) I’d support Assad. If for no other reason then,to save my life and my families lives.
Assad is an angel compared to other middle eastern dictators. He is educated and his wife spent a lot of time in France. Now he is nothing like his father who was one of the most ruthless rulers. And Kerry says he can not talk with Assad someone who is western educated and is more western than any of the thugs he usually talks to. The guy dresses in a suit for gosh sake and his wife appears in western business suit. Compare him to the Egyptian, Turkish or Israel leaders.. The rest are not even on the same planet.
In fact Christians (and other non-Shiites) from Lebanon are also signing up with Hezbollah to help defend their own country from these liver-eating freaks. From The Daily Star:
BEIRUT: Hezbollah is recruiting young Christian, Druze and Sunni men in east Lebanon for the Resistance Brigades to fight ISIS, local newspaper An-Nahar reported Wednesday…
The group has been receiving “thousands” of applications from those wishing to join, according to Hajj, mostly coming from young Christian men.
Unfortunately the Christian’s of Lebanon are not of a consistent opinion.
While Gen. Aoun and his party (Free Patriotic Movement) are generally in accord with Hezbollah (actually part of a parliamentary alliance), the Phalangist element of the Maronite Christians, i.e. those who “invited” Israel to invade in the 80’s and beyond, remains allied with the West, including with the Sunni allies of Saudi Arabia, i.e. the M-14 Group led by the billionaire punk Saad Hariri. Hariri returned from 3 year “exile” in Saudi Arabia just about 6 months ago bearing a KSA “gift” of $3bil for the Lebanese Army.
These Christian Arab fascists of Phalange (formal name is Kataeb), which was created in the 30’s modeled on the Spanish and Italian fascists and remain fascistic to this day, will never cooperate with the Resistance. Hence the Christians of Lebanon are divided. Perhaps if enough of them see the death and destruction that ISIS and al Nusra inflict on their fellow Christians in Syria (and ISIS in Iraq) the balance will swing further towards Gen. Aoun’s party, presently the largest Christian party in Lebanon, and more will join the armed Resistance as you outlined. Lets hope that is the case.
I found this a wonderful interview. It gives me a lot of faith in the ability of the ordinary citizen who is also the ordinary soldier, to prevail against the jackals of this world. Hezbollah seems to do that for me ;)
His view of the situation was so amazingly clear-eyed, I suppose war does that. I loved his responses to the interviewer, who wanted Raad to counter, or at least respond to, various mainstream media views. At first I thought the interviewer (Sami ?) was interrupting too much, but I see he was covering a lot of ground quickly, and he let Raad speak at all times that he was adding valuable perspective. And Raad spoke in generalities, as he said he would, rather than revealing detail, but his generalities covered several paradigms, and successfully I think.
I loved the point that Assad’s personal character and qualities are impressive but even more is the choice and commitment the man has made that make him essential to the process. Why replace a man who is so committed? And whom the people are with?
Also, that the social institutions are still strong in Syria after 4 years of war. Where else in war, when everything breaks down, does one find still traffic police giving tickets? A lovely illustration of the strength of the heart and soul of Syria and its people.
So the take is that Syria’s allies are so allied from their own interests, and this to me makes for even stronger commitments.
And that much of the daily, “Syria gains ground, Syria loses ground” is the idiocy of the media and those who don’t understand war, and that one should look, as Hezbollah and Assad do look, instead at the strategic conditions on the ground. Then one sees that Syria is winning, even though this war cannot end fully until the patrons of the invaders cease to promote the attack
Excellent work, I think, from both sides of this dialog. I would love to see more. Thank you for posting, Saker.
I generally agree with your review of the interview.
There is one notable fact that both the interviewer and MP Raad failed to mention however. While they discussed the intent of the Syrian people, they both failed to mention that democratic elections were held exactly one year ago today (6/3/14).
Not an insignificant fact that proved, at the ballot box, exactly how the more than 10 million of the nearly 11 Million Syrian’s who cast their votes view their President.
Elections that the West, of course, refused to recognize at the same time that they recognized the elections in war-torn Ukraine. Hypocrisy – alive and well in AZ Empire land.
Qassem Soleimani, head of the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Gaurd, just said that something big is coming soon in Syria:
Iranian Revolutionary Guards Quds Force chief Qassem Soleimani has vowed that upcoming developments in Syria will soon “surprise” the world, Al-Quds al-Arabi reported.
“The world will be surprised by what we and the Syrian military leadership are preparing for the coming days,” the state Islamic Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) quoted him as saying, according to the London-based daily.

if I was a guy living in the Middle East, there is nothing I would be more proud of than being an Hezbollah fighter.

I, too, look forward to the unveiling of the “surprise.”
Something tells me that the AZ-Wahabi created ISIS wedge between Iraq and Syria is about to be cut.
