Iran’s Foreign Ministry said Tuesday that it has found traces of US and Israel’s involvement in the assassination of an Iranian nuclear physics scientist. “Primary investigations into the assassination revealed signs of the involvement of the Zionist regime [Israel], the US and their allies in Iran,” spokesman Ramin Mehman-Parast said. Professor Massoud Ali-Mohammadi, a lecturer at Tehran University, was killed by a booby-trapped motorbike blast in the Iranian capital earlier in the day.
Very creatively, the BBC’s report added that “There was also confusion as to whether the attack had any political overtones. One university official said Mr Mohammadi was not a political figure. But other reports said his name appeared on a list of academics backing opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi before the 2009 presidential election” thereby hinting that the Iranian government had decided to blow-up one of its own nuclear scientists.
It might be useful to remember that Iran has recenlty accused Saudi Arabia of kidnapping one of its nuclear scientists and handing him over to Uncle Sam.
Funny how the western press works. There have been numerous stories about how the west (Israel/US) have been covertly hindering Iran by assassinating scientists. But then, when a scientist is actually assassinated, the press is like “how could those paranoid Iranians accuse us?”
Annoying
Not even Stalin killed scientists and technicians who he felt were necessary. I am completely sure that Iranian leaders wouldn’t be so stupid to assassinate a top scientist even if he had any relation with Mousavi.
@Carlo: of course not! you are completely correct. In fact, Stalin kept his scientists in special “scientists prisons” called Sharashkas. Even if we assume that the Iranian government is the Devil Incarnate and the worst, most evil regime in history, all they would do is arrest the guy under some pretext, or even make him disappear, and continue to use his skills. The BBC is just making itself look exactly like what it is: a pathetic propaganda tool for the USraelian Empire. It’s both funny and really sad I suppose. These guys used to have folks like John Pilger on their staff, and look at them now: they turned into imperial buffoons…
Hi Saker,
Slight correction: it’s not all that clear that this guy was a nuclear scientist per se. He was a particle physicist, and it doesn’t seem that he has any relation to AEOI.
