Demonstrations in Skoplje are linked to uncovered evidence that connects Victoria Nuland and her team with the leaders of the protest.
On Monday a group of 50 armed men blocked the Islamic Community building in Skoplje. The attack was a consequence of the conflict between the former Skopje mufti Ibrahim Shabani and Reis of the Islamic Community Suleiman Regep.
The conflict of religious leaders of the Islamic community culminated with the intrusion of Shabani’s armed supporters into the headquarters of this religious community. Shabani, whom Regepi dismissed from position at the recent secret meeting, took over the management of the Islamic religious community by force, and it all started with the conflict around the money. The Islamic community in Macedonia is allegedly without a superior because current management is no longer legitimate. Macedonian media reported that the religious community will be guided by resolved Skopje mufti Ibrahim Shabani, until, it is said, “peace and law are restored to the Islamic community.”
As reported by the Macedonian agency Fena, the blockade is continuing, and Haki Agushi, President of the Assembly of the Islamic Community, which supports Regepi, said that “this conflict must be resolved peacefully and without violence“.
In Skoplje, the fervour around the conflict within the Islamic community hasn’t yet ceased and on late Tuesday evening in the capital of Macedonia violent clashes have erupted on the protests which gathered at least a thousand people who sought the resignation of the government for the murder in 2011, when the Macedonian police beaten a young man to death during election celebrations.
In the riots at least 19 people were injured – 15 police officers, one photographer and three demonstrators. In order to disperse the demonstrators who chanted “Murderers! Murderers!” and demanded the resignation of the government, the police used tear gas and water cannons. The demonstrators threw objects and broke the windows on the government building, overturned cars parked nearby and set fire to several trash containers.
Neskhovski affair
Opposition leader of Macedonia’s Social Democrats, Zoran Zaev, accused Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski for an attempt to conceal the death of Martin Neshkovski, who died in celebrating the election victory of Gruevski. Namely, Nehskovski was brutally beaten by a police officer and member of the special unit, Igor Spasov, who worked as as security during the gathering and who was sentenced to 14 years in prison for this murder.
Yesterday, Zaev released audio recordings in which the Prime Minister and other officials discuss how to cover up the murder. “From the conversation you will hear another confirmation of concealment of truth, and that the killer of Neshkovski comes from the structures of internal security and Gruevski. Dejan Mitrovski Urko, a former policeman and bodyguard of Gruevski admitted that Interior Minister Gordana Jankulovska hid the murder for two days”, Zaev told at the press conference and invited all citizens to join the annouced peaceful protest on May 17, which will “give back freedom and democracy to Macedonia”. “Our struggle is not for power, instead we want to restore freedom, democracy, justice and fairness, and to give the citizens a fair and democratic right to decide who will, in these difficult circumstances, bring the country back to normal”, he pointed out.
Government officials have called the opposition accusations “absurd” and reiterated that the perpetrator of this murder was sentenced to 14 years in prison. However, the publication of audio recordings was cleverly timed and served as a trigger for a wave of violence on the streets of Skoplje. In fact, after hearing Zaev’s appeal and audio-recording of the alleged cover-up of crimes, revolted citizens jumped the protective fence and burst into the courtyard of a government building. Among them was Alexander Neshkovski, the brother of a young man murdered in 2011.
Protest, which initially gathered several hundred people, was annouced via social networks. Among the demonstrators were members of the Neskovski family and initially everyone sat on the stairs in front of the Macedonian government building, shouting “Murderers!“, “Resignations!“, “Come out, Nikola (Gruevski)!“.
The media reported at the beginning of the protest that the situation is very tense and that the citizens are particularly revolted “because the police records the protest“. “The death of this young man has opened, besides the pain and indignation, questions that have not yet closed to this day – which are: why the Ministry of the Interior concealed the murder for days, why the responsibility was reduced to the individual and why no one has claimed the responsibility for the extinguishing of a young life,” said Macedonian opposition leader Zoran Zaev.
Zaev went into battle against Nikola Gruevski’s government with illegally intercepted conversations he had received from foreign agencies and began publishing them in mid-February. These conversations are proof that in the past four years, Prime Minister Gruevski and his associates eavesdropped on more than 20,000 people, including members of the government, the opposition, intellectuals, journalists, and religious leaders.
Media serving the overthrow
Campaign to promote the protests and overthrow of the government of Nikola Gruevski is led by media such as Radio Free Europe, Al Jazeera Balkans and Nova TV, funded by USAID, Netherlands, Open Society and many others from the famous group of donors in charge of “soft power” that prepares the overthrows of the unsuitable regimes.
It is true that a police officer beat Neshkovski to death, but it is also true that there isn’t a slightest possibility that Zaev is led by the concern for the tragic fate of the murdered young man, and his only goal is to overthrow Gruevski.
Unfortunately, for this goal he found the worst possible sponsors, and besides the religious tensions within the Islamic community, the eternal tension with the Albanian minority, whose extremists openly threaten with a secession of western Macedonia, Zaev, in the name of so-called “freedom, democracy, justice and fairness” plays with the destiny of all Macedonian citizens and the fate of his homeland.
Some foreign analysts published a comprehensive analysis about the connections of Zaev with American billionaire George Soros, and Macedonian ‘Kurir’ (Courier) wrote that the moves of the Macedonian opposition leader are dictated exactly by those that don’t wish well for Macedonia. “To large extent, his moves are dictated by Soros’s institute which is financing media work as extended arm of the opposition and it loudly and violently support. Lately, for journalists paid by Soros, set themselves in advisory capacity of Zaev. What is worrying is the fact that people employed by Soros in the media were the ones that for long time advocate for escalation of events and spread hate speech. It is obviously, Zoran Zaev is not able to plan nor his next step. He did not know which way to head faced with the disclosure, the facts, evidence, and confessions.” as written on 20th of April in English edition on Macedonian Kurir. (http://kurir.mk/en/?p=44510)
But let’s suppose that the Kurir is Gruevski’s newsletter and serves for media bickering between government and the opposition. If so, that certainly can’t be said for investigative journalist Wayne Madsen, who describes in detail the background of the arrival of new US ambassador to Skoplje Jess Bailey, who for years worked in Turkey, but also has excellent connections in the Balkans, where his arrival was immediately felt.
The role of Victoria Nuland
Madsen in his analysis ‘Nuland attempts Kiev Version 2.0 in Skopje’ (
http://m.strategic-culture.org/news/2015/02/16/nuland-attempts-kiev-version-2-skopje.html) extensively explains the role of Victoria Nuland, US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, in developments in Macedonia and that the project of overthrowing of Gruevski was decided among American neo-cons, which through the CIA, NED, NDI, Soros’ Open Society Foundation and Freedom House completely dominated the Macedonian social democrats from SDSM. Madsen writes that “Zaev and Sekerinska are said by Macedonian insiders to be nothing more than fronts for former Prime Minister and President Branko Crvenkovski who continues to head up the SDSM and accept large amounts of largesse from such CIA NGO laundry to foment a themed revolution against Gruevksi’s right-of-center VMRO-DPMNE government.” Macedonian police in raids conducted in Skopje and Veles seized five laptops, three desktop computers, 19 mobile phones, 100 compact discs, 17 hard-drives and nine digital books – material that reveals connections of Nuland and her collaborators with conspirators against the government. Madsen writes that, according to the confiscated materials, all of them were connected with the Soros NGOs. In addition, all the bank accounts of a group of people close Zaev were linked with pure cash deposits of CIA.
Zaev actually just speaks of “freedom and democracy”, “human rights and justice” in general, and leads no policy other than destructive one, which has the sole goal of overthrowing the current government. Experiences of Georgia, Ukraine and all other countries that in this way established a new “democratic government” are warning to the Macedonians to think well whom they will support, even if it goes against their traditional beliefs. Many in Macedonia will never suppor VMRO–DPMNE, but they should equally be aware that the Social Democratic Alliance of Macedonia has nothing to do with socialism and democracy, as well as many European parties of that name.

Update by the Saker: here is some footage of the combats in Kumanovo yesterday:
Would it be too much if the author refrained from using the term “Macedonia” when referring to FYROM?
There are plenty of other names to go around than using a disputed one and it may be hard to convince anyone about the wrongs of Ms. Nuland when the author keeps on using a wrong name as well.
Chill out Duck.
Everyone in the region calls the country Macedonia except the Greeks. Don’t think even they call it FYRM in every day parlance. It’s no different than calling Britain (UK) – England, or the Netherlands – Holland… Anyway, as things are going the country might explode in several parts: F – Y – R and M.
As for Ms Nuland, worry not, she’s a fine piece of art.
There was a clash in Kumanovo last nite. Police versus armed group 70 men strong, Albanian apparently. 3 policemen killed… Not good.
Battle still on…

“Everyone in the region calls the country Macedonia except the Greeks”
That doesn´t make the fyromians Macedonians!
A real Macedon is recognizing the hellenic heritage of the macedonian history. Fyromians are trying to distort and de-hellenize Everything Macedonian, and Everything known as hellenic.
Do not hesitate: The Fyromians would take their first chance they would possible have to annex Greece, not alone, but with help from Nato. I would like Greece to leave NATO and EU but I fear that they would use the Fyromian propaganda to help them “unite” “Macedonia”.
So i really don´t care what everyone Thinks about this matter. In my opinion Macedonian are Hellens in every f-cking possible way. And that chryphtobulgarian yugoslavs are not macedonians in any way, not even by the geographical Connection to the geographical Macedonia.
And if you call the fyromian language for macedonian, do you also mean that Alexander The Great spoke a slavic hybrid serbobulgarian dialect of slavic?
Personally I prefer to call Macedonians, Northern Greeks, for Macedonians and the Fyromians for Fyromians, until they will decide what to rename themselves.
+1
The whole “Macedonia” nonsense is also NATO backed, part of the arc of destabilization strategy across the region.
Pre-Nuland but nevertheless very ‘Nuland’…
Macedonians and the tribe called greeks are TWO different things! English greeks in Macedonian language can be pronounced in a few ways: garci (ghar-tzee) – from gar, meaning resin on the chimney (referring to greek original origin from the horn of Africa), or a verb grchi (gur-chee, the sound between g and r as in UGly, meaning growling). And YES, Alexander spoke the language similar to today`s Macedonian! But that in another time…
You`ll be next if you don1t realize who your real (except yourselves) enemy is…
There is no such thing as hellenic origin of Makedonia. Alexander and the ancient makedonians (spelling delliberate) were a thracian tribe, which was recognized by the ancient authors.
Modern day makedonians come predominantly from Bulgarian origin.
I imagine many Bulgarians like yourself wish that this fable were true
You don’t need to believe me. Check the population genetics studies. All Balkan peoples including us Bulgarians are descendants of the thraceans. Slavic and turkic inflows were marginal.

Fyrom? What kind of name is that? Is it like when Prince became this funny symbol, because some jerks in suits had copyrights to his name? (the story is tagged with that letter combination, fwiw)
.. I wonder if we won’t see a more concerted effort on the part of the pigmen to shut down the internet. Or at least to slap controls on the WWW. Because (from the linked Madsen article):
Thanks to the internet, ordinary peons can read folks like Madsen and bypass the co-opted ‘traditional’ media in these places.
Americans are trying to sabotage Russian gas pipeline and Macedonia is the weakest link
Exactly!
Because Macedonia is the link between Greece and Serbia, and Americans are obsessed with not allowing Russia to get to Serbia in any way, especially not via gas pipeline.
They already destroyed The South Stream project, by blackmailing Bulgaria, which basically ceased to be a sovereign nation at that moment.
And now this. The war is starting in Macedonia, totally organized by the Americans.
It is worth noticing that the only countries in Europe where the majority of populations support Russia are in the Balkans. Serbia, Greece, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Montenegro, half of Bosnia are all pro-Russian (not the governments but the people).
I don’t know what can Russia do regarding this.
I think, and I will repeat here again and again, that Odessa must be liberated from the Zio-Nazi junta in Kiev, because only that will send a clear message to the Balkans – that the Russians are back and they mean business!
“I don’t know what can Russia do regarding this.”
The ‘west’ uses what they refer to as ‘forward guidance’.
If Russia and China work fast and they will!,the whole of Asia will have access to Russian Oil and Gas.
The way to stop power politics, like those used by America against South Stream/Turk Stream,is to give forward guidance…….
Existing contracts will be fulfilled, but will NOT be renewed.
Hostile nations e.g. Nato countries will not be supplied at any price!.
Russia and China do NOT need the US and it’s allies,as Larchmonter 445 wrote in his ‘Double Helix’ paper, this is a match made in time for the dissolution of the Empires.
With the new ‘Silk Road’,High speed rail between Beijing and Moscow, the ‘Power of Siberia’ pipeline we are talking about 4 billion brown people linked economically.
Suck it up!….. you yank-pommy wanks f*cked up big time!…
instead of being rich you can advertise bread like ‘Rambo’.
“They used to tell me I was building a dream
And so I followed the mob
When there was earth to plow or guns to bear
I was always there, right on the job
They used to tell me I was building a dream
With peace and glory ahead
Why should I be standing in line
Just waiting for bread?
Once I built a railroad, I made it run
Made it race against time
Once I built a railroad, now it’s done

Brother, can you spare a dime?

It was ‘Al’ all the time
Why don’t you remember? I’m your pal

It’s also admitting of the fact they’ve already lost Turkey and Greece:-) Even if both of them are still formally NATO members.
Unfortunately, Greece remains a colony of EU and US. The SYRIZA government is the same Shit
I have no idea who the good guys in Macedonia politics are, and if one were to judge according to Serbia’s example, it just might be the case that there aren’t any (that are not manufactured or sustained in one way or the other by Empire’s workshop). Both presidents of Macedonia and Serbia were at Moscow today. Somehow the Kumanovo shooting (3 officers murdered, 20 officers and civilians wounded, it has been reported in Serbian media that armed groups were spotted few days prior in the area, but nobody knows who controls them and they apparently came “from abroad”) of today echos with symbolism (showing who is the boss in this area, and the show is not meant just for Macedonians). It is also reported here that Macedonian border guards left the post at border control with Serbia, and that Serbia deployed forces there. Macedonian president Ivanov cut short his visit to Moscow, and Zaev called for a pause in protests until the situation in Kumanovo resolves. An UCK group apparently claims responsibility for the shooting as revenge for maltreatment of Albanians in that area. (http://www.rts.rs/page/stories/ci/story/3/%D0%A0%D0%B5%D0%B3%D0%B8%D0%BE%D0%BD/1913925/%D0%A1%D1%83%D0%BA%D0%BE%D0%B1%D0%B8+%D1%83+%D0%9A%D1%83%D0%BC%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%BE%D0%B2%D1%83%2C+%D1%83%D0%B1%D0%B8%D1%98%D0%B5%D0%BD%D0%B0+%D1%82%D1%80%D0%B8+%D0%BF%D0%BE%D0%BB%D0%B8%D1%86%D0%B0%D1%98%D1%86%D0%B0%2C+20+%D1%80%D0%B0%D1%9A%D0%B5%D0%BD%D0%B8%D1%85.html).
This morning news in Serbia widely reported about the UCK (Kosovo Albanians forces) graffiti that sprung in the city of Kraljevo in Serbia, where there is no significant Albanian presence. That just might be a strange coincidence in itself, but why would an odd even if offensive graffiti be worthy of national coverage?

The 1912 Battle of Kumanovo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Kumanovo), where Serbian army decisively defeated the Ottoman army, begоt a say in Serbia “За Косово Куманово”, very roughly translated as “Kumanovo is a payback for Kosovo”, in reference to Serbia’s loss of its independence to the Ottomans in the 1389 Battle of Kosovo ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Kosovo ).
It appears that the Arnaut ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arnauts ) primitives with the AngloZionist Empire’s assistance are now grabbing away both our Kosovo *and* Kumanovo…

Fighting resumes in Macedonia
May 9, 2001
Web posted at: 3:11 AM EDT (0711 GMT)
SKOPJE, Macedonia — Macedonia’s army has resumed its offensive against ethnic Albanian rebels, as the country’s main political parties struggle to forge a unity government.
The Macedonian military ordered people near Vakcince to evacuate Wednesday morning in preparation for a fresh strike, after earlier pounding the town with rockets and heavy artillery.
“The operation will continue until the terrorists are finally eliminated,” Colonel Blagoje Markovski told the Associated Press news agency. ‘
Please take note of the lingo they use:
‘Fighting” and ‘ethnic Albanian rebels’…
So, 70 people lunch an attack on police with AK47s, hand grenades and sniper rifles and are labelled ‘ethnic rebels’.
Say no more. Been there done that. That’s CNN and USA politics for you.
But the government is pounding their town with rockets and heavy artillery. That sounds familiar from somewhere, too.
And this is the same government that is being opposed by Nuland-backed people?
It is known that pounding towns with artillery only strengthens the resolve and increases the numbers of the “rebels” so ultimately weakens the government. So who is backing or pushing the “rebels” ???? and how is this connected with the infighting in the Islamic Community? which side there is getting outside support?
That was May 9, 2001.
It might be of interest that in 1997, there was ethnic animosity between Albanians and Slavs, both in Macedonia and in Kosovo. At the time, the US supported Albanians killing Slavs in Kosovo, while it supported Slavs killing Albanians, right across the border in Macedonia.
That could be explained by the fact that there was oppression of Albanians in Macedonia, while in Kosovo there was terror by Albanians against Serbs, Croats, Gypsies and Circassians.

It would be good to point out data of Slavs killing Albanians in 1997 in Macedonia, compared with data of other inter-ethnic violence in the region, in the same period.
That could be explained by the fact that there was oppression of Albanians in Macedonia, while in Kosovo there was terror by Albanians against Serbs, Croats, Gypsies and Circassians.
It could be explained by the fact that the West wanted to crush Serbia as a regional centre of power, while it left small and weak Macedonia alone, as it can be crushed promptly at any time.

A good line of thought. The government is extremely corrupt, while the Western imperialism, of course, is the geopolitical chief source of evil. Connecting the dots, I surmise that the Western imperialists have their own people in the government, who, at least sometimes, deliberately provoke anti-government attitudes.
As an honest person, I intend to avoid their ‘Hegelian dialectic’ as much as possible.
Not so fast.

This one is obvious it is to block he Turkish Stream flowing through Greece to Serbia and beyond
Dear The Saker,
Looks like Nuland and Co. had to do it around Victory Day……lets hope the Macedonian Govt. crushes this…..

Hopefully, the Macedonians will kill this “color revolution” fast, before it grows roots.
I’m afraid it has already grown them, there have been preparations for this for more than 6 months at least…
It has almost certainly been putting down roots for years. ‘Twas explained here:

The information war is going full blast already. Perhaps a T-shirt inventory is in order..
I am sorry but I found this account quite confusing with lots of name dropping of people I’ve never heard of. I went to the BBC website (!) where there is one-sentence summary:
“At least five police officers have died in clashes in Macedonia with an armed group from an unidentified neighbouring state, say officials”.
So did these armed groups come from from Serbia or Kosovo? Are they from UCK?
The Macedonian government means from Kosovo, which is possible, but irrelevant, since there is no difference between Albanians in the town of Prizren, Kosovo, and Albanians in Tetovo, Macedonia, 20 miles away. It was a single nation, broken up by an artificial border imposed by the West.
While in Kosovo, under Tito, the Albanians were totally in charge–and were quite oppressive against all minorities–in Macedonia they had very serious grievances.
The insurrection of 2001 was certainly led by locals, and it’s unlikely that the situation be different now. There have been demonstrations against the construction of damaging dams, financed by Western institutions.
Why are you lying?
“The insurrection of 2001” was nothing more than a NATO invasion! Same with this one!!!
Why assume I am an enemy?
NATO countries financed the UCK in Kosovo as they killed Serbs, Gypsies, Croats, Circassians, Goranci and even Turks or Albanians.
At the same time, the US-EU supported the regime that beat to death Albanians.
NATO countries are involved in most coups and terror plots, but here they had no reason to set the Albanians fighting against their favourite chauvinists, who are still in power.
CIA men came in to break the siege of Arachimovo–the regime was shelling the city, to the delight of the crowd watching the show; it was just great when the mosques got hit and the minarets came down.
The US arranged the withdrawal of fighters out Arachimovo, and the US-EU brokered the Ohrid deal, that brought the Albanian terrorists (or freedom fighters) into the government.
So, no reason for NAtO to support another insurrection.
matt janovic on May 10, 2015 · at 5:08 am UTC there is no difference between Albanians in the town of Prizren, Kosovo, and Albanians in Tetovo, Macedonia, 20 miles away.
From those who have regular contacts with Albanians, I always hear about significant cultural differences between the Albanians in Kosovo, and those in Western Macedonia. In turn, they both differ from the Albanians in Albania, which in turn are divided on a North-South axis, a division that led to an egregious internal crisis in Albania in the mid-1990s. The said differences make the idea of Great Albania idealistic and hard to achieve on a permanent basis.
It was a single nation, broken up by an artificial border imposed by the West.
By an artificial border, you apparently mean a border between Macedonia and Serbia. This border was ‘imposed’ by a Yugoslav, Communist-dominated government in the 1940s, and supported by Moscow. And it was popularly affirmed in 1991 with little propaganda from the West.
The main difference was that Albanians in Kosovo in the 70’s and 80’s had their own Albanian university; they had full autonomy, were intolerant, and knew one language.
Albanians in Macedonia instead were multilingual, and were getting pushed around, just like Serbs in Kosovo.
The border within Yugoslavia was irrelevant, like the border between NY and NJ. It was normal to walk across it. It was the West that organised hatred and the break-up of the country. There was no massive popular movement for independence in Macedonia, Bosnia, Ukraine, Belarus, etc. Still in 1990 the majority in Croatia did not want to end Yugoslavia.
However, the rules of democracy require that those who spend more money, must win at the polls. So, after a year of daily Two-minute-hate, “the people” consented to break up the country.
Breaking up Yugoslavia was the first project of the ‘new’ post-1989 NATO; i.e. the NATO that had to re-invent itself (or die) once its raison d’être had disappeared.
A second step was to support the Kosovo Albanians – not the good citizens but the KLA mafia.
And a third recent step has been investment via ex-KLA in the invention of Greater Albania, against the inclination of Albania, and various Albanian populations across the region.
Kosovo is the toxic HQ of this plan. And the aim has been to create an arc of destabilization across the Balkans, divide & rule.
I agree that in 1989 NATO needed a new purpose; I agree that NATO regimes profited from the destruction of Yugoslavia.
However, they have all the wars they need right now; new tasks have been invented for NATO in the Middle East, in Africa, and in the Ukraine. So, I doubt that any NATO regime consciously works for a Greater Albania, because that would certainly disrupt the NATO alliance.
The KLA is another division of the CIA Foreign Legion.

Interesting!
Latest update: Six police officers (5 Slavs and 1 Albanian) are dead, with 30 or so injured in the fighting that took place in the Albanian district of Kumanovo, between the police and armed Albanian Nationalists. The fighting continued for over 15 hours and the armed Albanian group lost 5 men, while 30 were arrested. They are now described as local and foreign ‘UCK fighters’ by the local authorities. This means that the regions of FYROM, Bosnia and Kosovo are about to ignite once again, with UCK returning to act on the behalf of its sponsors. Moreover, certain Albanian nationalistic circles are planning to create the ‘Great Albania’, from Sarajevo in the north till Preveza in the south and Vlora and Corfu (!) in the west to Bansko and beyond in the east, while officially claiming via the Albanian Foreign Affairs Ministry the whole of the Ionian Sea Shelf and its riches for their own! Will they succeed? It remains to been seen. But I believe the usual Nuland-led Saudi-sponsored Islamistic extremism side of this is a far less dangerous ideology than the new breed of Albanian turbo-nationalism which surfaces and becomes more dangerous by the day.
@Roda: The Greeks call the country ‘Skopje’, the historical name for the region since the Ottoman era (up until the Cold War, when Marshal Tito switched the name to accommodate claims of ‘reunifying the whole of Macedonia’, i.e. conquering Salonica). The City of Skopje has the same name as the historical name for the region. And we don’t believe or accept neither that Alexander the Great ‘was in fact Alexander Filipovic, an ancient Slav king’, nor that the Iliad was written by an ‘ancient Turk’ named Omer for that matter.
As for the rest, you are so right. The country is being liquidated by its former sponsors as we speak. It happened by sheer coincidence at the same exact time Russia signed an agreement with Greece to construct South Stream v2.0 to move Gazprom’s natural gas to Europe from Turkey through this new area of conflict. Or at the same time that the US Ambassador in Athens is being replaced a year earlier in time. Should we have a Great Albania in any size blocking the way, Nuland the EU F*cker and the US win this round and split the Balkan Peninsula in two.
Serbian Military Analyst Miroslav Lazanski predicted the Kumanovo incident on April 24th in an interview with Belgrade daily Kurir:
“The Turks already got a great deal, Tsipras will agree, Serbia will make substantial amount of money from it. Then we have Hungary’s Orban who has also agreed. Once again you have Russian gas to Austria. Washington is not pleased and do not want to see a second Russian pipeline through Europe. Macedonia was selected as the weakest link out of the group to destabilize and prevent the project. Which is why you see their opposition protests and guns for hire out of Kosovo who are handsomely paid to cause disturbances in Macedonia” stated Lazanski.”
Good thought, but if you work to destabilize, you do not send men in uniform, all you need are repeated and safe attacks on police patrols. A few men who take territory can be easily crushed. The insurrection focus is the strategy of idealists, not of paid agents.
The Macedonian language was codified by Kyrill and Method, possibly modified for writing according to prestigious Greek and Latin models, and then rolled out, at the behest of Byzance (and sometimes even Rome), in the course of centuries, as the medium of the Holy Writ and the Light of civilizational progress, across various ethnically disparate populations that had not yet been christianized and had not yet achieved the cilizational level of Christianized Europe.
The ethnicity of these populations is manifold: Various Eastern Germanic tribes (Poland, Czechia, Russia, Slovenia), Finns, Sarmatians (whatever that is), Iranians (Yugo countries), Turk (Bulgaria), and various others, beautifully mixed, as attested to by the popularity of their girls.
Today, we call these people the “Slavic peoples”, because that’s what we call their languages, based on a handful of ancient texts speaking of “sklavenoi” etc.
We might also call them the Macedonic peoples because that’s what their language is based on; just like we call the French, Italians etc the Latin peoples; and just like we call the various ethnically disparate populations of the Maghreb and the Middle East the Arab peoples.
You can see a pattern here where languages are brought to populations by religion or superior culture.
The account of whoi and what is considered Macedonian is a result of a lack of education. No insult intended but honestly with contributions like these I have to laugh. There is only one and only Macedonian race and that is the of Hellenic Origins. Full stop. Anything that goes beyond this is a result of propaganda and brain washing and a lack of a will to know thy self!!
At the time of Alexander, Macedonian princes claimed to be Hellenes, but were not accepted; other competitors tried to exclude Alexander from the Olympic games. To be allowed to compete he argued that the royal family, according to legend, came from Argos. He was rich and powerful, and so he was allowed in. It is not even known what was the language spoken in Macedonia; certainly it was not classical Greek.
That is quite common: the sons of mountain tribesmen, want to be part of the stronger culture of the plains’ cities. Even when they may not have any real connections to that stronger culture, even if the plains people see the mountain people as uncouth primitives, whose parents speak with a funny accent.
Admiration of foreign culture was traditional in Russia, where the nobility followed the fashion of speaking French in the 1800’s. Even today, in Russia, some in the intelligentsia desire subservience to Western culture, which they perceive as modern and superior.
So, both Greeks and Macedonian Slavs have a rightful claim to Alexander, and to those ancient irrelevant glories.
“So, both Greeks and Macedonian Slavs have a rightful claim to Alexander, and to those ancient irrelevant glories.”
Please stop your ignorant nonsens:
“Ancient Macedonian was the language of the ancient Macedonians. It was spoken in the kingdom of Macedon during the 1st millennium BC and it belongs to the Indo-European language family. It gradually fell out of use during the 4th century BC, marginalized by the use of Attic Greek by the Macedonian aristocracy, the Ancient Greek dialect that became the basis of Koine Greek, the lingua franca of the Hellenistic period.[4]
The volume of the surviving public and private inscriptions found in Macedonia, indicate that there was no other written language in ancient Macedonia but Ancient Greek,[5][6] and the recent epigraphic discoveries in the Greek region of Macedonia, such as the Pella curse tablet, suggest that ancient Macedonian was a variety of the North Western Ancient Greek dialects.[7]”

Athanasios is right, the Macedonians used the Greek alphabet for their coins, and they had no other written language. However, they were so UnGreek, that the Greeks saw them as βárβaroi; even though a pupil of Aristoteles, Alexander’s Greekness was challenged.
Similarly, my grandfather’s grandfather was a Slav, saw himself as a Slav, but wrote in Italian; that was the language of culture then, on the coast of what was the Austrian Empire and became Yugoslavia.
In Illyria, the local languages were replaced by the conqueror’s language, Latin. In Macedonia, the old language was replaced by Greek, because it was cool to be Greek. The locals were not killed, they were assimilated into the Greek and Latin cultures.
In the first millenium, areas of today’s northern Greece and southern Macedonia, were conquered by Slavs, and Greek was replaced by a Bulgarian dialect. The local people, Macedonians and Illyrians who had become Greeks and Romans, were not killed out, they were assimilated by the conquering Slavs.
Luni, you need to go more to school and learn some history.
:)
Do you have any source for this info?
I don’t believe any of it.
The only part of this I don’t get is, why do the Americans have a problem with the current government? I mean, near as I can make out, it’s described as basically corrupt and right-of-centre. Americans love that kind of government. What has the incumbent failed to give the Americans, that they want?
Turk Stream.
Macedonia is the best path to take the gas from Greece through to Serbia and then north to Hungary and into Austria (where the largest storage tanks are). The current Government is seriously interested, because it would bring them good income.
The EU is being pushed to get “energy security” by not being dependent on one supplier (Russia) although other sources (eg LNG from USA) would be much more costly and not sufficient quantity; other direct gas supplies (eg Israel) are going to be years before they’re producing. It is clear who would benefit, at EU’s expense, if the pipeline for Russian gas can be sabotaged.
As a sideline, probably all parties involved hope that Russia can be conned into feeling sorry for Europe, on humanitarian grounds, and continue to supply gas through Ukraine even when the Turk Stream is ready to Greece. This would get them their gas with no further expense building a pipeline, while providing transit fee income to Ukraine, reducing the losses EU and USA have to bear on keeping Ukraine afloat.
Anyway Macedonia is the weak link in the planned pipeline route, so that is the target for destabilization. If the current government gives in and refuses the pipeline, then all the trouble will magically cease.
Ah, thank you. That makes sense.
It is not Makedonia which is the target ! It is those uppity Greeks cosying up to the Russians !
We can’t allow it !
Dear Saker
Thank you for the article about Macedonia and what is going on behind the scenes.
I have been reading the saker everyday since the Ukrainian crisis began and it has opened up my eyes on the propaganda that has been waged on the donbass people.without people like you we would have seen false information and possibly genocide in the name of democracy by a fascist regime.what went wrong for the macedonians in the war in 2001, their was no opposition to the msm and what was believed that Albanians were fighting for their democratic rights in macedonia but their was a lot more to that fight.(maybe explained another time)

The Greeks should be worried about the Albanians in Epirus. Albanians are the ones in the Balkans that are actively attempting to annex territories to build a greater Albania.
