Odious shale gas deals in Donbass or “market forces” at work:
In late January 2013 when former President Yanukovych still was in power, the Ukrainian government and Royal Dutch Shell inked the country’s first major shale gas 50 year profit sharing agreement. Shell plans to develop the Yuzov field in the Donetsk and Kharkiv regions. In June 2014 the company confirmed its intention to go on with the agreement as soon as the conflict gets de-escalated and the situation stabilizes.
[…]
The territory to be explored is 7886 square kilometers, including Slavyansk (situated right in the heart of deposit), Izium, a major part of Kramatorsk and a large number of smaller populated areas like, for instance, Krasny Liman, Seversk, Yasnogorsk, Kamyshevka etc.
In accordance with article 37.2 of the agreement, the local residents have to sell their land and property. In case of refusal they are to be coerced to do it to serve the Shell’s interests. The company’s expenditure is to be compensated by Ukraine at the expense of produced gas. The government takes on responsibility for finding a solution to all the problems with local authorities.
“Containing” Russia by spreading “freedom” and “democracy” in Azerbaijan:
For such a small nation, Azerbaijan has a disproportionately large foreign-funded “civil society” community. Clearly, US and European interests in civil society are not dictated by perceived injustice or the number of people whose “freedom and democracy” are “at risk,” but instead by the geopolitical importance a particular nation serves within which their “civil society” organizations work to influence various political developments. In Azerbaijan, the US National Endowment for Democracy (NED) alone has over 20 ongoing projects (on record) and many more not listed on their official website.
NED activity in Azerbaijan ranges from monitoring elections, to so-called “rights advocacy,” to the development of Western-leaning media and “journalism.” Foreign-funded election monitors and “rights advocacy” that consistently find themselves fighting the government of Azerbaijan in defense of other foreign-funded members of the country’s civil society community raise serious questions about the legitimacy of their work, with the foreign funding alone constituting an alarming conflict of interest.
There is also the small advantage of its geographic location:
As a potential member of NATO, [Azerbaijan] would be sitting on both Iran and Russia’s borders, allowing for it to serve as a safe haven for the same sort of proxy invasions being conducted from Turkish territory against both Syria and Iraq. For now, Azerbaijan cooperates closely with NATO, including having sent troops to participate in its occupation of Afghanistan, and having collaborated in NATO’s involvement in Kosovo. According to NATO itself, Azerbaijan is subjecting itself to a series of “reforms” undoubtedly aimed at eventually integrating the country fully into the military conglomerate.
The goal has been ethnic cleansing for years, quite openly. Check out this article from February by Graham Phillips, titled “Insane Ukraine” where the meaning of the term “lustration” in various Svoboda programs is examined and dilucidated. This is a very instructive read to gauge the extent to which insanity has been institutionalized in those parties. It contains plenty of links documenting what it claims.
[…] Writing on the Svoboda official forum in 2010 is a man alleged to be Tyagnibok himself, posting under a pseudonym –
“To create a truly Ukrainian Ukraine in the cities of the East and South, only one lustration will not be enough, we will need to cancel parliamentarism, ban all political parties, nationalize the entire industry, all media, prohibit the importation of any literature to Ukraine from Russia…. completely replace the leaders of the civil service, education management, military (especially in the East), physically liquidate all Russian-speaking intellectuals and all Ukrainophobes (fast, without a trial shot. Registering Ukrainophobes can be done here by any member of Svoboda), execute all members of the anti-Ukrainian political parties…” […]
ETHNIC CLEASING AND GENOCIDE FOR FRACKING IN DOMBASS
Saker, rest assured that in the proper moment Putin will send the Russian army in the Ukraine. You know why?. There is a *double* existential threat to Russia.
The first one, already known, the estrangement of Russian territory by the USA, USAN bases and missiles, as well as the NATO (a USAN tool), and a Nazified neighbour gone wild and trouble-maker.
The second one, less known than the former, has to do with fracking in East Ukraine, being located the main focus precisely under Slaviansk. As Russia is dependent on the selling of raw products, mainly gas and oil, she cannot gladly accept those crazy plans. Sometimes we hear “she can shut the spigot down and teach the Europeans a lesson”. Well, she cannot, or better said, can only do it just for a short period of time, absorbing losses. A longer period would mean the Samson option, i.e. no gas sell –> not enough food on the table.
———> It should be good that some Russian speaking fellow commenter would translate this article into English, so that we all could pass it on, and on, and give it the maximum exposure it deserves:
If anyone thought that the Ukrainian oligarchs had already plundered the whole of Ukraine, he was wrong. Its soil and sub-soil had been missed by them… till Yanukovich came to office.
But more guilty than them are the European and USAN oligarchs and corporations and their endless greed. The american regime and the European politicos’ hands are soaked with the blood of the Ukrainians. This is what makes the war criminals in the fascist Junta feel so confident while they’re acting with total impunity. Who would dare sending them to the Hague, when above them their puppeteers are none others than the European and U.S. elites?
Now, till someone translates the article above, I’ll dare to post a summary of it:
Yanukovich government signed a contract, to last for 50 years, with the Royal Dutch Shell for the shared exploitation under favourable conditions of the Yuzovsky gas field, located in the Donetsk-Jarkov areas.
Other corporations involved in the project are, the Ukrainian EuroGas, partially owned by the british Mc Callan Oil & Gas (UK) Ltd, which is itself owned in part by the (USAmerican) “Euro Gas” and “Burisma Holdings”. This one hired oligarch Biden’s son, Hunter. Oligarch Biden is the current vice-president of the United States.
According to artícle 37.2 of the treaty, the people residing in the area MUST sell their property, and in case they refuse, they’d be FORCED TO DO IT IN expenses of the company in the exploration area will be supported by the ukraynian government at the expense of the produced gas. FAVOUR OF SHELL CORPORATION.
All the After the ethnic cleansing is complete, plans are to install 80.000 to 140.000 wells. This means the destruction of cultivated areas, the destruction of industrial facilities, the destruction of residential buildings, the destruction of religious buildings … while maintaining gas infrastructure facilities on a land stripped from its residents. This area of 7.886 sq. km, includes the city of Slavyansk (located in the center of the field), Raisins, most of the Kramatorsk, as well as hundreds of smaller settlements: Krasnyi Lyman, Seversk, Yasnogorka, Warbler and others.
Suppression of the resistance of Donetsk and Luhansk and the establishment of control over this territory would then facilitate, in the opinion of some, to cut off Russia from the significant part of the European gas market. Experts suggest that the “showdown” will be held in the fall of 2014.
It is significant that the NATO Secretary General A. F. Rasmussen, speaking on June 20 at Chatham House in London, already accused Russia of plotting to disrupt the production of shale gas, and in the US Congress on may 1 was the draft law, entitled Act on the prevention of aggression by Russia in 2014.
Thus, it is the desire to maintain control of transnational corporations over the deposits of the Dnieper-Donetsk area has turned the war against the people of Donetsk and Lugansk in a war of annihilation.
Mass extermination of civilians, creating an atmosphere of fear, forcing people to leave home and become refugees, have been the main tool of realization of the interests of TNCs for which the government established in Kiev after the coup is just a decoration for the cover of a Grand ethnic cleansing of Russian and Russian-speaking population of Donbass.
Oh, I see the article by Olga Chetverikov has been translated into English already, and the link is posted above by Bakunin, l7h39. Thanks a lot.

I’d also repeat a paragraph of the second part I posted some minutes ago, because I think some words have been moved when I had to part it in two.
It is this one, that shoukld read as follows: “According to artícle 37.2 of the treaty, the people residing in the area MUST sell their property, and in case they refuse, they’d be FORCED TO DO IT IN FAVOUR OF SHELL CORPORATION.

Tsarev: all young men aged 25-35 being arrested in Slavyansk
MOSCOW, July 06. /ITAR-TASS/. The Kiev authorities are arresting all men aged from 25 to 35 in Ukraine’s southeastern city of Slavyansk, not bothering to find out whether they were members of self-defence forces or not, speaker of the parliament of the Union of Lygansk and Donetsk People’s Republics Oleg Tsarev told the Russia 24 television channel on Sunday.
“Overnight, they arrested all policemen and took them out of the city. They are arresting all young men aged from 25 to 35, not even trying to find out whether these men took to arms or not. Searches are underway. They are trying to find those who helped take care of the wounded,” he said.
This is no longer a protest movement. Its not a “color revolution”. US supported Maidan apes aren’t overthrowing a corrupt US abandoned oligarch and his gang of looters. Its a war and
” a new Nation that intends to span from Kharkov to Oddessa and Transnistria births itself.”
FWIW an analysis of the current situation by Yuri Romanenko (a Ukrainian political analyst) that seems to be in line with outcomes that appeal to supporters of the fascist regime in Ukraine.
His summary:
—
Residents of Slavyansk and Kramatorsk can finally sleep quietly. Poroshenko received intermediate victory, which you can demonstrate how your success. Militants DND went from Slavyansk unharmed with halo “heroes of new Russia”. Putin is happy intensification of the conflict, which allows you to manipulate its European partners and which takes weak Kiev more resources. Merkel and Hollande are looking for any pretext to achieve peace at any cost, because they do not want to quarrel with Russia. Any price means, at the expense of Ukraine. The US rejoice that Russia deeper links in Ukraine, putting along the old torn clothes “evil Empire”. Ukraine to the USA is not an absolute priority, but the more viable it will be, the higher the chances of Washington to beat Russia in the long term. China is happy that he is all right and everyone had forgotten about him. It looks as if everyone is happy. And when everybody happy, then can they be agreed? And if they agreed, and somewhere by the end of next week should be a position for negotiations. Why by the end of the week? Because should be provided, which legalizes the negotiations. And what are these conditions? Well, for example, fierce resistance fighters in the city. Or destroy the militants and, consequently, the conditions for political dialogue”. Or disappearance of the militants and, consequently, the conditions for political dialogue”. Something like that.

IE there will (or could) be dialog after the militants are destroyed or disappear.
It’s a pity Novorossiya didn’t rise up when the Soviet Union collapsed and Banderastan was created. Would’ve been the right time to do it as the state was in its infancy. Too late now as Putin obviously is not keen on intervening directly & NATO will supply these fascist critters with sufficient military aid to wipe out the rebel/NDF forces. Plus it seems to me like apathy reigns, even in Donbas. They obviously dislike the Ukie junta & its troops to a large degree but not enough to actually rise up en masse. The coming economic struggles, fuel shortages, etc may wake them up, we’ll have to wait & see.
“But I don’t think the threat of sanctions and a new cold war are what’s holding Putin back. No, he is another hard hearted empath. He knows that Novorossiya must be forged from fire if it is to survive. They must want it and be willing to fight for it themselves.”
I have to agree with this. The Donbass people have to be prepared to fight, and show they are 100% behind Novorossiya. To show they want freedom and responsibility. Otherwise it will become a quagmire.
A further comment about the article by TTG where he writes ” I believe he [Putin] is content to provide covert support as necessary, push for a real ceasefire and political solution, and bide his time as a new nation that intends to span from Kharkov to Oddessa and Transnistria births itself.”
The window for a political solution may be quite narrow. The blogger Rusty mood writes (auto-translated) “Kiev junta is well aware that everything they had done in Ukraine leads to economic collapse and explosive growth of discontent of ordinary people. But how to deal with it, how to get to respect those that are in authority scoundrels, thieves, swindlers, the Nazis and murderers? Of course, in a country where the laws do not work, and the police turned into an appendage of the Nazi gangs, the only way remains Goebbels propaganda and terror against dissatisfied. But how to do it.”
Parubiy expects a new wave of planned destabilization in 8 southern and eastern oblasts of Ukraine in September-October. The oblasts are Luhansk, Donetsk, Kharkov, Dnepropetrovsk, Zaporozhye, Kherson, Nikolaev and Odessa. Anyone who complains about lack of food and takes to the streets to protest will be deemed an agent of Putin, subject to terror and repression.
Unless the Nazi regime can be brought down before then, the people in the south east better start sorting out which way they want to go and pronto. As well as military preparations, the militia should be looking into political education, let people know what is coming with the IMF austerity package, the Nazi cleansing and terror packages etc.
“But I don’t think the threat of sanctions and a new cold war are what’s holding Putin back. No, he is another hard hearted empath. He knows that Novorossiya must be forged from fire if it is to survive. They must want it and be willing to fight for it themselves.”

I would agree with this except that it isn’t just about Ukraine. It’s a Russian national security issue. Russia is the target. This is why so many are becoming frustrated with Putin’s seeming inaction.
For all this talk of Neo-Naziism to me it seems more like a revival of ‘tried and true’ Neo-Boshevism. Yagoda would be proud. When I consider the events in Slavyansk – Dier Yassin comes to mind.
>>>>>>>>>>>Yonatan said…Hmmm, it seems some kind of bomb went off when the fascist militia entered the SBU building in Slavyansk. Perhaps someone was in a hurry to leave and accidentally left something behind.
Did you notice the red armband on the guy on the right? We saw those in Odessa, no?
“Yanukovich government signed a contract, to last for 50 years, with the Royal Dutch Shell for the shared exploitation under favourable conditions of the Yuzovsky gas field, located in the Donetsk-Jarkov areas.” (ltr 18:37)
A most plausible basic explanation, imo. Royal Dutch Shell has been moving its investments out of Australia (into $cash) for the last 6+ months. They are scenario planning experts and usually move 6-months ahead of the game. The classic move which shifted them from global 7th to 2nd ranking in 1973 was ‘engineered’ (foreseen) by Pierre Wack their chief scenario planner. (Google Wack and “scenario planning”; “shooting the rapids”; or “Harvard Business Review”).
Remember recent big smiles with Shell’s CEO and Putin shaking hands? This is about ‘Big Oil&Gas’ not ‘little houses on the prairie’.
Was Wack ‘off with the fairies’ mediating in Saudi Arabia, Indian temples and Zen monasteries when not at his desk in Royal Dutch Shell? Or was he working ‘below the radar’ on making his scenarios (and Shell’s business strategies) come to pass?
It’ll never be known publicly (although data on insider trading of that era would help spot a conspiracy) — but it is a safe bet to assume that wherever Royal Dutch Shells goes, the blood also flows (see Shell & Nigeria … and Ken Saro-Wiwa).
“@ PWW said… Fracking will never satisfy energy needs.
Within 12 months, the averaged tracked well production drops by nearly 80-90%. That’s super-sustainable isn’t it?
lol”
My worry: it doesn’t have to be sustainable in the long run – economically or environmentally – for it to be useful in starving Russia of revenue. It just needs to work long enough.
FWIW when I looked at fracked gas years ago one of the few “benefits” of it is that the production profile is initially high but also, and more importantly, predictable. As easy conventional targets disappear the near certainty of the return starts to look more attractive.
Beyond that the early high output allows for “to da moon” growth predictions that create the kind of valuations that can make management very rich.
A way to think about it might be: the fact that the idea that we can IN AGGREGATE get rich selling each our houses is LAUGHABLE from a long term perspective doesn’t mean that a lot of people can get rich in the short term facilitating the bidding up of prices. (In fact, the inevitable crash is a feature not a bug. It’s an opportunity to short and then buy distressed but essential assets at massive discounts.)
I am not saying I know the ROI of fracked gas in UKR justifies the above nauseating strategic finance plan just that anyone relying on the “unsustainability” of it is likely to be disappointed.
To understand a looter you’ve gotta think like one.

I still think he knows what he’s doing.
For all this talk of Neo-Naziism to me it seems more like a revival of ‘tried and true’ Neo-Boshevism. Yagoda would be proud. When I consider the events in Slavyansk – Dier Yassin comes to mind.

Did you notice the red armband on the guy on the right? We saw those in Odessa, no?
Fracking will never satisfy energy needs.
Within 12 months, the averaged tracked well production drops by nearly 80-90%. That’s super-sustainable isn’t it?
lol

Oh, and on top of it all, even the Rand Corporation is getting into the act.
