Stuff is happening fast. First, Interpol has now issued a “red notice” to have Julian Assange arrested, and now Wikileaks is loosing its main website and mirrors.
I still have no opinion about whether Wikileaks and Assange are for real or not, but if they are, the White House is being very very dumb about how it deals with this issue. If Assange and his friends thought this thing through, there will be literally thousands of mirrors and file sharing sites distributing all this stuff in days, including plenty of “insurance files“.
More to follow soon, no doubt.
UPDATE: Wikileaks is back online in Sweden (thanks to L. for this pointer!)
I would have thought it makes more sense for the authorities to feed a load of fales information to Assange so as to discredit Wikileaks
This would be a perfect intelleigence operation, relasing 99% of chicken-shit infrmation, and 1% of deliberate black misonformation which suits the USA’s agenda; and which naive leftists then spread around as if it is holy gospel.
@Robert: 99% of chicken-shit infrmation, and 1% of deliberate black misonformation
That’s exactly my feeling so far.
@Saker. I think you are getting overly paranoid here. All human output has a considerable non-real element to it, else it wouldn’t be human and hence it wouldn’t be… for real. If elements of the US establishment opposed to the current permanent government crowd are involved in this, well then they must have an ‘agenda’. Everybody has one. David Bowie is the only man who ever fell to earth. All others have previous history.
I fail to see what (current) official US imperialist agenda could be furthered by this document dump. The stuff on Germany and the Middle East, especially Turkey, seems very much for real, and so far does only one thing: shut up the Obama/Change narrative for good.
in any case, they are carefully leaking the non-information to the press (Medvedev-Putin) and are cherry picking the stuff they don’t mind (Iran is the bad guy). I am sutre the foreign intelligence services are analyzing the stuff. So far, it looks to me that the US intelligence has been quite naive and its diplomats are believing their own propaganda. And like you yourself say in your blog, 99% of the information thye consider to be secret is public anyway.
@Guthman: I think you are getting overly paranoid here
I don’t think so. Mostly, I am very unimpressed by these so-called “leaks”. As for the rest, I am only reserved, that’s all.
Gorbachov Crony Threatens Wiki-Attack on Russian Leaders

There is one interesting leak.
The West knew about Saakashvilis aggressive plans, Wikileaks insists
http://english.ruvr.ru/2010/11/30/35999968.html
It would be interesting to see what it actually says if they knew about the attack and let it happen or if they organised and planned the attack like Operation Storm against the Serbs give the amount of evidence at the time to support the latter (MPRI, massive shipment of weapons to Georgia prior the attack, NATO drills, NGO’s organised planned protests in Spain, Balkans and Israel that failed to materialise, etc).
Russia off course has all this info but never released it. Why?
Anyway I still think the whole thing is orchestrated seeing how major newspapers were contacted to cover it before the release yet we are to believe there is not a coordinated effort by British and US intelligence to intercept, monitor or intercept the info?
And we know The Guardian and the New York Times has some connection to the establishment.
I don’t think they would also be so braven as to charge files against him or attack his website so publicly more covertly pressure would be used.
What I think happened is that he was probably a hacker like reported in the media arrested and charged for trying to access government files and websites and the US government made a deal with him to dismiss the charges in exchange for him being a front man for a psych-op intelligence front.
The whole rape charge and DOS attacks are probably part of a “Legend” they are creating for him just like the created a fake “Legend” with Atta creating a background narrative that is totally at odds with the real Mohammed Atta.
The leaks in and of themselves aren’t impressive, but they do confirm the pervasiveness of the imperialist mindset and what Carl Schmitt termed friend and foe thinking, not in some dark corners, no, at the supposedly most congenial and wordly levels of the US regime. Or rather this thinking goes a step further even than Schmitt: to the state department anyone who isn’t a perfectly trained lapdog is a foe, friends don’t exist for the empire. This will disillusion a lot of people, who still, in spite of everything, had considered themselves friends.
Apologize for breaking in with a different topic… but Stuxnet fascinates me, and is a Pandoras box opened up.
Good explanation:
http://www.symantec.com/connect/blogs/stuxnet-breakthrough
Stuxnet and it’s future clones can do severe damage and will cause costly countermeasures in a variety of industries from power plants to semiconductors.
Actually, no, i take that back: the leaks are extremely impressive in that they confirm officially what had been suspected and talked about for years. They are not game-changing in what they reveal, but they are game-changing in that it’s official. I just went through a whole bunch of them on Lebanon, and, yes it’s pretty much as one would have imagined, but these are the official cables no-one can run away from now.
