This morning there are three huge developments to report.
First, RT reports that:
At talks in the Belarusian capital, the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics have urged Kiev to acknowledge their autonomy within Ukraine, but said they wish to remain an integral part of the country. LNR and DNR representatives urged the Ukrainian government to end their military operation in the country’s east so that parliamentary and local elections can take place freely. “The president, government and [parliament] Verkhovna Rada should accept… decrees granting immediate recovery from the humanitarian catastrophe, acknowledging the special status of the territories under the control of the People’s Republics, creating conditions – first of all stopping the ‘anti-terror’ operations – for free elections of local authorities and MPs,” the document with the republics’ position reads. The document also calls on Kiev to guarantee “the right to use the Russian language at an official level on the territories of the People’s Republics.”
I will write an analysis of this position later today
Second, the Ukie forces near Lugansk have abandoned the airport which is now in total control of the NAF. This info is confirmed by video footage taken today.
Third, there are very intense battles around the Donetsk airport which is now considered “contested” and neither side is in full control of it. This indicates that the airport will most likely fall under full NAF control in the next 24 hours max.
Elsewhere, the NAF have shot down a Ukrainian Su-27. This is significant because the Su-27 is a heavy long range high speed high altitude interceptor and not at all suited for slow speed low altitude close air support missions. The fact that it was shot down indicates that the Ukies have practically lost their entire close air support aviation. Two helicopters have also been shot down today.
Stay tuned, I will keep you posted.
The Saker
At this point im confused because the president of dnr said there will be no negotiations because dnr/novorossiya is its own country now in the press confrence on the 24th.
im kinda hoping that this is what the osce offerd and has been mistaken as the dnr/lnr point of view from the meeting.
IMO they have come too far, lost so many civilans and heroic men in this struggle for freedom from nazi/capitalist/u.s puppet kiev, they fight for not only them selfs but for freedom in every corner of the world by showing that there is still hope for men to creat there own destiny, so im praying they havent settled for anything less.
if it is true i hope this is a ploy
regards to all of novorossiya
Neutral observer here. No, the major news should be the rumors that Kolomoisky has threatened to blow the Zaporozhya nuclear power plant if the NAF goes any further outside Donbass.
That is something that not only deserves its own headlines on blogs like this (whatsamatter, not important enough a topic to warrant a full post? It’s not as if you’ll be giving right sector ideas) but also needs for Russia to call a Security Council meeting over. The single issue that worries people most in Ukraine is not whether they will be visited by right sector thugs, but whether the US neocons are prepared to conduct a scorched earth policy in the event it can’t have eastern Ukraine.
Why can’t someone report here on the wind directions out of the various nuke power plants in Ukraine? Will dust blow over Russia or back over Europe like Chernobyl did (did a number on Poland)?
This is the biggest worry now.
Another thing is you guys are woefully inactive in the comment sections of major political discussion forums like DailyKos.com where hardcore neoliberals are carrying water for the neocons in the comment sections of those who are otherwise trying to stop the warmongering but just don’t know enough how to discuss the situation.
Barely anyone posts on major American political forums with any knowledge about Ukraine. They just repeat what CNN or FoxNews tell them and then make a narrow range of opinions ranging from “War with Russia now because it will be worse when they get to Berlin” to “we need more serious sanctions” which constitutes the extreme anti-war position.
The antiwar people in the USA are unable to explain, for instance, any rationale for Putin’s further existence. The best argument for that, which eludes them, is about Ed Snowden: he may have been a traitor to Americans, but no reasonable American should be happy about the fact that 99.9% of supposed liberal democracies around the world (all but one country) were unable to decide on their own whether or not to provide Snowden asylum from being forcably repatriated back to the US. We all know that no democracy has voted honestly on the issue. QED America has most of the world as vassal states and only Russia was and is standing in their way as the sole power on Earth that can decide on the life and death of an American who might seriously disagree with his government on an issue they want kept secret.
The neocons really do expect to get Snowden back as soon as their plans for regime change succeed. To them it is a matter of principle that nobody whom they really don’t like can get away from them anywhere on Earth.
At the end of this stupid war, shouldn’t the russians look at the material losses with some trepidation?
USA rarely gets planes shot down, and their DU armored tanks area a lot more durable than all the tanks in the Ukraine theater, which seem to go up like roman candles when hit.
After everything that happened there is not reason to stay united as a whole country. The militias have to fight for their independence, Kiev is not reliable and economically is at bankruptcy. Too many deaths to accept this submission.
FFS: This is a head scratcher. Say it ain’t so.
Why, when you have Candyman Porky over a barrel crying in his chocolate mixer?
Or is it that the Kiev junta is not expected to accept their demands?
Ah, but would the Kremlin accept autonomy for the Donbass in exchange for the Ukraine joining NATO and the EU (as a slave, not a member)? Then what? After all, federalization and all that is really about keeping the country neutral and economic deals with the southeast, not protecting the rights of Russians and Russian speakers, who seem to count for very little in the Kremlin’s eyes.
In any case, one imagines that these proposals are to try to provoke infighting or to embarrass the supposed moderates in the EU when it fails.
I’m surprised and sad that after so much pain and suffering Novorossiya is planning to remain as an integral part of Ukraine. Something isn’t right here. I’m very impatiently waiting for the Saker’s take on this news. Perhaps this is all to do with the fact that the west will not recognize Novorossiya?!…
It seems a bad choice to accept federalisation now when RNR has pretty much broken the ukie army.
As it stands now RNR could probably advance to Kiev and certainly to within the regions of Novorossiya..If the war continued… But if DNR accepts federalisation, the Ukranian army will be flooded with arms from NATO and get traning and the opportunity for victory will be forever lost… The oligarchs will remain and will get control of RNR again, and even more nazists will get into power because the president will appear to have been defeated by the Novorrosiyans..
Perhaps this was why strelkov was sent away, he would have refused to negotiate, and Moscow wanted someone in place they could control.
I really think federalisation would be a loss, that would have been ok a few months ago, but now after all suffering and just when the oligarch-President is facing a political crisis it seems like a real downsell.
PM Zakharchenko has some words with captured soldiers before letting them go:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0qJU0pL-WoE
He seems like a serious leader.
…they wish to remain an integral part of the country
WHAT ?
Novorossiya is an “IDEA”, It cannot be !
FREEDOOOOOOOOOOOOM !!!
There are some who already gave life for, and now this – F**k Ukraine !
The interesting part is the: “Acknowledging the speciall status”. This may meen anything from Acknowledging the name through making it into somethig like Krymea was to comlete independence in all but name.
Also there are two more points, firstly, this are hardly all the conditions and all of them are a bit vague. Secondly, noone expects this to be accepted immediatelly and you can always make changes later, now the most important thing is showing that they don´twant to fight even if they are winning, and that they want to negotiate (while winning, taking back lsot cities and pressing thus Ukraine to accept almost anything).
Pure speculation here but is it possible — given that this is what Putin has been calling for all along — that whatever assistance Russia provided has been contintingent on autonomy within a federated Ukraine? It really would be the best possible outcome for Russia, as well as everyone else in Ukraine except maybe the nutcake Banderites we’ve fostered and supported all these years. Who imnsho should be given back to Poland and then the whole of them fenced in until they either self-destruct or regain their sanity. (No insult intended to all of the decent Poles: we’ve got the same damned problem here! It’s just that at some point this kind of nonsense really does need to be brought back under control, preferably by a truly just legal system and societal norms holding such scum beneath contempt.)
Neutral observer:
Good comments about Daily Kos etc. America is going to have to purge itself – a blood purge – like Ukraine – to get to a point of reality-based discourse beyond what the neofascist, false lib/con dichotomy discourse that currently exists. There will have to be a New America.
Paul II:
I believe this is a smart negotiating position designed to buy time and catch Kiev, who will not accept it, because then Odessa and Kharkiv will demand special status, etc. Russia wins no matter how Kiev responds and Novorussia can say, one more time, “you refused to negotiate” . . . if they accept it, it’s still no guarantee that greater Novorussia can be repressed, it just changes the time scale of events. Pretty soon Russian and eventually Chinese aid and investment – is going to be more attractive than EU and US austerity. Maybe Kharkiv and Odessa can be won with economic war alone.

Stricly O/T but if anyone is interested, I left a few more URLs at the bottom of the Ferguson thread.
This is wrong.
You cannot do it. So many Novorossiya souls died for what ?
It is betrayal !
Perhaps those warnings of new sanctions worked, and Putin’s wish has to be enforced now regardless.
I hope it is just a talk, otherwise it will be the saddest day for me.
Regarding losses of Russian-designed equipment by the Ukie Army vs. the quality of American equipment, two points:
The Ukie army is badly trained and uses its equipment foolishly, thereby suffering heavy damage.
U.S. equipment has not been tested against the well-trained army of a major power in decades. The U.S. typically targets primitive countries without air forces. air defenses, or armor and heavy artillery. The target countries normally respond with guerrilla-type light weapons and IEDs.
American M1A1s operated by the new Iraqi Army ™ fell like ninepins in Northern Iraq when they ran up against Islamist insurgents. First rate equipment in the hands of an incompetent army are just as useless as piles of junk.
Neutral observer,
I’m interested in your observations but how can we discuss rumors if there are no sources? Any links you could provide to expand on what you’re hearing (e.g., about Kolomoisky) would be welcome.
@Anonymous 13:03
As far as U.S. weaponry goes, one the rebels have military training which is the best non-NATO grade training and late Era Soviet weaponry and their opponent is thrown together units of thugs and conscripts.
Tanks work with infantry to scout around the tanks because there are antitank weapons. Even the famed German blitzkrieg protected the tanks. The French’s main problem was they didn’t have enough anti tank weapons at any point of their defense to handle a column of tanks, but if you have enough weapons, the treads can be knocked out. The Ukes appear to be lining up the tanks and moving forward formerly convinced of their invincibility without infantry support or air cover for a rapid reaction.
As for the American experience, the Iraqis largely withdrew against overwhelming air power in ’91 and really didn’t fight in ’03. The Taliban was a bunch of religious thugs fighting run of the mill thugs, not freedom fighters as much as guys without enough legal cash to get out of dodge.
Elements in the Pentagon haven’t leaked tales of failed war games in Iran or Kerry not understanding planes aren’t invincible for fun. They did it because they know dug-in, irregular forces are a threat to all but the highest flying planes which aren’t effective against small units. Drones can go against non-industrial foes, but the Iranians seem to be able to at least crash them through electronic means.
Perhaps there is a Russian power play aiming at conserving the whole of Ukraina in it’s sphere of influence. A isolated and independent Novorussia means that the rest is lost. A semi-autonomous Novorussia within Ukraina alters the nature of Ukraina itself.
There must be a hope somewhere that “Kiev” again could be a “prorussian” city. Why should the Devil have Kiev?
(Of course, easy for me to say all this, I, a Norwegian, who see this from afar without being personally concerned)
Dublinsmick has both mirrored an excellent piece by James at Winter Patriot,
http://winterpatriot.com/comment/reply/921
and an *absolutely must-watch* subtitled video of people in Novogorod Wolynski confronting their military leaders regarding what happened to their conscripted men. Although they showed little concern for the residents of Novorossiya, it’s still pretty rough to watch their anguish and rage.
http://dublinsmickdotcom.wordpress.com/2014/08/31/the-ukraine-per-winter-patriot/
The deal is obviously for western consumption.
They will look bad if they order Poroshitko/Waltzman to go on, with even, necessarily, fiercer violence and crimes against humanity. Novorossiya will stay Novorossiya in all but name and will not only keep the Banderastan, Nazi part out of NATO and Hunter Biden out of fracking, but also get Novorossiya into CSTO and the custom union as well as establish a Russian/CSTO peace keeping force to keep it that way and prevent any future Nazi pogrom.
This will probably also encourage the rest of Novorossiya all the way to Odessa to officially become part of it.
Obviously, non of this will happen. Nudelman, NATO, Posroshitko and the €Urofags will look bad but keep on pushing and eventually loose it all. Either way Novorossyiya will be free, the only question is how much more lives it´s going to cost..
Mikhas.
what this might be is a Ruse similar to ones Putin has been using all along that sort of dialectical thing where you present something you know is not gonna work just to show a certain intent and face to the rest of the world and then when it fails (just as you hoped and planned) you procede with your actual plan.
So what if the rebels are presenting this very seemingly rational and compromising proposal only to show to the world that they are rational moderate folk who just want some semblance of autonomy blah blah blah……but in actuality they know deep down that even THIS will never be truly accepted by the nato/u.s. puppet masters running Kiev. And as such, when the proposal falls through or is not accepted, the rebels now suddenly have carte blanche sort of justification (and more support in the world community) to continue their march on Kiev.

Here are some news ABOUT Ukraine.

Hi all
This is what I get from their decision to remain part of Ukraine
If Novorussians remain part of Ukraine then Ukraine will never be part of NATO
Thus negating the Americans another base at Russia’s border
I would rather see Novorussians independent and forming a land corridor all the way to Crimea
And rump Ukraine a land locked asylum of nazis and raving freaks the size of Latvia
With the current Kiev government, the moment the NAF put down their weapons, or lower their guard, or even take a break, Kiev will try to crush them. It has become clear over and over and over that the Kiev regime cannot be trusted at all. It would be like trusting that a hyena will refrain from behaving like a hyena after scratching something on a piece of paper.
Nothing short of complete autonomy and complete control of its own armed forces and police can be accepted. It’s far too late for a united Ukraine.
Anonymous 12:50
The ill-defined ‘Plan B’ I have seen refers to blowing up the hydroelectric dam at Zaporozhye itself should the city surrender to the NAF. If that did happen, the concentrated surge in the immediate vicinity would be very destructive, but the river basin widens enormously immediately south of the river. This would reduce the surge height somewhat but it may still be sufficient to flood the nuclear power station site some 90 km downstream at Enerhodar. That said, this is not an experiment I would like to try!

#DNR / #LNR want autonomy, their own military forces & the right to join the Customs Union in return for remaining formally part of #Ukraine
@ Anonymous 13:03
I think that you are missing some important facts:
-The Ukies are using their tanks and planes in a very incompetent, almost suicidal way
-America didn’t fight a decent enemy since WW2 (remember that the US lost in average 5 Sherman tanks in order to knock out a German Panther or Tiger tank)
-Russian weapon systems are definitely superior to Ukrainian ones (T-90 vs T-64 tank or Su T-50 vs Su 27 fighter for example)
-If confronted by modern air defense with very long range and counter stealth capabilities, like the Russian S-400 Triumf, the US air force would suffer heavy losses. The Novorossiya air defense is rudimentary in comparison.
-Quite a number of US M1 tanks were knocked out by the Iraqis in 2003 and even more Israeli Merkavas by Hisbollah in 2006.

Saker: The only long-term strategic game that I hope Putin is playing is that he doesn’t just want 1/3 of Ukraine, he is aiming for the whole of it by controlling the political developments from within. Otherwise, I don’t understand the flip-flop. Why fight and shed so much blood to ultimately capitulate to the enemy by having Novorussia remain within Ukraine. If the former, then Putin is cleverer, bolder, than even I had thought. He will go down in history greater than Bismarck, at par with Peter the Great. If the latter, then I am afraid he will have disappointed many of us and will simply prove that no fights US/Nato. Your take and analysis please. Thanks.
What ?
Last video I saw was those 2 military uniform guys telling us the federation option was no longer on the table and that novorossia would be an independant state…
http://en.ria.ru/russia/20140901/192528955/Crimean-Court-Seizes-Kolomoiskys-Property—Reports.html
Finally someone takes on an oligarch
For financing terrorism. Now you know why Mr. Israel wants to blow a nuke plant if he loses his “southern plantation” to the rebels
I think neither the owners of the transatlantic Fourth Reich who stand behind the Kievan junta nor the hard core Nazi element within the junta, whose goal is centralized monoethnic state on the territory of the artificially created Soviet entity called Ukraine nor the “old enemy” (Germany and the ethnofascist statelets on the old Soviet periphery) nor the EU apparatchiks would consent to the autonomy of those People’s Republics or even acknowledge their existence. I for one believe that the best long term option of Russia is total dismantlement of Ukraine and breaking it up into states which bear no reference to Ukraine in their name. Novorossia must be independent.

Maybe something to do with a fact that USA only attacks small, helpless countries without an air defence?

Israel thought that their Merkavas were indestructible. And then – they met Hezbollah …

The armed forces of Novarossi ready to go to Kiev
01.09.2014 – 14:26
Alexey Brain, one of the leaders of the armed forces of the Luhansk national Republic (LNR), said that the fighters are ready to go to Kiev and to overthrow the oligarchical system in the Ukrainian state. About this Brain said at a press conference in Yalta, reports news Agency REGNUM.
“We are in talks never go with the Kyiv authorities, this crime… Our ultimate goal is the overthrow of the oligarchic regime in Kiev and the creation of new Russia”, – said Brain.
Paul Gubarev in an interview also talks about this…

Really, autonomy?
Ukraine remaining as a whole is what USNATO demands and ‘the whole’ includes Crimea. May I add, apparently, this plot for Crimea was long underway. Betcha.
Months ago, I read that as early as September 2013, U. S. Department of the Navy had requested tenders to repair a school in Sevastopol only to be withdrawn/cancelled in April 2014.

This is a geopolitical move, by having autonomy to conduct business relations with foreign states and veto power to reject Nato expansion into Ukraine is equal to Putin winning the jackpot. Think Bosnia and the Dayton accords, and the Republika Srpska powers of veto. Now think with Russian resources after half a decade the standard of living in Russian autonomous compared to the other areas, and which way will the people sway? I love watching Putin play chess.
This is OT on this post, Saker, but I was wondering if your friends are still accepting donations to help the refugees, and if they know of any ways I can send donations of clothing, toiletries, etc. to refugees in Russia. There is a Russian Orthodox Church in my area but I can’t find any information if they are taking donations for Ukrainian refugees.
The last update from your friends helping the refugees was in June and I was wondering if there is any way I can help from the USA.
Thank you for your work.

I don’t see the logic in capitulation when you own the battlefield, which is what these proposals seem to be. The linked article does state that the proposals aren’t expected to be accepted, but it’s still a strange position to go on record with.
With the NATO summit in just a few days, the biggest worry I see is Ukraine being granted some special status that would allow for direct NATO intervention.
I don’t see these proposals doing anything to avert that. Actually, I have expected Russia to recognize Novorossia as independent, which would give NATO pause.
Really, why pussyfoot around anymore? The rebels are winning, Kiev is in a panic and there seems to be no end to the EU and ANTI support for these Nazis. The lustration law is particularly odious, the assault on civilians well-documented, yet the IMF throws the junta more money and the EU wants to add more sanctions to Russia.
To accept remaining in Ukraine would require ‘backing up the bus’ in a major way, which would have to include war crime hearings that would implicate the top level of the junta. This won’t happen. End the charade before NATO has a pretext!
Amazing how they flushed the Polich mercs out of their spider holes. Flooding the bunkers
Can anyone answer 2 queries for me
1. What is the situation north and east of Mariupol Brad a Cabana said the NAF were in danger of being surrounded
2. Were American mercs and CIA captured near Mariupol over the weekend
In my opinion, The Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics have adopted this position because they do not expect any meaningful breakthrough at these talks. The Ukrainian government, advised by the Americans, will continue to insist on total disarmament of the anti-Kiev forces before any susbstantive negotiations on constitutional reform can take place. The Ukrainians will therefore not accept this opportunity to save face and their country because the Poroshenko government will not want their weakness/impotence to become obvious to the nationalist, Russophobic base back home.
That’s a very stupid position for DNR & LNR if they agree to it: as if any agreement(s) will be respected by the zionacis?! Haven’t they learned anything by now? Even more so if Russia is pushing this behind the scenes, & is candid about it.
The best thing for DNR & LNR is to continue with the military successes while paying lip service to the ideas expressed by Russia, whereas Russia should talk the talk & walk the walk, i.e., support DNR & LNR to complete the victory over the zionazi regime in Kiev. No opportunity of this kind will be available to Russia in the future, & if squandered on a fake “peace,” Putin riscs to live the fate of Milosevic.
W/out the military gains, no argument would have been heard from the people of DNR & LNR; for them, a total ethnic cleansing – like the one of Serbs from Croatia & Kosovo – was in the pipeline, & nobody from the zionazi-controled West cared about that.
In short, zionazis gambled & put all their bets on the military victory, & they lost. They should be dealt with in the very same manner. Everything else will lead to their regrouping & renewal of the attacks in the coming Spring. Fascists don’t give up until totally defeated. End of story!
As for the Kolomoysky’s threat, nothing surprising from a zionazi. Yet, IMHO, it’s a bluff; as evil as he & his ilk is, they are fully aware of the consequences of such a terrorist act. I wouldn’t give two cents on that murderous maniac’s hysterics; “Screaming like a Jew in a frying pan!” – Russians would say.
We dont comment at other places because it is pointless. The number of paid posters or just plain blind are so many that anything you post is lost or the moderator does not allow it to be posted. By now it is pretty apparent that almost ALL big so called news outlets and even agencies like Reuters, AFP etc are just propaganda machines. In fact those who were false liberal media has shown their true colors like BBC, Guardian etc.. Even the likes of aljazera who post on their front page about Russian invasion and how Russian tank battalion is assaulting Luhansk airport. So whats the use of even reading any of them?
The US desperate.. It does not have an year. We can see it is throwing EVERYTHING at this. Syria is a long term play not short term. Doing anything there even regime change wont matter in the short term.
About the russian material losses..
We already know the M1A1 is much better defensive tank.. It was designed to withstand a front on assault by the USSR.. But it is useless in an offensive capacity.. You ever see soldiers riding atop on of those? The t90 costs half as much is far more reliable and able to use any kind of fuel even vegetable oil in its diesel engine. It also gives twice the mileage and range and weighs half as much. The T80 even had a similar turbine engine with half the reliability, range, double the cost, suck in any passengers riding on top, break down in the desert etc etc etc.. You also can not get close infantry support with a turbine engine.. The reason US planes dont get shot down is because long range missiles take out SAM batteries.. Manpads are not very effective unless you know how to use them and you need well connected information. The A10 wont do all that much better than the SU25 the way the ukies use them either.. The US/EU MBT’s never went up against the Russian MBT’s either.. Iraq dont count.. Saddam did not use proper ammo, did not have trained crews, no electronics to speak off and used them as static artillery.. Ukies also seem to pack all the ammo inside the tank to shoot faster once you get there so it blows up before it even gets a chance to fire when it gets hit.. The M1A1 can also blow up if shot properly and usually its not another tank that blows it up but the infantry using anti-tank rockets.. Just like in WW2 since none of the Russian tanks could beat the new German tanks but the Germans lost a lot of tanks anyway even the invincible ones that could not be blown up. Dont think the Russians dont have the capability.. They have tried and discarded many of the ideas the US has because of cost, reliability and the need to have it working in many environments reliably.
What is the US going to do if their logistics breaks down? You need 5 others to support someone at the front. It gets very expensive as Afghanistan showed.. Didnt really save all that many soldiers either..
The link I posted earlier about Game Theory shows the end game here.. Seems we were punked. It would be the only way it would work since if the enemy also knows the end game then they can also play the same game and throw obstacles and narrow down your choices.
This is a red herring, a misdirection, a false capitulation. It wastes the junta’s/Brussels’/Washington’s analysts’ time and energy developing a counter position, while their opponents prepare the grounds for the actually intended move.
Every previous time the Novorossyians or the Kremlin “capitulated”, a power move followed.
Note that the Ukes are making some successes over the last 24hrs. Look for a lightning strike on Mariupol, or an uprising in Kharkov, or …?
This is a sucker ball.

To Anonymous@12:50. I have to disagree with you about what is being said in the Comments section of the news that I read. In the last couple of weeks, more and more comments are coming from people who know what is really going on. Their comments contrast sharply with the echo-ers because they write details about the events whereas the echo-ers only “allege” and make generalizations with little back-up. I think we are making some headway.
“…said they wish to remain an integral part of the country.” – LOL!
This thing was so obvious, that I have not even bordered to comment on it before. This week I have heard some of the more sensible voices in the West state that “Russia should get / be allowed to keep ‘Eastern Ukraine’ / Donbass”. Evidently these people never asked Russia if it had claims over the territory or was ready tho accept them as part of Russia. This is the consolation prize least favorable to Russia, and most likely exactly what Putin does not want. This is the model Putin implemented in Crimea March for the benefit of an united Ukraine – “we will handle your terrorist and separatist problem here and stop the Crimean cancer and civil war from spreading to the rest of Ukraine.” If someone is now suggesting the same model for Donbass it is only because because the West wants to cut its losses and continue its fascist tyranny over the rest of Novorossiya. The offer would have been reasonable in May, not any longer.
The resistance has done something incredible, waged open war against the West – starting with little more then 20 men and a crowbar* – and won. The victory on the southern front and the almost total rout of the Ukrainian army is not only important for the war in the Donbass, but has global geopolitical consequences – almost in the scale of the Battle of Stalingrad. No, the Ukrainian Civil War is not over, but neither was Hitler defeated in 1943. I do not think I need to remind the readers of this blog that so far Russia has in no way interfered in the civil war or the events in Donbass.
(* Yes, when Strelkov entered Slavyansk he used a piece of rope and a van to pull open the steel screen from the windows of the police station and get hold of the assault rifles inside. I assume he also brought a crowbar to the break in.)
This victory must now somehow be reflected in the political solution. Novorossiyan tanks starting a march toward Kiev is the worst way to solve the issue, but still one of the options. The demand for “autonomy” within an “United Ukraine” is only the starting position in the negotiation process. This would create a double-plus-mega-Maidan armed to the teeth with main battle tanks and rocket artillery. If MPs were ever elected to a new Rada they would ride to work in T-80 tanks with an armed guard of 100 “Colorado” terrorist. The resistance could still go on with the civil war in other parts of Novorossiya and in Zakarpattia. I do not think this is a viable option.
What it is, is a clear statement that we as the resistance have equal say in Ukrainian affairs as the Maidanites and their Western handlers have. There is no legal grounds for a Western demand that Donbass exits from Ukrainian politics.
A militarized Donbass does not automatically mean a demand that Nazis and Maidanites disband their NazGuard Battalions and other illegal paramilitary structures. It just demands that cease activities in all of Novorossiya and preferably withdraw from Kiev to their support areas in core Banderastan in the west.
As for Putin’s two statements. I have not him mention Donbass or “Eastern Ukraine”, although this was widely reported in the West. Reading from the originals, I think he only uses the terms Novorossiya and South–East. A huge difference.
Pawn cocktail anyone ?

I agree with you, we have lost the info war, but it matters a lot.
I personally stopped visiting The Guardian disgusted from the articles there; though most of the commenters are the side of the truth. It is ridiculous as the article says one thing and the comments below completely uncover the lies written by the jurno; hence The Guardian started posting more and more w/o option to comment.
Stopped visiting Yahoo! as well – it is completely hopeless there – both the articles and the comments.

I guess this explains the abrupt removal of Strelkov. I guess he was at odds with Moskov. I heard claims that he wanted to advance all the way to Kiev, which was not the strategy of Moskov. Anyways, fantastic news for Novarussians. Putin is a master strategist and chess player.
Looks like a a dose of ‘told you so’ may be in order. ;)
Alexander Zakharchenko is going to be the candidate for the eastern regions of Ukraine come the next elections and he will walk it. He will get support in the same way that Yanukovych did: big support in the east and a moderate amount of support from the west based upon his presentation of himself as a unifier.
My guess is that most Ukrainians want a change from the awfulness that has been the past few years, interrupted only by Yanukovych who was trying to give the people what they wanted.
If the leadership of the rebels understand that they can have a hand in power then they are likely to see themselves as being better off with an agreed and supported settlement where Russia supports the outcome and where they have real power to make changes and improve life overall.
The leadership in the Donbass is not filled with fools and while there is a time for rhetoric and chest beating, in the end they look around and understand that a federalised setup where they are involved in national politics at the top level and are an engine of change is a rely good option for themselves.
But the rest of the world seems bent on escalating pressure upon Russia, and what for? Russia has been able to get the rebels to the table, willing to discuss a laying down of arms and to plan a future for a unified state of Ukraine. What more can Russia do?
By the way, that’s a rhetorical question because it isn’t about what Russia can do but that Russia has shown herself to be a force, a force with discipline and a plan. Now, all that is left is temper tantrums from the west.
Part 1:
The NONSENSE about Novorussia remaining under Kiev control is a PLOY designed by Russia to tide them over, in the face of ‘public’ opinion, for the duration of Tony Blair’s massive NATO summit in Cardiff, UK. Remember, for the first time ever, representatives from a non-NATO member are ‘guests of honour’- that’s right, Ukraine’s stooge leadership is flying into Wales at Blair’s behest.
If Novorussia remained a district of Ukraine, across a year or two the Kiev stooges would simply re-establish bases under their control all across the region- you know that and I know that. The USA and Germany are amongst many modern nations that have a ‘federal’ system and powerful localised governments, but the central government authority gets to say where the nation’s military and major policing forces are based, and who runs them.
Putin has been drawn into the West’s trap. Fail to legally recognise Novorussia, and the West can legally aid Kiev to ANY degree, including NATO air strikes, GAZA-style, all across Novorussia. But if Putin gives the word to formally recognise Novorussia, the West can accuse Russia of illegally annexing the region, and begin the process of employing the Ukraine-option in Finland.
Russia’s current plan is to formalise the desired borders of the new East Ukraine ‘nation’, have the people participate in a Crimea-style ‘referendum’, and have the region itself declare its own democratic independence (for a second time). Putin’s ludicrous FANTASY is that this time the Jewish controlled mainstream media of the West will see that justice is on the side of the people of East Ukraine, and report favourably- god, some people NEVER learn.
In reality, Putin and Russia will be demonised MORE. While Humanity has won a stunning victory in Novorussia (far better and far sooner than anything I dared hope for), the monsters that caused the horrors in the first place have only gotten started. Putin’s BEST move was a peace-keeper incursion on DAY ONE. The monsters rely on getting wars started, and making those war regions ever more hellish. Putin could have stopped this war BEFORE it started, frustrating the plans of the monsters.
Part 2:
Too late now. 99% of the planet’s sheeple KNOW that Russia invaded Ukraine- the truth is neither here nor there. If you haven’t read the seminal work by Edward Bernays, you have no right in thinking you can possibly understand the methods of the monsters. Why do you think so many ‘interesting’ posters here DEMAND you never discuss the absolute Jewish control of the mass media?
Clearly the next stage for our side is choosing the desired borders of the new nation. One assumes Russia has a firm idea where these need to be, and the Humanity of East Ukraine will need to rush to control the land up to these borders as quickly as possible. But can the referendum be held while so many people have been forced to flee the region by Obama’s neo-Nazi atrocities? Time is not on our side.
What if NATO provided new blitzkrieg units to Kiev, that pounded themselves deep into Novorussian territory, with assistance from Polish based air support? Of course the invaders would suffer heavy losses, but unless OFFICIAL Russian military forces immediately engaged the attackers (highly illegal), Novorussia would be returned to terrible uncertainty again. The “Putin is a genius for waiting” idiots have NO ANSWER for what our side could sensibly do if NATO enters into a legal military treaty with Kiev.
Putin is engaged in a high-stakes poker game where he threw away his winning hand at the beginning, and chose instead to play a bluffing game on a terrible hand. Kiev can legally ally with any other nation- the folk of (current) Novorussia cannot. If NATO places its winning hand on the table, NATO forces get to overrun Novorussia, and there isn’t a damned thing Putin can do, save to ‘draw his gun’.
But if Putin ‘draws his gun’, Russian and the West are at war- the very thing the monsters wanted all along.
SITREP: Operation Destroy Russia/Putin
Negotiations in Minsk: a two-sided tango danced by proxies who can’t get closer than across the ballroom floor. It is for assuagement of both sides.
A deal is impossible for the Liberation Army. Though the message sent in the assassination attempt of Zaharchenko in Donetsk on the 30th was quite clear. Negotiate or else.
Vladislav Surkov, the fifth column puppet master, means to get his way and save Kiev. (I believe he works with the oligarchs against Putin and against Russia and for the Hegemon). Killing the military leader at this point would have been very smart. It might have forced Strelkov back into the limelight (which clearly Putin does not want.) Or it would have demoralized the troops to lose their new, forceful native-born Donbassian, Zaharchenko, and not get Strelkov back.
The ante on the table right now must be in the tens of billions of US dollars.
Promises to keep: if Surkov can pull off a negotiated end to this war (which means Putin loses), that will certainly mean Surkov is crowned by the West the next Gorbachev. He will be financed to win the election and complete the total destruction of Russia internally. They won’t need a Maidan in Moscow.
The demoralization of peoples in the world will be catastrophic for Eurasia, and seriously trump China’s plans for a multi-polar world with new rules that eclipse the Hegemon.
This war is now mere distraction from the games of politics and the art of “negotiating to victory”. The US/Hegemon does this and calls it Peace. They lose on the battlefield but win by destroying the natural leadership and logical progression of a nation or region. The final state of Ukraine is of no concern. It can look like a hundred cantons or city-states. What the goal is to destroy Russia and remove Putin from the world stage.
Putin has won all battles on his turf in the past. Minsk now? Somewhere else later? The “talks” will move about. The Hegemon’s many ‘good offices’ like Ban Ki Moon, the Swiss, Merkel, whoever Putin might trust for a neutral or helpful hand, will be rolled out over the months of the negotiations. However, War is Putin’s hand in this game. Just as his nukes are his ultimate shield.
The “ceasefire” will be the death knell. If it holds for any length of time (a few weeks), the war is lost.
So watch the action of the military. Continued fighting means the negotiations are a ploy. A real ceasefire means Putin has lost his grip on the government, not just events on the ground.
No one has a definition from Putin (the legalist par excellence) of “statehood”. Is this an autonomous region? Is this some federal state? Is this a construct to be determined later?
I think “statehood” is Putin’s sugar in the engine of negotiations. It offers the Novorossians something Kiev will never grant and the Hegemon will never allow. Thus, it delays, prolongs the process. Putin has to extricate Surkov from the Ukraine project. Watch for this showdown of Fifth Column versus Putin. Surkov has played a treacherous role of blood and money for power.
I am just giving a SITREP when suddenly we see “talks”, “negotiations” at the very moment the war is its widest, the events most reversed, and Ukraine virtually losing a third of its size and nearly all its coastline.
So think: why negotiations now? Whose game is it? Is there more than one game going on? Is Surkov the real game Putin intends to win because he has to beat this guy and the fifth column or he loses or he is replaced by his own group? Can Putin defeat the Hegemon’s proxy and its covert agent in one grand play?
Keep an eye on General Shoigu. He has dead conscripts in the Russian military to account for now. Remember, Russian boys weren’t going to go fight for Donbass.
Enjoy.
This is the moment of truth for AZ ‘strategists’ and the junta.
I don’t think they will accept it. They still aren’t ready to admit defeat and need cover for their invasion of the middle east.
I hoppe I’m wrong.
I agree with Valentin regarding the Guardian, but I continue to read it solely for the comments. Some of them are quite good and take my blood pressure down a few notches after following NYT journalists on Twitter. It’s easy to find the good Guardian comments, they’re the ones which are longer than 6 lines.
But despite Russia’s military strategies and clever propaganda they’ve lost the information war and NATO will soon be fighting in the Ukraine as they have universal support on Yahoo and Huffington. I’m almost completely serious. In my opinion these are the new mainstream barometers for public sentiment (Fox is always for war). This may not be proof, but by way of comparison, it’s generally accepted that overt, strong military action in Syria was dropped due to a lack of popular support. Do you recall mass opposition in the streets? I don’t. I suspect the support Washington was looking for was to have come online and, since the majority of Huffington Post and Yahoo readers know and care little of Syria – and are generally tired of boondoggles in the middle-east – the average poster would be a non-interventionist. In contrast, Americans understand Russia extremely well. They know that Russia was a country of democracy hating zombies that wanted to nuke us in 1962; they recall that Russia hated our freedoms in Rocky IV; they remember that Russia was kind of friendly under Yeltsin, but that now they hate gays, Pussy Riot, free speech and, in general, want to turn Europe into a wasteland of homophobic thought police and place a ban on girl bands.
These are the hearts and minds that Russia would have to win over to prevent military action. It’s a fight that will never be won, but I hope I’m wrong.

SUBJECT: Ukraine and NATO
Although President Vladimir Putin has until now showed considerable reserve on the conflict in the Ukraine, it behooves us to remember that Russia, too, can “shock and awe.”
In our view, if there is the slightest chance of that kind of thing eventually happening to Europe because of Ukraine, sober-minded leaders need to think this through very carefully.
We saw no credible evidence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq then; we see no credible evidence of a Russian invasion now.

Seems even those who know better thinks Merkel is the nazi b$#@th here..
Looks like US dont have an year.. They want to send Troops under as a Nato ally right now.. Hope Putin has plan B because when retired people who knew their jobs come out in the open like this it means the end is near and they expect shock and awe to show up in europe.

To Anonymous I & II: If Russia had “invaded” or militarily intervened in Ukraine early in this process, I’m convinced Moscow would now be under siege. I read that out of all the Russian Federation countries, Ukraine is the second-most fertile country to “take” in terms of fertile earth and ample resources. Second only to — notably — Russia. So there’s the prize. And I imagine the vengeful American powers that be in the U.S. are keen on that prize for all their rich corporate buddies to get in on and profit from as well as punishing Putin for granting asylum to Edward Snowden. I’m so ashamed to be a U.S. citizen at this time. The U.S. government has become the world’s monster at this time, shamelessly doing the unconscionable bidding (killing, occupying sovereign nations, orchestrated uprisings, regime change, drones, spying) of their rich corporate bosses.
Alien Tech, the Western MSM is 100% owned by Rightwing business thugs, overwhelming Jewish or Sabbat Goy Toys, is highly oligopolised, and, as is inescapable, a propaganda system for the Rulers of Mankind. Chomsky and Herman outlined the facts in ‘Manufacturing Consent’, but it is glaringly obvious to any observer. My family were all bar me workers in the Murdoch apparat, including senior journalists, but never management, and they witnessed the steady purging of all non-Hard Right opinion over twenty or thirty years, as any reader would also have done.
Shuler Causnik, the USA and its ruling elites and thoroughly brainwashed serfs have been the ‘world monster’ in growth since the Pilgrim Fathers, but certainly in full, hideous, adult-hood since WW2.
America is very careful with its terminology, and I will just say that they have very good and logical reasons for doing that.
There could be People who think that if there was to be 2 Countries made from the current Ukraine, then the term Russia should not be used in the Name, because if there is a New Russia, then this will just ‘Prove’ to the Uniformed the the Western Media was stating Facts as to what is happening in Ukraine, and these are a Huge Majority in Europe, and in West Ukraine.
Perhaps East Ukraine should be used, because West Ukrainians cannot be hostile to the word Ukraine, but Many of them are hostile to the word Russia, and so to use Russia in a possible New Country, is like scoring an own goal, because the word Russia is enough to make the division much greater, and it is More Than Enough ‘Proof’ to the Uniformed that they were hearing the truth from the Western Media on Ukraine.
To use Russia in the Name of a Possible New Country would Convince the Uniformed that Russia is grabbing land and is the Aggressor in Ukraine.
There could be who think that Crimea should have become an ‘Independent’ County on Paper, rather than join Russia in a Confederation on Paper, but it is as it is.
The terms West Ukraine and East Ukraine, or the 2 Ukraine could be likened North Korea and South Korea, who are the same Race of People, but they have their differences on Politics.
This would improve the chances of West Ukraine and East Ukraine becoming a United Country some time in the future, because both Countries are called Ukraine.
I understand why some feel so strongly that federation now would be odious, but I’d like to see Novorossiya voting for the next Ukrainian Rada. (Or the one after that, if there is still voting.)
I see the possibility of a big surprise in the upcoming elections. About 50% of the Ukrainian regular army seems admirably unwilling to fight. Are we being lied to about sentiment in the west Ukraine?
Of course, if I can ask that, so can Yatseniuk, and as we’ve seen, these bastards have their “little ways.”
