Press TV reports that the Israeli parliament has called for an investigation into the reason behind the failure of Israeli Intelligence services in predicting the Egyptian uprising in advance. In the meantime, 400 Israelis have been evacuated from Cairo.
Israeli officials have telephoned Hosni Mubarak’s newly appointed vice president Omar Suleiman several times urging Egypt to maintain previous security coordination, Israeli media said. The discussions were over Egypt’s role on the Israeli border and Gaza smuggling tunnels, the Israeli daily Maariv reported…
Israel, according to Maariv, warned Suleiman of the risk if Egypt loses control over the smuggling tunnels. Intelligence learned that weapons and ammunition smuggling has increased during the unrest in Egypt as well as infiltrators into Israel as the army was busy trying to restore order in the country.
Quoting sources in the Israeli foreign ministry, Maariv added that Suleiman might sacrifice his country’s relations with Israel in order to satisfy public opinion and thus proves that he is the right choice….
great interview:

right now, a few key factors are in play:
1. what will the army do? will it split? will it assume power? will it facilitate a new interim government and free elections? or will it turn on the people?
2. what will the revolutionary movement do? right now, there are large protests in central cairo, and more are being planned for the rest of the week. but state tv is still under regime control. will it be occupied and liberated?
3. the revolution is a mass uprising of the whole society against the regime. but it also has a strong working class, anti-neoliberal dynamic. how will this contradiction within the revolution play itself out? if factories are occupied, as is happening, how will the liberal reformers respond? trotsky’s theory of permanent revolution is worth recalling at this point.
4. what is the US strategy? right now, the US is clearly tailing events on the ground. robert gibbs looked like an idiot a few days ago, and Obama and Clinton are merely calling for Mubarek to allow “orderly reforms”. this imperialist impulse will not be forgotten.
5. whatever happens, the genie is out of the bottle. the zionists and americans should rightfully be shaking with fear.
Off topic but Paul Murphy at RETWA wrote a good article called Profile of a Suicide Bomber and a Terror Cell

I think the FSB should pay a trip to Turkey with a blow torch, pliers and a video camera that would get the Doku rat out of his hole.
