Earlier in March, India Foreign Minister Jainshankar acerbically pushed back not too subtly against the West – and specifically the US – judgments/opinions against the ruling Indian Govt in response to a question about what criticism of India from Western think tanks portended. NATO troops are hiding on the border ready to flee at the first sign of incoming fire, wouldn’t take much for there to be a run on TP within their ranks. I feel sorry for the front line Orc fodder, hopefully the Republics have some stand off missiles to hit rear echelon formations, command posts and comms centres. The fellas on the front line may well appreciate that.

For example, no one living in Russia accepted what was told to them through state media as the truth. It could be true but was most likely false. The game was to figure out what the lies meant. Instead of poring over photos in the newspapers, citizens relied on their personal networks to provide a narrative that explained what they could see happening around them. This is something Americans are learning. When consuming American media, you start with the assumption that the narrative is false. The framing of the story is always a self-serving fairy tale. You eliminate that and then try to figure out a new narrative from the facts that can be verified. Figuring out what is really happening has become a booming industry for independent commentators and analysts.
You see this with the Covid panic. The one thing everyone agrees upon is that the virus did not start from a bat market in rural China. That is the official explanation, but everyone knows it is a lie. Similarly, few people think the government measures have much to do with public health and safety. Some do, but they are mostly old people more afraid of the Grim Reaper than being lied to by their government. The result is we have lots of theories about what is “really happening” behind the Covid scare.
Similarly, the militarization of Washington is becoming another topic for regime experts to analyze. The bizarre reaction of the inner party to the very peaceful demonstrations in January makes no sense at face value. There must be another reason for why they are telling the citizens that they will shoot the next demonstrators who come into the city to petition their rulers for redress. The question is, what are they plotting next?
That is the problem with black-box government.

This poem is touching and sad too – it reminds me a bit of German songs you sometimes hear in recitals – by Schubert maybe. Lovely.
No, of course I didn’t think that, sand. This alludes to the fact that true creative endeavours like poetry are never guaranteed of a result. John McLaughlin the musician, made this point in an interview, saying the musician doesn’t switch off at the end of the working day, he continues in his efforts, day in and day out, yet is never guaranteed a result. The results come out of the experience of doing it. But hey, don’t be so sure, you’ll ever make it to a point where the process becomes familiar. It some ways, it does, yes, but there is no way to contrive work in this field. It either stands on its own, or is nothing, a swindle.
Schubert, yes wasn’t it that sensitive soul who sad all music was sad? I’d say he’s hearing the Call of Soul, but sees the human experience as an almost insurmountable experience. It isn’t, it’s a testing ground, and it’s our destiny to overcome all apparent limitations. Love, D.

In view of our understanding that the High Court has found some articles on this blog to be in contempt of court, and in view of the fact that the Crown Office had sought to censor such a large range of articles, this blog has no choice but to go dark from 15.00 today until some time after tomorrow’s court hearing, when it will be specified to us precisely how much of the truth we have to expunge before we can bring the blog back up.

I can’t begin to adequately express my gratitude to you, for the Treasures you bring to our Café.
While I struggle with the technical details of astrology, your drawing together of these three streams of understanding-astrology, God and Jung-I feel real joy, refreshment, enthusiasm and inspiration from the imagery evoked by your posts.
In the last Café one of the standout images you articulated was ‘the bridge’, which has come up again this week.
The bridge as metaphor…
When I first returned to the Netherlands in search of family viciously and resolutely rejected and condemned by my parents, I took a photo of a little bridge in a sylvan setting in Makkum, Friesland.
That image provided the inspiration for numerous activities in my life since then.
(In her recent discussion with Gemma Doherty, CAF revealed her current domicile as the IJsselmeer- colour me green 🎶)
I write as the district where I grew up in Oz is submerged, yet again, in floodwaters. This includes the new bridge, built at enormous cost to replace the historic old bridge, which regularly flooded, cutting off vast numbers of settlers from essential services and each other.
I’ve lost count of the numbers of people that needed to be airlifted out…and the numbers of people who have died over the two+ centuries of white settlement.
The new bridge has barely been completed, under huge disagreements/protests and demonstrations, and it went under…just like that.
So here is another little family tale from same place, down under
My parents and I arrived in the Hawkesbury Valley in January 1956. My mother and I were already settled in the Holding Centre, which was mostly filled with families (young, able-bodied work force selected from the Displaced Persons camps of traumatised post WW11 Europe)
My father- off the train at nearest railway station, called in at the local pub, still there, to ask directions, then waded through the flood-waters with his suitcase on his head, to reach his family.
From that experience, he was able to spot the high grounds in the district, so that having saved all their coins (another of Mundo’s images) they were able to buy a scruffy looking piece of dirt in the bush that they could call home.
From this anecdote, I segue into another…
Someone mentioned Mary Webb in the last Café. I had never heard of her, so looked up her name.
As so often happens, I was more intrigued by another name that popped up- Stella Gibbons, and her best seller Cold Comfort Farm
I was so intrigued, I ended up reserving a copy of both the book and the DVD, seeing as how we were completely rained in recently. Yesterday the sun came out, so I picked up the DVD and thoroughly enjoyed it. I laughed out loud a lot in this film, but especially when ‘the sun’tarot card turned up for one of the ‘doomed’ characters in CCF.
One more segue before I conclude: one of the deciding factors (apart from the cast) in buying the DVD as well as the book, is the director: John Schlesinger.
John Schlesinger’s direction in the Cold War drama ‘The Falcon and the Snowman’ was in my opinion, pure genius. I’ve watched it many times because it contains numerous elements of cold hard facts, especially Australian culpability.
To this day, I’m gobsmacked by the masses of Australians who have no idea.
But now I fully grasp the full extent of the true sadism and destruction that maintains this status quo…what we are all up against.

I wonder what effect on EU scene, and Ukraine…
Ship has huge draught about 47 ft…so needs more. But big ship in shallow waters is a big problem as the 1 main propellor it has does weird things that draws you into the shallows..pulls to one side..and could cause the sand underneath to move around and settle elsewheres….clog up bow thrusters etc etc. At slow speed ship is more vulnerable to windage. The momentum with the size of that thing must be horrendous….should have used tugs all the way perhaps as max canal speed is 7.5 knots…..probably was doing less…..not much steerage at that speed perhaps. Max depth of canal 66ft but of course not all the way across. Winds from desert must blow sand in. But captain recieved permission to go through…so someone checked the figures….oops. Gonna be expensive now. Chancy.

@ MoA I read that EG lost power in 30 kt crosswind. Precisely what “lost power” means is undefined. Ship has both bow and stern thrusters. Main power is diesel, there’s a big diesel generator for electric power. If “lost power” means lost power, then the result might well be what we see, no thrusters and no screw and perhaps no rudder. Though the rudder is almost useless at losw speed (7? kts?)
Channel is only partially dreged – she’s hard on the mud and the bow about a meter above the stern.
I know of two ship stories and an offshore supply boat story of lost power, but they’re 35 – 50 years old. Both ships were main engine, not DG, both were technically trivial (but Very Expensive!!). The offshore boat was kool > diesel generator shared jacket water with both propulsion engines – all three were GM 2stroke, a pair of 8V92 and a 4-53…you already know the failure from that…a 10-32 nut fell off and drained the coolant into the bilge, and when the low coolant alarm went off the boat went dark (at 2 AM 150 miles offshore in January).
This matter seems different.
I might take a look at the micro-controllers in the engine room… ahem…

It was a coalition of forces from the “Volk” ( churches, regional government, business, and scientists) which backed her down. She needs to open up the door for her successor.
From Germany, I can tell you that this Easter shutdown with even closing of supermarkets was not a Merkel idea alone. It was taken in cooperation with the prime ministers of all Bundesländer.
There was a lot of critisism and confusion, but eventually German employers have finely calculated for them what this idea would have costed. The rest is show.
Btw, Bundesland Saarland has decided to end the lockdown after Easter. Kind of the same as happened in Texas. Since Saarland borders France, which is a high-risk area, it’s interesting to watch how this will develop. There are lots of correlations that lockdowns don’t really work. We may hope and anticipate as such, but results don’t show tangible effect.

There was a tremendous amount going on in the UK last March, and to have missed the report is understandable, though there was plenty of talk for and against Covid being flu. What has always been in my mind, is the concept tending towards, “just a flu, which is based on ignorance really, as their are many types of flu virus, and deaths commonly associated with them.
They will of course increase in corresponding levels of major disease outbreaks. This is inevitable, and not entirely disassociated with flu vaccination and other types that weaken the immune system.
The whole area of contagion is something that is particularly interesting. There is not enough on this, as it goes so far beyond complementary therapeutic measures, despite their value, it is missed, why ?

Our mobile home park came out and marched, yes, marched to mark the 100th birthday of one of our residents. About 50 gathered outside her house and sang to her, gave her a practical plant ( succulent) and later hung out chatting for awhile.

Our little group in my corner of the park kept the community fires burning this winter by hosting an outdoor Christmas tree along with outdoor singing, and a free community kitchen Chili feed in February. Hi Babuška, wonderful. It is a different type of almost desert and there are tres leches cakes as many as there is cake bakers. Every country has their own specialty. I will get time this coming week (its been a busy one this last one) to post.
The one I make is from Guatemala and uses eggs in the cake, but the egg whites are used to make the topping (not whipped cream), and the topping is different. It is almost like a soft but very shiny meringue or marshmallow fluff. I’d never seen anything like that topping before coming across it, but I’ll post it soon as I can. The cake itself (and this is always what I find intriguing and what makes me fall in love with certain foods) has deeply peasant roots. You’re looking for a cake with big crumbs, almost a ‘rough’ textured cake, so it can hold all the milks and not turn into mush. In old times the three milks were made specially for this cake and it took a few days to get it all done. Its a thing with meaning where I live and if one mentions you can make tres leches, there is an awe around that :-)
Enjoy your tres leches on your special occasion! I’m sure it will be lovely! and think of the Latin American world, and peasant history of food and retaining and remembering the history and old methods and recipes and the people trying hard to shake off the hegemon!
