Thought I would share an account of what the Donbass people have suffered since the terrorist attacks by kiev on them, this one on Donetsk resident Lena (transliterated by Yandex):

“A resident of Donetsk hid from the shelling in the storeroom with the seals, and they ran away on the sides. In my memory, the three most difficult days of the entire period of military operations were most deeply stored.

The first day was on May 26, 2014, when my daughter came under fire. He and his friends went to the beach to relax. I was at work-I’m a choreographer in a kindergarten located in the city center, on Gurova Avenue. And here we were, at work, watching low-flying planes… my daughter broke through, got through to me on the phone. He says: “Mom, is everything all right there? They shot at us!” And I remember changing my clothes on the move, shouting to the director: “I ran – they are bombing there!”. No one knew yet that there was a fight at the airport, they only understood that something terrible was happening. I took a minibus to the Branch Line, ran to the tram, because the traffic was already blocked. I got to the train station, still dropped by the “Lingonberry”, I think-you never know what will happen… I bought bread and milk without thinking at all. We had an ATB store in the village on Kremlevsky Prospekt, I was already near it, then my daughter calls again: “Mom, where are you?!”. And the shelling starts again… It was a double horror, because we did not know anything like this, we could not have imagined that we would be bombed from the sky, from an airplane… I say: “Daughter, I’m already here, close by.”

My daughter then told me how they were lying, sunbathing, and then the Ukrainian aviation flew… The boys were interested in what it is, they began to shoot on their mobile phones. They laugh: “This is the capture of the airport!”, because no one believed that this was all in reality. And suddenly helicopters fly low over them, and automatic fire is heard on the coastal reeds.

There is a cafe nearby, the children ran over there, hid there. Then a car came along and picked them up. He says: “Mom, I couldn’t get through to you – there was no connection at all.”

The following days in my memory are associated with a continuous hum. Our house is very close to the airport, facing it; nearby-21 hospitals, the Oktyabrskaya mine, on the other side – the railway station. We used to say ,” What a lovely place to live in – everything is close by!” And even when our territory was declared a no-fly zone, Ukrainian cargo planes still flew to the airport. Plus, shells flew from Karlovka towards Pisky. Trains were still running from the railway station. That was in June. Our Oktyabrsky has not yet been bombed, but the first fragment came to us in June-it broke the glass in my neighbor’s window. Then the shells began to fly directly to us, not “by mistake”. It was very scary when the first time we were fired from “Grads”. I remember 4 am like
it hummed… My daughter and I went to the storage room (we live on the top floor of a five-story building). It’s creepy – what if it hits the roof?..

…The second day that strongly sticks in my memory is January 13, 2015. My daughter and I were at home, and at about one o’clock in the afternoon, the Grad fire began. I was in the hall, my daughter was in the kitchen preparing something to eat. “Grad” falls in a checkerboard pattern, and now shells began to fall right next to us-behind the house, in front of the house… A little earlier, on January 9 and 11, our house was already hit, windows were broken, housing workers came, covered the frames with film. And then-new explosions, the whole house shakes… The bombardment didn’t last long, but it seemed endless… It’s calmed down, I look out the window, and I see our neighbor Aunt Nadya lying in front of the house, all cut up by shrapnel-a shell fell five meters away from her… I kept trying to go and cover her with something, because while the shelling is going on, no one will come here to witness the death… But as soon as I poke my head out, the shooting starts again. And when there are no windows in the entrance, this roar, of course, is even louder.

Only my daughter and I were left in the house, my friend and mother were on the second floor, and her neighbor was next to us. Older women. At the time of the attack, the girlfriend was at work, on Leninsky Prospekt. We waited out the shelling first on the fifth floor, then went down to the grannies on the second floor… They say: “Lena, will you leave us?..”. I call my friend: “Sveta, we need to get out of here.”

Until six in the evening, we were shelled harshly. Heavy artillery was being fired so hard that the white light couldn’t be seen. It’s scary – I can’t tell you to what extent. Not only and not so much for myself – for my daughter. Although she is an adult, she was then 27 years old, but still-this is my child…

Military vehicles were not allowed to enter the village. We decided to go on foot with grief in half, but then the problem was solved with the car. We moved out and lived with my daughter in kindergarten, at my job.

The way we traveled is both a laugh and a sin. We have three cats and a chinchilla. Yes, and a parrot-the neighbors gave it to us when they left the war. And Sveta has a cat. We yank them into one box, the parrot is also stuffed in the box, the chinchilla daughter put in her bosom. Things-at a minimum; documents – and left. The shelling is going on, the cats in the box are yapping… our grandmothers are also fussing. We loaded into the car, some with bags on their laps, some with a box of cats… And only when they left the railway station, they more or less exhaled. When we left – we thought it wasn’t for long, but we lived out of the house for a year and a half… By the way, our animals react differently to bombings. Cat Tusya, hearing explosions, hides so that it is nowhere to be seen. The oldest cat, Philemon, can growl and also leave. A Brit Bun-that does not matter at all. We hide in the corridor, and he is unperturbed. I remember how in one of the first attacks on the village, my daughter threw our cats into the storeroom, where we were saved. And they jump out in different directions, I shout to her to hide herself, and she: “Mom, cats!”. – “Let them hide, these seals!”.

On February 1, 2015, we were directly hit by an incendiary shell in our entrance – it flew to the third floor, and our apartment almost burned down. Late in the evening that day, I got a call: “Lena, there is a direct hit in your entrance on your riser. Everything is on fire.” On February 2, my girlfriend and I arrived home early in the morning. On the way, I was like, ” Well, maybe the balcony just burned down a little bit, and that’s it.” But when I saw it… Everything was still smoking there, but in that apartment on the third floor, it was burning down. I tried to cover it up somehow… The most interesting thing is that you fill it with water – but there is no fizz, and it is not stewed. Until the apartment burned down to the ground, nothing was over. And the flames spread to the fourth floor, where the apartment also burned down. From the impact of the projectile between the third and fourth floors caved ceilings-in the lower apartment reared up the ceiling, and in the upper-the floor caved, respectively.

From my balcony-although it was no longer a balcony, but just a stove-I dumped the products of combustion. There is no balcony, no kitchen window, everything is broken… And that apartment on the third floor is one big hole, and everything is black. Plus, it’s dark outside – it’s winter, and we arrived around seven in the morning, because the later you arrive, the more likely you are to come under fire. So I looked around me and said, ” How do I move on?” I did some repairs before the war – I haven’t even finished them yet. I collected money for a long time, I wanted to make a “candy”. Moreover, the repair was done to me by a master from Western Ukraine. My girlfriend was joking back then: “Lena, are you arguing with him about political issues?” I say: “No, we have a different worldview.” He immediately said about himself in plain text: “I am a Bandera member.” At first, I tried to argue with him, but then I realized: you can’t argue with these people. You can’t prove anything. As a master, he is good – let him make repairs…

Then my daughter and I came to our senses and said: “Well, there will be a new renovation. My whole life is in repairs!”

On the same ill-fated day, my best friend’s son disappeared. A serviceman. And still we can’t find it…

The hall in our apartment, fortunately, survived. However, the furniture and things were badly damaged… Kitchen-all the tiles are broken, all in holes. As luck would have it, there are holes where you can’t hang shelves if you follow the principle from the cartoon “Prostokvashino”. The ceiling was split by shrapnel, there are no chandeliers in the hall. All the metal objects that were in the apartment were oxidized and rusted. And it was almost impossible to clean up all this fumes. I’ve been cleaning out my apartment for a year! Moreover, I bought a detergent with acid, the other did not “take”at all. What they shot is unknown. When we got back to our apartment, the skin on my face was not all right. And it was very hard to wash my hands after this black stuff – it’s so tarry, with a disgusting pungent smell.

And the whole entrance is black and smelled of the same burning. The doors… consider them gone. One of our doors was damaged even earlier – when Tochka-U arrived at the State-owned Chemical Products Plant. It broke in half. My apartment hasn’t been closed for almost a year. But at least the second door was nominally there. And this time we arrived – and there is no second one.

That day in October 2014, when Tochka-U arrived, was also well remembered. My girlfriend at that moment went out on the balcony – there was no light, the refrigerators did not work, and the food was stored on the balcony. And then a blast wave will throw her against the wall! She says, ” I feel like I’ve been hit really, really hard and knocked out.” I came to my senses – there is no window, there is earth all over the room…

I always “accompanied” my friend by phone from work to home. She was walking home from the train station, because there was no transport going any further. And then she says, ” Len, when you accompany me, it’s not so scary.” At one time, her mother was in the hospital, in frontline 21, and so she ran to her mother from work, and all the time we were “on the phone”. And one day she calls: “Len, I’m on my way to the hospital.” And suddenly – an explosion! I shout: “Sveta! Sveta!!!”. Seconds later: “Lena, calm down, I fell.” As soon as she got up – again a terrible explosion … Again our long-suffering village was surrounded, bombed for a long time, the woman’s head was torn off, and she lay there for a very long time – right in front of the windows… from four o’clock in the evening until noon the next day. She was also going to the hospital to see her son, and now she came under this attack…

And I myself also went to and from work all this time – and after lunch we always started firing on Oktyabrsky. Around noon-one o’clock in the afternoon, the village became deserted. Then, when we already had everything burned down there, they gave us a “break” – they started starting around 4-5 pm…

Against the background of all this horror, the mutual assistance of all the neighbors who remained in the village was very supportive. When my apartment was on fire, they helped me put it out and made sure that no one took anything out. When we were on the spot during heavy shelling, we also helped people as much as we could.

Now we live in our own apartment again. In April 2016, we returned, and we are not going anywhere from here. We are still being shelled, and the house sometimes shakes – but we are already so used to it… I won’t say that it’s not scary – it’s scary. Then there’s the fact that we live on the top floor – and you pray every time: “God, at least not in the roof!”. You hear: “uuuuuuuuuuuuuuu”, counting down the seconds and think, “Where did it land?”. It’s still easier for us to some extent, because we are “undercover”. We have a house number 41-a here, many people have heard about it, we call it “Pavlov’s House” among ourselves – this is our shield. There were more than forty direct hits on him alone. And there are still a lot of arrivals around it.

Our neighbors are also slowly returning. We now live in the entrance 6 families. They also return with their children. There are also families with small children who did not travel at all during the entire period of hostilities. For example, a family from our house, also from the fifth floor, only through the entrance – so they did not leave anywhere. Moreover, Nikolai, the head of the family, watched the house in the absence of many neighbors-so that looters did not climb, so that nothing was lost. We call him “Kolya the commandant”. And he scolded us constantly: “When will you be back home?». And finally: “Kolya, we’re coming back!”. There was so much joy…

You know, now I have a completely different feeling when I see people from my village. Even with those with whom we did not greet before, but simply knew by sight-we say hello. Sometimes you’d run into someone in the middle of town. Are you kidding me: “All Oktyabrsky here gathered?”. In response: “Oh, hello!”. And those whom you knew “before” and with whom you experienced all this, are now completely native people. And such joy that they are alive…

People ask me: “Lena, how do you live there, in these conditions?”. I answer: “My apartment has a high-tech style. A brother from the Crimea is calling on Skype – and he was visiting me before the war and didn’t see all this. He asks: “Lena, is that a bare wall behind you?” I say ,” Why naked? There’s still some putty left on it!” I walked around the apartment with the camera, showed him the situation. He’s in shock – he knew how it was before the war…

Our windows were clogged with plywood. When we got home, my daughter slept through the first day of work. Says: As soon as I don’t wake up, the room is dark, as if it’s still night…

Now we have light, gas, water, and heat – what else do we need? It’s a pity for the flowers – I had a lot of indoor flowers, including rare ones, and they all died in that fire. And one more detail: you get things out of the cabinets-they seem to be intact, there were no hits there. The clothes were stored in covers. You take off the cover – and it’s all black, and the thing falls apart in your hands. It’s coming apart.

… Well, never mind. The most important thing is that your family is alive, you have a job, and you have a place to live.

Our animals are back with us. Also with the addition: we took a turtle home from kindergarten, which became our temporary shelter. They called her Sarah. Now we have three cats, a chinchilla, parrots, and a turtle. And new flowers. However, the fish could not be saved – I also took them out of the house then, but they froze. Blackout – and that’s it, in one day the fish were gone…

We don’t have windows installed yet. But I somehow “ennobled” the balcony. However, the guests are not very willing to go to it… There was a concrete slab as a floor and a balcony frame-I didn’t knock it down when the balcony was destroyed. Now I’ve pulled a string around the perimeter – and I’m hanging up my underwear. A friend asks, ” How do you get out there?” It’s not fenced in, just a stove. I’m responding: “I’m used to it now.” I put the flowers there in pots… There’s no wallpaper in the room, but I’ve put up the paintings. And curtains in the kitchen. Let’s live…

FWIW the people in Anoxia are polite, so they will wear a mask sometimes. Mostly they live in reality though, and act as though they realize it’s a con, eg do not wear masks, and they do shake hands. I have met Anoxians who have been persuaded to join the cult of covid, and they were quite ill. The racket has, in these precincts, gone about as far as it can go.

This inclines me to expect that now, soon, a new phase of coercion will be applied. And resisted. Here, the cop policy is to ignore behavior unless it is a fight or other similar public bad behavior. They pretty well leave people alone, even giving warnings rather than tickets, many times, for traffic violations.

The cops are at about 1/2 of authorized cop positions…low pay. They work 12 hour shifts. And focus on real dangers, not imaginary ones. It’s actually quite nice.
