I am Canadian. I am also embarrassed by my governments military adventurism in the Middle East and Ukraine. For a government such as ours, under no threat whatsoever from actions thousands of miles from our borders, to get involved in these disastrous US foreign policy blunders, is beyond my comprehension.
We have a national budget being tabled that cannot afford to take care of Canadians, yet will spend billions to provoke international unrest.
We have a media so concentrated and controlled that it is impossible to hear or see any voice of reason on this subject. The fact that the Canadian government joined in on Russian sanctions in spite of the economic costs to our farmers, is absolute insanity.
And yet, I see no response from the public. Of course this could be the media not covering this, but then again, it could be that the Canadian Public has bought into the propaganda.
I don’t know which, but either way it is extremely disturbing

I’m Canadian too, and I agree with you that our federal government has gone off the rails. I’ve written so many emails to our ex-foreign affairs minister John Baird, I swear he quit so I’d leave him alone.
Most people I talk to do have a beef with the defunding of the health care and education systems, which are a hallmark of our country. What they fail to connect is that the bulk of the money gets siphoned to pay for our foreign interventions. Maybe they don’t want to see the truth, but maybe it’s just that by-and-large, the news you see (at least in my region of BC) is feel-good pap. What’s trending, cooking, wine-tasting, etc are regular items found on most news casts in the morning. This is news??
And when the do give a story with bite, you can bet that it’s word-for-word the exact same message woven into the story on every station. Corporate news at it’s best here! There is no independence in broadcast news in Canada, at all.
We are also fed the US stations which are largely devoid of all intelligent thought. I can’t think of one quality news broadcast, here or the US. Our only hope is the internet.

I hardly expect to get in a fight, but thought that the principles and techniques were fascinating.
Any martial art takes lots of instruction and practice, of course, but you might find this interesting, and at least good exercise — maybe even useful some time. I’d say check it out at the gym if you have a chance.

Decades ago I taught a women’s self defense class, it was pretty much a waste of everyone’s time – but I was obligated to do it.
Stay away from commercial schools, a dead give away is a ten year old black belt or any school that lets kids leave the dojo wearing a gi. These are places that sadly give a student a false sense of security.
Find a school that doesn’t want you as a student and doesn’t have profit/loss issues. Perhaps a local university has something to offer. My thought is that something with Chinese roots might be good, or a jui-jistsu. Actually, universities may even offer classes designed specifically for women’s self defense.
Many people think that these branches of martial arts require little physical strenght – the opposite is the case. It’s just that the very proficient make it look easy.
That very last thing that you want is to get an agressor male pissed of at you.
A tactic that should work is something like: stab the eyes, kick the testicles (do it right), slap both ears to rupture ear drums, run! BTW, that’s what I would do. Surprise is the key. No matter how ‘bad’ you may think you are -there’s always someone ‘badder.’
Practice until it’s second nature. I takes thousands of repetiitions before actions become muscle memory.

Elsi, some others that you could try depending on the situation: adam’s apple strike; a hard kick to the SIDE of the knee, unless a woman is very small/petite, a kick there can dislocate the knee or at least make it too painful to run after someone, and that is all you need in most situations is to be able to escape. Also, if you are wearing stillettos, jabbing down hard on a man’s foot is going to hopefully incapacitate him, again, it is NOT so much to completely disable a man, just enough to be able to escape, i.e. run faster than him.
What I would suggest is practise with someone, say a man – if married your husband – and do things very slowly – slowmo, and you need to practise enough to be able to do it almost without thinking. Many women, especially if they are attacked for the first time, naturally panic, and then do nothing or do ineffective things. Also, if they try to kick someone, maybe more in desperation, they do NOT look at what they are kicking. Even grabbing a man’s testicles and squeezing as hard as possible should enable you to break free and run.
Be aware of your surroundings, and look for a weapon, a stone, bottle, piece of wood, whatever is available: is it suitable enough. And if you have your handbag, what have you got in it that could be used as a weapon, i.e. have you got enough time BEFORE being attacked to look, although the item(s) should be memorised. If I were a woman, I would have a can of mace or something similar regardless of what law may say it is illegal.
And never forget to SCREAM.
All these things seem very good to be practised with a husband.

Hi this is ot but remember that fantastic video with music, that Saker posted about Russia being ready for war ? Well, I’ve been trying to find that video but its not available anymore…then I went to the article on saker’s blog to find the comment section because a few people knew that band..great music…and the comment section wasn’t there either ???? So two things…first does anyone have a link for that video…does it really not exist anymore or has it been taken down ? And second the name of the band ??
