The dangerous part of participating in such a scheme with such people is that they might decide on their own that it might be better for them if a person ‘stayed dead’. A patsy who is expecting blank shells and fake blood might just find themselves face down on the floor with real bullets in their back if their co-conspirators have decided upon a course of action which they perceive as having preferred results for them.
Upon reading the title of the thread, the song lyric “I’m just sitting here watching the wheels go round and round, you know I love to watch them roll” flashed into my head. Thanks. That’s not a bad choice for the music in my head for the day!
Wow- truly awesome work! Thank you many times for sharing. Music definitely is in order, along with Lennon I am hearing Debussy, mixed in with Gershwin. Ioan, you are a time traveler, and your beautiful drawings make me wonder where we could be now if World War 2 had never happened. We could have had a civilization.. ..do you see what thoughts these scenes inspire?
Yes, interesting thoughts from you, I thought on that many times, sad that we cannot turn the time back – this is the way we have to live as individuals, as nations, as civilization. What we can do is always in the present, learning the hard way and/or enjoying the beauty in small things cause large is the world and small our parcel. Thanks for your thoughts !
Thank you Serbian girl, those people are like us, they’re happy to have a rest, to talk the issues of the day, read newspapers and enjoy life – as it comes.
Having talent is sometimes a burden but mainly a tremendous joy. Looking back in time I missed many things, now I try to recover. I’m happy you liked them Eimear !
Thank you kinterra, I’m glad you liked them (if you click below the picture above on the underlined “Cafe Drawings by ioan” you can see the whole series) The figure in front ? – it could be me, it could be Dennis or anyone from the Cafe, even Anonymous.
My fear friends, you have no idea how great was my joy when this idea with cafe drawings came to my mind, I worked days after days to make these drawings as fast as possible with an enthusiasm like a child (as I am) and to deliver them to Herb who, for my great satisfaction, with the same enthusiasm, shared these drawings with you.
Thank you Saker, thank you Herb and thank you Amarynth !
ioan, thank you for a wonderful gift. I like looking at them for a long time, and have put the PDF file as a bookmark tab at the top of my browser’s main page; so I can study them again easily whenever I get the notion.
I have noticed that most of your characters have long fingers — have you ever noticed that Dr. Bashar al Assad has such very long fingers and uses his hands so expressively when he talks to his interviewers? Almost like a dancer. I like your “liars club” (telling of their biggest fish. etc,) scene with the pot-bellied stove, but the guys are tired of talking and sort of taking a break from their story-telling. They may fall asleep in that warmth.
You sense of proportion and perspective is so good that there is great depth, and your people have stories. I like that.
I will enjoy the stories you have drawn for some long time.
Thank you GrandmaR for your kind words, you have a very good spirit of observation. That is one of my favorites. Indeed, Assad has long fingers, just looked after him, today.
Oh, Straight-Bat my friend, it’s a great pleasure for me to have you here, as always. Yes, I’m doing this since my childhood. I still remember in the primary school – first grade – one day sitting in the bench, during the calligraphy hour, suddenly stand up, took a pencil and a paper with a book and left the classroom just to find myself out drawing a tree in the garden. Next day the teacher called my mom to tell her about my “bad” behavior…yeah, I wasn’t still “integrated” in the school life. Sadly, the life has come with turns and twists, so it was a time-table when I put down the pencil, pastels, paint brush. Now I have to work again, lots of ideas in my mind and time is running fast. That nostalgia is living also in my soul. If you feel the mood, come in from time to time in the Cafe ( I’ll pay the check !) or in other places of your interest.
Thank you for your visit !
ioan, my friend, do you believe in the phenomenon of peoples physically located far away but having mental connectivity (because of matching wavelength – sounds that I borrowed couple of words from Physics !)?
I believe in that, and that’s why I can confidently tell you that I have a ‘mental bridge’ with you which will continue always.
I remain busy with my own study and research (with rapidly advancing old age, I need to give a concrete shape to some of my critical thoughts with which you are conversant in this Saker forum). However, I come to the Café mainly to read posts from few old bloggers (including you, of course).
You should again pick up the pastels and paint brush as soon as possible! One request from my side – please make a set of sketches on Russian society and people – farmers in their farm, industrial workers in factory, soldiers defending their country, priests in Orthodox Church (btw, history tells us that Christianity in its original form thrived only in East European slavic societies, while Roman Catholic Church was neither Roman nor Church – it was simply a socio-political tool of Frank and Goth kingdoms/empires), mines and oil fields, forests and lakes … Hope you don’t mind !
Thanks for your invitation – will visit the Café soon and as you promised, you will have to pay the check.
Best wishes

Very well done, Ioan.
Thank you vot tak !
What if Babchenko had decided to stay “dead”?

How comforting these arrivals to this city where I studied.
Amazing drawings Ioan.
The inspiration comes from old photography and Cafe life in various places, happy you liked them.Thank you !
Beautiful sketch. :)

Thank you for the association !
Beautiful drawings! Why not for a full years’ moon calendar?
Not a bad idea, I would think about that, thank you Marcel !
Ioan has real talent!
The people in the drawings look very polite and civilised, just like the Saker Vineyard…
Thank you Serbian girl, those people are like us, they’re happy to have a rest, to talk the issues of the day, read newspapers and enjoy life – as it comes.
Really fantastic Ioan!
You could easily be a professional illustrator.
I envy your talent!
Having talent is sometimes a burden but mainly a tremendous joy. Looking back in time I missed many things, now I try to recover. I’m happy you liked them Eimear !
I’ve just had a thought.
Any chance Ioan could make a ‘postcard’ book of his drawings?
The book could be crowd funded by the Saker Community, and we could buy it when published….
I would love a copy.
I will keep that in mind, thank you !
ioan
An artist in language.
A poet in visual images.
I was concerned about your mother…..and you ….. when I thought I missed your comments for some days.
Thank you Bro 93, my mother is not in her best shape, I made these drawings meanwhile rediscovering the joy of doing them.
ioan
I’m sooo impressed! A lovely addition to the saker repertoire of talent. Who is the figure in front? You? Dennis?
It says drawings- are there more than one?

Dear ioan,
Fantastic sketches … Didn’t know that you have also this skill (apart from your poetry) !
Your drawings made me nostalgic for the past life.
Best wishes,

ioan … love the vintage effect of burgundy … maroon … deep red/brown colours. You communicate well.
Thank you Paul, I’m glad you like them !
Just noticed these Ioan. Excellent series!
Joan, beautiful work.
I know you posted a link to John Lenon’s music, but I think this French classic is a better match:
