Pepe Escobar if you ever read this: you must read Umberto Eco’s “Baudolino”, a Latin adventurer adventure against the backdrop of Emperor Frederick’s rule and then the 4th crusade. You’ll love it.
Pepe Escobar is the best, by far, no hyperbole. I especially like his lyric and song title references. One question, Pepe… How do you title a post Life During Wartime and not include “this ain’t no party, this ain’t no disco, this ain’t no foolin’ around” ?
Perfect.
Most befitting Tiago, written by David Byrne and sung by Talking Heads, again very apt.
Followed up by Psycho Killer & Same As It Ever Was.
Psycho Killer was often in the background of my mind when I lectured. Why say it again?
Once again, Pepe is one of the most informative, intelligent, decent people on the internet. God bless him.
Pepe is great but he rambles a bit. Out of the gate she said “explain what the multipolar shift is…”
And a neophyte would have to spend first 10 minutes deciphering.
He never flatly defines it. Just say “the unipolar era is xyz and now Ukraine is the trigger of a transition to xyz….”
Muchael hudson does the same thing. Lots of info but just glossing past terms and referebces without clarity
They both assume that the audience is a bit more educated than the regular joe six-pack. Cannot give you a history lesson at every talk. Time to do one’s own research, wouldn’t you think. Both are perceptive and highly informed.
FYI – it’s the interviewer who set the parameters for the discussion. Maybe you’d be better off reading them instead?
Its not rocket science Tom
Unipolar = US/UK Empire as in current situation one regime rules over all.
Multi Polar: no single country is in charge and ideally all countries have equal say and status as in the true form of the UN
Hooray, if it can be done. An unjust Western domination has gone on for far too long and to the detriment of many around the globe. I am not convinced it will go away without a struggle or even an attempt to annihilate us all from the earth. These Western rulers and conspirators, their skulls are hollow. I hope the fat head African leaders will wake up and say something at least. The AU just like the UN have outlived their usefulness if ever the was any.
Pepe is like everybody’s crazy globe trotting Uncle that pops in now & then with a beer & great stories! Nevertheless, Pepe is hands down one of the best journalists around, inclusive of proper grammar & sentence structure, something completely lacking in last 20 years due to education standards falling to rock bottom. Stephen Lendman, even older school journalism, is another. These journalists, the whole handful of them, are much appreciated. Thanks for posting.
Pepe comes up with some real “gems” to wit Austin, according to the Americans, demanded a “ceasefire” – which must have originated a Siberian cat smirk on Shoigu’s face.
Don’t forget: Lloyd “Raytheon” Austin! Who, incidentally, looks just like the boss on Dinosaurs, a very funny animated comedy from the past.
I’ve been reading Pepe since forever – I’m as excited as he is. This is a pivotal moment in history, but I don’t think it will be a multi-polar future, because the west have none.
“I don’t think it will be a multi-polar future, because the west have none.”
That is a brilliant remark, Anne. At first it sounds a bit too much. But, considering the destruction and self-destruction that they are employing in order to impede the multi-polar reconfiguration, it could be accurate.
They believe they can construct if they destroy because of their financial-industrial policies of ‘creative destruction’.
But they show no construction except to patch up the crumbling hegemony and to feudalize the alliances, turning partners into cannon fodder.
There is no path back from the wilderness if the wilderness consumes you.
Surely, the West is lost in the wilderness, a vast wasteland where systems, values, science, logic and connection to Nature have been destroyed.
Well there is the future then there is the future. It depends on where you want to put the stakes in the ground. To de-nazify Ukraine is one thing but to de-nazify the west is quite another. In the latter case I think you are looking at 10 to 20 years unless things go thermal.
Today YouTube announced they would do another purge – remove any video claiming this is a liberation- war.
I guess they’ve learned Cyrillic.
Wonderful interview with insights to world deep state
Mr. Escobar, Andrei Martyanov, Alex Christoforou, Alex Mercouris and Gonzalo Lira are men who have interesting and original thoughts on what is going on Ukraine and all across the World. With the added bonus that they are honest analysts. A rare element indeed on this debased planet.
I posted the following under one of Pepe’s previous columns, but it ties in so closely with his comments today about US bioweapons activities that I think it may be worth repeating if the mods agree …
Could the profound USG panic and efforts to scotch the detailed Russian investigation by all means have something to do with the possible exposure of the true origins of recent pandemics. The families and friends of over one million dead US Americans might be more than slightly upset upon finding out that their own government played a key role in their demise. And it would appear that even some US academics are starting to ask some upsetting questions about that very possibility.
US Professor Jeffrey Sachs of Columbia University, in an article written for the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, Professor Sachs suggests that the recent pandemic could have emerged from US experiments on viruses. He doesn’t deal with the Ukraine biolabs in particular. However, he does point out that “EHA, UNC, NIH, USAID, and other research partners have failed to disclose their activities to the US scientific community and the US public, instead declaring that they were not involved in any experiments that could have resulted in the emergence of SARS-CoV-2”. The US MoD has been even more reticent, of course:
It’s unlikely that we’ll ever learn the whole truth about the totality of the US military’s bioscience and biowarfare undertakings. We can only hope that Russia’s investigations proceed to uncover at least some of their more egregious effort in the field.

Ms. Thoma conducts a superb interview with perfect direction, timing, and moderation to enable Pepe’s broad-ranging and incisive analysis, culminating in his explanation of The Great Narrative (renamed from The Great Reset) – “a mix of eugenicism and totalitarianism … the death of democracy.”
Toward the end Ms. Thoma points to Pepe’s April 29 article, Clash of Christianities: Why Europe Cannot Understand Russia – /clash-of-christianities-why-europe-cannot-understand-russia/. She states, “the spirituality of the Orthodox people is always at odds with the West … for centuries … can this ever be mended?” This question cannot be addressed without recognizing that the reining “spiritual” faction of Judaism is actively promoting the hatred of Russians, encouraging and supporting the violence against them while purportedly “defending our values” represented by a host of institutions in the West under its economic control.
@norecovery I think you go wrong here. The “reining spiritual faction of judaism” = zionism is called “the false jews” in the bible. False christianity and false islam support the same racism, fascism.
How can a multipolar world be achieved when nothing seems to change, for instance, who does China owe its debt to? How can China have any debt when it supposedly prints its own interest free currency? Is this all theater ?
” Its data showed that China’s debt increased by $2.5 trillion over the first quarter and the United States added $1.5 trillion. ”
– Global debt about to explode – report
The tally soared to a record $305 trillion in the first quarter of this year, driven by the US and China, a researcher says –
https://www.rt.com/business/555713-global-debt-record-high/
The debt load of China has several categories. First, domestic debt, then foreign debt.
Domestic is divided into consumer debts, local governments debts and central government (SOEs) debts.
Foreign is divided into government enterprises debts and private businesses debts.
All categories are managed, controlled, used by the central government to stimulate growth and/or to temper inflation or prevent slow-downs.
Here is an in depth article from last year’s numbers, but very relevant now also.
https://www.scmp.com/economy/china-economy/article/3084979/china-debt-how-big-it-who-owns-it-and-what-next
Thank you for the info. However, “debt” implies borrowing with interest. Why would China need to incur interest when it has a massive holding of ever more worthless dollars and if it supposedly prints its own ” debt free ” currency? Based on the quote below, China issues interest incurring bonds. Once again, why would it need to that if it prints its own debt free currency ? What am I missing here ?
” In 2019, foreign investors held 2.19 trillion yuan worth of Chinese bonds. Foreign investors’ presence in China’s onshore bond market remains small, accounting for only 3.2 per cent of the total holdings. However, the proportion has risen rapidly since 2020 following China’s economic recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic and a stronger yuan, making Chinese bonds more attractive to foreign investors. “
If you have $1000.00, and want to do $2000 worth of business, you borrow the money. Debt.
The Chinese have a need to grow at a large percentage rate of growth.
To do that, they use debt.
They encouraged debt by local governments (a huge problem) and for consumers (so they would be less export dependent on growth from that source,)
If you print money, you create inflation.
They don’t want to cripple the RMB with inflation.
Do, to protect the Yuan, and to get growth rate, they use debt.
That simple.
China’s debt in RMB is largely internal to their domestic economy. It is money owed to themselves. If the debts become un-repayable they will be written off, but the infrastructure created by the Chinese workforce will still exist to its benefit. The other way of dealing with inflation is to tax the excess money and delete it back out of existence. This is exactly what US banks are required to do as the principal of their loans is repaid, except they get to keep the interest.
The interest is the ‘prizing’ on lending – a rather clumsy and stupid thing because it very fast tends to create inflation and feeds a rentier class. These are hangovers from the chinese business class in large parts being rooted in western economic thinking.
The Japanese did it better up to the seventies, there the finance ministry created pools from which the economy was supplied with the needed investsment funding, it worked perfectly until the uncle from overseas knocked the doors (due to the huge balance sheet surplus the Japanese had amassed) with bright ideas and a though stick.
I would wage the Chinese comissariat are working around the clock to prepare for the Great Western Reset that they will have to face at any moment now. The more time they have, the marrier.
In February, I told my wife that all this stuff would come to pass. If I knew it would happen…How could the West not figure it out? Impossible. Many powerful Americans/West had to know.
In 2015, it was clear that the Clinton crime family and the Biden crime family would start WWIII against Russia if they won the election. I told my (not-crime) family so, they thought I was crazy to cheer for a Trump victory.
Nowadays it’s “haven’t I told you so?”. I shouldn’t laugh, but I do.
Not just another Pepe exposition. This interview brings forth the moments of change up to this weekend, the Davos conspiracy, the war in Ukraine, the Shoigu-Austin phone call, the melange of EU initiatives, international bank and currency developments and the great culture clash of civilizations against the desperation of the West.
Loads of fresh concepts and changes described for the knowledgable and the newcomer.
Always with Pepe’s beautiful, happy personality.
Excellent resource.
I so agree -the extent of the conversation was vast, and appropriately focussed on Pepe’s train of thought through his recent articles towards a visit to Greece – which will be so important, Greece being where many of us got our introduction to the implacability of the ‘Masters of the Universe’ as the people came out so strongly for ‘Oxi!’ .. and were ignored. Thanks to the Saker team for bringing this!
Asked why there is such a difference between what people want and what their governments do, Pepe says
” One of the best illustrations of ‘democracy is dead’ is the way that the European Commission is dictating to so called sovereign nations – but not sovereign any more – the guidelines of their foreign policy . . and the subtext of all that which is even more worrying, is the Ukrainisation of Europe, the normalisation of neo-nazism in Europe which is the most worrying and toxic thing of all.”
It certainly is toxic but how many are ware of it?
Democracy is dead, all across the European Union and Pepe’s warning about EU fascism is a wake up call for of us.
Its a wake up call for everybody outside EU. I dont see anybody other than Sparta’s 300 waking up inside EU.
EU people are happy to receive hateful corrupt neo-nazi escapers from Ukraine because they drive around in expensive cars and confirm the MSM narrative that Russia is the bully and all non-Europeans are unter-menschen.
Pepe Escobar has touched on this before, but again in this interview he speaks to the Great Schism of 1054.
I think this goes to the core of the misunderstanding and mistrust between the Roman and Orthodox worlds, and led to, among so much else, the Fourth Crusade, one of history’s great crimes.
I am glad that Pepe started to look into the spiritual causes of the ‘crisis of the modern world’. The ‘crusade’ of the Judeo-Pagan West wolves deceptively clad in the sheep skin of Christianity, against the Church of Christ and its shield the Constantinian Roman Empire (improperly called Byzance).
It started well before the ‘Great Schism’ and the Fourth Crusade and continued against the heirs of ‘Byzance’, the Orthodox World, or ‘The Byzantine Commonwealth’ as felicitously named by a great historian, Dimitri Obolenski.
What we witness now is the desperate last ditch attempt by the ‘wolves’ to stop the ruin of their secular efforts to ‘cancel’ the ‘Byzantine Commonwealth’. To stop the inevitable ‘Downfall of the Occident’ (which is the real translation of the title of the famous book of Oswald Spengler ‘Der Untergang des Abendlandes’, edulcorated as the ‘Decline of the West’) which two suicidal World Wars (directed at Russia, make no mistakes) haven’t been able to stop. It is symbolic that the book was published integrally in 1922.
It is more true than ever that ‘history repeats itself, first as tragedy, second as farce. We live in full farce, conducted by real buffoons.
Now someone correct me if I am wrong, but isn’t Alaska just leased from the Russian empire?
I think it’s time to ask for this back.
No, it was sold. Ten million dollars is the widely accepted price.
The best analysis I have seen so far is by Jacques Baud:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8b8AfO1So0
According to Jacques, Biden predicted the Russian invasion for Feb. 16th because he knew that the Ukrainians would start shelling the Donbas on that day and he expected the Russians to react. At that time, the Russians still hadn’t made the decision to invade. Instead of reacting, they evacuated the population. They only invaded after Putin recognized the independent Republics on the 21st and signed a mutual assistance agreement on the 23rd to be able to come to the Republics assistance under Article 51 of the UN Charter. As always, Putin respects the law to the letter while the West just does what it wants.
It’s Russian respect for the rules that will determine the success of the multipolar world.
Western leaders are disgusting. They have no soul. They have led Ukrainians to the slaughter knowing full well that they can’t win. Zelensky’s advisor in 2019 predicted that Ukraine would have to win this war against Russia with the US’s help as a condition for getting into Nato. His detailed predictions of how the war would unfold are uncannily accurate. Kyiv and Washington have planned this all along.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwcwGSFPqIo
Now Ukraine won’t get into Nato and will lose the South of the country into the bargain. The Yanks have led Ukrainians up the primrose path. Once Ukrainians come to their senses, perhaps they’ll fly a couple of planes into the World Trade center to get even.
NATO is similar to a malignant cancer. It grows until it kills its host and everyone else.
First time i started to think something is really wrong in narrative of NATO was when it was not disbanded soon after 1992. I asked it from many friends of mine and they were not able to explain the reason. Instead they mostly repeated nonsense of “security system”. It was eyeopening moment. I found how easily people can be brainwashed.
According Keynes the rent was compensation of “abjuring liquidity”.
@Tommy Jensen:
“MSM narrative that Russia is the bully and all non-Europeans are unter-menschen.”
If this war has teach us anything of real faces of west ( EU, USA, Canada and Aussies) that is that they see all non-Europeans as unter-menschen.
Russia should stop calling itself as European but Eurasian country. Europe is not really a continent. It’s Ouzhou. An appendage. A abscess.
Transcrips I read 100% — Video -not at all ( mostly)
Me too. I very much enjoy reading Pepe, so when I saw it was a video I was sad! It’s really hard for me to imagine how most people even have TIME to listen to podcasts & interviews, much less prefer them to written words.
Especially if it’s something significant, I want to be able to copy parts of it, for future reference. Or at least scan on the article rather than wonder which part of the video something was stated in.
But we seem to be in the minority, so I just accept it – to each his own. It just always seems curious – do people listen while they’re doing something else? Or do they dislike reading…
On the other hand (it’s playing while I write this) – I love how he exclaims “WHY THE HELL does Shoigu pick up the phone?!???” etc, LOL.
If only it were so. Peace and brotherhood.
But there has never been a multipolar world.
Packs of dogs and flocks of chickens dont operate that way. There cannot be an encompassing committee running things. There is always a top dog. A pecking order. Make sure that Nazis and the WEF are not over you. That’s all the victory you will get.
