Almost unknown, then and now, with the general public and even musos; but one of the most influential albums of the 70’s.
Exactly the type of tune that had the same effect on me when I was a young musician. It opened a big unsuspected door indeed. So much outstanding music from that era… never gets old!
Thank you for this lead, Saker! It’s rare (at least for me) to come across the music that immediately flips the switch in your head and you think: “This is it; I always knew music such as this must exist, and this is how it should be arranged.” Never heard of Philip Catherine, and frankly didn’t expect to discover him on your site! A nice surprise.
Very happy to see this page Saker ! Homecomings also had a profound effect on my playing and development many years ago. I filmed that video above of Philip discussing the chords and melody on acoustic guitar in Washington D.C. in 2009. We have been friends since 1983 ! The very good news is that there is a newly released box set of 5 of Philip’s early solo albums : https://jazzineurope.mfmmedia.nl/2017/12/philip-catherine-selected-works-1974-1982-5cd-box-set-cd-review/ Thank you for drawing special attention to this very special piece of music !
