Do people seriously imagine Russia simply blundered into the Ukraine not knowing what the west would do?
You may be surprised to hear that the world is actually still spinning. All we have to deal with is the mighty Wurlitzer which is an old-style pipe organ for theaters, and also a propaganda instrument.
Allow me a moment to explain:
In 1967 the magazine Ramparts ran an exposé revealing that the Central Intelligence Agency had been secretly funding and managing a wide range of citizen front groups intended to counter communist influence around the world. In addition to embarrassing prominent individuals caught up, wittingly or unwittingly, in the secret superpower struggle for hearts and minds, the revelations of 1967 were one of the worst operational disasters in the history of American intelligence and presaged a series of public scandals from which the CIA’s reputation has arguably never recovered.
CIA official Frank Wisner called the operation his “mighty Wurlitzer,” on which he could play any propaganda tune. Hugh Wilford provides the first comprehensive account of the clandestine relationship between the CIA and its front organizations. Using an unprecedented wealth of sources, he traces the rise and fall of America’s Cold War front network from its origins in the 1940s to its Third World expansion during the 1950s and ultimate collapse in the 1960s.
Covering the intelligence officers who masterminded the CIA’s fronts as well as the involved citizen groups—émigrés, labor, intellectuals, artists, students, women, Catholics, African Americans, and journalists—Wilford provides a surprising analysis of Cold War society that contains valuable lessons for our own age of global conflict.
Now, the Mighty Wurlitzer, exposed during the cold war, has never ended. We see it in full swing now. Here are a few snippets, a few items from memory (it has to be from memory as most of the Russian sites are still down, or up or down, in a relentless cyber propaganda war and this cannot be meticulously linked to source). And you know what, the Ukraine inherited its own theater and mighty Wurlitzer, where they are designing and producing for the common man, theater productions for this current time. Excepting now, it is all done in studio with breathless journalists playing war and running around in front of green screens.
So, while the tinny and discordant theater music sometimes drowns out even our own ability to think (it is torture, you know!) let’s look at a few realities.
Sanctions. Big Big Headlines – Russia is sanctioned for this or that and for basically everything, even Vodka. The latest is SWIFT (but only for a few banks). Take a good look at the sanctions. It is paper production for the purpose of paper production. The German sanctions on Russian banks for example have fine print. (They all have). They’re sanctioning Russia from hell, but of course, this does not apply to gas or oil payments. Those will continue, says the fine print.
Sanctions on Russia are now the latest fashion accessory. The one that can play that Wurlitzer the loudest is the one who wins. So what happens if they don’t win? What happens if they are busy shooting themselves in the heart, and not even in the foot?. What happens if the fervor to punish Russia simply accelerates their own demise?
Russia is decoupling as fast as what the West is sanctioning. A headline that comes to mind is: “European Commission: The disconnection of a number of banks from SWIFT “will actually block Russian exports and imports”.
No Einstein, it will hasten de-dollarization.

‘Final review’ of Russia’s relations with West now possible – former president
Western sanctions could be an “excellent reason for a final review” of Russia’s relations with the nations that have imposed the restrictions, the deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council and former president, Dmitry Medvedev, said on Saturday.
Russia’s military operation in Ukraine, which was launched on February 24, has prompted outrage in the West and a new wave of harsh sanctions against Russia. In a lengthy post on the Russian social network VK, Medvedev called the restrictions “a myth, a figment, a figure of speech.”
“Sanctions could be an excellent reason for the final review of all relations with those states that have introduced them. Including interruption of the dialogue on strategic stability,” Medvedev wrote.
[sidebar] Take another look at that sentence – why now? It is because most of the western world do not have answers to Russia on strategic stability, so they decided to play that Wurlitzer pretty loud to attempt to hide their inability).
He added that in principle, it is possible “to renounce everything,” including the New START Treaty.
“Yes, and diplomatic relations, in principle, are not particularly needed. It’s time to close the embassies with barn locks. And to continue contacts by examining each other only through binoculars and weapons’ optical systems,” Medvedev said.
Commenting on the decision by the Council of Europe and Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe to suspend Russia’s membership, the former president said that while this is a “flagrant injustice,” it could still be considered as a good reason “to finally slam the door and forget about these meaningless almshouses forever.” This development could also be used to “restore a number of important institutions for prevention of especially serious crimes in the country,” he said, such as the “death penalty for the most dangerous criminals, which, by the way, is being actively used in the United States and China.”
He has no assets abroad and to the UK sanctions against Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova wrote:
“Neither Putin, nor Lavrov have accounts neither in Britain nor anywhere abroad. Maybe the kingdom’s government got something frozen off rather than it froze something?”
We are in a new world.

Russia has just suspended cooperation with NASA on the international space station .. including the launch team which will not be available to the US. Russia will work with China. Zap! Are there any US astronauts there at the moment? I don’t know, but Elon Musk will have to get them home.

The President of Russia gave the President of China a detailed account of the reasons behind the recognition of the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Lugansk People’s Republic and the start of a special military operation to protect civilians from genocide and ensure the demilitarisation and denazification of the Ukrainian state. Vladimir Putin also noted that considering the signals received from Kiev he was ready to send a delegation to Minsk to hold talks with representatives of Ukraine.
☝️ Xi Jinping stressed that he respected the actions of the Russian leadership in the current crisis.
The two Leaders assessed the current international situation from a common perspective. They reaffirmed a mutual readiness to closely cooperate and support each other further at the UN and in other multilateral platforms.
Held at Kyrgyzstan’s initiative, the telephone conversation (https://is.gd/Ppnjou) between President Vladimir Putin and President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov focused on the situation with the special military operation carried out by Russia in Ukraine.

The Ukraine is dancing to the music of the Mighty Wurlitzer. Don’t you do that too! Turn the music off. Zone B is way behind Zone A in playing the organ, but way ahead in creating a life friendly to human people, for this planet.
Margarita Simonyan focused on the 5th and 6th columns with a devasting phrase:

And in the event that you are worried about China, they just posted this from their Russian embassy. They truly understand that this time it is Russia, but for the throw of a set of dice, or a different tune on the Wurlitzer, it could have been China.
Oscar Wilde used to say “Truth is entirely and absolutely a matter of style”. Don’t know if I agree but I understand the motivation for saying it. Certainly perceived truth is, but everyone approaches a situation as it interacts with
our own sense of who our clan is and how it fits into the picture. Like they say about the Jewish way to look at it;
“But is it good for the Jews”. within that framework, history and perceived truth are just pawns in service of your clan. I can’t step outside of myself and look at complex things in the human condition. Truth is only is math, and even there, within logical systems big enough to contain arithmetic, some true things are not able to be proved.
To culture, good and bad are some cosmic conflict between righteousness and evil, while in nature, they are the basic biological binary of beneficial and detrimental. The 1/0 of sentience. This is because a culture has to function as one, as a a herd.
EU and US Agree To Expel Russia From SWIFT and Sanction the Russian Central Bank
However, Eddie Fishman of US Office of Economic Sanctions Policy and Implementation said:
“If the US and Europe decided to cut Russians banks off from SWIFT, they could still transact with US and European financial institutions. Such a move will just increase the use of Russia’s own System for Transfer of Financial Messages (SPFS).”
Iran and North Korea are already cut off from SWIFT, but that has not stopped China from buying millions of barrels of Iranian oil despite the sanctions. Russian Banks can instead use the Russian or Chinese payment systems and communicate internationally via email.
In other words, the sanctions are toothless.
This means that the SWIFT measure is empty threats used as war propaganda.
Regarding the supposed sanctioning of the Russian central bank.
The White House has stated that “having lost the support of the Russian Central Bank due to sanctions, the ruble will go into free fall.”
However, the Russian central Bank has for decades been building up a war chest to withstand the harshest sanctions. Russia has been steadily selling its Dollar holding for the past 4 years, while adding Gold to its wealth fund. Russia keeps 22% of its wealth fund in gold, which is held domestically and out of reach of western sanctions. The Russian central bank still holds 16.4% of its wealth fund in Dollars. The euro’s share is at 32.2%, while 13% are in yuan.
Once again empty threats by the US used as war propaganda.
The Biden administration has also announced a Transatlantic task force to “hunt down and freeze the assets” of Russian companies and oligarchs — including “yachts, mansions, and any other ill-gotten gains that we can find and freeze.”
However, back in 2018 Cyprus froze bank accounts held by wealthy Russian Citizens.
As a consequence, today very few Russians have assets in western Banks.
Once again empty threats by US and EU used as war propaganda.
The German government said in a statement Saturday that it has agreed to the supply of 400 German-made rocket propelled grenades to Ukraine via the Netherlands, along with 14 armored personnel carriers, as well as 1000 anti-tank weapons and 500 Stinger missiles. It will also supply 10,000 tonnes of fuel via Poland.
Taking into account that Germany via its weapons supply to Ukraine is now supporting war against Russia, and couple with a possible SWIFT expulsion of Russia, this could spark an overnight cutoff of Russian gas via NS1 to Germany in retaliation.
If so it would exert a crippling blow to the German and European economy.

The more of these “sanctions” are applied, the healthier Russia will be in the long term. And why? For the exact same reason the USA is desperate to conquer Russia – its immense reserves of natural resources.
And the most vital resource of all: the Russian people, with their creativity, intelligence, hard work and persistence.
The truth is all important. We know we have been degraded as sentient beings when we equivocate about whether there is such a thing as truth.

I gain some relief from knowing that former colleagues “way out west” are not so easily misled – which is why they abandoned NSW Health in the first case!
The few locals I speak with on a regular basis are justifiably concerned. Thoughts are turning towards “is this the start of something unstoppable”. I don’t think the West senior command is quite that stupid / naïve, and that WW3 isn’t on the cards (just yet), but like everyone else I don’t really know, and the lack of certainty is very unsettling.
It is worth reading Peter Hitchens in his Mail on Sunday column. Not everyone in the UK is fully dumbed down just yet – being told what to think failed to keep them in the EU.

Peter Hitchens ends up some of his articles on Russia with a comment that he was in Russia in the 1980s, thereby aiming to underpin his narrative that he knows what he is talking about. But that is self-deluding. His experiences of the USSR in the 1980s is not a qualifier for understanding the nature of Russia today, in particular to the fact that a whole generation of Russians grew up under totalitarianism as kids and have vowed never to allow this system to apply in Russia again. But Peter Hitchens mentions in one article “that he knows full well just how evil the leaders are in the Kremlin of today.”
I have to give Peter Hitchens the benefit of the doubt. I take the view that “the more you know, the more you realise just how much you dont know” and Peter Hitchens is, at least in some areas, willing to understand both sides of a topic….which most of his ‘professional journalist’ colleagues are simply not capable of.

The US for sure has this as well and much of my war knowledge came from Vets. We lived near a base for a Number of years and Many of the people I new were disgusted. In the pivot east they moved a lot of the Planes out west. Now the people on the Islands get windows dishes and other things broken on a regular basis. These people clearly understand they do not matter.

Excellent article for today’s events which featured the diplomacy aspect of the current project. I’m not affected by the music of the Wurlitzer (I really dislike organ music anyway), but it is certainly loud and ubiquitous in the ‘west’.
I especially liked Medvedev’s remarks. His demeanor almost made him look like a larger Putin with more hair. The gauntlet is thrown back, but, apparently, it contains an IED. The ‘west’ does not know whether to shit or go blind, as we used to say in Texas.

People have never been taught to think critically. Critical thinking has always been a heresy preached by the damned. And just look where it got Socrates! People have always been taught using parables, catechisms, (actual) icons, morality plays, prayer books, and platitudes. Critical thinking is hard, requiring self-reflection and self-doubt. The Wurlitzer requires none of that.

How will they face this challenge when all their defenses had failed them?

“The following is a status report of what appears to be happening at this time (2022. 02. 27 at 12:00 noon Kiev time) in the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
I am trying to be as realistic as possible. I mean no disrespect or animus to either the Ukrainian side or the Russian side. I am not in any sense questioning the bravery of the soldiers of any nation, nor do I mean to give any offense. I live permanently in Ukraine, I love the Ukrainian people, and my children are Ukrainian citizens. In what I am about to say, I am trying to give a realistic, sober assessment of the current state of play.
The Russians have entered the center of Kharkiv, I know this from eyewitness accounts of people that I know there. There is small arms fighting, but generally light resistance. In the south, Kherson has fallen and the Russian army seems to have captured Zaporozhia. It seems clear that Dnipro will be reached within 3 to 5 days. At this time, Kiev is being surrounded by Russian tanks. There is sporadic small arms fire outside the city, but no big battles.
The Russian strategy seems to be to encircle the cities, while destroying military installations. The vast majority of civilian infrastructure in the areas under attack have been untouched and are functioning normally. It also seems very clear that the Russians have used their older equipment and less experienced soldiers in this initial assault. Very few of the high-tech modern weaponry that the Russians possess are being used in this first push. This would lead one to believe that the Russians want to probe and exhaust Ukrainian defenses before bringing out top-tier men and materiel.
The Russians are being incredibly disciplined insofar as their information management is concerned. The only information coming out of the Russians comes directly from the Ministry of Defense or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Their information so far has been 100% accurate, which I think is a deliberate strategy. There has been a great deal of Ukrainian propaganda that turned out to be complete fantasy, but even after these stories have been proven to be false, people cling to them.
At the current pace of operations, the Russians will completely capture Ukraine within 7 to 14 days. They are winning, and winning decisively. Maps comparing the US invasion of Iraq in 2003 to this current mechanized invasion show that the Russians are outpacing the Americans by a substantial margin. And as I said, they are using their second-tier men and weapons, and they did not use air power to soften Ukraine for several weeks, as the Americans did in 2003. Any claims that the Ukrainians are winning or holding back the Russians is complete fantasy.
This is the current state of play as I perceive it at this time.

I am not worried about heavy weapons or airplanes. This war will be decided with handheld antitank weapons and antiair missiles. With added NATO communications and intel. That is why NATO is rushing Stingers and Javelins to Ukraine. It is an escalation that is meant to increase civilian casualties, or at least doesn’t mind. The west intends to fight to the last Ukrainian. They want street battles. Is Russia aware? How do you counter such a strategy?
Same as in Syria. They will be careful will close air combat and they will relay on guided bombs and rockets, which can be delivered by aircrafts or drones out of the range of stingers. And NATO needs trained soldiers to operate them. Some civilians, just carrying it around, won’t help them that much.
