Russian President Vladimir Putin delivers his state-of-the-nation address to the Federal Assembly of Russia in Moscow on December 3rd, 2015.
The Address is an annual event and is traditionally delivered at the Kremlin’s St George Hall where the president gives his speech to members of both houses of parliament, filling them in on his own views with regards to guidelines for the development of the nation.
The invited audience usually includes members of the Federation Council, State Duma deputies, members of the Government, the heads of the Constitutional and Supreme Courts, regional governors, heads of regional legislative assemblies, heads of Russia’s traditional religious faiths, and public figures, including heads of regional public chambers and the heads of the country’s biggest media outlets.

I always liked Mr. Putin. He’s tells it like it is. Compared to the manure we have here in the states, on all levels of government.

I never believed (after a month) that it would happen. Once the Turks started the “er,er,er”s,I saw the “handwriting on the wall”. Really,how hard can it be for Russia to understand that a NATO stooge (any NATO stooge) will “never” defy the empire and live.The reason they are NATO stooges is because the US controls their every movement. And if they step out of line they are yanked back into line quickly. Russia needs to stop thinking a NATO state will defect. If they couldn’t get Greece, Hungary,or Slovakia to defect. How on earth can they expect France or Germany will do so.The only way that could happen is if new governments come to power in those countries.Or a massive US collapse and/or military defeat sets them free. This was a truly remarkable speech. Here stands the leader of the supposed axis of the anti-AngloZionist-Empire and delivers a technocrat summary which also could be given in a afternoon meeting in Brussels.
I get it, he is forced to be manager and as such has to deal with the vast micro-management of a huge country, owed not to a small amount to his incompetent liberal ministers and administration (Siluanov/Nabiullina); esp. on matters that concern the macroeconomy i.e. monetary policy, industrialization, technology and science. The economic house is gradually eroding away; the economic cliff or resource appendage status are not so far away as the usual suspects want us to believe.
Where is Khazin, Glazyev, Katacanov? Those who even have an idea of an macroeconimic approach (f.e. MMT, anybody?) are lightyears away from the actual administration. How many blows does Russia need to realize its only allies are its army, fleet and own economy.
Where are the big ideas/projects (just take a look at China or travel to Shenzhen…everything the Russians do in comparison is a sad joke)?
Russia is a giant (has all the resources, energy and manpower – I live in Germany and had the opportunity to visit many industrial plants which are existing proof of what automation with a small workforce can produce and build) waiting for the mythical dollar tree at the FED to bless them with the magic paper of the chosen people. Instead more of “the budget deficit cannot be above 3%”, really? The government is not a houswive in a household, it creates currency. How do you all think the US is maintaining its Empire, yes by emitting dollar and trading it for real goods and services – idiots who accept it as payment and turning it into US treasuries. Russia on the other hand would have to build up production volume, investment in productive assets to control for inflation.

Yes you are right. The key to everything is the economy. If they don’t change it (soon),then all else is worthless for the future. I’ve been waiting to see that since 1991. But all I see are “teasers” and half-measures. No one in power has the strength (or maybe will) to do it. And those with the will,don’t have the power. Its much like the last years of the USSR. It wasn’t that there weren’t many brilliant thinkers working on plans for reform. It was that those thinkers couldn’t get those in power to adopt their ideas. China,for whatever reason (I suspect because Deng Xiaoping,had the vision and ruthlessness to champion the reforms) made the reforms needed. And now are an economic superpower.While the USSR crumbled away. The irony is that China was considered before then as the more dogmatic of the two Communist giants. The one that would never have the strength to make the needed changes. But it all (as most of history does) depends on a single person able to mobilize the best people in a society around them. And challenge history if need be to reform their nation. Those able to do that survive. Those not able to,are destroyed. The jury is still out on the Russia of today.

When are you all going to catch on? Russia is Russia. She isn’t American, Nor UK, nor AmeroZionist West. Nor indeed Chinese. OK? She’s RUSSIAN.
Why is this so hard to grasp?. Russia had enormous issues in 1999. The turn around in 15 years has been nothing short of phenomenal. But – it didn’t come at a huge price of ruthlessness. Of thousands dead. Of abuse, repressive state control. It came at the same time it was developing as a country, unified, and whole. Of learning once again to have pride in itself, and love for all Russians no matter their ethnicity or religion. It came as part of a process towards what Putin called “The Dictatorship of Law”. That, alone among all other nations, including especially China and the West, meant that no oligarch would be thrown into jail, let alone a gulag, if there was no evidence to prove a law broken. Even in his speech today, President Putin has emphasised the need to have compassion for the young and silly, while cutting out corruption, and providing always for the poor in their midst.

They are “always right”. The criticism will never stop.
Putin could sweep all the Constitutional power, attempt to fix it, but there is a good maxim he adheres to: Strong leader makes weak People.
He does not want to leave behind a dictatorship of leadership nor a dictatorship of ideas.
There are solutions that are not even being applied at the local level. People are mulish, wanting to be hit with stick to move.
The real problem is the lengthy time of bad practices before Putin took charge. Endemic inertia, corruption, envy, stupidity and alcoholism have taken their toll. He has had to reform and reinvigorate the nation.
Slowly, enough Russians will understand that they have to take hold of their own destiny and protect the society and one another’s futures from the onslaught of terror, destabilization, corruption and crime. It is the same in any mature nation. Just as the professionals in Syria are on the line for Mother Russia, the civilians have to take on the threats and problems at home.
Putin refuses to be a dictator. He understands that the nation has to be more flexible if it is to grow, prosper and defend itself into the future.
There are many role models for Russians: Putin, Shoigu, Rogozin are a trio of outstanding qualities. There are many, many men and women in Russia who are exemplary. They have to inspire and lead. Crisis time, not a time to bitch and moan. It’s a time to get the job done.
They even go after Shoigu.. I saw an article where they said his daughter lives in an 18 mil US$ mansion.. and how everyone around putin is like that.. I don’t know how much truth is there in things, but I know that corruption makes one weak.. We might have-not liked the Nazi’s but most of them were NOT corrupt and they believed in their ideals no matter how twisted.. And we can see this everywhere we look, because corrupt bureaucrats are not looking out for anyone else but themselves and makes everything inefficient because the more inefficient something is, the more bribes and power they get.. Seeing how organized and streamlines he has made the military I don’t think he is corrupt, as he would not have been able to instill the discipline needed for that on others if he himself did not follow it.

It would appear that you are affected by your framing based on notions of “exceptionalism” sometimes manifested as “the great man/woman in history”.
It would also appear that you project holograms of your expectations/prejudgements by way of:

It would appear that you have limited if any experience in strategy evaluation and formulation, of understanding that the Russian Federation is not restricted to one person, and that games including chess infers resort to linear strategic options, or symmetries if this aids understanding.
Every punch affords opportunity, but not every opportunity requires response, patience often being a virtue.
As above neither omniscience nor sole/primary agency exists and hence planning in the way you apparently perceive will typically give rise to surprises – sometimes obfuscated under the terms of unintended consequences or collateral damage – as the opponents attest by their efforts in surveillance state, big data and full spectrum dominance.

Probably not as tired as I am of people thinking that talking about problems needing to be fixed is somehow being “anti-Russian or anti-Putin”. I’m really sick of it. Oh man this is really annoying. First I have no typical western mindset, my own familly history is tied to Russia’s you wouldn’t even guess it. From what is now called Poland and Bavaria two generations away moved to what is called now the artificial state of the Ukraine then forcefully to Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan then finally Kirgisistan. My own relatives died in building the Siberian railway in the so called “trud army” and persecuted for its Christian sectarian believes. What do I want to tell by this? There is destinct hatred left for Russia left in my family without having the regard for what was a historical tragedy of massive proportions. BECAUSE of this I really want to see a prosperous and a just Russia that should avoid any ethnic strife and crisis.
Everyone is using the current crisis for his or her own benefit. From the nationalist, Bolschewiks (like The Saker writes in his book) to harcore neoliberals. The AZ empire uses every available means to subvert Russias economy (just listen or read the economic statistics Glazyev provides). The liberal onslaught in the 90s was truly horrific for the Rissian people. Many liberals try really hard to reverse all the progress that was made. The policies now are reminiscent of that (like the pension age policy), but most importantly, Russia still remains firmly integrated into the West’s financial system. Russian duma politician still think they can return to dollar creditation as if nothing has happened (Khazin has on the spot commentary on this). The biggest weakness remains Russia’s economy. Color revolution technologist now that. There is sick cynical game getting played by Russian liberals who lay all the fault at the supposedly so called patriotic economic policy linking it to Putin. Finance from the West is gone but being dependent on foreign credit ir investment, by whoever shouldn’t be the goal. Just ask yourself would have Russia won the 2nd WW by not mobilizing its economy? I don’t call for new gulag policy just to be smart about it. The abundance of natural resources should be foremost used for Russia’s population and not for export. The vision and the corresponding national economic policy is missing (hundrends of thousands of Russian scientist emigrated because of the lack of funding!). What only few seem to get is the potential of the Russian people.
China had Deng Xiao Peng who could use a very ruthless communists party mashine to first sell his population to foreign “investors” and a Chinese economic elite which understood how to develop its monetary policy (mainly crediting the national economy through its banking system – just take a look at its huge credit portfolio which has a big real estate component).
People like Khazin get it, that it is a political economy first which is a relationship between people. Saker did interview him and I spent many hours watching other economist analysis (like Delyagin). If Russia wants a alternative system she shouldn’t delay anymore and concentrate on projects (like the vostochni spaceport) and finally make the funding available for that by not taxing to get an embarrassing budget and spending a fraction of it to fund important projects but by spending money into existence and control for inflation by all the different economic tools available to state (in the simplest terms possible: most currrency would flow to payments of workers and therefore you should increase all the production volume of all products typical workers buy. One possible measure out of many to choose from). From a technological/ energy centric viewpoint Russia should concentrate on automation (and not on the consumerist death cult way, by refocusing on that you don’t need a billion people – and become an economic/technological giant with proportions the world never experienced in the past).
So don’t tell me I want to bash or sneer Russia, Putin or I should stop my “silly”, “troll” polemics aka Larchmonter445. There is substance to what I write.

Yes, Rublev, there is a legitimate (IMHO) argument to be made for Putin’s cautious approach. I think Alexander Prokhanov summed it up pretty well yesterday [listen to his statement [Rus] at: 2:09:26 http://russia.tv/video/show/brand_id/21385/episode_id/1255725/video_id/1415687/).
I try to have the finger on the pulse of the ‘Zeitgeist’. In the past I read / watched / listened as much information / presentations / debates as I could to get a full picture on different topics, esp. concerning Russia. If you do that you will stumble upon the freaks in Washington for example, who (I don’t know when in the 2000s exactly) declared that the US has reached nuclear primacy over Russia and what it meant for its foreign policy – or papers of the Rand Cooperation, which described how a nuclear first strike could look [SAR capabilities to hydrophones, which could be employed to find Russian ICBM weapon systems] like – or on a presentation of the MIT STS: Theodore Postol, who talks about the woefully inadequate missile warning system in Russia – all this combined leads you only to one conclusion: The faster Russia reaches parity in all spheres with the AZ-Empire the safer Russia and the rest of the planet will be (from f.e. maniacs, who thought about using nuclear weapons on Russia as soon as the USSR broke the back of the Nazi army).
In my opinion a strong economy, which enables a solid scientific and technological base for Russia, is a question of survival.
(In the 90s Russia lost 100
s of technologies and with them the professional workforce. Now it even has to turn to China to get the electric power cables too power Crimea; just one more example how important the economy and its technolgy spectrum to the national security really is. Another reason why integrating the EEU bloc is of utmost importance / too put it in classical economic terms: too increase the differentiation of labour – therefore a higher specialization and sophistication of the labour force can be reached.)

Your point is correct and valid in my humble opinion. And I am also happy not to wear Mr. Putin’s trousers with all the burden in the pockets, but instead enjoying the luxury of “smart comments” without real consequences. My honest prayer for Wisdom and Prudence is my only contribution at the moment…
I also had this hectic geo-pol-history fever in order to Understand. And in my mid 30’s I am learning to focus more on positive & real things in life, instead of non-stop mind-march through this toxic pseudo-reality…

Russia must not become like the West” a civilisation based on aggression domination, exploitation and destruction. Humanity must move away from this present mode of being and must make a serious paradigm shift. I sincerely hope that Russia wilh all those people -wherever they live on Earth- who are awake, conscious of what is at stake can lead the transition that is necessary to enter a new chapter in human evolution. But today there is a diabolic violent force standing at Russia’s door. Its only aim is the destruction of Russia. You are misunderstanding the criticisms many of us have. They are meant to be constructive or at least objective. It is likely that the hundred richest men in Russia could almost all be put in prison for their activities in the past, but none are. A Dictatorship of the Law where the top hundred are exempt is strange. A fish rots from the head. We understand the pragmatic reasons for not doing it, but it is a big issue. The reason the evidence of criminality is not gathered is because of the desires to maintain friendship with the oligarchs. We are not saying that Russia needs to become oppressive internally. In fact, the country would become less troubled as far as the masses go if the Dictatorship of the Law included the powerful.
What we are saying is that Russia is at war, and the response on the economic, financial, and technological side makes many of us worry. Keeping all the pro-Western neoliberals all over the place is a big red flag. In war, economic carrots don’t always work. Russia tried to win over the Ukraine and Turkey with all kinds of favorable economic deals. Has it worked, or was it lost money, time, and political capital? And were all those deals made because there is a business mafia in Moscow, one that doesn’t care about the strategic concerns of the country? We aren’t talking about Putin, we are talking about the way business is done in Russia. Putin has done a very good job of things like modernizing the military and really restoring the country as a whole.
In my opinion, pro-Russian blogs have had very little constructive criticism of Russia and what needs to be done. When Russia’s approach to gas pipelines to the EU ran into a wall a few years ago, what did Russia do? Was it correct? Just asking. When Russia said it would switch to Turkishstream, many of these blogs were praising the Kremlin’s brilliance. And billions of euros has been spent on pipes and equipment that are not being used. Cynics would argue that Russia is like Greece, it wants the EU, but just doesn’t like what the EU is. It likes Turkey, it just doesn’t like what Turkey is.
So we need a lot more critiques of things like Russia’s strategy regarding the EU, the Baltic States, the Ukraine, and Turkey. You only learn from your mistakes. And it isn’t an attack on Putin. He isn’t and wasn’t a dictator.
To Paul II post: This mirrors my opinion perfectly. And Ann just think of the term “AngloZionist-Empire”; I was also put off by this term at first. All the alarm bells rang (esp. for Germans where everything concerning the Jewish experience still is a very sensitive subject) when I read it for the first time on this blog but reading the argument ‘The Saker’ made convinced me that an argument can be had about this. Conclusion: Putin is waiting for an offer that sooner or later the West will make. An offer to Putin to fight terrorism together but on American terms. This will mean dumping Assad. Putin will accept it as it would be the only option with a semblance of face saving. France with its nice talk is softening Putin up. It is a bait that ties Putin’s hand in Syria and opens Syria to the West. Turkey plays teh role of a bad cop. I would expect some sparks fly on Syria-Russia line. Some orchestrated incident to help Putin renege on promises made to Assad.

People who keep going on and on about how Putin is being fooled or bullied by NATO members are quite imbecilic. Some things to consider:
a) Russia is just one powerful country. But no more than that. No superpower, no Empire, no financial behemoth.
b) Russia is outgunned in every conceivable way imaginable by NATO, which comprises basically all the rich/advanced/parasitic/imperialist world.
c) Despite a) & b) Russia is still fully in the game. I would also add that Russia has in fact the upper hand for the time being.
d) NATO’s narrative has at least partially crumbled. Both in Ukraine and in Syria. I mean, now even part of the sheeple has realized that ISIS is a hoax.

I mean what did you expect? That a major NATO member would suddenly team-up with Russia, and not only that, do it openly? That is beyond absurd.

g) The point is, how are they to escalate without:

Well, the only non-extreme scenarios (relatively speaking that is) that I can thing of:
1) Keep bombing the deserts and some Syrian government infrastructure, keep scaling up the supplies to both ISIS and the “moderates” and drag this out for as long as possible in the hope that Russia will eventually be worn out, or that if victory ever comes for Russia, it will be at a high price.
2) Provide back-up for some kind of Turkish invasion of Northern Syria.
We shall see. But I though that Lavrov’s comments after meeting the Turkish FM were quite ominous. Also ominous is the size of NATO forces being sent in the region as well as well as ships from the 6th Fleet entering the Black Sea.
What I really like about Putin/Russia is the way he – using truth and relevant facts – exposes and blows away the evil, criminal liars in Western Governments, and they have NO response except their usual pathetic & whining BS.
Now, Western Governments, especially the USG, have absolutely NO excuse about Turkey’s complicity and criminality in the oil transfers and ISIS.
