First, the leaders of the Russian Duma have decided to send a Parliamentary delegation to the USA to meet with their counterparts in Congress. The intention here is clearly to lobby for a ‘no’ vote to Obama’s request for a Congressional approval for a US attack on Syria.
Second, the Russian Navy is sending a specialized intelligence ship – called the Priazovie – to the waters off the Syrian coast to boot Russian intelligence capabilities.
This are the type of “hope for the best but prepare for the worst” kind of steps which I expect Russia to continue to be taking for the next week or so.
The Saker
Saker, do you think the US or Israelis would sink a Russian ship ‘by accident?’
Supposing Syrian defenses are better than expected as a result of real time intel and radar data from Russian ships (assuming they provide it, which is not yet certain)?
Is the empire going to just accept that as the cost of doing business?
Sorry to keep pepering you with questions, but this topic has really possessed me over the past 10 days.

I believe there a huge “false flag” event is about to happen. Regardless of the vote of Congress, they still need to horrify the American public and bring in the UK. I hope that there are enough people around who’ll have hard evidence to expose it.
The Russian delegation is a good idea. I hope they will put it to Congress that, if they are prepared to make military strikes on ethical grounds, they ought to be the same regardless of who turns out to have committed atrocities, even if the guilty parties turn out to be their own allies- Al Quaida, Israel and/or the Saudis. What’s been conspicuously missing in the rhetoric coming out of Washington is that the moral outrage is directed at Assad only. Would they support air strikes if the guilty party turned out to be someone else?
I think we all know the answer to that, but perhaps the Russians can at least expose the hypocrisy and false moral posturing.
I think the House is pretty evenly divided on the matter, but the Senate is almost entirely controlled by warmongering Zionists.
@Lysander:Saker, do you think the US or Israelis would sink a Russian ship ‘by accident?’
You can never tell what crazies can try, but these are extremely well defended ship, especially with top of the line air defense radars, guns and missiles. Not to mention a lot of firepower. I really doubt anybody would be crazy enough to try.
A Moskva class guided mssile cuiser lead task force is not the same as the isolated USS Liberty and, unlike the Americans on the Liberty, the Russians will be on high alert.

Alas, it pains me to admit that you are right. Hezbollah did get the war in Bosnia completely wrong, as did Iran. But considering the hysterical propaganda and political pressure, I don’t hold it against them. But yes, they also got conned…
@Sky:I think we all know the answer to that, but perhaps the Russians can at least expose the hypocrisy and false moral posturing.
Yes, in fact I expect even *more* Russian intelligence systems to be deployed before the shooting starts. But the combination of advanced guided missile cruisers and intelligence vessels, AWACS aircraft and satellites, lurking attack submarines trailing USN ships, combined with lots of assets on the ground will give them an extremely good and detailed intelligence “cover” of the battlefield. My guess that a lot of that will be passed on to the Syrian, some in the form of early warning.
