When the Canadian govt funds it’s creatives, the norm generally becomes mediocrity.

Just an anecdote. I had worked for a consulting firm which had some people from Russia working for it. In passing conversation one day another programmer mentioned that one of them was working on a COBOL compiler, which he was debugging by running it in his head to generate machine code from source. He was not a ‘savant’, but an excellent programmer. Russians are very good at math, science, and computers.
Meticulous and seemingly factual report but it stops haltingly 2/3 through. This happens to me repeatedly and also on John Batchelor show videos (critical videos when hyperlinked appear as “Video Not Available”‘). Does this happen to others, too? Is this a sign that you’re getting into truths too close to a CIA or NSA nerve?
Some kind of bandwidth thing looks like. I could load it to play it but it downloaded OK — about 116 MB.
Should have been could *not* load it…
I get similar with Bachelor show.
I’m now using flash video downloader or downloadhelper, with firefox, btw.
I download almost all serious videos to play them off line.
