Okay, maybe al-Jazeera is too biased against the Gaddafi regime to credibly report facts on the ground. But this time the information is also confirmed by Russian and Iranian sources (nevermind the entire Western press corps): the Gaddafi compound in Tripoli has been taken and pro-Gaddafi forces appear to be on the retreat.
Whatever the possible tactical moves, there is exactly zero evidence that Saif al-Islam’s boasting about ‘having lured the insurgency into a trap” has any factual basis. It appears that both sides are equally unable to say anything truthful about what is happening on the ground, nevermind what might happen tomorrow.
As I said many times before, I am not at all a Libya specialists and I don’t know this country at all, so it is particularly frustrating to deal with a deluge of lies from both sides.
Has any of you found some halfway decent information source about what is happening in Libya?
Thanks,
The Saker
On Libya all I have been able to clearly establish is that overall people (including me of course) seem to know less about it than about any other place on earth. Whatever consensus of “informed opinion” emerged at any time during the last 6 months, it was always put on its head right afterwards. Ergo caution is advised on all remaining Libyan certainties as well, such as “the tribes” “Al Qaida” and so on…
Plus one more thing: the Libya campaign has finished off not only Gaddhafi as a dictator, but also the “Voltaire Network” as news source with a modicum of credibility. As far as wild fabulations go, Thierry Meyssan must win the prize: he really did claim this past weekend that the Emir of Qatar had had a fake Green Square erected in Doha so that the fall of Tripoli could be simulated for Al Jazeera and Co. It’s rather sobering what has happened lately to the Voltaire Newtwork, also as regards Syria. It’s the old story of not biting the hand that feeds you…
“As I went back through the Pentagon in November 2001, one of the senior military staff officers had time for a chat. Yes, we were still on track for going against Iraq, he said. But there was more. This was being discussed as part of a five-year campaign plan, he said, and there were a total of seven countries, beginning with Iraq, then Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Iran, Somalia, and Sudan.” General Wesley Clark
Hey Saker,
This is a video of the Al Jazeera faked green square.
