Dear friends,
I will be honest – I need a break. And since Orthodox Christians will be celebrating Holy Paskha this coming Sunday, I have decided to “more or less close down” the blog for a few days. Meaning that if I have some time, I might post something (especially if something big happens). But other than that, please consider us all on break.
I am not sure when I will resume blogging, but sometime during Bright Week (the week after Holy Paskha), probably after Wednesday May 4th.
Guys, if at all possible, pretty please do not email me unless this is really important or time critical, okay?
Hugs to all,
The Saker
PS: I leave you with an amazing singer I have recently discovered, Taisia Krasnopevtseva. Enjoy!
A most blessed and wonderful holiday to you and yours :-)
Melancholy is one of the deceptions Saker.
I am fascinated by your comment. Who is being deceived by melancholy? Can you say more?
K
Wow! What a singer! Grabs your soul! Thanks for sharing! Spasibo!
Doesn’t it? She has a truly ethereal and haunting voice.
It’s just made to soundtrack an epic Russian movie.
Tell us! What´s that woman´s name in Western letters? I can´t read the Cyril alphabet…
When she started singing i thought Oh GOD she is even better than Ireland´s Sinead O´Connor!
A voice “ethereal” but also forceful and archaic wherever the song demands it, as in the second piece which sounds like an ur-old shepherd´s call or something like that… or deliberately “artless”, like a little peasant´s kid, as in that piece where she claps hands.
This singer MUST travel to Germany to give concerts. If she came to Paderborn or Detmold I´d surely see her, and so would the three East European physician collegues from my clinic… one vfrom Kirgistan, one from Poland, one from Bulgaria… we all would love this music. World music – not from USA as all the years before but from great old Russia, today´s Unknown Gem of Earth.
In sleep I would dream of meeting her on a walk in some park or in the fields, and spontneously start to sing with her. I never sung for the public but I know for sure we´d sound great together. But I suppose there are thousands of women with this deep musical feeling and similar voices in East Europe and Russia – I´d only need to have a holiday in rural Russia to sing with one of them… see, the dream I´d keep when awake again is:
I will visit Russia!
@EVERYBODY: Thanks for your replies. I will try to hang out here and at the Moveable Feast Cafe if/when I have a minute.
Hugs,
The Saker

Χριστός Ανέστη (Христос Воскрес )
Have a peaceful and restful R&R. And don’t forget Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Russian Easter Festival”, that masterpiece of canticles of the Orthodox Church where the “gloomy and mysterious evening of Passion Saturday opens up to the unbridled pagan merrymaking on the morning of Easter Sunday” as the composer described. Listening to it, one feels elevated and taken away by angels to the waiting maids of heavens.
Dennis would approve that.

Relax, Saker. We all have duties and need a rest. Here comes some very old Swedish music. You will recognize some of the performers and with your language abilties you will understand some words. Ay in English and Oey (as opposed to oc) in old northern French have an equivalent in the North (but a double meaning, yes and outch). The English translation could be better, but it has to do. The song is old.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHrMABpeZSU
Magnus was king of Sweden, Finland, Norway, Iceland, Greenland and parts of present day Russia. Rome forced him to fight Novgorod in the 14th century against his will (he lost). The song about Magnus, more than 600 years old, is derogatory. Magnus is painted as a man not grown up enough to handle his wife, Bianca of Namur. According to the Russian Orthodox Church, Magnus converted to the Russian Church on his deathbed. Forgotten history.

Seems everything is in standby mode until the outcome of the US elections. Just normal everyday wars, killing, and regime change in the interim.
Meantime, check out this band. Traditional Mongolian dress and instruments & folk music modernised. Great music and video. Altai ethno folk band.

Sounds like you need some of this, or perhaps some 70’s rock’n roll with unintelligible lyrics to give you a second wind.
Cheers.
Methinks I also could use a well deserved, long awaited rest.
So I, Kim’s innermost dog, must needs his waning patience test.
And not the Goddess impatiently with salivation demand,
But rather dwell, with pious hope, on sweet salvation in all the land
WARNING:
This may cause you to tremble. I hope you like it, as a preparation for Orhtodox Easter:

What praise shall I sing in retribution
for seeing my name adorned in lyrics?
Strewth! gives away my anonymity,
in prose hidden, in rhyme revealed.
Waiting no longer for a promised Goddess
but a knock on the door, is my hunch,
by the man from the cia local branch.
Now is about the day when the traitor Judas revealed a secret. Just a coincidence?
She will arrive with a message for you, Kim, 6 days after her Son thaws your icy fears and forebodings.
Voices like that, are the real messengers of God
Some ‘voices’ and ‘visions’ dovetail neatly with political objectives – too neatly:

That is very interesting at least, hope it is not a propaganda material
Have a good rest, Saker.
Interesting article on Paul Craig Roberts website: http://www.paulcraigroberts.org/2016/04/25/world-war-iii-has-begun-paul-craig-roberts/
Echoes my own thoughts: to what purpose would the Russian Government be “privatizing” their oil and gas industries, particularly at a very depressed price? Only the Oligarchs, always looking to buy profitable assets cheaply with their stolen billions, stand to benefit and increase their power. The Russian people and state lose revenue and control over their key resource.
One might say (for Orthodox Easter) …
For Christ’s sake …
Saker, making Headway is …
Making an art out of falling …

Beautiful. Take 4-5 minutes. Thanks
Learning Russian because Russia stands for honor and sovereignty of the nations I wrote this after great effort and much needed help and wanted to share it with you, in the meantime best of all for your Holy Week:
‘Tis the gift to be simple … and coming ’round right…
Who Were The Shakers …?
‘Tis the gift to be simple, ’tis the gift to be free,
‘Tis the gift to come down where we ought to be,
And when we find ourselves in the place just right,
‘Twill be in the valley of love and delight.
When true simplicity is gain’d,
To bow and to bend we shan’t be asham’d,
To turn, turn will be our delight,
Till by turning, turning we come ’round right.

I wrote something here yesterday but some force stronger than me disappeared it before I could post it. I thank her or him because it would have certified me as a fool.
She just did it again. She deleted my well constructed paragraph. She just laughs; no love has ever been paragraphed.
Let me reprise what’s been said here thus far in the hopes that I’ll learn something about who’s doing what. Just for the fun of it? Not really.
Love has consequences according to Hootenanny. The boys in the meadow have something to do with kicks in the belly and nappies. Nothing is said about the consequences for the boys.
Rimsky-Korsakov sounds about right for Passion week. I wrote it down.
Waiting maids of heaven indeed. Sounds like 72 Virgins. I believe in the idea but need to deconstruct it of its patriarchal elements. Then it’s the raw and naked truth of who we are when brought down to earth. Then I can say as below so above in all the realms of love.
King Magnus, Christ risen, Man-golian bands, Genghis Khan, horses on the loose, sexy colorful Mongolian women and that beauty of a tenor. All glory to patriarchy and to his Commander in Chief.
Were you there when they crucified Jesus and She’sus? I was not. I ran away with Peter and the rest. The three Mary’s stayed and the sinner Mary was the first to meet him in the garden of Eve when he appeared radically changed.
On the three Mo’ Tenors place sidebar were Mahalia and Marion Williams singing about a brown skinned man being crucified. Marion looked like she was there along with the millions of blacks and browns; womem and men on the cross with She’sus. I didn’t tremble but I did cry as I understood better what the bible of nature told. “She told about the rain, about the city of seven hills where her brothers were slain.”
PCR is telling it again about the rape and slaughter of the innocent bricks of Russia et alii. Were I there? Well, yes safely and by internet. Do I care? Well, yes safely and by internet.
The art of falling is a coup de grace in reverse. We couldn’t show or see the real fall and live.
The persons behind the veil of this vineyard are like Russia: an enigma wrapped in a mystery.
So far one of them has not deleted me. I can’t quite decide if she is me or if I am her. She’s a Vineyard as it were. Or a Garden of Gethsemane on a Holy Tuesday long ago when we were there unaware.
Get some anti-virus Dennis, and regularly save your work.
Actually, delete that instruction, heed not the didactic jerk!
For the stream of consciousness in you is beautifully flowing,
Somewhere, somehow the Love Goddess is approving and knowing.
That her able son, Apollo, in your teeming brain is a-shining,
Dylanesque, yet like Keats or Shelley, but freer in your rhyming.
Meanwhile, I labor chained to meter and some rigid idea of form,
While you artfully soar and playfully violate every classical norm!
In burning shame and jealousy I am boiling and restlessly steeping,
My muse dully drugged; Damn! I might as well be sleeping!
For two days your Easter masterpiece lay still and unmolested.
I give up, and now will shut up! Your stream’s the best, it’s uncontested.
On the eve of Orthodox Easter,I chose a Russian song which I like very much.It was not easy, there are many variants of this song, all beautiful but I chose this one :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xEQntyokA94
I wish you a Happy Orthodox Easter and God Bless all of you !
Exquisitely beautiful, especially coming from Red Army warriors. When the cause is just and honor is at the stake, real men a rare beauty make.
@ ioan
It is beautiful indeed, an offering of peace and retreat to solitude and safety. And the “Evening Bells” was followed by “Kalinka”, also by the Red Army Choir, and you almost feel the Russian soul: quiet with a hint of melancholy, then erupting into bursts of gayety and lust like Zhukov’s canons.
kim
Zhukov’s cannons…what a good comparison to the Red Army Choir, the soldiers, this time, having their voices as cannons in this realm of beauty.
Ich fühle, dass in allen Blogs eine Flaute Einzug hält. Das ist schade, weil ich glaube, dass sich etwas großes schlimmes anbahnt.
Welch Flaute meinst Du ?
Diese hier – Tralala statt Analyse.
Enjoy!
Ps What a beautiful icon you’ve posted on the blog.
I found the previous one depressing – very intense depiction of distress.
The new one is joyful and celebratory – so again, enjoy your -well-deserved – break!:)
If you could post the name with the icon so the name will show when the cursor is passed over the image, I’d appreciate it.
have a good break
today Lavrov and Shoigu have been opening the MCIS Moscow 2 daySecurity conference with speeches, eg it is a criminal act for outside agencies to define good and bad terrorists and supply them/some with arms……giving ‘credit’? to joint US-Rus actions/successes in Syria, their hope for further joint anything ……………….maybe there is time later to have an analysis of it……………maybe there will be some more definite policy re Donbass, referring to the redefining foreign policy of protecting the interests of the ‘russian world” which Lavrov has stated is not an “expansionist’ policy.

Merciful days for you and your beloveds, saker!

Go to TouTube and call up, The Don Cossack Choir. They have lots of liturgical music recorded.
For virtuoso guitar performances look up, Estas Tonne. He’s Ukrainian and quite popular. His Moscow concerts are sold out.
