America outperforms the Great Chinese Firewall.
We know now why China has the Great Chinese Firewall. It is like a gated community to keep western plunderers out. Its that simple. Daniel Dumbrill comments on the seizing of Iranian domains vis a vis the Great Chinese Firewall. Btw, at the end of the video (and it is not too long, 16 mins), there is a speech from a House Intelligence Committee meeting circa 1975. Stay and listen to that clip and you will understand why the US media specifically, and their followers, are all singing from the same hymnal.
All eyes on Space, where three taikonauts moved into their new space home to stay for three months. This is excellent news in the year that China celebrates the 100 year anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party. It is surprising that in western climes, the CCP or the CPC is the word used to indicate the Government of China. Seemingly in the west, China does not have a Government or a Politburo or any leadership. They only have a CCP and this triggers the ‘communist’ word.
During this year, China, in my experience, has changed its media coverage. About three years ago at the height of the Trump Trade War, I saw their media coverage change, and they started hitting back at the propaganda media about China. This gave rise to the description ‘Wolf Warrior Diplomacy’.
We’ve had another change and this comes from the idea that they think they are losing the media wars. So, as we see so often, if you put an impediment in front of China, they find some way to go around that impediment. In the media wars, they are distributing the most excellent information that one could wish for. This is new for China as they have always been reticent in talking about themselves.
I am referring to publications such as the following that attempt (and do a good job at it) to explain China to the world.
- Decoding the CPC’s secret recipe for an economic miracle
As China gears up to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on July 1, one of the greatest achievements of the CPC to be highlighted is what has been widely described as an economic miracle. From a backward agrarian economy in the early days of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) to an economic and technological powerhouse today, China’s economic success story under the CPC’s leadership has arguably become the global story of the century and the envy of the world.
The secret codes behind such miraculous achievements have also become a hotly debated topic around the world. This article will decode those codes.

Whereas this is a sitrep and not an analysis, those interested should take a look at how the Chinese Government functions. They call their system of governance a Unique Political Creation. Talking about China, people get themselves knotted into descriptions of ‘communism’ and ‘capitalism’. The simple answer is: It is different dude! It is unique! You ‘aint never seen something like this before.
Did you know that:
In the early years of the Republic of China (1912-1949), China adopted the Western parliamentary party system. From 1912, when the first cabinet was established, to 1928, the head of state was replaced 10 times and the prime minister 59 times, and the cabinet was reshuffled 45 times. The longest term of office was less than one year, while the shortest was less than one day. In addition, there were five parliaments and seven constitutions. The frequent changes of presidency, cabinet, parliament and constitution caused enormous social unrest.
The Western parliamentary party system did not suit the Chinese People. As we see now in Russia, it does not really suit the Russians either. Governance must first be from the people, and despite the anti-China propaganda campaign, this exists from grassroots level in China. And if we start from there, this may be our first hint as to how the Saker’s Zone A and Zone B shake out in reality. But this would be another essay.
From this link you will find a downloadable document titled: China’s Political Party System: Cooperation and Consultation. This describes clearly how the People’s Republic of China eventually was constituted, as well as the changes along the way. The main difference is that the people themselves find that they can existentially better operate in a social group cohesion. The proverbial lone cowboy or operator that goes off the save the world is not only rejected but is looked at askance. The operative words are ‘cooperation and consultation’. The ideological pillars are pragmatic:
- The system embodies the interests of the widest range of social groups.
- The system reflects the shared goals of all.
- The system promotes sound decision-making and implementation.
- The system ensures effective state governance.
“China’s political party system is the result of a historical process. It is a structure of enormous strength, creativity and vitality. It embodies the essence of Chinese traditions; it reflects the intrinsic requirements of socialism; it conforms to China’s realities and its needs in state governance. As a basic component of China’s political system, it contributes to China’s development, national rejuvenation, and social progress, and is of great benefit to the people’s wellbeing.
Over the past seven decades and more, this system has grown and matured. It provides Chinese ideas to the world in terms of modern party politics, and offers a new model for global political progress. China will, as always, learn and draw from the positive experiences of other countries, but will not imitate other political party systems mechanically, or impose its own on any other country. China respects the right of other countries to choose a political party system best adapted to their own realities. Based on equality and mutual respect, China is willing to strengthen cooperation and mutual learning with other countries, promote democracy on the international stage, and eventually build a global community of shared future.”
Western political theories fall short in explaining the Communist Party of China (CPC)’s success over the past century. The CPC is a party that has remained committed to serving the people, and viewed by the Chinese people as “a party of our own.” #CPC100Years #GLOBALink pic.twitter.com/VhzIeTgO6z

So, from this departure point, we return to space. The buildout, roll-out and eventual moving into the new Chinese space station reads like a fairy tale. They did not make errors or if they did, they corrected them forthwith. Mind, this is not your granny’s space station and more development and platforming is planned to act as a base to research and investigate space. We will see in future investigative and research space probes will leave from this space station.
Here is a fairly mundane (but fairly correct) overview: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiangong_space_station
The real story lies in the joy of the people and you can find more of this here. This salute is the equivalent of ‘one step for man, one giant step for mankind’. https://www.globaltimes.cn/page/202106/1226392.shtml
TASS added their voice to the general jubilation with reporting on a televised chat between the three taikonauts and Xi Jinping.
“Building a space station is an important milestone for China’s spaceflight cause,” Xi said in the televised chat.
“This will be a contribution that opens new horizons for humanity’s peaceful use of space. You are the representatives of countless fighters in the new era of China’s spaceflight cause,” he said.
https://tass.com/press-releases/1306743
There are more space initiatives planned. There is a new Russian/Chinese space station on the drawing board and a number of launches of various kinds as well as a base on the moon.
China and Russia to launch 6 lunar missions in 2021-2025 to build international Moon base – The missions will use Chinese CZ-3B and CZ-5 launch vehicles, as well as Russia’s Soyuz-2
A small but very interesting factoid is that the language of space will be Mandarin, or Standard Chinese. If you are an astronaut or a cosmonaut and want to visit Tiangong or Heavenly Palace, you will first need to learn the language.
I saw a comment from one of the readers of The Saker blog, to the idea that The Saker is a serious blog, and perhaps we cannot describe things humorously. To the contrary, we have a lively sense of humor and I borrow this cryptic cartoon from the China Daily Publication.
Onward to a few data points.
First, Xinjiang … and now we can clearly perceive why the extreme attempt at seeding this Uyghur province with ‘oh so friendly terrorists’.
China is fighting back against the Xinjiang propaganda. Highly automated industries in Xinjiang shatter Western “forced labor” lie
https://www.globaltimes.cn/page/202106/1227052.shtml
But the real reason? It’s the oil, baby! This has been known in the Chinese watcher gossip-sphere for some time, but now the news is out: 1-billion-ton oil and gas field discovered in Xinjiang’s Tarim Basin
https://www.globaltimes.cn/page/202106/1226540.shtml
China will not share its oil with a bunch of wealth extractive oil companies. Russia has sufficient knowledge to assist with the oil industry. That is the reason for the literal attempts at color revolution in Xinjiang. (For those that watch, there are new fields discovered in the South China Seas as well.)
Next up, Spinach: China grows 92% of the world’s spinach, 88% of its asparagus, 81% of its green beans, and 80% of its cucumbers. Glass greenhouse acreage grew 28% in 2020. Built within city limits to reduce distance to buyers, they sell directly to e-commerce platforms and supermarkets and bypass middlemen. (Even Reuters cannot any longer hide these numbers https://www.reuters.com/world/the-great-reboot/modern-farming-coronavirus-outbreak-spurs-high-tech-greenhouse-boom-china-2021-06-04/)
As we’ve come to +1,600 words, and the guidance for a Saker Site Sitrep is around 1,000, I will dispense with the longer read for this piece. But do remember this is but a fraction of what I gleaned from the Here Comes China newsletter. Godfree has some delicious longer reads in his newsletter: https://www.herecomeschina.com/#subscribe
I also want to mention Jeff J. Brown, who tackles the insane propaganda from another perspective, the one of Huawei being the perfect allegory for why the West’s desperate efforts to destroy the Chinese nation are doomed to fail.
I think that China can land a crewed spaceship on the moon anytime now. They don’t need the super-heavy rocket to do so. They could just use the Long March 5 rocket, assemble all the necessary bits and pieces at the Space Station and then ‘blast’ off straight to the moon using their ion-thrusters. They don’t even need to go round in circles.
That way, they will reach the moon in a matter of hours. The Chinese Moon-ship could use a hybrid combination of ion-thrusters for the long journey and rocket-fuel thrusters for the moon-landing itself and the initial balst offfrom the moon for the return leg. As a matter of fact, the three taikonauts reached the space station 6.5 hours after blast-off.
SpaceX of Elon Musk fame needed 23 hours although I calculated that they took 40 hours for the last trip to the ISS.
In fact the Chinese Space Station (CSS) is now using ion-thrusters to stabilise its orbit.
Another fact: the CSS’ solar panels convert 30% of the sunlight falling on them into electricity – a world record. The electricity power output is thus equal to that of the ISS even though the CSS is only 28% the volume of the ISS and weigh about 100 tonnes on earth as compared to the ISS’ 400 tonnes,
The CSS is also equipped with a robotic arm which scared the hell out of the US because of its possible military use. The arm can stretch out to 15 meters. It is detachable and can move around the outside of the space station like a worm.
https://www.scmp.com/video/china/3134004/design-robotic-arm-chinas-tiangong-space-station-revealed
Yeah the Chinese are going to thrust maneuver a 100 ton space station all around the globe to capture enemy satellites. People just gobble this stuff up without any critical thinking.
What do you make of Van Allen belt? Do you think it is a fiction or a real challenge for a living journey to the moon?
The Van Allen radiation belts are real and dangerous if you hang about in them, but not so much for the short exposure of a swift transit.
The more concerning issue is exposure to the ambient radiation in interplanetary space, both solar and cosmic background radiation. Potentially lethal if not somehow shielded off.
One way or another, this consideration alone blows the American Moon-landings out of the water. Lots of other technical issues beside that serve to thoroughly debunk that American mythology.
If the Russians and Chinese intend to field a manned Moon base, then they’ll need to solve all those challenging problems for crew safety and comfort. It’s doable, no doubt, so we’ll be waiting to see what they come up with.
I’d recommend putting any Moon base well underground, to get away from the background radiation as well as any stray meteorites or micro-meteorites coming in at 100 times the speed of a bullet.
How do they deal with the radiation and the heat, considering the Van Allen belt radiation and beyond can penetrate 100mm lead and the upper layer of the thermosphere and beyond is up to 2000C?
With old Gold and Rockwool thermal insulation??
Where do they go out of the earth spheres, at the north pole or do they just penetrate all the spheres and layers rounding the earth?
There are 380 000 km from earth to moon. You claim they can reach the moon in a couple of hours. So how fast do the rocket move, 100 000 km/hr ???
they do it in a studio somewhere in china movie town which is larger than hollowood :)
Flying at the 2nd cosmic velocity of 11,2 km per second, it will take about 9.5 hours to reach the moon from the earth using ion-thrusters and flying in a straight line.
Btw, I posted that they can reach the moon in a matter of hours and not “a couple of hours”.
And yes, they need to tackle that radiation. I did not factor that in. When they overcome that issue, then they can reach the moon in a matter of hours using ion-thrusters. I am just an amateur space enthusiast.
That radiation belt is the very thing that is going to haunt the US administration for a long time to come. When everyone is struggling in the scientific community to overcome that the very hurdle, the longer and harder they try the more they realize what has been proclaimed as gospel truth for over half of a century will break apart without further ado. Similarly, I, for one, have not forgotten how the supposed passengers on the ill-fated hijacked 911 flights talked to their families on cellphones. In hindsight we all knew it was BS for those all of us who care to keep abreast of technology. Those blatant lies may be able to fool the uncouth nevertheless.
The Chinese are shrewd to dither on the timeline of a manned mission to the moon, because I think they know what the real deal will require
But I have a hunch that the Hohmann transfer orbit method using fuel thrusters will still be used to get out of the radiation belt. After that, the ion-trusters relying on the Hall Effect, will kick in.
I also want to add that the operating system on the CSS is the home-grown and super-efficient Kylin which combines with in-built artificial intelligence. This is the same system that landed Zhurong Rover on Mars so precisely and efficiently.
And the internet system on the CSS? You got it. It is Chinese 5G with 1.2 gig download speed – the same as in China. And the visuals transmitted from the CSS of the taikonauts working in the space station are stunningly sharp.
Simon, thanks for adding all the space stuff. Yes, those visuals are amazing! And there is a new series out on the Zhurong Rover as well.
With space being so front and center, let me know if you have something that comes up that you think can fit our sitrep here. I somehow think space is going to remain front and center. (this is now if we all survive next week’s shenanigans with war games :-)
That’s right, Linux in space. It’s the only functioning OS on Mars.
biggest story of the year. chinas crypto move. huge capacity pulled from mining and exchanges.
It will be interesting to see what China will do in response to the power vacuum created by the withdrawal of western forces from Afghanistan. All previous interventions by foreign forces have failed in Afghanistan. I hope that China will take a different approach to dealing with its neighbor. If they can allow the Afghans to work out their own politics, and support the citizens through economic incentives they could have a great impact on the regions success. After all it is Afghans for Afghanistan that matters. The Afghans are truly a group that deserves the time to work out their own internal struggles without outside interferance. The world might be horrified by what happens next in Afghanistan, but outside interference will only make it worse.
Like Russia I believe they will talk directly to the Taliban, who very soon will be running Afghanistan (as you say, after a short period of discomfort for western viewers) maybe there will be tripartite discussions? Its the only way the region will move forward whilst circumnavigating continued western meddling, although I can’t see the Soros NGOs being a factor in that, more like surreptitious CIA fundings, false flags and arms shipments to any opposition left on the ground. Russian realpolitik is the way forward I think, cleaning up the western mess and allowing Afghans to find their own future.
Winning the peace always have to do with economics. This is true even if there is a peace agreement. Or even without a peace agreement. That’s where China can come in the restore the economy with its huge finance and markets.
China is even now economically stabilising Belarus, not with money which the Belarusians would likely squander. But China is helping through its economic and business prowess. E.g. China is building an industrial zone in Belarus in which the Europeans, led by the Germans, are investing, lured by the Russian market and of course the gargantuan Chinese market which is now (and have been since 2019) larger than the US market.
This beginning of this post is a funny example of how Mr. Roberts argues. For years, he has been justifying Chinese internet censorship, claiming it would “only censor the harmful things” (which is a lie, btw. – I could give you long list of completely unpolitical things that are censored and things that are made impossible, like simply downloading mainboard drivers from the producers website etc.) There have been found masses of excuses. Now, that the US and the whole West uses even more obvious censorship, it is – rightfully – considered something bad and mentioned. That’s dishonest argumentation, aka propaganda.
And it goes on and on like this.
I agree – Chinese representation in Western media is very dishonest and distorted. But Roberts newsletter too is full of distortions and manipulations. In the end, he is just another man on a ladder.
EA-Expat says: “…he [Mr. Roberts] has been justifying Chinese internet censorship, claiming it would “only censor the harmful things” ”
Actually there are many fundamental differences between Chinese and Western censorships that you miss.
1. Chinese censorship seeks to suppress speeches that destabilize Chinese society (e.g. terrorism), or those that are harmful to their national security, sovereignty or interests (e.g. separatism, overthrowing of government). Western censorship targets foreign governments disapproved by US, or to eliminate ideological foes and alternative voices. In other word, China uses censorship for defensive purposes, but the West uses it for offensives.
2. Chinese government does NOT aim to destroy the sources outside China. Chinese citizens are aware of the censorship. Millions of knowledgeable and willing people use VPN to bypass the firewall without any penalty. Chinese citizens travelling to Hong Kong or outside China are exposed to those information. Western censorship always goes beyond their national boundary, and typically work in conjunction with other coercive sanctions and political pressures in a worldwide scale for total and absolute suppression.
3. Chinese government is open about their censorship guidelines, and adhere to their own laws faithfully. They believe Internet needs to be regulated, freedom of speech has limitation, and individual rights does not triumph collective interests. So their actions are consistent with their words and principles. Western government openly supports freedom of speech, individual rights, and open Internet. When foreign countries don’t live up to Western standards, they are criticized and attacked. And yet tide of opinions turn, Western governments readily abandon their principles, violate their laws or bent their rules and practices. They could even ban their sitting President from using Twitter. Their censorship is unprincipled, expedient and often time immoral and unjustifiable.
d dan, thanks for that. But you know, people do not take in what you say. There is an extreme inability to understand the differences between a civilization that puts the collective wisdom first vs what we have in western climes.
Again, thanks for spelling that out so clearly.
Freedom of speech has to be limited…Bingo, your right for freedom of speech without responsibility is what has led the U.S. to where it is now, the media and the press lie about everything and everyone to suit their masters. The politicians lie about the opposition, with the high court condoning it saying it’s free speech lying to the people becomes ingrained and never changes.I’m glad to see that China has recognized the problem, and it looks like Russia is following suit to combat the propaganda from the west.

bwbs
p/s btw surveillance are more for the foreign hostile ‘moderate terrorist’ and color-revo wanna-be than for every day chinese citizen… and even that, any chinese citizen has more human rights than avg westerners when they hv broken the law – if anyone wants to dig it, Larry your new inspired post maybe?, one may know :)
EA-Expat, it was actually I that wrote that piece about censorship. But never mind, if you cannot download a driver, perhaps there are some sanctions against China somewhere. I don’t think Roberts’ newsletter is full of distortions and manipulations. It truly is a list of data. What is he manipulating and distorting? Known Statistics?
That’s right, go ahead and blame China. There are more and more western websites that are geoblocking connections from Hong Kong and China. Its not the Chinese government’s doing.
Accusations by EA-expat is exactly why these geoblocking are not announced or declared. Easy to pin it on bad bad China.
In fact saker is often not reachable from certain ip blocks my vpn provider uses, par for the course.
They are blocking on the back of fears such as hacking, ddos or just making an outright idealogical stand. In actual fact most of the day to day hacks, phishing and scams are run out of Eastern europe and India. But they are democracies! It can’t be true! It’s always China and Russia!
The spl-internet is coming. The non-aligned world better figure out how to maintain connections after China, Russia and friends are black holed by Uncle Sam.
This is great! I think Russia will benefit greatly from this too. The west often forgets, that Russia won the space race by far and nowadays their knowledge is often overlooked. The Chinese however seem to view Russia as their partner. This will become handy for the other BRICS members too and additionally to Syria and Venezuala, especially in the terms of internet censorship and hacking.
Competition is a good thing. If the system of China is so bad, why doesn’t the west demonstrate a superior system. I have never been a fan of socialism or communism but I would rather live in China than be a slave to mark Zuckerberg and Amazon man.
George Floyd being a deity is all you need to describe the direction and future of the little hats empire.
The Chinese success is based on the failure of the West, not so much on the genuine success of China. Easy to see also in Russia. Russia is not that much of a success either, financially or socially.
The main reason for China’s success is the fierce nationalism. Even Russia has had some benefits in that front.
And here in the West we are living under constant Zionist attack on all traditional, and good, values. There is not one item that is left at peace: family, nation, people, religion. No, we are attacked daily, 24/7, all through the year.
Our economies are totally annihilated. There is no Western nation without a catastrophic debt. All nations are strangled by debt. Not one nation can anymore be independent as they are slaves of the debt. Try leaving EU. You cannot as the Masters Of Fiat Money control everything. The do not work, they scheme, they povide riches to themselves from nowhere. And nations and people pay.
Our countries are attacked by hordes of low IQ masses that will never ever contribute to the economy, quite the opposite. They are the guarantee and security to the elite that the nations and the people will never rise.
The Zionist elite has destroyed all. They are now richer than any nation, in fact they own more than the combined nations of the West.
There is no point in analyzing the “Success” of Communism. China would be in its place if we were free from usury and corruption, and the constant attack on our best values.
Finally, Russia is the very next victim. If you believe you can survive living with Zionism, think again. These people will want everything, land and water, forests and mining, and the most they want the soul of the people. And the key to your central bank, where they will create riches for themselves and debts to the nations. China will not help or care, they all love to see our peoples as slaves.
Kindly show me how your western societies got “trojaned” by a bunch of power hungry Zionists if your fundamental value has been so exceptional in the first place? Though your statements reflect certain reality, everything seems to be premised on the superiority of a western democratic value and system. Success or failure does not hinge on words. Everything start from how we think collectively. Work hard to correct what is wrong and build back better for all i know behaving like a sour grape is the least effective method to the road of success.
Indeed, vientito but one can do no better than by starting here about how we got “trojaned.”
https://henrymakow.com/cruelhoax/
Go down the rabbit hole of the cult of freemasonry and one will quickly learn the Zionists had help.
Also go here https://vigilantcitizen.com/category/sinistersites/
and if you start asking why all of the crazy murals, pyramids, temples squares etc etc popping up all over the world you’ll begin to see something very odd is occurring right beneath your nose.
There is nothing to “show”. If you cannot see it, there is no point to argue, it is so clear.
Of course eg. Chinese are happy to gloat about their superiority when the competition has been strangled to death by Zionism. And it is nothing new, it has happened, and most likely will keep happening, in the past as well as in the future.
If Chinese think that they are safe from Zionism, big mistake. These guys are already slowly but surely sliming their way to the “Communism”. They ARE the Communism. They are always whatever is necessary to steal and destroy.
When I look at China now, I have nothing there, except nationalism, that I would like to take back to my country. I tell you, when the Zionists turn their eyes on you, you will be robbed, boy, how you will be robbed. You will not recognize left or right after that, but you will recognize the loss of everything.
But I am not interested in Communism, not in Chinese or in Bolshevik variant. I want My Country back and I want the people that robbed it out of my country, and for good.
China has a Culture and good luck with it. Let’s see how you rock and roll with Zionists..
And so have we, and there is nothing there that we need to be ashamed, quite the opposite. Having just read about African History, they had not yet invented the wheel, when the White People arrived. In fact, their only industry was slaves. And now we kneel in front of violent black drug addicts. Well, there is my proof, we are innocent. Zionist Hollywood is another matter. There is not a big enough lie that they would not change into “Truth”.
The way forward is to look at the truth looking at you, and once we do it, nothing will stop us. We will kick the Usury, where it belongs as well as the Masters Of Fiat Money. Let them derivate their last jaffas there. We have nothing to lose anymore, and that is good.
Debt free money creation by the US Treasury would solve a lot of financial problems. There would in fact be no need of federal income tax, state income or sales taxes in order to fund government expenditures. The only function of taxation would then be to remove excess money from the economy to control the rate of inflation of the currency.
“Kindly show me how your western societies got “trojaned” by a bunch of power hungry Zionists if your fundamental value has been so exceptional in the first place?”
They did this by targeting children via TV, movies, smartphones, social media, porn, etc.
The drop in calibre of Western people, the degradation, happened very recently. The youth of today are in no way comparable to the youth of WWII.
Some say it’s also because they grew up eating foods that were grown with chemicals and pesticides, that’s why the young people today have no backbone.
The West was a good place, with good people. People who were truly and genuinely more progressive and cultured, more civilized, than all others at the time. Everyone wanted to go live in the West, because of the law and order, and freedoms and human rights, which were truly lacking in other places, by comparison. Who can deny this?
I say this as an Iranian who has been reporting on Resistance activity on this blog for the last couple of months.
I’m the death to USA guy, but even I have to concede that there was a short era, far too short, where living in the West was as close to experiencing a utopia and paradise on Earth, as the human race had experienced in long long ages.
But it was lost. In Australia and New Zealand, the magic lingered for a while more, but even there it was lost, just in recent years.
The media is a more powerful weapon than an atomic bomb. And foods grown with chemicals and pesticides are poison.
So, how are they doing it, you ask? They are feeding Western children poison, while poisoning their minds through smartphones and social media. They are poisoning the minds and bodies of children. Does that answer your question?
This sentence: “The Chinese success is based on the failure of the West, not so much on the genuine success of China. Easy to see also in Russia. Russia is not that much of a success either, financially or socially ”
is the newest and greatest and latest propaganda against Russia and China – names exchanged as it fits the situation. I see it roll out in strange places.
How difficult is it to be simply glad if someone else does well, instead of trying to dismiss, nullify and cheapen the other party’s success? Russia is doing well despite sanctions, threatened wars and so on.
I hear from the gossip grapevine that the US asked for access to Tiangong, and they were bluntly refused. Of course, this is also tit for tat as the Chinese were refused access to the current Space Station, that the US thinks it owns. But really, they only bought the first module from Russia.
Agreed, it sounds like sour grapes from some of these posters about the current success of China and Russia. It kind of reminds me of Westerners dismissing Russia’s victories against Napoleon and Hitler to the mere winter rather than the smarts, tenacity and persistence of the Russian people themselves. These attitudes are not only sour grapes but its pure racism unfiltered, it says no non-Westerner can have success under their own accord.
Well, come to think of it. Tribalism is well and alive and affects most of us mortal living. Not too hard to notice that his sentiment also leaned hard on that whiteness being a part and parcel of that formula of success. For all it is worth I just can’t take anyone seriously who harbours thought that skin colour has something to do with precursor to success.
Again agreed, yet in the case of the Russians they can be as white, blond and blue eyed as any Westerner and yet receive the same kind of racist condescension as other non-Western Europeans if you want to be even narrower North-Western Europeans. I guess in their crazy neurotic racial and hierarchical minds scratch a Russian and he is really Mongol or Asian, what a depressing way to view the world and its variety of peoples and cultures.
“So, from this departure point, we return to space.”
Why, O why are we even in outer space? The colossal amount of money spent on this is or will be for nothing. Believe me for nothing. Nothing will be gained for the human race nothing except for some fascinating picture and videos of earth, and other celestial bodies. Other than that for nothing! Although for those guys going on spacewalks will be a great disneyland adventure but I don’t appreciate paying for their giddy moment of joy!
As for spinach and the other greens that is horrifying? Really 80 – 90 % of the worlds supply grows in China? That’s crazy.
Exploration always has a special place in the heart of mankind. I heard the french has a saying “Le coeur a ses raisons que la raison ne connait point” meaning roughly the heart trumps any reason given.
We are all fascinated by unknowns and epics and sometimes we pay a great price to that. Such frailty and weakness in megalomania? No i disagree. Without fascination and curiosity we are a stagnant specie. The importance is to strike a balance. Only if we have excess capacity and resource shall I say?
Yeah, I expected that!
You know I wished sometimes to be on Columbus’s boat as he traveled the worlds oceans and meet the wow of discovery. What he and others like him experienced must have been truly incredible and horrifying.
Outer space however, is a different ballgame. You know we learned more from a spacecraft named Voyager which has left our solar system than we ever have from manned expeditions. That stupid amusement park now 2 of them rotating the earth will never in a hundred years come close to discovering what Voyager has done never. Someone should in fact do an accounting of the colossal amount of money spent on that amusement park alone without all of the others and ask what has mankind got in return? Further to that given the essay earlier about the problem of over-population and the dire need to help the poor and suffering of our world that amusement park is a testament to the abject gross negligence of mankind toward its own.
As a Christian who knows where we are going that space station is little more than a redoing of the Tower of Babel. It’s just man playing god. Thats all it is.
Yeah 300 million dollars for a failed expedition out to the sun. Called Genesis it was supposed to collect solar wind dust particles and return them to earth in the hopes of learning about climate change? lol
I know the problem and solution to climate change but NASA lol is going to play god instead of reading and believing what was already laid down for us centuries nay millennia ago.
We almost destroyed the ionosphere with our nuclear testing? What next damage the sun with nuclear powered satellites?
That Genesis probe can you imagine if it returned to the earth and we learned that our sun is actually dying or god forbid damaged in some way what are we going to do? Send a team of taikonauts out to the sun in the hopes or repairing it?
Go watch the movie Sunshine and be amazed truly amazed. It raises some truly profound questions about man playing god.
I guess though the real truth of the matter is that these amusement rides parks in orbit are actually military installations. America has a space force yes? From such a high altitude one can only guess at the amazing technology at work to spy on every square inch of earth and record everything going on.
It’s funny the Soviets went looking for God the Americans followed suit by playing god instead?
What China will do is anybody’s guess although I’d imagine with building the biggest radio telescope in the world to contact aliens maybe they’ll try from outer space instead hoping finally for a response from ET?
In the mean time Spinach and Cucumbers how do I get mine and pay for it from here in Canada? It takes capital both human labor and money to grow it and with the current exchange rate how much is it going to be or can I maybe barter for it?
Stop bellyaching and get off your bum and do some real work.
I grow my own fruits and have just cleared land and planted dozens of coconut trees with my bare hands, aided by a hand-held spade and a manual digger called a changkol locally. All of this was done through the present pandemic lockdown. I worked by myself on my land and therefore not bothered by the authorities.
And you can just imagine the health benefits I got from those hard manual work!
Please stick to the topic and not attack each other. Mod.
Simon, could you give me a link to see a picture of that manual digger? I’m having visions of bringing in a fully automatic auger or something .. its hard to dig holes you know :-).
amarynth, here is a link. It is a very handy tool for controlling weeds noxious plants. Btw, I dont own that hardware shop in the link.
I am Chinese but imbued with both the Protestant and Confucian work ethics. So I am a bit quick off the mark on the working with my bare hands bit. I need to be a bit more Russian in this blog.
Here is the link for “changkol”:

Thanks Simon. We call that a simple hoe but Oh Nellie! I have to wear gloves.
And the sweet potato leaves – yes, I love them.
Amarynth, changkol is not a simple hoe. A hoe is a light tool used for scraping (and yeah sometimes cutting) already loosened soil; eg to scrape a very shallow trench, or pull soil up to be a raised planting line or mound. A changkul is a heavier tool, more like those spades that you jump onto, except the blade is at a right angle and you swing it more like an axe; to break into hard or heavy soil. I have broken 2 hoes, trying to use them like changkols.
You can see changkols in East Asian movies and films, where agriculture and construction are still often human labor. If you get a chance, watch some Vietnamese movies about the american war : you will likely see a gang of women digging a road or an irrigation ditch.
Noted Mod. Thanks for the reminder. Didn’t mean to attack. But I realise that I am in a different culture.
@Perry. BTW, I have just harvested some sweet potato leaves which are like spinach and arguably more nutritious, rich in phytochemicals that have anti-cancer properties. I grew it from a single stalk and now have more than I can eat.
“Apart from the interests of the working class and the broadest masses of the people, the CPC has no special interests of its own. The purpose of the CPC is to serve the people wholeheartedly.”
The past few decades, and especially China’s continuing rise under President Xi Jinping, have emphatically shown this to be true.
Unlike the precisely opposite priorities pursued by the allegedly “democratic” Western nations, government by the rich for the rich, with the resulting collapse of prosperity, security and freedom for 99% of Western people.
