A South African writer for The Saker Blog
Around 2008, what is called Xenophobia, broke out. This has been repeated from time to time and to state it simply, the South African blacks kill everyone that they can get their hands on, that hail from anywhere in the rest of Africa. We now have the African Continental Free Trade Agreement and the South Africans seem to be sensitive to truck drivers and other workers from elsewhere in Africa. They are so ‘sensitive’ that they kill them in brutal zenophobic attacks. We don’t call this racism which is a word reserved for dividing blacks and whites. No, of course these crimes are called by the correct word which is fear or hatred of that which is perceived to be foreign. I don’t really see the difference and this is clearly racism but only using the fancy word.
During August/September a brutal wave of xenophobia broke out again. Instead of dwelling on the history of this issue, I’ll just post a few of the milder photos and leave links at the end of this sitrep to an in-depth discussion on xenophobia. It truly is an interesting story. What I will not post, are the videos of people being doused with petrol/gasoline and set alight in the middle of Johannesburg and if that person is not burning fast or effectively enough, the chanting and screaming mob tosses cardboard and other flammables onto the burning person, to make sure he burns well and good! Be aware, to click here will be very disturbing from the May 2018 xenophobic violence, and it is better not seen. The following images convey the situation sufficiently.
Having seen those photos, some of the milder ones, we have the Defense Minister, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, declaring that nothing can be done to stop these waves of xenophobic attacks: “The attacks against foreigners in South Africa were planned by criminals and the government can’t prevent it” and “The reality is that we have an angry nation. What’s happening can never be prevented by any government.”
Now if that is not a clear and formalized declaration of governmental incompetence, I do not know what is. I use the word ‘incompetence’ in its formal definition, i.e., not able to carry out the duties.
On street level, one hears this:
The Mozabiquens are taking our jobs
The Nigerians have claimed the drug trade and claimed Johannesburg for boko haram and human trafficking
Small Chinese stores in the malls are closing because of danger of xenophobic attacks
The Zimbabweans, mostly the truck drivers, are responsible for most of the farm murders
The Malawian truck drivers are taking our jobs
The Tanzanians are the ones hijacking trucks and cars
On street level, South Africa is turning into a gang run social sphere with schools calling parents at times warning them to collect their kids themselves and not to allow the kids to take buses or arrange small taxis because of kidnapping dangers.
Here under the heading of What can we say about the future? I expressed the expectation that we will see a type of Mogadishu developing with car bombs, running gang battles, attacks on hotels, death and killing run amuck. Just take a quick scroll through the headlines to see what this looks like: https://www.independent.co.uk/topic/mogadishu
In this very same previous writing, I explained how the state and the government are falling apart to the extent that there are very few government or municipal services left. Oh, they are there. They have offices, people come to work, visiting dignitaries can escorted and shown offices that look the part, but nothing actually works. It is not strange to make a request at any governmental or municipal office, and receive the answer that the employee is only there to collect a wage and it is too much like work to search for a document, or actually do the work of governmental or municipal affairs. It is easier to simply buy a driver’s license renewal, rather than go to the office and apply for a new one. This applies to all documentation. We needed a formal marriage certificate copy, and the answer was to come to the office and go search the boxes in the basement for the document that we needed.
A country can withstand this to a level, if there is a strong private sector. Unfortunately with the South African Black Empowerment legislation that denuded the private sector of experienced management and workers, the private sector is now falling into an equally miserable status. The biggest sugar manufacturer and one of the largest employers in the country is laying off more than 5,000 workers, with no safety net. Remember the jobless percentage is anything between 29 and 50%. Most of these workers live on the sugar farms in company provided housing and many of them have never worked, or lived anywhere else so, their skills are in sugar production alone.
https://northcoastcourier.co.za/131440/thousands-lose-jobs-tongaat-hulett/
The CEO took home R16,7 million last year while producing 1.17mt of sugar last year, nearly the same level it was producing in 2012.
And this is of course the real problem and it is a governmental problem of subsidies. “ … distorted subsidies that have encouraged other countries to produce too much sugar has seen SA sugar prices fall.”
You see the problem? You see the problem of blaming everyone else? This once proud and beautiful country is imploding because of extreme mismanagement, blatant governmental excess across the spectrum, incompetence, too many hands in the money pots and the Chinese are still giving loans to keep the power and electricity provider functional. There comes a time where one cannot any longer express the situation in terms different than sliding into violent and life-threatening chaos.
A historical note : There are other peoples in South Africa that understood at the time the clear objective of the British overlords during colonization. Here is a letter from an old Pondo Chief, to the Russian Emperor in 1886. As descendants of AbaMbo, they migrated south from the Great Lakes around the 1570s, travelling through Tanganyika to Zambezi where they settled for a long time before moving south to present day South Africa. “Pondo people were originally settled in the Central Africa, in what was known as Nyasaland, but in the 15th Century they moved together with other tribes, south of Central Africa before splitting in Mpumalanga. The Pondos together with the Zulus moved to areas around Durban or Northern Zululand. Due to some differences, Pondos moved south of Umzimkhulu River and settled there with Mthatha River to the west and Umzimvubu River in the east,” says Maraqana.
To the Czar, St Petersburg, Russia,
Esihlonyane Pondoland, 10 Nov. 1886
“Sir, I again write, to you, I wish to explain our present position As a Nation. We are independent Nation subject to no other power up to the present Self Independent. The Pondo Nation now asks to be protected by you. The English Government wants to take away our Country”. The letter provides the details of the matter and adds, «P.S. do not listen the English Govt. what might they say. They might say perhaps the Pondo country belongs to them. They might say this to delude you as you are no aware of the facts, that it is false. The boundary of the Pondo Country Commences from Umtata river Mouth and up along the Umtata river and through Gungululu to Shawbury Mission Station, and go down to Ngxaroli and through Ishungwana and to the Umzimvubu River and Run along the Stream to the junction of the Imvenyane stream and along the Intsuzwa Mountain and to Celintcungu Mountains to Nolangeni Mountains through Engele Mountains. Another thing they have armed their subjects to come and fight us. As we have no friend to assist us we don’t want to be under the protection of the English Govt. We shall await your valuable assistance. The English Govt. is treating us most shamefully. The population of the Pondo Nation is about 200 000. Our country is very rich in Copper, Gold, Coal, etc. and all kinds of Minerals. It is for this reason they want to take away our Country forcibly against our Consent. Should you kindly agree to protect us? We would allow you to open all Mines in the Country. I have the honor to be Sir
Your most obedient Servant
Umhlangaso JS Faku for Paramount Chief Umqikela Chief Councilor and Prime Minister»
How the worm has turned. Chief Umqikela attempted to save his tribal lands from the British. Now the white boers have to save their lands from those that migrated in, same as what they did. Like the Pondo, the initial white Boer Republics were independent, self-governed republics exactly like Chief Umqikela’s tribal lands, in the last half of the nineteenth century. The republics came to an end after the Second Boer War which resulted in the British annexation and later incorporation into the Union of South Africa.
We all, black and white migrated into the lands in the South of Africa and more or less at the same time. The white South Africans have a full right to be there having migrated in, just like the Pondo people migrated in, and asked the Russian Emperor for help against the colonizers.
The only feasible and serious solution for my people in South Africa, is to revert back to a self-governed republic, separate from those who burn people alive. But, we are also the more law-abiding taxpayers, so, the current government will not let us go. The alternative toward a fast Mogadishu is too bitter to contemplate. The other alternative is sell the country to the Chinese. They at least have some concept of human rights, hard work and a functioning country. I do not know any longer how this country can be saved.

Russia is still reporting on the ‘ethnic domination’, a nice word for what we should probably call genocide of the white boers.

Harry Booyens with a 2 hour radio show in-depth on the history and the reasons for Xenophobia, aka, sheer racism. Here is the description and the link to the show can be followed from this.
http://www.radiofreesouthafrica.com/why-the-extreme-violence-in-south-africa/
The answer is Communism.
BBC interviewer to released ANC activist Daniel (Denis) Goldberg: “Will South Africa now become a Communist Paradise?”
Goldberg: “I wish. But actually South Africa will become a Capitalist Paradise”.
Hence the problems described above.
No, it’s not. Or is Africa so bankrupt that its traditional lifeways are inferior to The White Man’s Way? Many of us here know that Ubuntu is no empty word. That that is the model apon which African Society has always been based. It knew very little of rank materialism; of living for this world only. But that the modern Black man aspires almost exclusively to the trappings of a materialistic lifestyle dose him no honour.
The South Africans are implementing “Communism with African characteristics” – that is, expropriation without compensation. A very simplistic, easy to understand version of Communism. It nicely complements the rampant cronyism within the administration.
The author’s last sentence sums it all up: ” I do not know any longer how this country can be saved.” Neither do I.
While it is undeniable that a significant proportion of Black South Africans have slipped back into barbarism, as the documented evidence of the types and the levels of Black savagery bear witness, yet, when contrasted with “white mischief” in South Africa, and as also, most especially, in the United States at the time of the White invasion there, we are faced only with negligible differences in degrees of degeneration when both instances are compared to the norm: a truly human society, and not just a collectivity that “marches on its stomach”, is one in which its native religion– as was always the case, hic et ubique– is paramount; everything else was subordinated to “the will of the Gods”. So, when holding up the post-Christian social organization of the Huguenots in Suid Afrika, beholden to Calvin and the industrialism which it favours (rather than to Luther and the return to The Bible) as the standard of civilisation, this smacks rather of the pot calling the kettle black. And to say that modern, atheistic, post-Buddhist, neo-Marxist China has “… at least (have) some concept of human rights, hard work and (is an example of) a functioning country,” is to destroy any merit which this author’s diatribe may initially have possessed. For, in the name of what value or standard does a people have a civilisation worthy to be so called? Because of its GDP? Or because, as in Maoist China, “to be rich is to be glorious!”? Or is it because of its faithfulness to Tradition, be it Christian, Buddhist, Islamic, Red Indian or otherwise?
The Black manifestations of frustration, in the form of “xenophobic violence” or of the sabotage of state infrastructure, etc, is but a case of “the chickens coming home to roost.” The recently released (of the 1990’s South Africa) Black political prisoners and exiles from abroad, anxious as they were to sit in the master’s chair, did what politicians the world over do: they promised the millions of desperate ‘voters’ what they knew they could not deliver. In short, they lied. They created unrealistic expectations that have come back to haunt the rest of the country with a murderous vengeance. Except that many of the Black pseudo-elite (as opposed to the true elite, like Bambatha, Sobukwe, and yes of course, the great Shaka), are now no longer around to take responsibility for this “low-level civil war” (as professor Patrick Bond of the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal so aptly characterised the crime epidemic), into which post-Apartheid South Africa has descended, and which shows no signs of having reached its nadir.
So, spare us please your pietistic(as opposed to pious) hand-wringing and indignant mutterings. The new South Africans are only following the gravitational path traced out by democracy, when the latter trounced monarchy, first in Europe, then in the colonies; where the masters of the world made sure that the modernist mantra of “liberty, equality and the rights of man” displaced the traditional hierarchies; those hierarchies whose apex is always dominated by Truth and the belief in absolute and eternal values– not a “living by bread alone”!
For my part I say, leave arguing over who has the better mouse-trap, and give the country back to King Goodwill Zwelithini. Now that the myth of democracy has been showed to have no clothes, give the Zulu monarchy a chance!
bye bye
You crop what you plant.
This is consequence of colonialism, discrimination and rascism.
Poor people are uneducated, they are angry, the country does not get better. The africans in power after apartheid have been incompetent. But for their eyes , they are africans. South Africa may have been kind of developeded from the british rule, but always the indigenous suffered and was discriminated. I am from Latin America, i am not white and i know what i am talking about, i see the people everyday frustrated, sick and tired to just be the deplorable because we are “the conquered”. It is a real pity that innocent people suffer the consequences of this.
Rascism is bad, ignorance is bad, violence is bad. But, this is a consequence of imperialism, and people are angry.
So sad
I was working and living there in the late 90s in a 2 year contract.
Was already pretty bad then crime-wise, but what is happening now is terrifying.
Still have old friends there and hope they can get the hell out.
Yes – very true. I have worked amongst Australian indigenous peoples for several years. Consequences of Imperialism are all too easily forgotten – by those who benefitted from imperialism, but the native peoples know too well what it created and what is coming.
May I utter the lamentation; “Oh ye of little knowledge and comprehension”.
Some blame Imperialism, some blame capitalism, and others communism, failing to realise that both the ‘C’s are the same coin of mammon.
At school, I was taught that the very first English attempts to establish settlements in the ‘New World’ failed. They simply disappeared, and nobody knew why.
With the new ‘Penal Colony’ established at Sydney Cove after the closure of the English Rubbish Dump in America in 1776, The boat people from England consisted of two classes; the slaves, er sorry the convicts and their guards and overlords. The slaves, sorry the convicts believed that it was the duty of their guards to clothe and feed them, after all they were simply dumped at Sydney Cove without any say in the matter. The guards or soldiers or whatever else one may call them had always been clothed and fed by their employers, in other words the government in England, and so the newly based settlement at Sydney Cove relied on supplies sent out from England for survival, This has been called ‘Communal Living’.
For some reason, this new Penal Colony was heading for extinction until the event that concerned the convict Rose, who had been a farmer and knew how to plant crops and farm the land. Rose was given a block of land to farm and to become self sufficient, and once that happened then other convicts decided that farming was better than starving by relying on the government supplies.
Of course the Officers in what became known as the ‘Rum Corps’ used their position to increase their power and wealth, such as the likes of Cap’t James McArthur, and this abuse led to the Rum Rebellion against the authoritarian Governor Bligh, but that’s another story.
When we look at the situation in South Africa which is a repeat of what happened in Rhodesia now called Zimbabwe, all we can see is the decline of self-sufficiency. The South African Government’s announcement earlier this year in regard to land confiscation is simply about removing from the land people both black and white who know how to use the land and supply food to their neighbours. The very same thing occurred in Zimbabwe where the farmers and their workers were attacked and murdered, and the farms given to those who had no idea of how the use the land.
If we go back in history and study the various communities throughout the world, be they black, white, brown or yellow, we find the same constants; people residing within those communities applying their skills and knowledge in husbandry, in farming in producing cloth and utensils residing together working together and surviving together with little interference from any government bureaucracy, which normally can be an impediment. However such bureaucracies have some benefits as in supplying the basic utensils as in water, power and roads for the greater benefit of the whole community. Again though, if such bureaucracies crave power, and via corruption of office usurp that power, the results are what is being witnessed in South Africa, and prior to that in Zimbabwe, and of course much the same as in America and in Australia.
In Australia, when the employment rate (full time employment with a basic wage) was in the 90% range, Gough Whitlam came to power in 1972. Gough believed that Australia was a rich country, and so implemented an ‘unemployment scheme’ where a person who could not obtain the employment he/she desired could receive a ‘Dole’ payment.
Now this was good, so the young and naïve thought, and they found that by seeking to have an exotic job such as a ‘Lion Trainer’ there would be no employment for them and thus they qualified for the dole. Then by living in a group, or with their parents they could survive on this dole and enjoy their lives.
The problem with the dole is that it provided an existence, but not a comfortable living, and soon those on the dole saw that others who were employed had a better lifestyle, and so some returned to work, while others resorted to crime.
And then Bob Hawke came along, the former President of the ACTU (Australian Council of Trade Unions) and in 1985 made a most remarkable statement. He said that Australian workers were highly overpaid and thus permitted most of our manufacturing jobs to be sent overseas, and then the government started using ‘the Dole’ as a weapon against the worker, much in the way that Mugabe used his ‘army’ against the Zimbabwean farmers.
So what is being reported here today in regards to the murders and mayhem, and is considered xenophobic is simply those unfortunate enough to miss out on the ‘gravy train’ of government bureaucracy expressing their anger at being denied a living, and contempt at any other person better off than they.
And of course, none of this is by accident, after all it has been described as ‘The Reesian way’ after its founder, General John Rawlings Rees of Tavistock.
Attacking the author.ZZ
“to state it simply, the South African blacks kill everyone that they can get their hands on, that hail from anywhere in the rest of Africa.”
That is a bigoted, xenophobic statement, pure and simple.
That is hardly the point.
The real question is “is it factual?”
If not, then maybe you have a point
but if yes, then you really don’t.
Facts>ideology is what I recommend.

I was about to post it, but then I saw this last sentence and changed my mind.
In fact, you are now warned that if you continue in the same tone you will be banned for a few weeks to cool off. And if that does not help, then this ban will become permanent.

Xenophobia in South Africa = True
South African Government incompetent = True
Afrikaners getting a Republic in South Africa = False
And with the White Race getting taken over and going extinct in its home regions of USA and Europe, is it really worthwhile worrying about the always so innocent, always so deserving Afrikaners in South Africa? Tantamount to rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
Feel free restate it vot tak but keep the language correct.
The last census described the populations as follows :
“The 2011 census figures for these categories were Black South African at 76.4%, White at 9.1%, Coloured at 8.9%, Asian at 2.5%, and Other/Unspecified at 0.5%.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethnic_groups_in_South_Africa
So, understand that to describe people as Black South African or White South African or Colored South African etc., is the correct and formal usage. Personally I think it is delusional.
The reality is that it is still pretty tribal and there are many distinct groups. There is a sizable Indian population, a growing Chinese population, a sizable Korean population, a sizable Boer population and sizable Black Tribal populations of which the Zulus are the most distinct at least in my opinion, but soon everybody else will pipe up and say … No No, we, are the most distinctive. To my mind, those distinctions are actually wonderful and my hope is that the tribes keep their traditions. But, that is a forlorn hope.
It is not these populations, the Indians, the Chinese, the Koreans, the Boers that are carrying out the Xenophobic attacks. It is the black population, correctly described directly from the language in the last Census, in other words, the language that the Government of South Africa considers as correct, attacking, burning people and shooting at trucks and truck drivers of specifically the Zimbabweans, the ones from Mozambique, Nigerians, Tanzanians and those from Malawi.
I don’t know how else to describe these attacks that are xenophobic and brutal. It is not the words that are wrong, it is the violence that is wrong and unacceptable.
People generally do not get it. We are still tribal and there are a lot of different groups. That is why Nelson Mandela called it a ‘rainbow nation’.
@Your Writer: “It is not these populations, the Indians, the Chinese, the Koreans, the Boers that are carrying out the Xenophobic attacks.”
Precisely: it is not the minority of more affluent colonist ethnic groups (Indians, Europeans etc) but the majority the poor indigenous section of the population who express rage at “foreigners taking our jobs”. Exactlyt the same as in Europe: it is not the Anglo Zio Capitalists who are against unlimited immigration but “the deplorables” — the native working class of Europe.
I think you need to update yourself about who the poor indigenous is these days. There are thousands upon thousands of White South Africans (correct description according to formal census), in shanty towns or squatter camps.
Of course, the comeback to that statement is that black poverty is still worse than white poverty – and nobody keeps the government to account for the poverty rates.
It is not good to kill 50 per year – and it is worse to burn them.
@Amarynth: “It is not good to kill 50 per year – and it is worse to burn them.”
It is not good to kill 1. But keep a sense of proportion. I foolishly left South Africa for Britain in 1956, and now live in Israel. So I have spent most of my life in 2 countries. One of which, Great Britain, has taken part in the killing of 1 Million Iraqi, 1/2 Million Syrians, unknown thousands of Libyans, a couple of thousand Serbs, a couple of million Indonesians, and is currently killing and starving the Yemeni. The other country for which I left South Africa namely, little Israel, kills in smaller numbers than the UK does, but it is still thousands of Palestinians.
Of the 3 countries I have lived in, “Black” South Africa’s tally of 50 foreigners per year is small in comparison with Xenophobic slaughter by “White” Britain and Israel.
@Vot Tak & The Saker: “is it factual?”.
Not according to the BBC: out of 3 million “foreign” Africans in South Africa, only about 50 “foreigners” are killed per year ie, 500 in the past ten years. So it is not a factual statement but a racist anti-Bantu statement, and Vot is right to be indignant.
But what is shocking is the _generally_ high murder rate in South Africa: about 7 times higher than in the U$A.
Dr. NG Maroudas
Cheers, and thanks.
Just a few final notes.
Talking about words.
Dr Maroudas, the word Bantu is not used specifically because it reminds people of the old Bantu Administration, an exceedingly brutal, racist and very white old Governmental administrative branch that was supposed to manage the black peoples in the country. Each time you use that, I cringe because I know the evils that this administrative department did. That word is repugnant to me and I would guess most other South Africans. I would easily call someone else Black, but I would not call them Bantu. So, let’s kneejerk about the right things.
Dr Maroudas, the number of those killed in xenophobic violence does not make it less good or less bad. The bad thing is that it happens and that the current government by their own admission has no ability to keep the country in a relatively safe state. This is usually a failed state.
You all can pick words for as long as you like – words that will only make you feel better. But all it tells me, is that you are not walking the streets, have no idea how people describe one another and have even less of an idea that one racism was simply exchanged for another. White people are by legislation almost excluded from the workplace. There are black unions, and there is a white union now because we are not welcome in the black unions.
The descriptive terms that I use are fully expressive of how the various groups are described even in legislation and in census. The groups are separated by legislation, different legislation for different cultural groupings and based on color.
South Africa is an exceedingly racist country – before the 1994 freedom election, and after the 1994 freedom election it is still racist. Finding different words will make no difference to what is a fact. The racism is inculcated in the legal system. One example .. black mothers get a kind of a government subsidy for some years on having a baby. White mothers do not get it.
The populations do not live in harmony. There are huge civilizational differences starting with religions and just something like work ethic, abiding by laws and what is considered criminal and what not. We had a Truth and Reconciliation Committee that was supposed to heal some of the wounds of the past. In hindsight, it fully failed. Kindly tell me now how the wounds of the past can be healed? Or are we going to sit in a hundred years and tell one another how bad apartheid was. It was brutal, bad and unfair. In the Truth and Reconciliation process, people that were killed under apartheid was set at 500 (By this I mean state sponsored violence). Aha, only 500 over many years you may say – not so many. It however does not even start to describe the evils of the apartheid government. Yet, they did make accommodation for others by setting up homelands for tribes. That also failed. But it is equally a mistake to say that the colonial government killed masses of black people. That kind of genocide did not exist and it is erroneous to think that there was the same situation as in the US, where the original inhabitants was killed in bunches. And today, the racist killings have not stopped, and the government of this day condones it while harking to the evils of the past.
I’ve just seen new statistics on poverty from the Household Affordability Index compiled by the Pietermaritzburg Economic Justice and Dignity Group (PMBEJD).
13.8 million people in South Africa, are living on less than R19 a day – that is about US$ 1.69
More than half of South Africa’s population live on less than R41 a day – that is about 3 US dollars.
Yet, the president is something like the 2nd richest man in the country, and that little firebrand Malema, is a millionaire a few times over. The money in the country is going to the political classes. Most up and coming people in South Africa now, did not live under apartheid. But the racism has just inverted and it is again legislated on the basis of color.
Choosing different words will make no difference to fact.
With these statistics it is clear that hiding under racism or the sins of the apartheid government is not working any longer. Both governmental institutions and private business is now falling apart so fast that somebody is going to react and I’m afraid, this will be more violence.
The white population have had it in spades. The language in this following video is Afrikaans and there are English subtitles. The subtitles do not do justice to the depth of this man’s despair. He drives for a living and he is white which makes him a target. He has just fought off a 3rd attempt on his life, having been knifed twice before. Now bear in mind how one drives in South Africa – you approach a stop sign very carefully and slowly – your car is locked and windows are up – you check out the environment for any groups of people and the cross street for oncoming traffic, while slowly proceeding and your readiness is one of being prepared to drive off very fast in any direction. You never stop. If you have a weapon and you are white, changes are that if you protect yourself, you are the one to go to jail. This man truly describes the feeling on the street – we don’t care anymore if anyone calls us racist because it is now simply used as an epithet to hide the true situation in the country. In fact, a few organized groups send out messaging and I for one would never drive anywhere, before I have not checked every single road for the situation according to this messaging where my population tries to support one another and keep one another alive.
This man says: “And yet, there are a group of people in South Africa that simply pretend these things are not happening.”
We cannot any longer pretend that these things are not happening. (Btw, Afrikaans is a relatively new language and sometimes still word poor. We cuss a lot.)

YW, you say your govt is incompetent, things are falling apart and there will be even more violence on the streets. South Africa is no exception — it cannot be an exception because it is an integral part of Anglo Zio Capitalism — the whole “Western” world is run by incompetent governments with things falling apart and violence increasing. Look at France, look at Britain, look at the U$A, look at Ukraine, look at Latvia — look at Sweden. Your problem is not that you have Bantu in power — your problem is that they are bad Bantu. Britain has exactly the same problem — bad Britishers in power.
The only way out that I can see is the way of Communism and/or the Higher Religions (Buddhism, Christianity or Islam). Or even Secular Republicanism.
Anything but Anglo Zio Capitalism (or in South Africa’s case: Anglo-American Zio Capitalism).
Please go and read this and kindly refrain from using the word Bantu. It is bad connotation.
“While black South Africans appreciate their own language and culture, they regarded with suspicion the Nationalist Government’s approach to their ethnicity, believing it was used in the apartheid plan to isolate them. Therefore, this language term took on a skin of emotive meaning and became a symbol of the oppressors.”
“The term Bantu is no longer used except in its original context in reference to Bantu languages. The term African is correct and courteous. It is one of the few terms that black South Africans have chosen, that has wide acceptance and that has not been mediated or appropriated through colonization. ”
https://www.sahistory.org.za/article/defining-term-bantu
I started my response in Afrikaans, but then had to resist temptation, and retype in English.
The slow-motion collapse has become severe, but the attitude expressed is not new. I heard it in the mid 1990s, and repeatedly since. This also relates to your claim that blacks (which proportion?) kill anything and everything. Of course, this is as unfair as ascribing the crimes of the apartheid state organs to (almost) every Afrikaner, and is thus angry rhetoric, although in both cases, general indifference to the crimes by the respective populations does constitute popular thuggery…
The vast majority of people who leave cite physical security concerns, even after the crime rate dropped (it rose again more recently). In reality, the majority who leave leave due to economic insecurity. People whose family members are murdered usually stay if they have economic security, and people who did not suffer such crimes leave if their lives become economically untenable, and they still have the means to leave.
The concerns that the person raises are bemusing. South African black fertility (TFR) is under three—who is breeding out of control? The comment suggests that the speaker has been listening to degenerate US psychobabblers. Take Philip Gourevitch, who refers to baHutu mass rape victims of Kagame’s genocidal bUgandan (fresh from massacring 1-2million baHutu in 1994, by their own e.g. Erik Hakizimana’s estimates) forces in eastern DRC as “breeding at the limit of human possibility,” for example, or those who claim mass child bearing by US blacks when the US black TFR is at replacement levels—i.e. cocaine clowns who have never heard of Poisson statistics.
The other bemusing matter is taxes. While criminals are unlikely to pay income tax, they do, insofar as they have legitimate jobs in addition to criminal activity, bear (and regardless of income source, pay) VAT. A question: for manufacturing, does the government reimburse VAT paid by manufacturers for their source material, as is the case for sales taxes in other countries?
Mr writer you need to realize that your insistence on separating people as Black and white is a serious hindrance towards understanding the truth about human realities. You are an interesting fellow who has a lot to offer South Africa. I agree with you that the ANC government has performed badly particularly in recent years. Human Migration is currently a serious problem the world over.Little South Africa is over burdened with Migration problems. Powerful Economies of Europe and USA are up in arms against Migration. Unfortunately uncontrolled migration inevitably leads to war.
A Historical Note
The Boers claim of arriving in South Africa at the time of the great “Bantu” migration is a historical falsehood. It was even demised by the arch vain glorious Cecil John Rhodes himself. After the discovery of Diamonds in Kimberly, Bechuanaland. The Boers presented a paper before a British adjudicator, claiming ownership by right of purchase from “Mwenemutapa” (ruler of the old empire of Zimbabwe). Kgosi Mothibi put a claim on behalf of the Barolong people. The Barolong historians went on to count names of fourteen rules between Mothibi and the legendary warriur KingTau. Barolong were known Iron-smiths who previously settled in the Iron ore rich area of Thabazimbi around 750 ad.
Jika, what you need to realize is that those separations exist as well as deep cultural separations. To describe them is simply accurate and there are cultural areas where these separations fade, especially in music. This exists.
As to language, I use the formal government descriptors. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethnic_groups_in_South_Africa
You need to make a separation of what the boers did and where they settled and what Cecil John Rhodes did and where he settled. When I speak about the White Boers, trekboers, voortrekkers, I speak of them as an existent distinct minority whose history and culture must be preserved and the killings must stop. If I speak of the Zulus, I speak of them as an existent distinct minority and I hope they are preserving their history and culture. These two distinct minorities were particularly screwed over during the negotiations before the 1994 election and did not receive protection as minorities. Neither of those two distinct minority groups include Cecil John Rhodes and his establishment of Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe.
This continual conflation of Brit with Boer historically is not helpful to anyone. In fact about Cecil John Rhodes I speak as little as possible because his excesses in his time basically dwarfed most others.
Some comments. Firstly, there were xenophobic riots e.g. on trains as early as 1998.
Secondly, we see here societal pathology. I posit the root cause is lead poisoning, with blacks being more heavily affected due to their ancestors having skipped the bronze age (higher uptake per unit exposure, as evidenced e.g. by higher blood lead levels, with brain damage leading to pathology/criminality/thuggery occurring mainly prenatally and in infancy; lead occurring in copper and tin deposits but not iron deposits, with population selection for reduced uptake during a bronze age as lead exposure damages gametes; Sub-Saharan African ethnic groups occasionally worked copper alloys for ceremonial and other special purposes, after developing iron metallurgy, but did not have a regular bronze age). Blacks always have higher population average blood lead levels than do whites of the same age in the same region at the same time.
Thirdly, the (stupid) thugs who were committing murders and other mayhem in the 90s have now reached administrative age, while the current young adults are only modest improvements. A lead petrol free generation is at its oldest not quite fourteen years old. In nine years, the young adults should try to muscle the older adults out of state posts and administrative functions. In the meantime the bloody farce continues.
You forgot that other scapegoat, genetics. Oh yes, and I nearly forgot about the influence of the environment on nullifying the importance of human free-will in the life of man.
I still do not understand your comment, after having several days to think about it. In my comment, I make reference to (genetic) selection in response to environment, so as to alleviate the effect of environment. You say I do not make reference to genetics. Then you say that environment and genetics are a means of denying free will.
I would imagine that free will, if it is something empirically describable, would be stochastic, and thus describable on a statistical level (people choosing e.g. between good and evil, choosing good when evil is tempting, or evil, when good is tempting, or good when good is tempting, or evil when evil is tempting). The whole point about lead poisoning is that it reduces impulse control. When one acts on impulse, it is harder to resist a temptation. Many temptations are regarded as evil, as giving in to them has irreversible consequences, e.g. (actual, regardless of a prosecutor’s description) second degree murder, so a momentary lapse has a permanent evil effect. The free will to resist a temptation is statistically degraded by lead poisoning.
Perhaps you could try to make your point more clear.
@Johan Meyer: “Blacks _always_ have higher population average blood lead levels than do whites of the same age in the same region at the same time.”
_Always_ is a lot of samples. _Forever_ is a lot of time. Here is a more credible Link, to National Institute of Health:
_No_ population-based studies have compared the bone lead concentrations of _large numbers of African Americans and Whites_, and _no_ studies have included participants across the full spectrum of SES.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2424096/
[Please to note that what you call “Blacks” they call “African Americans”. And what they call “Whites” should more correctly be called “European Americans” because they came to America from Europe. In my opinion it is stupid to classify people according to the percentage of Melanin pigment in their skin. Nor do I find it surprising that African Americans should have more lead in their bones, because they live in the poorer areas with more antiquated plumbing, with less access to clean water, do dirtier jobs and handle more toxic chemicals than the rest of the population.
In a chemical firm for which I once worked, workers of Bantu origin were given the more toxic chemicals to mix, because their black skin was supposed to be more resistant.
Black meaning of mainly Sub-Saharan ancestry, white meaning of mainly European ancestry.
Plumbing is not even the main issue, although it occasionally gets attention. In fact, when adequate people deal with the water supply, and acid water is not put through the water system, the scale on the inside of the lead pipe prevents lead leaching. Also, occupational exposure is not currently a major source of infant lead exposure.
The main issue is lead paint, although the scientific fraud of geometric mean of “confirmed” blood lead level (instead of arithmetic mean of popilation-randomly sampled blood lead level) makes the problem look much smaller than it really is (hint: sporadic i.e. Poisson process arrival of doses with mean interarrival time much greater than biological half-life; do a Monte Carlo model of blood lead level, and find the ratio of arithmetic mean of population using random sampling versus geometric mean of “confirmed” blood lead level, with confirmed interpreted as second reading when first is above 10 micrograms/decilitre).
Note that US blacks are no more exposed to lead paint than US whites—look at the CPS supplement for Dec 1994, as an example. Higher BLL is not due to greater exposure.
Do you expect NHANES (e.g. III or later) to be biased in selection for SES?
I do emphatically agree that bone lead is not appropriate than blood lead (much longer biological half life), however even then there are issues. Blacks have far less bone calcium release and reabsorption, due to their ancestral low calcium diets. Lead is a calcium analog, and UV exposure typically results in calcium (and lead) release from bones into the blood, where the kidneys can release the lead into the urine stream. This whites may have even lower bone lead than what a naive interpretation of their uptake may suggest.
Note also that once lead uptake is genetically variable relative to exposure, there are two major consequences. Firstly, twin study correlations suggestive of genetic causation can no longer rule out not overly limit environmental causation. Secondly, dose response studies that include parental measures (in attempting to control for genetic causation) will underestimate, and may even result in a sign reversal, from actual to detected dose response.
Johan, I notice you avoid a hot topic, Flint water. Headline in WaPo:
Clean, affordable drinking water is a racial issue, by Anna Clark.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2019/09/23/clean-affordable-drinking-water-is-racial-issue/
The issue, while bad, is not on the scale of lead paint. Moreover, your source asserts, rather than demonstrates, that it is a racial issue. This begs a question—on what basis? Higher black blood lead levels, as would be expected both under a racistly variable environmental causation and a genetically variable uptake causation scenario?
Also, where did the author demonstrate that lead pipes would be a racial issue? If anything, the author demonstrated the reverse, with the Chicago example (mandatory lead pipes until the 1980s). Surely, one should then be able to find disproportionate examples of white (relative to black) blood lead, were genetics not implicated in lead poisoning. Thanks, actually, for that example.
Incidentally, I did not avoid the Flint issue, but made specific reference to it. I shall quote myself doing so:
“In fact, when adequate people deal with the water supply, and acid water is not put through the water system, the scale on the inside of the lead pipe prevents lead leaching.”
I take it that you are not familiar with the particulars of what happened in Flint.

The majority of us grew up dodging bullets during late apartheid. This country was founded upon violence, starting with the genocide of the indigenous Khoisan population. It is hardly ever discussed that SA’s 6.8 million mixed race population has 95% maternal African DNA admixture with 50% paternal European DNA admixture. 65% of them have maternal Khoisan DNA admixture. Zero paternal Khoisan DNA admixture and zero maternal European DNA admixture.
The Wikipedia entry for the Khoisan peoples states they were at some point the largest ethnic group on planet earth. Today you will not see a single ethnic Khoisan family just walking about in any South African city. They are an extinct people.
What do you expect from a country founded upon violence and genocide. Not long ago the South African blacks were pastoral folk. Colonials cut off their freedom of movement, stole their land and live stock and put them to work in mines and as servants.
Go visit any South African town (I have seen them all) and you will see the spacial planning Apartheid economy, with the white economy in the center and surrounded by shack townships on the outskirts.
South Africa has a long way to go. The current government would do good by going into full communism for a few decades. The African people are naturally communist in that they share everything. A few decades of no internet, no trash TV, no liquor, drugs. Just an era to resettle. It’s been a brutal few centuries for these people. Give them the space they need to love each other again.
Kullid, I think you are the first contributor on this thread who really knows what he is talking about. Cheers!
My native land was founded on violence (as were most countries), and your statistics give witness to that violence. There are ways out of ethnic violence: one of them is the teachings of the higher religions — Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism (Judaism is ruled out as an inherently divisive religion). The other way out of ethnic violence, as you say, is a period of full Communism like in the Soviet Union, to bring literacy, adequate diet, housing, higher education, technical advance and participation in the social structure of the country to a wider cross-section of the population.
absolutely. But if we absolutely have to use one of the Abrahamic religions as a base-load human operating system to cultivate an advanced culture then let be remixed with homegrown Ubuntu values. Or simply scrap the “skygod” system all together. Chinese communism seems to be doing fine without it.
But all of that is beyond my level of understanding. All I can say is I have travelled South Africa extensively and have seen first hand the damage that was caused. This author has never displayed her/his outrage re the situation on the ground in SA. Nobody ever stops to look at a rat infested shack township and is absolutely disgusted with what the apartheid regime has done to this place.
Kullid, it is not only the old Apartheid Regime, it is something even older that is at work now: Original Sin. The forces of Individual and Collective Greed, where a tiny handful are “millionaires many times over” (Your Writer) while many more live in “rat infested shanty shacks” (your side of the situation). That is why, in desperation or otherwise, we recommend Communism ie the Bantu tradition of Sharing.
PS Although I am basically Christian in ethics, I must admit you have scored a good point against Sky Gods: Chinese Communism has no Sky God; neither has Chinese Confucianism, which is much older and more ingrained than their Communism. And of course Indo-Chinese Buddhism is a successful higher religion which has no Sky Gods either. It seems to boil down to a Sharing Culture, a Caring Ethic and some luck in choosing a Good Leader. There are no Good Leaders in the Western World today.
Go read part 3 at least.

You might as well read this as well, specifically the section on closing notes:

And then, its good to remember apartheid is more than 25 years over and done with.
One issue and one comment with regards to dodging bullets versus crime, regarding the “Cape Coloureds,” and some comments about ancestry and Khoisan population and ancestry:
Firstly, the idea that dodging bullets is causal in crime is untenable. Coloured crime rates including murder rates have long been much higher than that of the rest of the population, including the Bantu population. In part this is a consequence of lead paint, with Jan Smuts helping the Canadians and Americans prevent the League of Nations from banning lead paint, and with the British introducing lead paint on a massive scale in the Cape. In part it is due to the massive concentration of lead in petrol (0.8g/l until the early 80s; effects seen in murder rates ~23 years later). A big part of the apartheid thuggery is also lead poisoning, as whites are also susceptible, albeit not to the same degree as the Bantu and Khoisan.
Lead paint was only banned in South Africa in law in 2010, and it took repeated police raids by Zuma’s government to more or less stop production by about 2015. Ceasing production of lead paint does not remove the existing lead paint, however.
The Dutch settlers were themselves already very heavily lead poisoned (hence their/ons thuggery), as the Dutch were busy with mass production by the (originally ancient Greek, though now “Dutch process”) white lead (the base of lead paint) through vinegar production.
With regards to ancestry and current populations, “relatively pure” and Khoisan language speakers may be found mainly in the Karoo to Botswana and Namibian areas and in southern Angola. There are also such groups in Tanzania. The amaZulu are about 50% Khoisan by mDNA, and the amaXhosa about 25%. Cape Town whites are about 7%. In Namibia, there is at least one Khoisan speaking ethnic group that has mainly Bantu mDNA, but Khoisan Y-chromosomes.
The colonial (Dutch and to a lesser extent, Bantu) genocide was not complete. Being a survivor of genocidal or other colonial violence is not statistically predictive of future violence; as an example, Haiti had (prior to the US/Canadian/French coup of 2004, but after the various US juntas up to 1994) a murder rate much lower than the US up to the mid 1990s, and several west African countries have an even lower murder rate, some lower than Canada, usually due to (neoliberal) economic collapse (compare with Russia’s collapse under Yeltsin, with crime rates recently plunging in Russia, as expected from reduced lead poisoning), resulting in the collapse of fuel consumption, hence lead exposure, before any changes in lead concentration in fuel.
I see in that video what seems to be the Maitland power plant cooling towers, although the angle is unfamiliar. Is that Bokmakierie looking northward, or Belgravia looking westward? My parents met while teaching in the early 80s at Alexander Sinton…
Spes Bona, not Alexander Sinton.
As a person who is non white and having lived in both white [apartheid era] government and the post apartheid [black government] , to be fair the corruption an crime under the democratic dispensation is far worse than under apartheid. Proof of corruption being out of control is to look at STATE OWNED ENTERPRISES[SOE] under the black democratic government and previously under the apartheid government. Public institutions like Eskom[Electricity] ,Transnet[Rail, roads and ports] ,Water Boards etc were one of the best in the world. Now the same infrastructure of electricity ,transport ,water and others are collapsing and falling apart. This is not due to the lack of money but the theft of it through corruption by awarding work to unqualified individuals [ based on race ,where a white person or other non black is not awarded because of the of the color of their skin, this time being not black] or giving it to companies who are not qualified on merit for the work but is connected to the ANC official in charge.
Now with crime ,there s a complete break down of law and order in South Africa. You are more likely to be arrested for failing to pay a traffic fine than being caught and convicted if you rob and murder someone in South Africa. This isn’t because there is a shortage of police or law enforcement , but I is due to the fact the moral compass in society is such that there is no value to human life and police[97 percent are black] are just corrupt government employees who not only don’t fight crime but assist criminals.
If you point out corruption and criminal behaviour or even incompetency in South Africa, you are immediately labeled as racist by most black Africans ,whether they in parliament , government workers or the ordinary black citizen . This applies to the white ,Asian or Coloured races .
This statement is verified and given weight by the under Secretary General of the ANC Jesse Duarte, stating that the ANC has become a racist party t to NON BLACKS in South Africa.
https://www.iol.co.za/news/politics/the-anc-is-racist-and-tribalistic-says-gatvol-jessie-duarte-37806623
Johannesburg – ANC deputy secretary-general Jessie Duarte has delivered a stinging rebuke of the governing party, describing it as “tribalistic and racist” for marginalising members and voters who are not black Africans. She said she was appalled by and uncomfortable about what was going on in ANC WhatsApp groups, where young people talk about amak*** and amab****** (racial slurs for Indian and coloured people).
The sad fact is that I South Africa if you are not a black and point out corrupt and criminal behaviour , you will be accused of racism, while the merit of your accusation is not taken to account.
South Africa and the ruling black government and people have lost the moral high ground which the world backed and praised them for in the past. Now it is turning into race based state [this time black] . The only difference being that this policy has allowed for criminal activity [public and private] to be accepted by blaming it all on the past apartheid. As no responsibility is taken for actions by the democratic black South African government and others are denied because of their race , this is pushing South Africa towards a failed state . If this happens and they blame the Whites ,Asians and Coloureds and colonialism , know his is an excuse to accept responsibility for their racist actions and corrupt practices and low moral ground.
I am a Black man..not African but of african descent from the west.
it is truly hard for me to deal with this..impossible really. I have been trying to read it whole since earlier today but the words are bouncing off my eyes and brain
i dont know what to say…we should be beyond this by now. the capitalists are behind this for sure..looks like an aspect of color terrorism spawed in the bosim of western capitalism. but where are the African political parties..the ANC for eg?
aren’t they about protecting their national patrimony, their fatherland..motherland.. from just such egregious outside manipulation?
oh man……!
