Today is a day of celebration because democracy is a cause to celebrate, to be joyful. And when democracy conquers fear and blackmail, then it also leads to redemption, and a way forward.
Today, the Greek people send a very powerful message. A message of dignity, of determination. A message that they are taking control of their choices. Many may try to ignore the will of a government. But no one can ignore the will of a people who are seeking to live with dignity, to live life on their own terms.
Today, democracy trumps fear. Our people’s determination trumps fear. I am confident that tomorrow we will set a new course for all the peoples of Europe. One that will return us to Europe’s founding values of democracy and solidarity, and will send a strong message that we are determined to not only to remain in Europe but to also live with dignity in Europe. To prosper, to work as equals among equals.
Let us, then, take a decisive stand in support of democracy–for a better future for all of us, in Greece and Europe.
I am very hopeful.
Thank you.
I see he has already spoken to Putin about the referendum…….
Rather, about “what next”?
His set of balls just resigned.
This soft leather-shoed Liberal will cave if he doesn’t partner up with Russia and China.
The Germans will do to him what the Nazis did to Greece in WWII if he goes 1 on 1.
Give him even more money?
Hurrah for the people of Greece.
Allow them to speak with anyone as a free nation.
Ecb and imf are rapists and pirates.
South America can rejoice too,
And get to work!
It is what Tsipras does not say that is most important.
He does not reveal the source of the “fear” or identify the perpetrators of the “blackmail.”
Now, after a resounding victory of the Greek people, would be an excellent time (opportunity) for a revolutionary leader, for the leaders of Syriza (the government Party), to elaborate on their planned way forward for the Greek people.
But, as John Belushi would say: Nooooo! That is the Greek people’s NO is answered by their leaders with no (that is none), suggestions for the correct pathway to economic liberation and political freedom.
The future is what political leaders are supposed to design.
The Syriza leaders have some time (but only a short bit of time) to draw a picture of the future. Revolutionary leaders, (even non-revolutionaries such as Woodrow Wilson and Franklin Roosevelt, responded to great crisis, such as WWI and WWII, respectively, with lovely worded documents such as “The 14 Points,” and “The Four Freedoms,” respectively.
Surely Syriza’s leaders can do as well??? The slogans, “dignity” determination” and ‘democracy’ need some fleshing out.
Some will say that the Syriza leaders need time to think, after the referendum; but they have had decades to think. Time is running short, unless they are looking to make deals with the imperialists – out of sight and hearing of the Greek people. Negotiations, if they are deemed necessary, (how do you negotiate with thieves?), should be conducted in public. All interested parties, such as the citizens of Greece, should be able to observe the actions of their leaders and the actions of their enemies at the negotiating table. Secrets are for slaves.
The Greek people have spoken. Their NO is their empowerment. They are their own Prometheus (hopefully they will not be chained to the rock any longer, and crows are banned).
All the world is watching the Greeks.
Their NO is their everything.
The EU is the Anglo/American/Zionist creation, which they use to destroy the national sovereignty and pride of each European people, and, therefore, rule them as a conqueror rules a broken people.. Death to the EU! Life to Europe!
The Novorossyan Partisans and Russia’s revival triggered this upsurge of anti-imperialist resistance in Europe. The Greeks are just where they should be, on the front lines.
The news is good!
Life is good!
For the Democratic Republics!
IMAGINE
It’s the same ones denounced by the Lady Speaker” “so-called partners”.
The same as those who said the same to Blatter: “you won, but we don’t care, we don’t want you, you’re no one of us.”
And there’s a man in the moon….and, elephants can fly…. and….on and on, blah, blah, woof, woof….
One year ago, you had EU politicians on Maidan Square,
Yesterday, there were no EU politicians on Syntagma Square.
Yes,but it might have been “embarrassing” if a EU politician or two got hung by the people on the square.Plenty of lamp posts around I see.
It is absolutely laughable that the western media are reporting, sports two years old tragedy and many unrelated stories and almost nothing about the Greeks victory. I wonder why?
The people have spoken loud and clearly, but a politician’s words always remain cheep.
Come back when you’ve done it and removed the western
shekelsshackles … and I’ll applaud you.Can anyone provide a link to an analysis of the effect of a Greek default in respect of the derivatives linked to the loans and bonds that might be defaulted upon?
Saker I’d really like your comment on what happened to the finance minister and why and whether its a good thing or a bad thing.
I would venture the following guess: He was not well liked by those with whom future negotiations will take place. His personal negotiating style was too confrontational and direct for the Troika and their representatives. He was not on the best of terms with the Cruella Merkel. Lastly, I believe he sees the writing on the wall. The new minister is a much more seaoned negotiator; though in actuality more hardline on a number of issues. We’ll see and surely find out more in the next few weeks.
More nonsense. If Greece wants to survive they must leave Europe not stay in it. Abandon it completely.
“Europes founding values of solidarity” I guess Tsipras has been drinking the Kool Aid, he should crack open a history book. Ashame how this OXI vote has gone to waste.
He was talking about fear and blackmail. Who was/is been instilling this fear and blackmail?
Answer: The Tribe. Who else? After all, they have practiced this for thousands of years.

Where is all of this jubilation coming from? A great victory for the Greek people? A triumph of democracy? Did anything really change. Did Greece in any way escape the shackles of the Troika? Or the boot of the German export juggernaught? Has Greece cured itself in any manner from the viral disease which is the Euro? Has Tspiras or Syriza challanged forced austerity, the elimination of trade unions and government regulations. Has the system which makes Greece unable to control neither the value of its own currency, nor its budget, nor its own fiscal policy been challenged? Can Greek business now be more competitive other than by slashing regulations and taxes on the wealthy; while at the same time taxing earned income more heavily. Can Greek monetary policy now be suddenly controlled by elected Greek representatives to a greater extent? Can they now suddenly keep and increase jobs without competitive reduction of rules on foreign business? NO!! Time to awake and realize it is all a dog and pony show. It will not result in improvements to the declining living standards of the populace. It will not result in a decline in the numbers of Greeks living below the poverty line or a decline in the number of children facing shortages of food. They are still attached to the EU and the Troika. The will continue to be at the mercy of Germany and the wicked Frau Merkel. The military will continue to lurk in the shadows waiting for the first opportunity to strike. Afterall the biggest gravy train is NATO. The possible haircut will be placed on the backs of the children of Greece in the future; if for whatever reason they decide to remain as a slave to the creditors and not leave for some greener pasture. There’s no reason to celebrate folks. Those that are know absolutely nothing concerning economics. Nothing.

From thin air – nothing changed. NOTHING.
