Syrian government forces have liberated the districts of al-Ma’dhaniyah, al-Asali, al-Qadam and al-Jourah in the southern countryside of Damascus from ISIS. Government troops captured all these areas after air and artillery strikes had destroyed all the ISIS defense there.
The ISIS-linked news agency Amaq claimed that 16 Syrian Army (SAA) troops had been killed in the recent clashes.
According to pro-opposition sources, members of Jaish al-Islam, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and Jaish al-Abadali operating in the eastern part of the southern Damascus pocket have agreed on an evacuation deal that is set to be implemented on May 1.
Jaish al-Islam members will withdraw to the Turkish-held Syrian town of Jarabulus in the province of Aleppo. HTS members will withdraw to the province of Idlib. Jaish al- Abadali members will withdraw to the province of Daraa.
On April 29, members of the SAA and local tribal forces entered the villages of Junaynah, Jiyah, Shaqrah and Hoyqat Ma’esha, which had been controlled by the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
Later on the same day, SDF units, backed up by the US-led coalition, recaptured all the villages that they had lost on the eastern bank of the Euphrates.
According to pro-government sources, 8 SDF members, including a senior Arab commander Ahmad al-Jifil, were killed in the incident. Pro-Kurdish sources claimed that 12 SAA members had been killed.
Some sources also claimed that members of the Iranian-backed Baqir Brigade had participated in the operation. On April 6, the Baqir Brigade vowed to fight the US-led coalition and its proxies controlling eastern Syria.
According to pro-government sources, the April 29 incident was caused by the willingness of the local Arab tribes to retake their villages controlled by the Kurdish-dominated SDF.
On April 28, ISIS attacked SAA positions in the villages of Ashayir, Sukkariyah and al-Hiri in the province of Deir Ezzor. The attack was a response to an anti-ISIS security operation launched by the SAA in the area in late March.
Man, that something. Jews bombed Syrian military base with tactical nukes. And that happens not the first time.
That’s news worth talking about, isn’t that ?. President Rouchani promised retaliation but that’s only words. If the war not change in more aggressive manner so the fight will last forever. Russians must be okay with this. After all they came that their brethren in occupied Palestine have the right to defend themselves. Their logic is in unison with them. No surpresses!!!
Many years ago I read this u.s. army instruction booklet. It was written much like the elementary reading books I had in beginning reading and writing in elementary school.
It barely moved a seismograph. The link posted in other comments here gave it as reading magnitude 2.6. And that’s a logarithmic scale. When I looked it up, a reference said mag 5.0 was the same as 1 kt of TNT. And that 6.0 was 30 times more. It that scale continues, then 3.0 is 90x less than 5.0. which is 11 tons of TNT. And 2. 6 is even less. They blew up an ammo dump, and it made a big bang, but that’s it.
I’ve lived in earthquake country. You don’t notice less than a 5. You might hear a report that there was a tremor in the 4’s, and then you stop and think did you notice a vase vibrating or something around that time.
2.6 is nothing, and you’d need a seismograph to even notice. It wasn’t a nuke. It was just a big explosion.
There is a clear attempt to route Iranians and Hezbollah out of Syria. They might triumph if denial of war supplies and economic sanctions go hand in hand. That would spell a big trouble for SAA and Russians stationed in Syria.
Hezbollah is already leaving Syria. They are all returning to Lebanon due to intel that the fake state is about to attack.
The Israeli congress just gave unlimited power to Netanyahu to start a war. All he needs is Lieberman’s approval. And I doubt Lieberman has ever met a war he didn’t like.
Netanyahu is saying he doesn’t want a war. Netanyahu is a serial liar.
Israel would know that any action against Iran in Syria means also a war with Hezbollah, and the actual Syrian military as well. Which means they’d attack in Lebanon at the same time as any attacks in Syria.
If Israel starts a war, they would be facing a large and battlehardened force that’s been fortifying Lebanon for 20 years and that knows they kicked Israeli hiney last decade. Between them and Damascus are battle-harded Syrian and Iranian forces, include the Elite Tiger Force which just happens to be in southern Damascus killing radical Islamic militants right now. Damascus air defenses have proven to be rather tough, and last time the Israelis attacked Lebanon they found forces so well dug in that air strikes didn’t defeat them.
Meanwhile, right now there seem to be a lot of Palestinians that want to kick some Israeli hiney right now. Israel still has an edge in fighting what is essentially their prison population. But pulling a lot of troops off the Gaza border and off of west bank patrols doesn’t seem to be a good idea right now.
Israel is arrogant, and has a strong racist belief that they are so superior to the arabs that they will automatically win any fight. But the forces they’ll be fighting this time are far, far different from what they faced in the ’73 war.
nothing about that strike by Israel – ? Maybe the day before but I heard many Syrian soldiers were killed – and no news ?
Hi Ann
There are some reports on the South Front site.
John (lane 51)
https://southfront.org/israel-carries-out-missile-strikes-on-syria-as-government-forces-gain-momentum-in-southern-damascus/
here’s one – surprised its not here too
During the U.S. Strike, Syrian air defenses were portrayed as near perfect. Yet during this Israeli strike against Iranian forces, reports are that air defenses didn’t engage.
Could it be that the Russian made products are not as effective as the seller would like to portray?
Or, has Israel managed to jump a generation ahead of the U.S. In capability?
In previous cruise missile attack Syrians had Russian support of AWACS and other radars and “Electronic Warfare ” systems also.
All that helped lot Syrians to do what they did.
Now this attack was not announced in advance like previous.
So….. there was no Russian help this time….
These results are bad – closer to real Syrian possibilities and capabilities…
Without full Russian non-fly zone over the Lebanon attacks like this will continue….
Or till promised arrival of Russian S-300PMU2 for Syria.
Than Syrians themselves will protect Syria much better and be more effective without Russian help.
All the facts have not been established yet to put together an accurate account ot what really happened. This shows me this is a quality ‘real news’ outlet who don’t just push out junk for ratings or some agenda.
The news is that the Israelis used 4 F15s that used US controlled airspace over Jordan and Iraq to attack from the east which is not well defended. They refueled over Iraq on the return, probably assisted by USAF.
I’d be very surprised if the Israelis didn’t have air-air refueling capabilities. They’ve been at least thinking of a war with Iran ever since the Shah’s torturers were run out of the country. The USAF might have given them a hand, of course. But the Israelis would have been capable of that as well.
Netanyahu’s Charges Against Iran Not New, Dealt With by IAEA – Iranian Minister
https://sputniknews.com/middleeast/201805011064046752-iran-responds-nuclear-netanyahu/
“Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s televised presentation accusing Tehran of violating the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is not a new information and these “rehashed” allegations have already been dealt with by the International Atomic Energy Agency, Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif said on Monday.
“Pres. Trump is jumping on a rehash of old allegations already dealt with by the IAEA to “nix” the deal. How convenient. Coordinated timing of alleged intelligence revelations by the boy who cries wolf just days before May 12. But Trump’s impetuousness to celebrate blew the cover,” Zarif said on Twitter.”
Did netanyahoo use his trusty cartoon “bomb” picture again?
“Federica Mogherini, the head of the European Union’s foreign policy portfolio, said that it appears Netanyahu’s presentation did not demonstrate that Iran was violating the nuclear deal.
‘What I have seen from the first reports is that Prime Minister Netanyahu has not put into question Iran’s compliance with the JCPOA commitments, meaning post-2015 nuclear commitments,’ her office said in a statement.
‘The JCPOA, the nuclear agreement, is not based on assumptions of good faith or trust – it is based on concrete commitments, verification mechanisms and a very strict monitoring of facts, done by the IAEA.
‘The IAEA has published 10 reports, certifying that Iran has fully complied with its commitments.’

Why assault team isn’t wearing helmets ? No funds or ignorance …
I am told that they do not wear helmets because of lebanese machismo.
So it is ignorance. Unbelievable. probably their deaths count could be cut by 1/3 if they wear helmets, a head is hardest to cure.
UK Reporter: Douma Residents Laugh at Notion of ‘Chemical Attack’
https://sputniknews.com/middleeast/201805011064044016-uk-reporter-douma-laught-chemical/
“A British reporter returning from five weeks in Syria told Radio Sputnik on Monday that civilians strolling the streets and people in around Douma literally laughed at her when she asked if there had been chemical attack there just weeks ago.
“I spoke to medical staff and doctors at the medical point that took in victims the night of the alleged chemical attack and all told me they were suffering from dust and smoke inhalation, that there was no chemical attack,” journalist Vanessa Beeley told Fault Lines on Radio Sputnik Monday.
“They were being treated for dust and smoke inhalation before the treatment was broken up by the White Helmets and a number of other actors who basically converted it into a chemical weapon attack,” Beeley, an editor at 21st Century Wire, continued.
The White Helmets, also known as Syrian Civil Defense, has received millions in financing from Washington, London, Doha and many EU member states. While the Syrian Arab Army drove out the armed militants from Eastern Ghouta earlier this month, militants from Jaysh al-Islam, a jihadist group financed by Riyadh, rode on the same buses as White Helmet operatives on the route from Douma to Idlib, the journalist explained.
“Even outside the medical point when I spoke to civilians on the ground — people just walking past, people in the shops, in the market area — actually started laughing when I asked ‘Was there a chemical attack?'” Beeley told Sputnik.”
Unknown to Ms. Beeley, the residents of Douma had been bombarded, by Assad, of course, with laughing gas…
America violates the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic and Consular Relations….
Meanwhile, the American “free press” barely admits the existence of this latest outrage.

Just wondrin if there will be an official word or statement from Russia……
Extract from for once a reasonable article from western press
“The great fear for diplomats around the world is that, if Mr Trump does decide to withdraw from the nuclear deal and reimposes sanctions, Israel will launch unilateral strikes against what it says are Iran’s nuclear facilities. That would almost certainly provoke a devastating military response – not just from Tehran, but also its allies in Syria and Lebanon.
And if that happens, it will take a massive effort of will to stop America and Russia coming to the aid of their allies – at which point the risks of a global conflict will rise sharply. Once again, the tinder box Middle East threatens to drag two of the world’s great powers to the edge of the abyss. ”

US Military Reportedly Sends More Troops to Syria’s Manbij
https://sputniknews.com/middleeast/201805011064058672-us-troop-movement-syria/
“Even as President Donald Trump promised to pull out American troops from Syria, the US military has reportedly dispatched yet another convoy to the country’s northern reaches.
A military convoy has departed from a US military base located in the Syrian city of Kobani and set course to Manbij, the Fars News Agency reports, citing local media sources.
The convoy is reportedly comprised of 10 Humvees, “three trucks carrying short-range missiles” and “two vehicles equipped with advanced radar and communication systems,” and is accompanied by an unspecified number of personnel.
According to Anadolu news agency, the US has already established two bases in the Manbij region and deployed some 300 soldiers in the area.
Earlier in April, US Secretary of Defense James Mattis had declared that the United States would not withdraw its forces from Syria, but would expand operations there and “bring in more regional support.”
US-backed SDF commander assassinated in Raqqa countryside
https://mobile.almasdarnews.com/article/us-backed-sdf-commander-assassinated-in-raqqa-countryside/
“BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:10 P.M.) – One of the highest ranking commanders of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) was assassinated in vehicle, today, by unknown assailants in rural Raqqa.
Ahmad Koubani was reportedly traveling along the Tabqa-Jarniyah Road in rural Raqqa when masked men on motorcycles opened fire on vehicle, killing him instantly.
No group has claimed responsibility for the assassination.
Recently, SDF commanders have been the targets of several assassination attempts in the Raqqa and Hasakah provinces, as tensions with the local Arab tribes continue to grow.”
Yeah, I’m not sure how the brilliant Trump-MBS plan of putting Saudi forces, likely mercenaries, in to replace US forces and run the area is going to go down with the locals.
The Kurds especially aren’t really fond of being ruled by Arabs. This of course shows that Arabs aren’t really fond of being ruled by Kurds. And I’m guessing its not going to be a surpise to the locals that the ISIS killers they just ejected were backed by the same Saudis. Got a feeling its just going to make people mad, not that anyone ever likes a bunch of foreigners coming in to rule over them.
If I was the Russians, I’d be asking the Kurds very quietly if they think that the US leaving and the Sauds coming in might want to make them rethink their refusal of having some autonomy as a part of Syria.
Israeli PM Given Power to Declare War With Only Defense Minister’s Approval
https://sputniknews.com/middleeast/201805011064054875-israel-parliament-knesset-prime-minister-declare-war/
“Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been granted the authority to declare war with only defense minister Avigdor Lieberman’s approval in extreme situations, according to Haaretz newspaper.
The Knesset approved the amendment 62 to 41, transferring the power to launch a war or significant military operations to the Prime Minister without specifying the makeup of the panel that makes the decision.”

A statement from unofficial Syrian Army FB page about the attack in Syria yesterday.
“We had a long post regarding last night and we were asked to put it on hold for the time being. We can however say that almost all the speculations and analysis that are circulating social media are false.
A storage depot was hit by GBU-39B glide bombs not coming from the sea or South/West; the attack is highly suspected to be ground launched but we cannot confirm this.
The type of ammunition targeted was insignificant, grad rockets and several other domestic munition; there was no sophisticated weaponry whatsoever; also, the level of attack was insignificant as well.
What created the huge explosions was the fact that one of the major storage depots caught fire and exploded which resulted in what you saw.
No side publicly claimed responsibility for the attack but that doesn’t mean the Syrian command isn’t aware of the side and the intention. …”

Israeli F-15s Hit Syrian Base Storing Iranian Anti-Aircraft Missiles – Reports
https://sputniknews.com/middleeast/201805011064062495-israel-f15-hit-syria-base/
“Arms depots in the vicinity of the Syrian cities of Hama and Aleppo were attacked in the early hours of Monday with “hostile rockets,” a military source told Sputnik. The Israeli military has declined to comment on the strikes.
Three US officials told NBC News on condition of anonymity that Israeli F-15 jets attacked the military facilities after Iran had moved its anti-aircraft missiles there.
The media earlier reported that Syria’s 47th Brigade base in the Hama district, a military facility in northwestern Hama and a facility north of the Aleppo International Airport were targeted in the strikes.
DETAILS TO FOLLOW”
The Jew-nazis and Catholic-nazis really trying hard to rescue their defeat in Syria.
Catholic? Is the Pope sending his divisions to Syria?
I suppose the part of FUKUS who’s missiles didn’t work is Catholic. The UK part is the Henry VIII version of Catholic that gave him a divorce, otherwise known as the Church of England. The US president is protestant, but Catholics in some parts of the country hold power. JFK is the one official Catholic US President.
Seems to have been an Israeli air strike. See the flight routes here:

That’s the result of giving a green light for Reich aircraft to violate Syrian airspace,Russia and Syria should declare all of Syria a no fly Zone and back it up with action,if they don’t the Anglo/Zionists will continue bombing when they feel like it,they need to feel some pain.
Steady Progress in Southern Damascus & the Rastan Pocket.
“Southern Damascus
The evacuation of wahhabeasts from Yalda and few other neighbourhoods have started and many were already green bused to Idlib since past Sunday, the RGs/SAA/Militias are taking their defensive positions along the border with ISIS eastern frontline, this is a delicate ops to avoid what happened in al Qadam few months ago.
Meanwhile, the RGs and Liwa al Quds have broken thru ISIS defensive lines in Hajar al Aswad, from two key directions, east and west, almost in a straight line near the martyrs cemetery (as shared many times in the past few days where the main attack would take place).
http://wikimapia.org/#lang=en&lat=33.457045&lon=36.305008&z=15&m=b&gz=0;362943863;334580655;0;41531;1716;0;190114;6086;143980;32759
Major breakthrough is expected soon, and all southern Hajar al Aswad can be declared ISIS free. Some allied forces have stated to pressure ISIS from the southern tip as well, stretching ISIS forces very thin, it won;t take longer to hear ISIS main forces are retreating north to Yarmouk.
Rastan Pocket
As the Tiger Forces took position around the pocket, and after few days of pin pointed air attack and shelling, the terrorists inside Rastan asked for a ceasefire so, once more, they could discuss a surrender, they know their time will be up soon (24-48 hrs) so they are rushing into some sort of agreement which most likely will be a mix of green bus wahhabeasts to Idlib with light weapons plus Russian military police to enter the main towns of Talbiseh and Rastan. Worth to mention that the area of of al Houla plains have small villages where the terrorists produced the fake news of a mass Sunni massacre by Shia fighters back in 2011-2012, this is one of the most sensitive areas in all Syria.
Even if the terrorists do not seal the deal now, they will soon after the Tiger Forces advance and control few villages in no time, this pocket will be liberated not in June as expected but as soon as 1-2 weeks” (Canthama)

Israel Up to its Old Dirty Tricks. Unconfirmed.
“An unnamed source in USAF says Crews of 3 F-15Is of Israel Air Force which bombed#IRGC assets such as SAM systems near Hama & Aleppo has probably used deceptive call-signs & IFF codes & etc to be seen as USAF’s F-15Es for deceiving Syria/ Russia SAM operators.”

Interesting. How zionazi of them. Some of the initial reports of these two attacks attributed them to israel’s pindo colonials.

As the President said in remarks with President Emmanuel Macron of France, we will ensure that there is a strong and lasting footprint in Syria such that ISIS cannot return and populations liberated from ISIS are not exploited by the Assad regime or its Iranian supporters.

That is a formal US announcement of the intent to partition Syria.
WW3 can’t be far away.
Speculation has been rife about the actual weapon/s used — ranging from tactical nukes (Al-Masdar) to plain rockets. There were some reports of newer weapons like SDB glide bombs (GBU-39 SDB) being used too.
To my armchair general’s mind it is SDB. My money’s on a test run using SDB, probably launched from F-35 or even F-22. Ground-launched SDB is possible too. They hit a dump, either ammo or fuel.
The thing is, apart from Iran’s usual vows of revenge and US’s disavowal of the attack, everyone is keeping quiet about about it. No further elaboration from official sources.
This raises some interesting questions. Like it or not, Syria is a test bed for new weapons for both RF, who are quite open about it, and the Israeli-led US/Nato Axis. Did RF ships/radar at sea and/or the Russo-Syrian IADS spot the attacking planes? If they did, did they purposely let them go and if so, why? This may sound like cynical speculation and it may be a bit of a stretch but remember Churchill, Enigma and Leicester? It’s possible they let the attack through — with the concomitant risks to morale, lives and materiel — especially if it was F-35/F-22 they saw, tucked in between F-15’s, in order to learn something. There are bigger battles to fight in the (hopefully far off) future. But who knows?
Expect more thrusts and parries in this duel.
basil
It can’t be the US, because Trump didn’t twit about it. He’s even nice enough to warn enemies in advance of an attack.
Israel has a long history of not saying anything when they bomb in Syria.
In the big picture, they didn’t lose much. The seismographs registered a handful of tons of TNT going up. A few lives lost. I’m the sort that believes that all life is sacred. But, that also means I’ve never held power. I’m am sorry to hear of those lives that were lost, but I can picture those types who are used to fighting for and holding power thinking that only a few lives don’t matter in the big picture.
And if you can be effective against the F-35, that’s a nice trump card to slide up you’re sleeve until it really counts.
I’m hearing lots of different things, which means nobody really knows. One thing I did hear that made some sort of sense is that they might have attacked from the east, through Iraqi airspace. That would mean is they are trying stay away from the Russian radars along the coast.
Stealth does not make a plane invisible. What it does do is shorten the distance at which the plane can be detected from the radar. It would be interesting it the Israelis are thinking ‘hey, we flew a plane a 100 miles away from the radar and didn’t get detected’, while there are Russian officers looking at a screen saying ‘hey look, one of their new F-35’s is actually flying and we are tracking the whole trip without any problem.’
Draining the Rastan Swamp – Check.
“Rastan pocket is no more, the terrorists in southern Hama and northern Homs have surrendered for good, that was the strength of the Tiger Forces approach. The evacuation will start immediately, all wahhabeasts will leave to Idlib, green buses are already lining up. By the end of this week the pocket will be terrorists free.
This is absolutely great news, the M5 will be reconnected from Hama all the way to Daraa for the first time in 7 years, plus the railroad will be able to be fixed and link Aleppo to Daraa, extremely important events to reconnect the country all together. As it happened in other deals, some wahhabeast factions may try to jeopardize the deal, these more radical factions have until tomorrow to accept, if not all hell will break loose tomorrow, but this time, many local terrorists will most likely help the SAA to kill them all, either by tipping or forcing them out.
Not a single bullet was fired by the Tiger Forces, just their presence in the vicinity of it was enough.
Southern Damascus
Souther Damascus pocket is also going thru some serious changes, as wahhabeasts are shipped to Idlib, the SAA forces are taking over their position and starting new front lines immediately, stretching ISIS very thin, as a results, ISIS front lines continue to collapse in Hajar al Aswad neighbourhood, ISIS seeing retreating from the most southern tip of the neighbourhood afraid of being cut off, 700 mts is left to cut off the whole area, the SAA forces and allies have approached the Martyrs Cemetery from the east and the RGs are now inside the neighbourhood and have advanced several blocks inwards in the direction of the Cemetery (see map below).
http://wikimapia.org/#lang=en&lat=33.461735&lon=36.312733&z=15&m=b&gz=0;363000941;334591754;0;11815;858;0;83041;8413;82612;16648
The real question now is where the Tiger Forces will heading next, once we know it, that will be next big offensive for Syria.” (Canthama)
which ever way one looks at this, from the point of syria’s sake, the glass is half empty or half full.
This ancient land and it’s peeps ,have withstood a horrendous six years of brutal rape ,by ‘democratic ‘and ‘peace loving’ moderate forces, compliment of NATO&US and with full cooperation of gcc and the only ‘democratic’ political entity ‘chosen by the holy book’ .
Thankfully With the help of ‘evil’ putin , the ‘animal’ assad might just be looking forward to, build SYRIA as a shining light and hope for the rest of humanity….we live in interesting time..evil putin might just knock heads together and bring lasting peace to MENA,…top up time for popcorns.
One of the things I find useful about Southfront is their maps. Since I know nothing of the area, a list of names in an article means nothing to me. But, Southfront can help with that.

M5 Highway Between Hama and Homs Safe for the First Time in 7 Years.
“M5 highway between the cities of Homs and Hama reported safe for the first time in 7 years. Rastan pocket is no more, some terrorists are still trying to play hardball but their fellow terrorists that accepted the deal are also hunting them down.
Early reports that the Tiger Forces are already moving north to liberate the remaining M5 all the way to Aleppo. Should this be confirmed in the weeks to come, it seem Idlib Province will be liberated this summer.” (Canthama)
Sothern Damascus Pocket Split in Two.
“… the large pocket is no more, split in two on the Martyrs Cemetery line connecting to al Qadam, some ISIS left inside Hajar al Aswad.
The decision to end ISIS in southern Damascus was made by Syria, Iraq, Iran and Russia. A clear message for all the countries supporting terrorism around the world, the Resistance will eliminate their toys.
Hajar al Aswad pocket will be ISIS free in no time, the tougher battle is now centered in the Yarmouk camp, but the SAA and allies have now the control of all the front line, meaning the pressure will be unbearable on ISIS, this pocket will cease to exist by next week, Damascus will be rat free.” (Canthama)
