On Saturday, May 14, in Stockholm’s Globe Arena an event called the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest final will take place.
According to the Eurovision Official Rules 2016 posted on eurovision.tv:
1.2) Criteria of eligibility
1.2.1) Songs
“The lyrics and/or performance of the songs shall not bring the Shows, the ESC as such or the EBU into disrepute. No lyrics, speeches, gestures of a political or similar nature shall be permitted during the ESC. No swearing or other unacceptable language shall be allowed in the lyrics or in the performances of the songs. No messages promoting any organization, institution, political cause or other, company, brand, products or services shall be allowed in the Shows and within any official ESC premises (i.e. at the venue, the Eurovision village, the Press Centre, etc.). A breach of this rule may result in disqualification.”
However, rules are made to be broken
On May 9, 2016, a tweet from the European Broadcasting Union confirmed “that neither the title nor the lyrics of the song contained “political speech” and therefore it didn’t breach any Eurovision rule, therefore allowing it to participate in the competition.[16] [wikipedia entry]
Why would the European Broadcasting Union feel propelled to make this statement on the Victory Day celebration in Russia?
That’s because Europeans love to defecate on our life, our history and our modest national holidays.
Thus, we have got a singing competition which doesn’t want to be politicized, and wisely so. But… since the EU members are in Cold War with Russia and NATO is building up an enormous quantity of troops and weaponry all along Russia’s borders, to make a singing competition into an sick anti-Russia spectacle is a given.
Enters Ukraine. Ukraine is a Western territory of Russia, temporally occupied by the West. It’s a colony of the US with a multiethnic society where Russians are the majority, but the US wants to grind into a monoethnic society with a pure, “Ukrainian” identity. Everyone who doesn’t want to speak the Ukrainian language is being burned alive, like in the Odessa Massacre, or shot, or bombed by NATO. Everyone in Ukraine is supposed to become “Ukrainian” which means “anti-Russian” and a follower of the Bandera ultra-nationalist ideology.
Everyone, that is, for the notable exception of so-called ‘Crimean Tatars” who are allowed by the US and EU to use their own language, their own national identity, their own religious extremist organizations like Hizb ut-Tahrir, Tablighi Jamaat and other terrorist organization, that are legal in Ukraine, but considered terror organizations in Russia.
As you’ve probably figured out by now, “Crimean Tatars” are not ethnic Tatars, they are Turks. Turkey is a NATO member and an ally of the EU and US, as you have probably heard.
About 120,000 “Crimean Tatars” live in Crimea. After the liberation of Crimea from Ukrainian occupation, about 8,000 ended up living in Ukraine. The rest of them don’t want to move to Ukraine and prefer to stay in Russia. If they are so upset about 1944 why wouldn’t they move to Turkey to enjoy the true freedom and democracy that the Associated membership with the EU brings?
This year, in Eurovision singing competition Ukraine is being represented by a singer called Jamala with a song “1944” according to eurovisionworld.com.
I listened to this song, and found it being depressingly monotonous.
Here is the lyrics: “When they come… strangers. Come into your home. They kill all of you and say. “We are not guilty…not guilty.” Where is your mind? Humanity is crying. You think you are gods. But all die. Do not swallow my soul. Our souls. The youth is not enjoyed in peace and not live. We could build a future. Where people are free to live and love. Happy times… Where are your hearts? Humanity prospers. You think you are gods. But people are dying. Do not swallow my soul. Our souls.”
However, I must admit, I am no music critic and all ISIS-style songs sound to me the same.
Europeans, however, love it. This is how this political provocation by Susana Jamaladinova a.k.a. Jamala was announced by their media:
“When strangers are coming, they come to your house, they kill you all and say ‘We’re not guilty’,” the song begins. “That terrible year changed forever the life of one fragile woman, my great-grandmother Nazylkhan. Her life was never the same,” Jamaladinova, who was born in Kyrgyzstan, said before the broadcast.
Ukrainians have chosen a Crimean Tatar singer and her song 1944, about the mass deportation of Tatars under Joseph Stalin, to represent the nation
- According to liveleaks, Ukraine’s Tatar protest song Eurovision choice likely to irk Russia
Because, apparently this is a song about the mass deportation of Turks from Crimea after Crimea was liberated from the German occupation in 1944.
I want you to remember the phrase: “That terrible year changed forever the life of one fragile woman, my great-grandmother Nazylkhan. Her life was never the same.“ She is talking about 1944. It’s very significant that she says this. You will understand later why.
On May 9th 1944, after the final battle to liberate Sevastopol from the German occupation, after all the remaining German troops were cleared from Crimea, a decision was made by the Soviet Government to deport the majority of Turks from Crimea to the Soviet Republic of Uzbekistan. The Turks weren’t deported from Crimea to Siberia. Au contraire… Uzbekistan has a warm climate and was never devastated by the war.
I don’t know exactly the circumstances around the decision to remove Turks from Crimea after the liberation. I don’t know who made this decision inside the Soviet government and who signed it. Essentially this decision has saved the Crimean Turks from the fury and rage of the Soviet Russian army liberating Crimea. Because when the Russians came back, they found that the ENTIRE Russian population of Crimea was slaughtered by Turks under the supervision of Germans.
Just to remind you how people lived in Crimea before the war, a documentary called One Day in Artek made by students in 1939, also links to sources of historical photographs of pre-war Crimea.
Here are the historical facts:
Crimea was attacked by Germans on the first day of the Great Patriotic war June 22nd, 1941.
In July 1942, Sevastopol fell to the Germans. From October 1941 to July 1942, 156,000 Red Army soldiers were killed defending the city.
Even before the defenders of Sevastopol were defeated, about 100,000 Turks in Crimea greeted Germans occupiers as “liberators.”
“We are honored to have the opportunity to fight under the leadership of the führer Adolf Hitler – the greatest son of the German people… Our names later will be honored along with names of those who advocated the liberation of oppressed peoples.” This is from a speech of the Chairman of the Tatar Committee Jaljala Abdurashidova at a ceremony on 3 January 1942 in Simferopol.
The Wikipedia entry about the singer Jamala there is an interesting twist. It states that Jamala’s grandfather was fighting for the Red Army, and couldn’t “protect” his family from deportation. The facts are that in 1941 as the war had started total 90,000 people were drafted to the Red Army from Crimea. 20,000 of them were Turks. During the first months of war and German attacks on Crimea, 20,000 Turks deserted the 51st Army as it was retreating from Crimea. As we see, almost every Crimean Turk drafted to the Red Army had deserted it. It’s been confirmed on village by village statistic. For example: from 132 men drafted from the village Koysh, 120 deserted the Army. Everyone who deserted the Red Army went to serve German occupants.
“From the very first days of arrival, Germans used the support of Tatar-nationalists. Trying to gain support among Tatars, Germans didn’t loot Tatar home, like they did to Russian people.” Wrote the Commander of the 5th Partisan region Krasnikov.
According to eloquent testimonies of German field Marshal Erich von Manstein: “...the majority of the Tatar population of the Crimea was set up very friendly to us. We even managed to form a Tatars armed battalions of self-defense, whose task was to protect their villages from attacks of Partisans who were hiding in the Yayla mountains.”
According to Washington based International Committee for Crimea: “The German military authorities in the Crimea began creating self defense battalions from Crimean Tatar POWs in January 1942. General Manstein viewed the Crimean Tatars as being more sympathetic to the German occupation than the Slavic population of the peninsula. These POWs volunteered for service in the self defense battalions in exchange for release from the camps and better rations. The Germans formed six battalions and 14 companies of Crimean Tatars with 1,632 men by 15 February 1942.[13] In total, close to 20,000 Crimean Tatars served in German organized self-defense battalions during WWII.[14]”
What Washington is omitting that collaborating with German Turks actively participated in the genocide of Russians in occupied Crimea.
From archive of NKVD so called “Special Files. message #465/B” “Jankoy district, a group of three Tatars was arrested who by the German order executed in gas chambers 200 Gypsies.” “In Sudak, 19 Tatar-executioners were arrested. they violently executed Red Army servicemen captured by Germans. From those arrested, Osman Setarov personally shot 37 soldiers. Osman Abdureshidov shot 38 soldiers of the Red Army.”
Many Crimean Turks left the peninsula along with German troops. For example, the Polit-Commender of the 2nd Belaruskiy Front reported that they had 49th Army armed encounter with so called “Tatar-Volga legion” organized by the Berlin based “Tatar Committee” headed by Shafi Almas. “Tatar-Volga legion” consisted of three battalions and over three thousand people. All of them Turks under the command of the German Colonel Sikondorf. This is according to the Archives of the Institute of Russian History of Russia’s Academy of Science. F.2. Special File. January 27th, 1944 report of the Deputy Commander of the Main Political Command of the Red Army Shikin.
However, these sort of direct battles with the regular Red Army regiments were unusual for Turks. They much preferred to deal with the civilian population and POWs, the way they have dealt in Turkey with the non-Turkish population. SS Crimean-Tatar Battalion burned alive 15,000 Russians, Ukrainians, Greeks and Armenias, the entire population of village Mirnoe (Peaceful)
During the occupation of Crimea, Germans and Romanians organized 116 death camps staffed with Crimean Turks. They were organized by Schuma organization into 152 battalion. For the exception of 6 military officers, all 320 servicemen in this battalion were Crimean “Tatar” Turks. For example death camp “Red” also known as Crimean Buchenvald. In this death camp people were executed, without a chance to get out.
In two years of German, Romanian and Turkish occupation of Crimes, over 90,000 civilians were murdered and over 85,000 were trafficked to Germany for forced labor Only about 2% of those people survived and returned.
In nearby so called “internment” camp, out of 140,000 people interned, 40,000 were murdered and 100,000 were trafficked to Germany for forced labor. Turks working in the death camp “Red” were “creative” in the ways they murdered people. They drowned mothers with children in cesspools. They mass burned people alive by tying them up with barbwire, pouring gasoline on them and setting them on fire. Just compare, for 7 years in Buchenvald 56,000 people were killed. 8,000 per year. In death camp “Red” in less than 2 years Germans, Romanians and Turks murdered 15,000 people. The prevailing notion that the majority people killed in these particular death camps were Jews, is wrong. The majority of people killed there were Russians.
According to the article “Death Camp “Red” – Crimean Buchenvald” Ukrainian occupation authorities for decades and during the Soviet time and during the “independence” were refusing to recognize the place as a memorial to 15,000 Russian, Ukrainian, Armenian and Greek people perished in this camp. The memorial has been build in 2015 after the liberation of Crimea from the Ukrainian occupation.

In 1942, near the resort town Sudak, Tatars captured and murdered a group of reconnaissance troops of the Red Army who came to them seeking support of the locals. While another group of “self-defenders” captured and burnt alive 12 Soviet paratroopers. On February 4th, 1943 Crimean Tatar volunteers from the villages of Beshoy and Komush seized four partisans from the group of S. A. Mukovnina. Partisans L. S. Chernov, F. V. Gordienko, K. G. Sannikov, and H. K. Kiyamov were brutally murdered: stabbed repeatedly with bayonets, stacked on pyres and burned. Especially disfigured was the corpse of Kazan Tatar H. K. Kiyamova. Apparently, Crimean Turks mistook him as their tribesman. Genetically, Kazan Tatars don’t relate to Crimean Turks, despite of the similar name.
Equally cruelly Crimean Tatar were murdering the non-Tatar civilian population.
As noted in a special report of L. P. Beria in the names of I. V. Stalin, V. M. Molotov and G. M. Malenkov No. 366/b, dated 25 April 1944: “locals claim that they suffered more prosecution from the Tatars, than from Romanian invaders”. It got to the point that escaping their violence, the Russian-speaking population asked for help from the German authorities and received their protection! for example, Alexander Chudakov (a local witness, not a known Soviet author) testifies: “My 1943 my grandmother was nearly shot by Crimean Tatar executioners in front of my mother — at that time a seven year old girl just because she had the misfortune to be a Ukrainian, and her husband — my grandfather — had worked before the war as a Chairman of the village Council and in that time fought in the ranks of the Red Army. My grandmother was saved from bullets, by the way… the Germans, who were amused by the degree of brutality of their lackeys. It all happened a few kilometers from the Crimea, in the village of Novodmitrovka in Kherson region of Ukraine”.
According to recently declassified data from the Special files of the State defense Committee (May 1, No. 387/B) during the German occupation of Crimea they organized the Muslim committees, which “on instructions of the German intelligence agencies conducted the recruitment of Tatar youth in the volunteer corps to fight Partisans and the Red Army, required suitable personnel to insert them into the Red Army, and were spreading pro-fascist propagation among the Tatar population of Crimea.” Germans had also created a “Tatar National Committee,” which was headed by Turkish-citizen immigrant Abdurashid Cemil. The Committee had branches in all regions with Tatar population actively collaborated with the Germans. In 1943, Feodosia was visited by Turkish emissary Amil Pasha, who called on the Tatar population to support the activities of the German authorities.
Among specific causes of Turks in Crimea was a fundraiser to help the German army “after the defeat of the German 6th army of Paulus at Stalingrad.” So Feodosia Muslim Committee gathered “one million rubles” donated by Tatars.
From the report of Beria to the State Committee of defense No. 366/B, dated 25 April 1944 (from the same Special files): “activities of the “Tatar national Committee” was supported by broad segments of the Tatar population, which the German occupational authorities gave all kinds of support: not one Crimean Tatar was trafficked to Germany for forced labor, (excluding the 5,000 people who voluntarily went to Germany), they paid lower taxes than the occupied population, etc. Not one Tatar settlement was destroyed by Germans.”
It was clear that Germans were using ethnic Turks as executors of the Slavic population of Crimea.
It’s not hard to notice that when Crimea was liberated and before Russians started returning there, significant resources were brought to evacuate Crimean Tatars from the peninsula. As we see from the reports and Classified files, the soviet government knew exactly what was taking place there during the occupation. It was generally assumed that Russian Crimeans coming back from fighting war and finding their homes destroyed and their families, children, wives, parents and grandparents, murdered in the most horrendous ways, would want to take revenge on the murderers, the Crimean Tatars. That’s why even today after 72 years, the majority of Russians believe that Crimean Tatars were saved by the Soviet Government by evacuating them from the region they committed horrible atrocities, to Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, where people didn’t know what took place in Crimea.
Now, remember a phrase of Jamaladinova, “That terrible year changed forever the life of one fragile woman, my great-grandmother Nazylkhan.” She is talking about 1944. Not the 1941, when Germans, Romanians, Turks, Finns, Estonians, Lithuanians, Latvians, Italians, Japanese, and many others had attacked and invaded Soviet Russia and Crimea. She is not talking about 1942-1943, the years of occupation, when entire populations of Russians, Armenians, Greeks, and Gypsies, and Jews were annihilated. No, of course not. Those were the good years for Crimean Tatars. They were murdering people, and they were taking those people’s belongings. Afterwards, instead of locking them all up in jails for war crimes, mean Stalin evacuated them to warm plentiful lands of Uzbeks and Kazakhs. And what about those railroad wagons? Have you ever seen what wagons were used to transport troops across the country? The Soviet Union devastated by the war with Europe, didn’t have any other wagons. It was one type of wagons for everything.
Turks evacuated from Crimea were given opportunity to attend schools and universities, to build houses. They were living amongst the locals just like everyone else did. They were provided with free arable lands they used to grow fruits and vegetables and to sell it in Russia. There income was higher than average income in Soviet Russia. For the exemption of very few, none of them was convicted and jailed for war crimes and genocide. During the post-war years the population of Crimean Tatars or Crimean Turks grew from about 100,000 to 500,000. It’s grew 5X times! As we know the Russian population severely declined during those years, especially during the liberal terror, that didn’t take place in “independent Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
I would like to ask the organizations of Eurovision and the leaders of European nations, what gives them moral superiority to troll the memory of the Soviet Government and the Russians who survived the most horrific war in history of mankind, that you conducted against us?
I have no doubt that the same people of Europe who are now voting for this political provocation masquerading as a “song,” the same people, and we will see all their faces on our TVs would be burning us, our children and our parents alive, if it wasn’t for Russia’s army and Russia’s fleet.
Time after time, the Europeans are throwing their dung at us Russians, and we got your message, Europe. We got your message back in 1941, and we are getting it now. You can keep your dung… I mean Eurovision.
Just like the demands of the European politicians to let out of jail Natalya Savchenco who killed two Russian journalists reporting from Donbass. Just like refusal of Turkey government to punish people who down the Russian fighter jet fighting ISIS in Syria. Just like refusal of Kiev junta to punish those terrorists who murdered 400 people in Odessa on May 2, 2014, and over hundred Police officers in Mariupol. The western society openly demonstrate that their crimes against us Russians won’t be punished, but rewarded.
It means that it’s up to us to punish perpetrators.
To all those saying that Germany and Russia are natural allies...
The Eurovision 2016 is shaping up to become a true statement of glorification of Nazism and its excuses to condone the genocide of Russians in World War II, which turned out to be the pinnacle of European civilization.
For those of you who feel propensity to burn people alive, enjoy, while you can….
P.S. Researching for this article, I came across a comment that strikes me as very true. Someone wrote that in Russia we all have become victims of the Western Cold war against us. We endured economic losses and hardships, caused by sanctions. Our inner peace and sense of security have also been taken away. The only good thing is that our children are growing up hating the Western democracy and everything its represent: hatred, perpetual wars, misery for so many nations and death of so many innocent.
Thank you for your time.
Some of those Turks continued to collaborate with the nazis(hired by the US empire) after WW2.

I consider it pure lunacy for Russia to even participate in Eurovision after the last few years of open Russophobia from them. Nor should it be permitted to be shown in Russia. Or any Russian businesses be permitted any involvement with it. But “if” Russia did want to participate in it. The song they submit should be one about the horrors of Donbass. And if Eurovision rejects it,perform the song anyway. The singers on stage just perform the song anyway (of course keep that secret until the moment). If the Eurovision people don’t like that, then give them a similar message to the one Nuland gave the EU,”F..K Eurovision”
I agree Uncle Bob. They must know that with the total lack of any objective assessment, the highly politicised nature of the event, plus the excessive Russophobia current that they have not only no chance of winning, but a high probability of being insulted and humiliated in some way.
I know, were I in a such a position, not all the tea in china could tempt me to go.
Why do they think CBC made a program which aired with some malcontent claiming drugs had been used at the Sochi Olympics by Russians, and now the entire Russian team, most especially 4 gold medal winners, are “Under suspicion and being investigated” by the international drugs board. Based on nothing more than unsubstantiated “claims”. ?
If those SOB’s can wreck the memory and glory of Sochi, by any means, they will. What makes anyone think they wont be as bad at the Eurovision Song thingy. [Horrible, tasteless, talentless thing that it is].
Agree 100% ! Russia participating in a depraved, homosexuality, bestiality, incest, paedophilia supporting event ??
Vladimir put your foot down ! & tell the Eurovision organizers that they can sodomise themselves !
DJ Rha is from Donbass. His song would have been spot on: https://search.yahoo.com/search?ei=utf-8&fr=aaplw&p=youtube+dj++rha+i+was+wrong

No sounds correct again …
It is a mystery to me, the seemingly unending propensity of Russia people for forgiveness. The atrocities committed against them by Europeans have been going on for centuries. Yet still, they say they are “European”; they call Ukrainians “our brothers”. They accept refugees by the million, literally, of Ukrainians. Why?
When are they going to learn, that turning the other cheek only gets you two black eyes?.
That your murderer isn’t your brother?
That they aren’t, and never will be “Russians”.
It’s time to build a wall of some sort, and push them to one side – as far away as possible.
Comrade Scott,
spelling error fix: not “no […]” but of course “now correct again” (poor Celeron computer very sluggish and crashed shortly after having typed that due to bugs in my driver under development).
I wanted to praise and thank you for this masterpiece report about such unbelievably tragic events.
You see from your own article that there is neither any reason to celebrate a victory, nor anything worth the name of “Yalta-2” on the table.
It is unbelievable with which shamelessness the biggest war criminals of WW2 are now pointing the finger at their new old victim. This game is called “Hold the thief!”
It is so full of untruth, evilness, hypocrisy – no word can match the level of that sh*
As said: Forget Yalta-2, and – where is there a reason to celebrate the victory over something which is now stronger than 70 years ago and once again threatens Russia’s very existence …..??
Thank you for reporting about things, which are almost non-readable (because of being toxic).
I wonder how you can take the hassle to dive into such topics every day.
Thanks, Martin.
Big wheels turn slowly. There is “Yalta -2” agreement.
Certain extremely evil forces are putting up a fight, but we’re not alone. There is someone who is on our side. This someone is not necessarily nice or kind, but very strong and powerful.
Soon we will see the end of this war.
Hi, Isabella
I always enjoy reading your comments here, and if I am not mistaken, on the Russia Insider.
You wrote: “It is a mystery to me, the seemingly unending propensity of Russia people for forgiveness.”
It’s a mystery for me, also.
Even now, I read comments about integrating Ukrainians back into Russian society. People say, “it’s OK that they follow Bandera, we will explain them that they have been brainwashed.”
We Russians are just don’t like killing people. We are horrified even thinking about taking someone else life. That’s it.
Regards
Thankyou Scott. Yes, I post a little still at Russia Insider – but nothing as much as I once did.
That propensity for forgiveness is woven through so many Russians I think – and you seem to be saying that it’s linked to their immense humanity – the revulsion from killing.
That makes sense.
Thanks.
[Mind you, I still think you can refuse to turn the other cheek against real evil and just turn your back. No need to kill. Just decide that until a people can learn a little decency – you dont wnat a single thing to do with them].
We are turning from a dark age into the light again, if the Hindu “yuga’s” are true.
Maybe the forgiving nature of Russia will be the light that leads the way!
I hope so.
In Ukraine before WW2 there were many thousands of Armenians in southern Ukraine. After the war they were not there. About three years ago I found out about an Armenian priest in Poland that has documented that the Armenians of Ukraine were slaughtered during WW2 by the pro-Nazi Ukrainian partisans along with Russians, Roma, Jews, and anyone else they didn’t consider to be ‘Ukrainian’.
Scott also adds fuel to my hatred of western agitprop that twists everything to the agenda of western elites. I grew up indoctrinated in my early years by disinformation in the west but finally saw through it and burned it out. I agree in ‘hating the Western democracy and everything its represent: hatred, perpetual wars, misery for so many nations and death of so many innocent.’
@ Scott
Your expose’ is a description of unimaginable evil! Are humans redeemable? Can such savagery be forgiven? And the criminals were given safe passage to warm Uzbekistan instead of taken alive to a mass grave? Stalin must have gone soft…
The perpetrators of the genocide were those who “served” in the Nazi forces, and dealt with by Stalin and the Western allies in Operation Keelhaul, which swept up almost all of the collaborators, and unfortunately also many innocent victims. It seemed that Stalin was happy to exact vengeance on those who directly participated in anti-Soviet actions, such as “Vlasov’s Army”, but in this case protected the civilian women and children who were left behind by evacuating them, even if their husbands and fathers were among the “guilty”.
Growing up in the west, I was much taken in by western propaganda, though I did have an appreciation for the high degree of suffering of the Soviet people. Only later in life did I appreciate that the crimes of the “Western Allies” (Britain, France, US, etc.) equaled, and often exceeded the crimes of the “totalitarian” nations (Germany, Soviet Union, Japan), such as the Atomic bombings, US and British participation in “Operation Keelhaul”, etc.
After all, the bankers profited from all sides of the war, even getting profits from arming the Soviets through Lend-Lease as well as sales of arms to Britain, France, Germany, US, Japan, and all of the other combatants.
Found an interesting picture while reading online.

Thank you. Precious image.
It will go the way of Pussy Riot fame, journalist falling over themselves as if that person is holy or something.
Sadly the public will take the bait hook line and sinker.
When I asked around me if anybody knew what Pussy Riot had done and where condemned for nobody knew, just that Russia was out of line for doing so.
The West maybe still called that but it hardly exists. Culture needs a degree of education and that is lost for decades with the desired effects in favor to the ruling depraved.
Todays people are not interested in history or much else, they are symbiotic with their smartphones and tomorrow with virtual reality.
All is good except reality.
Excellent article. It was painful to read the history.
Can Russia really trust those Tatars that are in Crimea?
What horrors they committed during the war. why I wonder did so many of them choose to stay?
Eurovision is run by zio-gays. To inderstand their corruption, one need only realize that. It’s that simple. All the rest will fall right into place.
Sometimes I feel like a clueless fellow !
And, that happens whenever I come across write-ups and comments about how the Russians love the European culture, but due to conspiracy or whatever of European (and other) elites, Russians could not consummate that ….
How many times and in how many ways the ‘West’ will have to convey the message to the ‘Russians’ that they don’t need Russia (they only need resources) ?
I think, Russia behaves more mysteriously compared to the ‘West’ – or, is it that I’m still clueless ?
Hi Straight-Bat,
tnx for your 9.5. congrats btw.
As for your question here I must agree with you: For some irrational reason Russians are way too mild towards their enemies and slaughterers.
On the Kremlin level and on the street or in trains.
I think it is wrong and it makes me angry whenever I have to see it.
Having a great heart is one thing, but their love and understanding for the West including Poland and Germany simply goes too far.
Ukraine is a different story because Ukrainians _are_ (spoiled) Russians who were brainwashed until they forgot their own name, identidy and heritage. Forgive the sick …, they don’t know what they are doing …..
Martin from S.E.B.,
Thanks. I have always known you (at this website) as a great humanist who relentlessly struggle to establish a beautiful world (for me, peoples who are Marxist, are most prone to ideology that drives truth-justice-equality across the world – those gestures are the most humanitarian of all parameters). Hope you will settle down in new Russia and continue with your struggle for spreading the resistance to Hegemon.
” Having a great heart is one thing, but their love and understanding for the West including Poland and Germany simply goes too far. ” >>
You have literally snatched my words – I can’t agree with you any more … Don’t know why Russians should not show contempt towards such vulgarity and nonsense in the name of ‘culture’.
” Ukraine is a different story because Ukrainians _are_ (spoiled) Russians who were brainwashed until they forgot their own name, identity and heritage. ” >>
Zombification of Ukrainians is a long process. My take on this is except the one-third part in west and central-west (of current Ukrainian map), other two-third part in south, east, central-south will finally understand that they are ‘Rus’ …. may be 3 – 5 years from now. So, the west and central-west part (extended Galicia) will remain a Nazi country …
Thanks Straight-Bat, glad to hear this. Well – here more pictures about the wonderful time (alltime-best for this planet):

For me the Eurovision Song Contest has ceased to exist a couple of years ago when the Austrian Conchita Wurst (Sausage) He/She appeared and won. That was a signal.
Your article Scott, is very competent, deep and sad. I can feel your emotion when you put all these information together.
For me Eurovision stopped to be a contest when my country’s representatives got zero points for several editions in a row (each time forced to skip the next edition). I understand that it is difficult to win, but getting no point from anywhere for good contributions was more than telling.
Conclusion: forget it – waste of time.
What a mess. The sad truth however is that Crimean Peninsula is still and illegally temporarily occupied by armed forces of Russian Federation. This is what the international sanctions against Putin’s regime are trying to change, and the sooner it happens the better.
I’m not sure if you are just trolling us,or if you seriously believe that. I doubt if you were a regular follower of this blog you could believe that way. So I suspect you are just a Ukrainian “junta” supporter that wants to cause trouble here. Any serious person knows that the vast majority of Crimeans are Russian. And that all ethnic groups in Crimea voted overwhelmingly to reunite with Russia. They want no part of the new “Bandera Ukraine”.
@ Scott
I would like to share a feeling here and pose a question, not to insult anyone, just to see the picture clearly. Feeling that i had for a long time which flared with new life reading this article and these words in particular.
” For the exemption of very few, none of them was convicted and jailed for war crimes and genocide”
If i understand correctly, there was some sort of amnesty for their crimes. Was there an amnesty in similar measure to others ethnic groups and Russians in particular for those same and similar crimes?
My feeling, excuse my use of this word for i have no better on account of not researching the subject but surfacing again and again, is this:
Russians during Soviet times had more obligations and were under tighter scrutiny than other groups. Rights were equal for all citizens regardless of their status of majority or minority. If a Russian were even suspected of collaboration with the enemy his fate is sealed and here we see that majority of Crimean Tatars directly involved in crimes were excluded from that fate- given second chance. Add to that, correct me if i am wrong, that many important positions were given by the Key. Key being that certain number of important positions had to be held by non Russians.
Please, spare the time to answer this “feeling” of mine.
That is an interesting and complicated question. It doesn’t have only one answer. There were people punished as individuals for collaboration with the enemy. And there were ethnic groups that were punished by relocation in mass after the war. Most of the Slavic and Baltic peoples punished, fell under the first category. Since even with the Bandera Ukrainians the collaboration was never huge and covering the whole people. While with some of the other smaller groups the level of collaboration was thought to be in the majority of those groups. And they were relocated into Central Asia.
In the years after the war at several different times, amnesties were given to different groups that had been considered traitors during the war. Many people also were “rehabilitated”. Which was an almost unique Soviet method. Where people imprisoned, and many already executed, had their records cleared, and those living released. Most of the ethnic groups punished at the end of the war for collaboration with the enemy. Were then allowed to return to their old homes. Hence the Chechens, etc, etc, returned home. And Crimean Tatars also were allowed to return to Crimea again. The only large group (that I can remember) that wasn’t allowed to return as a mass to their old homes. Were the so-called Volga Germans. While being cleared of the charges of mass collaboration, they weren’t allowed an autonomous Republic as they had before. And most remained where they had been relocated to. Over the years a lot of their descendants (for economic reasons in the 1990’s) immigrated to Germany. The rest mostly becoming assimilated into Russian society.
@Comrade Scott:
“From archive of NKVD so called “Special Files. message #465/B” “Jankoy district, a group of three Tatars was arrested who by the German order executed in gas chambers 200 Gypsies.” “
Could this possibly be the same NKVD that murdered 22,000 Polish officers and pinned it on the Germans for over 50 years too? This lie being one of the big reasons Germans were handled so brutally be the Russians after the war and are still being smeared to today?
I would also like to see some proof of gas chambers, these kinds of claims automatically raises alarm bells.
And how can you jump right into Crimea in 1941 and not consider what the Bolshevic Jews had done to Ukrainians and Tatars in the 20’s and 30’s? Give me a break. Of course they wanted revenge, and they acted like a bunch of Russians when the Germans freed them.
One of the reasons Patton was murdered in ’45 was because he was going to spill the beans about how American POW’s held by the Germans were taken back to Russia by the murdering soviets army never to be seen again. Many Americans would have wanted the USSR nuked if they and known.
But the real point here is that Comrade Scott needs to deal with this massive WWII “the Soviets were Victims” Chip he carries around on his shoulder.
The truth is that the only people who suffered more than the Germans at the hands of the Russian Army under the control of the bolshevic jews were the Russians themselves!
Now this same tribe of jews wants to start another war of white genocide between Russians and Germans. Here we stand at the brink, and all the Comrades here can do is cluck about true all those old soviet lies and propaganda still is, and how horrible Germans still are. Pathetic.

Your comment can be perfectly described by quoting Mikhail Bulgakov’s “Master and Margarita”:
“What’s remarkable about this lie is that it’s a bogus in its entirety; a lie from the first to the last word.”
It takes an enormous amount of time for me to research and verify sources for my articles. You, on the other hand, are acting like a bird. You show up here anonymously, you shit all over my intellectual property, and fly away, leaving me, a human, to clean after you.
I can see this is your first comment on our blog.
Here are some ground rules for you personally.
1. Do not call me “comrade.” I am not your friend. I am not your relative. I am not your partner. I am not your husband. I am not your bride. I am not a “comrade” to Russia-haters, think-tankers and war profiteers.
2. You are at the wrong place. This community is pro-Russia. You should go and take your Russophobic ignorant rants to stormfront and cenzor net forums.
Well at least you replied.
So do you refute the Katyn forest massacre? If not, what does this say about the credibility of what the NKVD said about Wermacht or even SS war crimes?
Besides, you are not nearly as pro-Russian as you are pro-Soviet.
BTW: There are loads of books discussing the NKVD/OSS operation to assassinate Patton. Patton and Zukov despised each other and Stalin wanted him dead. There were multiple attempts and Patton knew he was a target. You are of course aware that Patton stated many times that he wanted to kick the Soviets back out of Central Europe. This one also discusses those US POWs:

Katun Massacre was a “red flag.” In other words it was an atrocity done by Germans to blame Russians.
After the war, this myth was perpetuated by ethnic Ukrainian and, in my believe, a closeted follower of Bandera, N. Khrushchev.
Currently this lie is perpetuated by the CIA.
The Katun Controversy:

Central Intelligence Agency
“Apr 14, 2007 – Strictly speaking, even the Polish servicemen were not POWs. … On 28 September, the USSR and Nazi Germany, allied since August, … proposing to execute captured Polish officers, soldiers, and other prisoners by shooting. ….. declared that Poland has a duty to continue speaking the truth about Katyn.”
You are here to transmit the CIA’s falsities and lies.
The following is an actual research:
It’s in Russian, but since you demonstrate so much knowledge of fake history of Russia, you should be able to read this true and evidence based historical research.

CIA? Not likely. As a matter of fact, I cannot even enter the USA, I am persona non grata.
So if the Germans were responsible for Katyn, why does RT and Putin both say that they aren’t? I guess Putin and RT are CIA, lol.
From RT:
“Initially, the Soviet Union denied any responsibility and tried to blame Nazi forces for the killings. In the 1930s, Soviet security officials planted a forest to hide the mass graves of thousands of political prisoners who had been murdered and buried.
But a document released by Russian president Boris Yeltsin in the 1990s clearly showed the signature of Joseph Stalin on the execution order. “

Still waiting….
While I wait, here is a little tidbit about those gassings that the NKVD blamed on the Germans:
“Without any credible evidence other than Soviet source hearsay there is no
confirmation that Hitler‟s Germany produced vehicles for gassing
prisoners. There is no such ambiguity over the origins of such dreadful
innovation since proven to be of NKVD origin
.
During the 1930s NKVD officer Isay Berg was charged with the execution
of prisoners ordered by the NKVD (court) troika of Moscow Oblast. The
normal procedure following sentencing was to transport prisoners to mass
graves of Butovo for execution by shooting. When three troikas (courts)
were simultaneously in session the executioners had difficulty executing
the numbers sentenced.
Alexander Solzhenitsyn:
“The gas wagon (Russian: душегубка
(dushegubka) was invented and used by the Soviet secret police NKVD in
the late 1930s during the Great Purge. The vehicle had an air tight
compartment for victims, into which exhaust fumes were transmitted while
the engine was running. The victims were gassed with ca
rbon monoxide, resulting in death by monoxide poisoning and suffocation.
The gas van‟s 1936 designer was Isay Davidovich Berg, the Jewish head of
the administrative and economic department of the NKVD of Moscow
Oblast. These vans manufactured in the Ford built plant were the means of
suffocating prisoners in batches with engine fumes while en route to the
mass graves at Butovo where prisoners were subsequently buried.
“Isay Berg‟s method was to strip the victims naked, tether them, plug their
mouths and throw them into a closed truck (see top right and bottom
images). Each van disguised from the outside as a bread van. During
transportation exhaust gases were piped into the body of the van. When
delivered to the farthest (execution) ditch those arrested were already
dead.”
It was Berg‟s suggestion that these vehicles were of the widely used GAZ
–
AA truck chassis (licensed American model Ford AA truck 1929). In
October 1931 a Model AA was the first vehicle produced at Ford’s own
new Dagenham plant in England. Ford licensed the manufacture of the
Model A and AA to a variety of nations, notably the Soviet Union. More
than 985,000 GAZ AAs were built in USSR from 1932 to 1950. ”
So once again, just like Katyn, these gassings were most likely NKVD murders blamed on the Germans.
@Scott:
I am very much pro-Russian — and even more so today than ever — but this does not blind me to communist/bolchevik mass crimes. Denying that Katyn (amongst other places where polish officers were butchered) was done by the NKVD shows your hand: you are a defender of a murderous ideology, no better than the equally murderous nazis that you are rightfully denouncing.
The main flaw in your line of argument boils down to a logical fallacy: it does not follow (/non sequitur/) from the fact that nazis were evil (and they were) that the communists were good people (because for the most part, they were not).
Nazism and communism are the 2 sides of a same coin, a coin initially minted by the “Philosophes”, rooted in materialistic atheism.
I enjoy reading in some of your articles, but I think you are gravely misguided regarding the communist regime that harmed so many Russians, amongst others.
that last alinea is beautifly spoken
This whole article is flawed because it believes the “Western” propaganda that the state-controlled media and competitions like the Eurovision Song Contest actually represent the views of most Europeans. They don’t. Do you think most Europeans view Conchita Wurst as a role model who’s courageous example should be followed? They don’t. Do you think that most Germans support over a million invaders being brought into their country in the last year and going around robbing, raping and murdering at will? Of course not. Then why does the German media only give positive stories about these “refugees” and portray anyone who opposes this invasion as dangerous extremists? Because the media in Germany does not reflect the will of the German people. The media in Europe does not reflect the will of the Europeans peoples. It is completely controlled by the Zio-American establishment.
Don’t make the mistake of believing their propaganda that they represent “the people” of Europe anymore than the “Euromaidan” movement represented “the people” of Ukraine. The media in Europe today is merely a propaganda arm of the EU and the Zio-American establishment that controls it. It is no freer than the media in the Soviet Union was. The only difference is the control is less obvious because officially many of these outlets are not under state ownership. The majority of people in Europe do not support the current regime in Ukraine or the EU’s attempts to bring Ukraine into the organisation – as the results of the Dutch referendum on the EU association deal prove. They were the only country whose people were actually given a say (something the EU despises). If other countries were allowed to vote, the results would have been against it in virtually every one. The establishment in Europe is as much the enemy of the European peoples as it is of Russians, as their role in organising and supporting the non-European invasion and rape of Europe recently shows.

My article is about the atrocities committed by Crimean Turks “Tatars” in Crimea during their collaboration with the Germans and Romanians invaders of the Soviet Russia in 1941-1944. and btw, my article is perfect.
‘The majority of people in Europe do not support the current regime in Ukraine or the EU’s attempts to bring Ukraine into the organisation – as the results of the Dutch referendum on the EU association deal prove”
Sadly, it doesn’t matter what Europeans support neither for the EU gov, nor for NATO.

IDENTICAL method of history revisionism and remilitarization used as described in—M.I.A. or Mythmaking In America: How and why belief in live POWs has possessed a nation, H. Bruce Franklin:
[… B]y far the most influential work in this campaign [the
process of remilitarization and rewriting of history] was the
lavishly financed movie *The Deer Hunter*, which the New York
Film Critic’s Circle designated the best English-language film of
1978 and which received four Academy Awards, including Best
Picture of 1978. *The Deer Hunter* succeeded not only in
radically reimaging the war but into transforming the POWs into
crucial symbols of American manhood.
The REIMAGING was quite conscious, though most critics at the
time seemed oblivious to it. The basic technique was to take
images of the war that had become deeply embedded in America’s
consciousness and transform them into their OPPOSITE.
For example, in the first scene in Vietnam, a uniformed soldier
throws a grenade into an underground village shelter harboring
women and children, and then with his automatic assault rifle
mows down a woman and her baby. Although the scene resembles
*Life*’s pictures of the My Lai massacre, he is not an American
soldier but a North Vietnamese. He is then killed by a lone
guerrilla, who is not a Viet Cong but our Special Forces hero,
Robert de Niro.
When two men plummet from a helicopter, the images replicate a
familiar telephotographic sequence showing a Viet Cong prisoner
being pushed from a helicopter to make other prisoners talk; but
the falling men in the movie are American POWs attempting to
escape from their murderous Viet Cong captors.
The central structural metaphor of the film is the Russian
roulette the sadistic Asian Communists force their prisoners to
play. POW after POW is shown with a revolver at his right temple,
framed to match with precision the sequence seen by tens of
millions of Americans in which the chief of the Saigon secret
police placed a revolver to the right temple of an NFL [National
Liberation Front of South Vietnam] prisoner and killed him with a
single shot; even the blood spurting out of the temple is exactly
replicated. There is absolutely no evidence that any such
atrocity was ever committed against a single prisoner of the NFL
of North Vietnam.
Hello Saker,
We have talked once on your old blog about Jesus in Islam and so on as far as I remember.
I came along your insights about the Tartars. I think something similar applies to Western Ukraine, too. After reading, I think Montesignore’s Stalin biography or Overy’s book about Russia’s war, I came to the conclusion (or it was written in these two books) that Stalin had to take Western Ukrainians out of the Polish state to prevent similar massacres from returning Poles, even in one Eastern communist block. We all know about Western Ukrainians crime on Poles, not just them, but they are similar to the Tartars one described by you. So Stalin shifted Polands eastern border to the west, to the disadvantage of the the Germans, of course. But he couldn’t let Poles and Western Ukrainians live in one state. Maybe the expulsion of large parts of German inhabitants in these parts of Poland / Prussia must be reviewed again.
I think, the whole issue of “population exchange” must be reviewed in that regard if the shifting of borders meant the shifting of populations (by Stalin or others) and if the “expulsion of populations” must be seen in Cold war context, and not in Stalins (assumed) despotic nature.
I am currently engaged on an amusing facebook discussion whereby I suggested that Russia be allowed next year to sing in Kiev about Tatar collaboration with the Nazis during 1942-1944. When I asked people to provide evidence that:-
1 They did not collaborate with the Nazis and suppressed and killed the locals
2 That Stalin did not have any reason to deport them.
3 That staying put in Crimea would be better for the Tatrs than being deported….
I was labelled a troll and an idiot. No facts were offered up. Just insults… in Russian!
1. No one denies that some of Crimean Tatars collaborated with Germans (around 2.000 among more than 230.000 Crimean Tatars, whereas 20.000 were soldiers in Red Army…). They collaborated because they wanted freedom from Stalinist repressions against them.
2. Stalin justified the deportations and the deaths of Crimean Tatars by “collective collaboration with Nazies”, which is bullshit lie (see 1.). He deported even those Tatars who fought in Red Army, who were communists, kids, women etc.
3. Crimea was their home, so obviously they wanted to stay there. During the deportations may of them died. The repressions and deportations stared much before 1944 and before some of the Tatars collaborated with Germans.
The fact that they replied in Russian, does not make them Russians living in RF. You can bet those are Banderastan citizens, or Canadian Ukies, or US or EU Ukies, LOL.
all in all it is a waste of Brainpower trying to reason with them, wherever they are trolling from.
History is of little use to people in the KoolAid, or in Meth, or captagon. Much less reasoning.
The interesting thing in this Lazarev apparent symbolic triumph, is that is a 5th. columnist, he has commented that crimea is Ukrainian. So, what is this all about? the paradigm that Russia received support? or that a 5th. columnist received support?
my Crimean wife was so disturbed about ukr winning she stayed up until 2am on internet trying to research all this kind of info so I will get her to read this, many thanks. If she can add anything i’ll ask her to post it, she was saying about Tatars were involved in the German camps like Auschwitz she believed.

The Minister of Culture Evgeny Nyschuk suggested that Ukraine should draw upon European investors to provide funding for next year’s Eurovision song contest in Kiev.
Eurovision-2017 is to be held in Ukraine. While the budget of the event amounts to a mind-blowing tens of thousands of dollars, the country on the verge of default is considering asking Europe for help.
According to the minister, the state budget will not cover the organization of the event.
We need to bring in European experts, for Stockholm has set a high standard. This standard requires tremendous financial injection.
He added that the Ministry of Culture, state authorities, national TV companies and specialists from the team of this year’s winner Jamala will be responsible for preparations, reports Sputnik.
It is important for the image of Ukraine to organize the show properly. We need to show that it is safe to travel here and that one can invest In Ukraine. ”

Having won “Eurovision”, Ukraine and its “distressful budget” actually became the loser, considers the chairman of the Federation Council’s International Affairs Committee Konstantin Kosachev.
In an aggregate amount of points there won the geopolitics. But I can’t congratulate Ukraine because Ukraine is among losers.
According to him, the music lost because “obviously not the best composition”got the first prize. The contest and Europe lost because instead of holding the “honest contest, there triumphed the politics”
The Minsk process lost as well including the efforts of the Poroshenko’s team, because “it is already incredibly difficult for them to get the necessary majority in the Verkhovna Rada for adoption of the prime points of the “Minsk 2” – the laws on decentralization, amnesty and so on. Now there are even less incentives — why should they change laws or to negotiate if “Europe is with us”, “The West helps us”.
For this reason Ukraine lost. And not only its distressful budget lost. The main necessary thing for the country and the nation now is to live in peace. But there won the war.
Voting for Jamala actually paved the way for continuation of Kiev repressions against its own people.

KYIV (QHA) –
“Europe must strengthen the sanctions against Russia due to its actions in annexed Crimea, reported the Presidential Press Service citing the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko as saying at a meeting with EU Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos.
According to Poroshenko, so far, the situation with the protection of the rights of the Crimean Tatars has significantly deteriorated in Crimea and the harassment and arrests of the Mejlis members have spun up with new strength.
– The situation with the rights of Ukrainians, including the Crimean Tatars, is catastrophic, said the President.
He stressed that in today’s realities, “the EU sanctions against Russia should not only be kept, but also ramped up due to its crimes in Crimea.”
May 12, the Security Forces took away the Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People Ilmi Umerov to the FSB in the city of Simferopol. Following that Umerov was handed a recognizance not to leave and his house searched.”

Ukraine’s Presidential Commissioner on the Affairs of the Crimean Tatar People MP Mustafa Dzhemilev arrived in Canada on May, 16.
– The leader of the Crimean Tatars, MP, Ukraine’s Presidential Commissioner on the Affairs of the Crimean Tatar People, Mustafa Dzhemilev arrived in Canada, according to a post on the Facebook page of the Presidential Commissioner.
The post has not specified the program and the purpose of Mustafa Dzhemilev’s visit.
Earlier Dzhemilev met with members of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Swedish Riksdag. During the meeting, Mustafa Aga discussed with Swedish Parliamentarians the raids in homes and mosques of the Crimean Tatars, the issue of IDPs, the crime growth in the Russia annexed peninsula, as well as Crimea’s power and water dependence on Ukraine.”

STOCKHOLM (QHA) –
During the meeting with the Speaker of the Swedish Parliament the leader of the Crimean Tatar People Mustafa Dzhemilev stressed that the Mejlis does not recommend the Crimean Tatars, who now left Crimea, to move to Turkey or other countries.
The best option for them is to take up residence in the regions bordering Crimea – then it will be easier for them to return home following de-occupation of the peninsula.
The Speaker of the Swedish Parliament Urban Ahlin took interest in the Crimean Tatar history, the details of their deportation from Crimea in 1944, as well as the current situation in the peninsula.
Dzhemilev told that during the mass return of Crimean Tatars to their homeland in 90s, only a small part of them could return to the places where they lived before – the Southern Coast of Crimea since the housing prices went up greatly.
A separate topic was the ability of various human rights missions to visit annexed Crimea today. According to Dzhemilev, European politicians, who visited Crimea following the annexation, failed to describe the real situation on the peninsula as the self-proclaimed authorities are not interested in showing the real situation.
According to Mustafa Dzhemilev, the Council of Europe mission led by Gerard Stoudmann, which visited Crimea in January, delivered a rather mild report in order to get a further opportunity to visit Crimea.
The Turkish delegates were going to do the same, but today the Mejlis’s stance is covering the real events in Crimea. If the European politicians want to act more gently, their actions won’t be supported by the Crimean Tatar people, who are currently suffering because of human rights violations in Crimea.
The leader of the Crimean Tatar People also told Urban Ahlin about the Committee established in Stockholm and aimed to support Dzhemilev during his exile in 1979. According to the Speaker, this support is very important for the Crimean Tatars, especially in such a difficult period of history.
Dzhemilev also invited the Speaker of the Swedish Parliament to visit Kyiv and meet with the Mejlis.

ANKARA (QHA) –
On May 14, Gayana Yuksel, a member of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people and Chief Editor of the “Crimean News” (QHA) news agency, delivered her speech at the memorial meeting in Turkey, dedicated to the 72nd anniversary of the genocide of the Crimean Tatar people.
Some 5,000 people gathered at the rally organized by the Platform of Crimean Tatar Organizations in Turkey, the largest association of Crimean Tatar public organizations uniting 49 derneks in Turkey.
“Today we have gathered at the memorial meeting to commemorate the victims of the genocide of the Crimean Tatar people in 1944. Back then, 238,000 innocent women, children and elderly people were deported to Central Asia and Urals, and there was nobody to stand up for them, because their husbands, fathers and brothers were at the front,” Gayana Yuksel began her speech.
She noted that, unfortunately, the historical tragedy has once again become a reality for the Crimean Tatars. These days, the Crimean Tatars are regularly subjected to illegal arrests, searches and criminal cases initiated against them in the annexed Crimea.
“Alas, persecution and repression against the Crimean Tatars has been continuing since the occupation of Crimea by Russia. In two years, 22 people have got missing in Crimea, and almost all of them are Crimean Tatars. There are 17 people in prisons and pre-trial detention centers on trumped-up cases. Almost 17,000 Crimean Tatars left the peninsula, and this process in ongoing,” said the Mejlis member.
“If the live is good in Crimea, as the Crimean government says, why do people go to mainland Ukraine? If the Crimean Tatars are not oppressed, why are they subject to searches and arrests? If Crimean Tatar people live well and freely on the peninsula, why are they afraid to voice their opinion? Whose door will they knock on tomorrow to conduct a search and call anyone a terrorist?” Gayana Yuksel summed up her speech with the rhetorical questions.
The rally was attended by representatives of youth associations and movements, gathered at the Youth Congress of Crimean Tatars held in Ankara on May 13-15 as well.

SIMFEROPOL/AQMESCIT (QHA) –
The Simferopol City “Administration” held a meeting on preparation and holding events dedicated to the Crimean Tatars Remembrance Day of Deportation.
The meeting was attended by the so-called Head of the Simferopol City Administration Gennady Bakharev, former member of the Mejlis Teyfuk Gafarov, who went over to the occupiers, and security agencies.
Issues on arranging events, devoted to the Crimean Tatars Remembrance Day of Deportation, were on the agenda. The meeting attendees emphasized the need to comply with the legislation of Russia, a country-occupier, which regulates that the meetings, rallies, demonstrations, marches, pickets and auto races may only be carried out in coordination with local authorities.
It was reported earlier that a search was conducted in the home of a Crimean Tatar in the Crimean village of Pionerske.
Russian security forces searched a mosque in the village of Vishennoye, Belogorsk district, on the evening of May13.
On May12, the Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov voiced his concern about a new wave of raids after security forces invaded the Caravanserai “Salachik” Crimean Tatar Cultural Center in Bakhchysarai. On that day, Zevri Abseitov, Remzi Memetov, Rustem Abiltarov and Enver Mamutov were arrested.
The so-called Crimean prosecutor Natalia Poklonskaya called the detainees terrorists, accusing them of involvement in “Hizb ut-Tahrir” international political party.
On May 6, armed men raided a mosque in the village of Molodizhne, Simferopol district.

“A Struggle for Home” wins the DCIFF Best International Film Award
A new documentary about Crimean Tatars and their ongoing struggle won the Best International Film Award at the DC Independent Film Festival (DCIFF) in Washington, DC. “A Struggle for Home” was screened on 10 March 2016, along with “Beyond Recognition,” a short film about American Indian rights. In making the documentary, Director and Producer Christina Paschyn interviewed Crimean Tatar residents and activists, survivors of the Deportation, Russian nationalists, and scholars. The film tells the tragic history of Tatars and the new challenges they face under the Russian occupation of Crimea. It has already been screened at film festivals in Amsterdam, Doha (Qatar), and Borrego (California), and at Crimean Tatar Association in Brooklyn, New York (12 December 2015), Ukrainian Institute for America in New York City (29 January 2016), Ukrainian Cultural Center near Philadelphia (13 March) and European Parliament in Brussels (16 March). We offer our heart-felt congratulations to Christina Paschyn and hope that it will go on winning more awards and spreading the word about Crimean Tatars.

NEW YORK (QHA) –
Called ‘Indigenous Crimean Tatars: Strategies for Survival and Securing Rights’, the side event will analyse the Crimean Tatar situation from the perspective of a people that self-identifies as indigenous and expects states to recognize them as such.
The key discussion questions will include:
– Are Crimean Tatars indigenous people or not? Who is to decide?
– What kind of support and/or protection can Crimean Tatars expect from international norms (e.g., UNDRIP), institutions (including UN system) and world’s indigenous peoples?
– What are rational survival strategies for Crimean Tatars in light of the politically charged situation: resistance, non-collaboration or, perhaps, acceptance of new realities?
The event will be attended by Mr. Eskender Bariiev, Member of Crimean Tatar Mejlis (Ukraine), Ms. Emine Dzhapparova, First Deputy Minister of Information Policy (Ukraine), Mr. Aleksey Tsykarev, Chair of EMRIP (Russian Federation), Ms. Dalee Sambo Dorough, Member and Former Chair of UNPFII (USA).
Mr. Oliver Loode, Member of UNPFII (Estonia), will moderate the discussion.
After the dramatic events of 2014, Crimean Tatars have found themselves in a vulnerable position that is aggravated by their historical experiences of deportation and genocide. New de facto authorities of Crimea have not recognized Crimean Tatars as indigenous people of Crimea, have detained Crimean Tatar activists and, most recently, banned the representative body of Crimean Tatars, the Mejlis, on grounds of extremism. While Ukraine and the European Parliament have recognized Crimean Tatars as indigenous people of Crimea and have condemned numerous human rights violations towards Crimean Tatars, this is currently of little practical help for Crimean Tatars living in Crimea who have been left mostly on their own.

Kyiv concerned about human rights violations in Russian-occupied peninsula
Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry insists that international organisation should be allowed to enter Russian-occupied Crimea to ensure human rights are observed on the peninsula, Deputy Foreign Minister Serhiy Kyslytsia has said during a briefing.
“Since 2014, Ukraine’s official position has been that the occupation authorities must provide access to international organisations for monitoring the observance of human rights on the occupied peninsula,” Kyslytsia stated.

He added the work of the international organisations must be conducted on the grounds of UN and E.U. legal standards.
“However, this monitoring should be done by international organisations as the monitoring of Ukrainian territory, and not of Russian territory,” Deputy Foreign Minister said.”

But Russia’s own Eurovision entrant, the bookies’ favorite, can hardly be described as an admirer of the Kremlin’s seizure of the peninsula or the jingoism behind it.
A video showing Russian contender Sergei Lazarev discussing the Crimean takeover has surfaced online, creating a stir among both fans and foes.
In the two-year-old interview to Ukrainian television, Lazarev said he still considered Crimea to be part of Ukraine.
“Maybe my own Russian fans will throw tomatoes at me, but this is the way it is for me,” he said. “When I travel to Yalta, for me it’s Ukraine.”
He added that he “won’t take part” in concerts where Russian performers chant from the stage that Crimea and Russia are one nation.
“I don’t share this general euphoria,” he said.

Lazarev, whose grandmother is Ukrainian, also revealed that he had turned down invitations to tour Crimea.
“At this stage I’m not ready to go there,” he said.
While Lazarev plans to sing about love at the upcoming Eurovision contest, his offstage comments have already sparked calls for a boycott from some Russian viewers.
“I’ll skip Eurovision this year,” tweeted Dmitry Smirnov, a correspondent at the pro-Kremlin Komsomolskaya Pravda tabloid.
Lazarev, however, has substantially toned down his criticism since the 2014 interview. In subsequent comments on Ukrainian television, he claimed that his words had been taken out of context.

And in April 2016, he refused to share his views on Crimea, telling the reporter that he no longer answered questions about politics.
Lazarev was nonetheless reportedly spotted at a Eurovision event in this year’s host city, Stockholm, wearing clothes by a Ukrainian designer, in what has been interpreted by some as a discreet gesture of support for his grandmother’s homeland.

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine calls on international organizations to condemn the Russian Federation for its violations of human rights and freedoms of the Crimean Tatar people, an UNIAN correspondent reported referring to an appeal of the Ukrainian Parliament to the United Nations, the European Parliament, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, world leaders, and all members of the international community.

The appeal was submitted to honor victims of genocide of the Crimean Tatar people and condemn violations by Russia of human rights and freedoms of Crimean Tatars. The relevant resolution No. 4476 was supported by 240 votes.
It is stated that a systematic pressure on the Crimean Tatar people, the repression of Ukrainian citizens on a national basis, the organization of ethnically and politically motivated prosecutions of Crimean Tatars and their bodies, the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people and the Kurultay of the Crimean Tatar people, in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine by Russian state authorities starting from the date of the temporary occupation, are a deliberate policy of ethnocide in respect to the Crimean Tatar people.

“Mark the date. Saturday May 14, 2016, the day the music died and a song contest whose well-intentioned original aim of national harmony has become the latest front in the Western elite’s obsessional and relentless new Cold War against Russia.
A blatantly political song by Ukraine – which should not have been allowed in the contest in the first place as it clearly broke the European Broadcasting Union’s ‘No Politics’ rules – was declared the ‘winner’ of the Eurovision Song Contest, even though the country which got the most votes from the general public was Russia.
What helped Ukraine ‘win’ were the ‘national juries’ panels of so-called ‘music industry professionals’ who were given 50 percent of the votes and who only put Russia in joint fifth place, with 81 fewer points than Ukraine.
What we saw last night, as some on Twitter have commented, was a replay of the 2000 US Presidential election between Al Gore and George W. Bush, when Gore got the most votes, but the neocon-backed Bush made it to the White House. The Establishment may give us plebs a say, but it has mechanisms to make sure that it gets the result it most desires.

Worth the fee? © Leonhard FoegerEurovision Song Contest funded by TV license fee system that criminalizes poor people
The prospect of a Russian Eurovision win and next year’s contest being held in Moscow certainly seems to have caused great panic in Western Establishment circles. We’ve already got the next football World Cup scheduled to be held in Russia in 2018- an event which has come under attack from Russophobes who are calling for boycotts or for the tournament to be transferred; having Eurovision in Russia as well would clearly be too much for them. For daring to resist Western regime change plans in Syria and elsewhere, Russia should be sanctioned and isolated and not be hosting international events watched by millions of people around the world!
We heard earlier that the European Broadcasting Union was very worried about Russia winning Eurovision 2016 and by jove, they did everything they could to prevent that from happening. It wasn’t just the voting system –with ‘national juries’ used to skew public opinion, it was also the running order, in which Jamala, the Ukrainian contestant, was given a prime Number 21 slot to sing ‘1944’.
In modern Eurovision contests, in which there are so many countries taking part, singing towards the end of the show is usually a major advantage.
Would Jamala have done as well if she’d been asked to go on fifth? I very much doubt it.
In the end, the EBU got the result they wanted. But in doing so they have destroyed the contest. Eurovision has for long been plagued by bloc voting – in which countries vote for their neighbours – but what we saw last night was something different altogether. The contest has never been so blatantly political and the agenda so obvious.

At the time of publication, the appeal to the organizers of “Eurovision” was signed by more than 29,000 people from the required 35,000.
The petition creator is the resident of Yerevan Arthur Hovhannisyan, however, the appeal was supported by residents from the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Australia, Serbia, Sweden, Russia, Ukraine, and other countries.
“We understand that the vote of the jury and TV audience was a difficult and emotional process, but the number of signatories to this petition shows that many are convinced that the “winner” of the contest this year was not the one who was supposed to win,” said the author of the statement.
Resident of Madrid Kristian Garrido also created a Change.org petition, which urged Spain to refuse to participate in “Eurovision-2017”. According to him, this year the final competition in Stockholm involved “bullying” half of Europe. It became clear that the results are determined by “political interests”.
“Spain should not participate, at least in 2017, for all to see and understand how we are outraged,” wrote the author of the petition.
German users on the website OpenPetition called for an end to German participation in the Eurovision song contest. According to the author of one of the petitions, the competition “is not won on artistic level, but only reflects political developments”.
France began collecting signatures for the dismissal of the presenter, which commented on the final of “Eurovision” on the TV channel France 2. The author of the statement on the website Avaaz writes that the host Marianne James made insulting remarks against Russia live and damaged the image of France.

The Russian song was the winner of the televote in the contest, which means more people voted for it than the wailing and high-pitched moaning of Jamala. It was the juries which made sure Russia wouldn’t win, with many countries’ juries giving Russia 0 votes.
I would respect Russia more if it quit the contest, but I think they do have fun in it, and Russia and eastern countries don’t have anything so large and with all the hoopla that many people seem to crave.
The Russian acts are usually very western style in the songs and presentation. Perhaps Russia likes to show it can “beat them at their own game” or it is simply using strategy to end up well. Russia usually ends up very high.
Tatars were not deported from Crimea. If you look at a dictionary you will see that ‘deport’, means to force a person to leave a country. No Tatars were moved to another country. They were sent to a different part of the country. They were ‘evacuated’ from Crimea to places close to Mongolia, where they came from in 1249. They were still Soviet Citizens living in the Soviet Union. The use of the word in this case is a misnomer.
One of the leaders of the Crimean Tatar extremists, the organizer of the commodity and energy blockade of the Crimea, Refat Chubarov said he expected the amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine, which will be secured the right to self-determination of the Crimean Tatars after the “de-occupation of the Crimea.”
“The President of Ukraine had to give to the public the existing order of the Constitutional Commission, the working group for drafting amendments to section 10 of the Constitution of Ukraine was created in its structure. Section called “Autonomous Republic of Crimea”. We believe that this section should be spelled out very clearly that the Crimean autonomy is formed on the basis of the rights of the Crimean Tatar people to self-determination as part of the Ukrainian state, “- said Chubarov during a briefing in Kiev.
In general, purely separatist demands on the Ukrainian authorities, and after another “ATO” against Crimean Tatar extremists not hold, because – allies in the struggle against Russia and the residents of Donbass, 2 years as declared Kiev separatists …

Jamala’s “Ukrainian” Parents Prosper in Russian Crimea
Translated by Ollie Richardson for Fort Russ
16th May, 2016
News-front
Why doesn’t the current winner of “Eurovision” – Susana Jamaladinova (Jamala) – like to talk about her family, and why they flatly refused to move to Kiev?
She insists her father doesn’t want to leave their house in the expensive resort village of Malorechenskoye near Alushta: “We were one of the first Crimean Tatars who bought a house in Crimea. My mom taught piano, while my dad is a conductor by profession. But he realized that he would not be able to provide for his family making music, and began to grow vegetables and fruits. We have a large garden there – figs, persimmons, and pomegranates…”
“I tried to persuade my parents to leave for a long time. But they said no,” says Jamal. “They built a house and cultivate a garden with their own hands, and now I asked to give that up in a second…. They, of course, are still in Crimea. All my attempts and talks have been unsuccessful. Mom can’t leave dad, dad can’t leave grandfather… It is very painful and hard. I understand that they can’t go. Pomegranate trees grows in our yard, persimmons, figs… This house cannot be so easily quit. They are not afraid even, say, to die, no matter how scary it sounds, but they refuse to leave the house.
To put it mildly, Jamal is a hypocrite. None of her family is going to die. On the contrary, the family really thrives. All the relatives of the “Ukrainian patriot” received Russian citizenship and are quite happy with life. Moreover, they were collectively issued so-called “Putin’s help” on rehabilitation and now get crazy benefits for utilities – a 50% discount on water, electricity and gas, and free trips to resorts.
The only problem for Jamala’s parents are the Tatar neighbors who ask the father: “Why did your daughter decide to sing such a song?”
“It’s all on the level of market conversations. I say all the time that they shouldn’t pay attention,” assures Susana.
Although the crazy daughter would not sing, no one throws grenades and “Molotov cocktails” at her parents in the yard. Here live normal, adequate people. It’s not Maidan Ukraine, Crimeans do not suffer from “brain damage.”
Until a few months ago, the Bandera blockade hurt the family of the singer. According to Jamala, her father was ready to heat the house with wood, but would not leave his native Crimea. Today, however, all Ukrainian villagers are invited to heat with manure. Having remained under “Russian occupation”, senior Jamaladinov isn’t doomed to this kind of perspective.
“In Alushta and Simferopol, light was given for at least for a couple hours, but dad said that the lights could be out for two months. Father said that he has firewood and coal… the only problem is communication. That’s difficult. Mom really missed me. And when we met her, mom was crying…” said the “eurostar”.
“Luckily, mom comes to visit me often. She helps her sister to look after the children, caring for a large house. So I try to let her rest, to amuse her. We are like two friends: we walk a lot, go to the movies and shopping.”
No one in Crimea prevents such contact. The singer reported that after the energy blockade of the Peninsula it was time to meet her relatives. However, for some reason, she refused to comment on the current situation on the south coast. Otherwise, she’d have to tell you about a crazy influx of Russian holidaymakers, and it would be necessary to compare the well-being of the elderly in Crimea with the nightmare of the Ukrainian reality.
Here’s another characteristic revelation by Jamala:
“My dad every fall and winter sends me fruit from our garden to Kiev. Persimmons, figs, and pomegranates. Now on the so-called border with Crimea, he must offer a bribe so that these fruits are overlooked, so he leaves the guards a box of persimmons or figs. He always has tears in his eyes when he tells me about it, because these boxes he so lovingly assembled for me! I answered him: “Baba, it is so small! Most importantly — it was allowed to be transported through”. We rejoice in little things, which should be the norm for all.
It should be added that the Ukrainian border guards rob the old Tatar man. One box for themselves and a container forwarded to Kiev, spat on by the “Poroshenko-Islamist” blockade.
Today, however, Jamala’s family has a very specific reason to hate the Russian administration. The Jamaladinova clan suddenly lost their illegal tavern on the coast! Like many Mejlis institutions, the resort’s tavern did not meet any sanitary standards, was operating without paying taxes, and thus it was closed. As they say, a quote without any comment needed:
“Now the new government’s inhuman methods “ennobles” the coast. They take down all the cafes and restaurants on the coastal strip. A tractor comes and levels what people have invested in for many years to the ground. All tourists living the dream of summer are left without a piece of bread.
And I, for example, received higher education precisely thanks to this establishment. We had a family dining table for four: mom used to make, for example, manti, father — rice, I washed the dishes, and my sister served and was counting people in the room. If it was not for that, neither I nor my sister would not have had the opportunity to study at the Conservatory.
Jamala’s Sister Evelyn is married to a Turkish citizen and moved to live in Istanbul.”

“SIMFEROPOL, May 17. / TASS /. Crimea’s authorities will be glad to see Ukrainian singer Jamala who won this year’s Eurovision song contest with a song about the deportation of Crimean Tatars in 1944 at the opening ceremony of a memorial dedicated to the deportation victims, Crimea’s Deputy Prime Minister Ruslan Balbek said on Tuesday .
“Jamala would have an all-round support from the Crimean Tatars and from all people living in Crimea should she sing this song at the opening ceremony of the memorial complex instead of Eurovision. This song would be more appropriate there and then and everyone would praise it and her talent, “he said, adding that the song looked out of place at the Eurovision song contest.
The first stage of the memorial complex will be unveiled at the Syren station near Bakhchisarai on May 18. The complex will center round a wooden railway car that was used to deport Crimean Tatars from the peninsula in 1944. The complex will be completely launched in 2019 , by the 75th anniversary of the deportation.

MOSCOW, May 17. / TASS /. Ukrainian singer Jamala who won this year’s Eurovision song contest with a controversial song about the deportation of Crimean Tatars in 1944 will not go to Crimea to sing at the opening ceremony of a memorial dedicated to the deportation victims, Jamala’s producer Igor Tarnapolsky said on Tuesday.
“No, we did not plan it. Frankly speaking, the schedule is too busy … Objective situation makes it impossible. Moreover, a commemorative event on this occasion will be held in Kiev and we will sign there,” he said in an interview with the govorit Moskva radio station.
Crimea’s Deputy Prime Minister Ruslan Balbek said earlier on Tuesday the Crimean authorities would be glad to see Jamala at the memorial’s opening ceremony on May 18.
Eurovision’2016 finals were held on May 14 in Stockholm. The program featured 26 performers – ten performing representing each round of the semi-finals and six representing Sweden as the host country, as well as Britain, Germany, Spain, Italy, and France as the founders of the contest.
Ukrainian songstress Jamala took the first place with the song titled ‘1944’. Sergei Lazarev of Russia took the third place with the song ‘You Are the Only One’ composed by Russian pop star Filip Kirkorov.

shame-could have been used to help “heal’ or reconcile these events, but ukr wishes to maximise its politicalisation one could think?
In April-May of 1944, the Crimean Tatar battalions took part in battles against the Red Army in the Crimea. The units that were evacuated from the Crimea in June 1944, were compiled into the Tatar mountain-Jaeger three-battalion SS Regiment. A month later, the group became the first Tatar-mountain-Jaeger SS Brigade (2,500 troops) under the command of SS Standartenführer Fortenbah. On 31 December 1944, the unit was disbanded to become a part of the East Turkic branch of SS as the Crimea battle group: two infantry battalions and one hundred horses.
German Field Marshal Erich von Manstein testified: “Most of the Crimean Tatar population was very friendly to us. We could even form armed self-defense companies from the Tatars, whose task was to protect their villages from guerrillas that were hiding in the mountains. The powerful guerrilla movement appeared in the Crimea from the very start, and it was causing us great trouble. The reason for the movement to appear was the fact that there were many Russians among the population of the Crimea, in addition to the Tatars and other small ethnic groups.
“The Tartars stood on our side at once. In December 1941, Muslim Tatar committees supporting the German occupation administration were established in the Crimea. The Central Crimean Muslim Committee started working in Simferopol. Their organization and activities were carried out under the direct supervision of SS. Subsequently, the committees were handed over to the SD headquarters. In September 1942, the German occupation administration banned the use of the title word “Crimean,” and the committee was called the Simferopol Muslim Committee. In 1943, it was renamed to the Simferopol Tatar Committee. The committee consisted of six departments: for the struggle against Soviet partisans, for the formation of volunteer units, for assisting the families of volunteers, for culture and propaganda; for religion, for maintenance and chancellory.”
The original program of the committee stipulated for the creation of a state of Crimean Tatars in the Crimea under the protectorate of Germany, with its own parliament and army. However, in the winter of 1941-42, the German command made it clear that it did not intend to create any public formation in the Crimea. The Nazi plan was to make the Crimea a part of the Reich as the imperial land Gotenland.
In October 1941, the establishment of volunteer units of the Crimean Tatars was started. The main task for them was to fight the guerrillas. Prior to January 1942, this process was going spontaneously. Yet, after Hitler officially sanctioned the recruitment of volunteers from among the Crimean Tatars, more than 8,600 volunteers were recruited in January 1942. As a result, 14 self-defense companies were formed.
Tatar volunteer corps were implementing mass executions of Soviet citizens. They were free in their actions in matters of punitive activity. To escape from their violence, Russian-speaking residents of the Crimea would at times seek assistance from the German authorities. In March 1942, there were 4,000 people serving in self-defense companies, while another 5,000 were in the reserve. Battalions of auxiliary police were then formed from those companies (eight such units had been formed by November 1942. Two ore battalions were formed in 1943.
The units of the Crimean Tatars would be used to protect military and civilian targets; they would be actively involved in the fight against the guerrillas. In 1944, they showed resistance to the liberation of the Crimea by the Red Army. The remains of the Crimean Tatar units together with the German and Romanian troops were evacuated from the Crimea by sea.
In the summer of 1944, in Hungary, the remnants of the Crimean Tatar units were used to form the Tatar mountain-Jaeger SS Regiment, which was soon reorganized into the 1st Tatar mountain-Jaeger SS Brigade. The brigade was disbanded on December 31, 1944 and converted into the Crimea battle group that subsequently merged with the East Turkic SS branch. The Crimean Tatars that did not join the Tatar-Jaeger SS Regiment, were sent to France, where they enrolled auxiliary anti-aircraft defense services.

Thank you, Scott. You said you don’t know exactly the circumstances around the decision to remove Turks from Crimea after the liberation. There is some information for you. Sorry, this is google translation. But I think you will understand most of it.
May 11, 1944 the State Defense Committee adopted a decree №5859 on “On Crimean Tatars”:
“During World War II, many Crimean Tatars have betraied the Native land, deserted from the Red Army, defending the Crimea, and went over to the enemy, joined the Germans formed volunteer Tatar military units, fought against the Red Army; during the occupation of the Crimea German – fascist troops, taking part in the German punitive detachments, Crimean Tatars especially noted for their brutal reprisals against Soviet partisans, and also helped the German invaders in organizing the violent theft of Soviet citizens into German slavery and mass extermination of Soviet people.

The 13th Islamic Summit entitled “Unity And Solidarity For Justice And Peace,” set up by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (IOC) took place on April 10-15 in Istanbul, Turkey and yielded some revealing but certainly not unsuspected news. At the summit, chaired by Turkish President Recep Erdogan, more signs emerged of a Turkish/GCC attempt to not only continue to destabilize Syria but an attempt to extend the destabilization into Eurasia, up to the Russian border, and even inside Russian territory itself.
During the course of the summit, then-Turkish Prime Minister Davitoglu addressed the issues of the “Occupied Islamic Territories,” i.e. Palestine, Nagorno-Karabkh, and Crimea and expressed concerns about the development of those situations. He stated that these areas needed to be rescued via cultural, religious, and “other” means although he was not specific as to what these “other” means might be. He also referred to the Crimean issue as one of the main issues of the summit.
Although the Turkish version of the summit’s communique was not ultimately not accepted by the group, the communique that was produced condemned “Armenian aggression” in Nagorno-Karabkh and expressed “interest” in the Crimean situation.
It should also be noted that Mustafa Dzhemilev, former chairman of the Mejlis Of the Crimean Tatar People, was presented by the summit as the only legitimate representative of the Crimean people. Dzhemilev held a joint meeting with the Turkish and Azeri presidents during the course of the summit.
In addition, King Salmaan of Saudi Arabia was in attendance and was greeted at the airport by Recep Erdogan who later presented the King with an award at an official ceremony.
News organization SouthFront has suggested that Saudi Arabia and Qatar are using Turkey to expand their influence in both Eurasia and, eventually, the EU. SouthFront arguesthat Turkey has accepted this scheme and is currently moving forward in terms of implementation.”

SOCHI, May 19. / TASS /. Ankara’s stance on Crimean Tatars is biased and extremely politicized, Russian Foreign Ministry’s Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday.
“In connection with another series of statements related to Crimea and Crimean Tatars, it stands as absolutely obvious for us that Ankara’s stance is biased and extremely politicized,” Zakharova said. “The Turkish authorities’ prejudice is growing proportionally to anti-Russian propaganda on the whole.”

Zakharova said that since the beginning of Ukraine crisis Turkey “has preferred ignoring true reasons behind the developments” and thought it beneficial “to qualify Crimea’s reunification with Russia as illegal annexation.”
“Recently, they have gone ahead and name it ‘occupation,'” the diplomat said. “But who says these words? I would like to remind that one third of Cyprus has been under occupation for over 40 years. The UN is still carrying out the search for missing people, namely the victims of military intervention.”
“So when saying these words, start from yourselves and then we will probably heed you,” she said, noting Ankara’s attempts to speculate on Crimean Tatars’ deportation in 1944.
“I would like to remind that Russian authorities, as one of the first steps after Crimea’s access into Russia, issued a decree on political rehabilitation of Crimean Tatars and other repressed ethnic groups,” Zakharova said. “Thanks to this, the consequences of deportations of Crimean Tatars and other ethnic groups from the territory of Crimea are gradually eliminated.”
“We recommend both Turkish authorities and other political figures who are speculating on the theme to pay proper attention, above all, to the history of their home countries and real processes ongoing in Crimea,” Zakharova said in conclusion.

Ukraine has neglected Crimean Tatars’ problems for years and has hampered their political rehabilitation, representatives of the ethnic minority said in a statement as Crimea remembered the 72nd anniversary of the 1944 deportation of Tatars at Stalin’s decree.
“Our people are angered at attempts to put outside pressure on us to drive a wedge between ethnic groups and stir up civil feuds,” the Crimean Tatar community said in a statement on Wednesday, signed by more than 20 public organizations. The statement, cited by RIA Novosti, adds that some ethnic Crimean Tatars now living in Ukraine “have opted for a wrong political course.”

“They have divided us, but what is most dangerous is that they crossed the line by calling on our children and grandchildren to join paramilitary groupings to make military incursions into Crimea using Islam as an ideological weapon,” it said, apparently referring to Lenur Islyamov, a self-proclaimed Crimean Tatar radical leader and coordinator of the peninsula’s land blockade.
Previously, Islyamov said there are “more than 100 people” ready to form a “Tatar battalion” whose task would be to “protect the Crimean frontier” and launch guerrilla attacks inside the peninsula. Islyamov slammed Ukrainian authorities for their reluctance to support the “battalion” and claimed that the Turkish military already contributes to its activities.
Ukraine itself, the Crimean Tatars’ statement added, has long hampered their political rehabilitation and has failed to meet the people’s needs.
“For 25 years, those forces [Ukrainian authorities] prevented any of our important problems from being solved, let alone the issue of political rehabilitation.” After Crimea’s re-unification with Russia, the situation has changed: “Today, we do fully feel as a united people living in its historic homeland.”

A series of commemorative events that began in Crimea on Wednesday to remember the 1944 forcible deportation of Crimean Tatars included starting work on a new memorial site.
The memorial site to the 1944 deportation is located in the southern part of Crimea, and is being built near to the railway station of Siren, where over 70,000 Tatars were loaded into cattle trains and deported to Central Asia, mostly Soviet Uzbekistan.
A symbolic cattle wagon, representing the tragedy, is part of a wider memorial installation worth 400 million rubles (US$6 million) in total, Crimea’s premier Sergey Aksyonov told journalists on Wednesday. He emphasized that such a situation must never happen again, promising Crimean Tatars full support from the regional government to meet their needs.

In Ukraine, where the deportation is officially referred to as “genocide,” ethnic Crimean Tatars staged a rally accusing Russia of “persecuting” the ethnic minority and “violating human rights” in the peninsula after what they called the “annexation of Crimea,” local media reported.
Earlier on Wednesday, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko acknowledged that Kiev “was late” to establish national autonomy for the Tatars in Crimea while “fully ensuring” rights and freedoms of ethnic Ukrainians, Russians and other minorities. He also called on the Ukrainian parliament to amend the constitution with a paragraph mentioning the “inalienable right of Crimean Tatar people for self-determination.”
Crimea was occupied by Nazi troops early on during World War II after a series of bloody battles, and remained under German control until May 1944. Many Tatars were accused of deserting from the Red Army during the first months of the war, as well as full-fledged collaboration with the Nazi occupational authorities.
In May 1944, around 188,000 Crimean Tatars were forcibly deported from the peninsula under Joseph Stalin’s decree.
In April 2014, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree officially rehabilitating the Crimean Tatars and other ethnic minorities on the peninsula, urging people to do everything possible to ensure “that as part of Crimea’s integration into Russia, Crimean Tatars are rehabilitated and their historic rights restored.”
MOSCOW, May 20. /TASS/. Euronews TV channel authorizes politically biased coverage of Crimean Tatars’ deportation in 1944, Russian Foreign Ministry’s spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Friday.

“In principle, the channel presents the topic in an exclusively politically influenced manner,” Zakharova told the Govorit Moscow radio station, commenting on the channel’s coverage in (English) about deportations of two million Crimean Tatars in May 1944 from Crimea.
“First, we were speaking directly to the channel, then we made it public after failing to notice any changes in their position,” she said.
In particular, the Euronews TV channel covered the events marking an anniversary of Crimean Tatars’ deportation exclusively from Kiev’s position.
“The broadcaster did not say a single word about events in the Russian Federation in the context of the Crimean Tatars theme. In the context of that date,” Zakharova said.
Earlier, a biased approach in the news coverage had been noticed in the Euronews Russian segment, she said.
“In principle, there are shifts,” she said. “If two years ago, the Russian version of the Euronews website was inappropriate to reality as now the news in English about Russia, we seem to have found a balance to this attitude.”

The Russian Foreign Ministry’s official spokeswoman promised to send an official letter to the channel managers with a request to clarify this position of the channel.
“First of all, the channel needs it since it claims to be a mass media outlet, not a propagandistic mouthpiece,” she went on to say.
Earlier in the day, Zakharova wrote on her Facebook page that Euronews TV channel published false information on its website about deportation of Crimean Tatars in 1944 and an alleged ban on commemorative events in Russia’s Crimea. She that the TV channel should officially apologize. Later, the channel posted a new edition of the report, decreasing the earlier number of deported Crimean Tatars from two million to 200,000.

SIMFEROPOL, May 16. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia’s Human Rights Ombudsperson Ella Pamfilova will meet representatives of Crimean Tatars in Simferopol on Friday.
“I want to hear their wishes, proposals and concerns,” Pamfilova told journalists.
Crimean Tatars are planning to organize an event on May 18, marked as a Day of Memory for the Crimean peoples deported from the peninsula, but Crimea’s acting Prime Minister Sergey Aksyonov signed a decree that bans any events on the peninsula until June 6, 2014. The May 18 commemorations are also falling under this restriction.
“I am deeply convinced that bans are not the way to solve very complicated problems,” Pamfilova told journalists, noting that Russia had a law on rallies, marches and demonstrations. “All subordinate acts should strictly comply with that law. I hope it has not been violated,” the human rights ombudsperson said.
“It is necessary to establish contacts and find mutually acceptable solutions so that any events are organized in a civilized way and are safe for people. At the same time, no one should infringe on civil liberties and other rights,” Pamfilova said.
Crimean Tatars seem to be concerned with recent reports that Mustafa Dzhemilev, the so-called leader of Crimean Tatars, has allegedly been banned from entering Russia.
“I have already sent inquiries to all agencies, including the border service, asking them to explain whether any state body has made this decision,” Pamfilova stressed, noting Russia had a law allowing foreign nationals to move freely in the Russian territory.
“If I see any violations here, I am going to act in compliance with Russian laws and the Constitution,” the ombudsman said.

Bloody nonsense, the Crimean Tatar soldiers were forcibly conscripted, thousands were held as war prisoners. Many of the so-called “collaborators” were actually self-defense unit protecting Tatar villages against Soviet Partisian attacks as well as Nazi attacks if these groups helped the Partisians. Thousands were also forcibly taken as slave labour. This person is omitting the reality.
